The food, was absolutely diabolical, and the staff upon complaining, were awfully rude. In fact, they completely dismissed me when I complained that the food was inedible. The manageress actually went as far as to tut and sigh at me. The steak (which I didn’t photograph, and sent back) was beyond well done (when I asked for medium). She claimed that the burnt meat was medium. The fish, chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce was dry and missing tartar sauce. The chips were mouldy and the peas could have plastered walls! Here are pictures I did get. Disgusting. We are actually here staying for two nights and considering going home a night early. Shocking experiemce and service so far. Please ovoid.

Extremely Unfriendly! We just popped in for coffees, the front door was open and the hotel sign says quite clearly " OPEN ALL DAY" we weren't even asked what we wanted, a woman with an apron briskly told us they opened at 12 whilst hurrying to answer the phone. So I guess we won't be back here again then! The brewery also says it's open Mon to Friday til 4.30. It was closed........

Phoned the Moulin In on Saturday afternoon to try and book a table for Saturday evening. Told no reservations but if we drop in we should get a table in 10/15 minutes. You can have a drink while you wait. Walked up the hill from Pitlochry, pleasant walk but quite challenging older or unfit person. On arrival told there was no tables but we could wait outside till one became available. Entered the bar to be told its table service only and that we could sit outside and be served. We waited outside for about 15 minutes with no activity whatsoever although other prospective diners did have a drink. I re entered and spoke to a waitress who said someone would be out to serve us. Waited another 10 minutes with no service and decided to leave. Its a shame as its a lovely place with lots if character. Attitude of staff left a lot to be desired as twice two different waitresses were a bit abrupt. I would advise giving the place a wide betth Friday Saturday and Sunday as they are obviously stretched beyond thier capabilities.

Nice menu with a good choice of locally sourced food. Pub was nearly full when we got there at 6.50pm so they're obviously doing a good job as the place was populated by locals and tourists. You can't book a table you have to just turn up. The food was very good, proper home cooked food at a reasonable price. We had the salmon and skink, followed by fish and chips, all lovely. I would like to thank the tall chap that took our order (we were sitting by the door on Thursday 6th). He works incredibly hard and is very attentive and gives good service even though he is always working at 100% full speed. Can someone thank him please, I used to run restaurants, so I appreciate good work when I see it.

Great place to stop for a bite to eat and a drink after coming down from Ben Vrackie. Lovely terrace out front in this very quiet hamlet a 20 minute walk from Pitlochry. The main attraction for me was that the Hotel Bar is effectively the brewery tap for the Moulin Microbrewery across the road. Four cask ales at the bar and you can order a flight to taste more than one. Cheaper than the prices in Pitlochry and much better beer! Scotland is not a beer-lovers' mecca but I wish I'd found this place earlier and spent more time there! Well worth the walk (and there's a car park of course).

Room stay was not applicable, this is for the dining experience. Friend and I were sightseeing and this appeared to be an inviting choice for lunch. The inside of the inn is delightfully Scottish and appealing. The menu offered a pleasant selection of choices. I ordered the smoked salmon trio and my companion chose fish and chips. Mine arrived with a rocket and house dressing salad, new potatoes, herb creme fraiche which were really outstanding. I can honestly state that my entree (and travelling companion agrees with her selection too) that neither can recall having such a delicious restaurant meal in years. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the area was very clean, the atmosphere was attractive. If you are in the area, this is a must stop!

We went to the Moulin Inn to try the beer from their own brewery as I am an experienced All Grain home brewer. The woman behind the bar knew nothing about the beers but I ordered the three main ales -all cask (ignoring the sweeter dark beer). Unfortunately the Atholl ale was off with prominent vegetal flavours (cabbage) the other two were watery and unbalanced and I left all three on the table. It was a shame as the lovely old building deserved better.

The Moulin Inn has always been a favourite stop for food and drinks. The bar area is a great place, full of atmosphere and always with friendly and welcoming staff and clientele. It’s often difficult to get a table but we managed to get one in the quiet restaurant area. We started with Haggis Bon Bon’s served with some Coleslaw and mustard sauce. Then for mains we had Steak & Ale pie and Mince & Tatties. All good apart from mince which was a strange consistency, very large bits to tiny bits and was look warm at best. We would have sent mince back but we’re too hungry to wait and wanted to eat together. Steak & Ale pie was good but wouldn’t have mince again. To finish a Chocolate Fudge cake with ice cream was served. All this washed down with a bottle of Merlot for £71.75 + tip.

Basil Fawlty style: Disappointingly gruff service that left much to be desired. I popped in for a coffee after a long, cold walk. What a mistake this turned out to be. With a racket in the background (noisy ‘music’) and to avoid sitting in close proximity to those at the only other occupied table, I sought a table that was relatively quiet. I was curtly told to move as this wasn’t convenient for them. I politely explained my situation and was then ordered to move - twice. Not sure why I stayed after this, as it would have made more of a point for them to lose the custom in response to a self serving attitude (‘this place is run for the convenience of the staff, not the customers’). Such a pity, as it was a very fine appearance with warm fires (not reflected in the staff) and a pleasant seventeenth-century ambience. Lessons to be learned by the staff.

I came over from italy in August 2021, had a few beers and my first haggies there, lovely place, good food and awesome cask beers! I know it may be odd but I wanted to give a shoutout to the great lad serving at the tables and at the bar that evening. I was alone at my table and he frequently asked me if everything was good and if I was enjoying my beers. I was working in a pub in Italy at that time and hes attitude inspired me somehow when I came back home. I had quite a number of beers so I forgot to ask for his name. This year I'm going to come back to Scotland with my car and I will surely come over at the Mulin again to check if he's still there! Thank you, see you in a few months, Scotland and Italy always friends! Ruggero

Lovely, cosy pub, but bar staff made us feel very unwelcome. The service felt oddly cold - the gent at the bar didn’t make conversation; minimal eye contact and the request to try one of the ales first was granted somewhat reluctantly. We moved couple of chairs closer to the fire while having a conversation with somebody and were told to move them back as there were “customers coming”. All in all very different from hospitality we’ve encountered elsewhere around the Highlands. Shame as we would’ve stayed longer if the atmosphere was nicer.

Okay!! This trip was a one night deal as a part of a birthday treat from me to my husband because he loves the Moulin Brewery beer (the brewery being as far as I know a part of this hotel), the beer is really lovely.........Sadly despite its opening hours being displayed, the Brewery remained closed for the duration of our visit. Upon our arrival, at reception, I really felt as if I was inconveniencing the member of staff, who seemed irritated! When I mentioned that there was a bottle of 'Prosecco upon arrival' the chap checking us in told me "It's in your room and you have to drink it in there" this puzzled me (where else would we drink it??) and so I asked "as opposed to drinking it where?"- he replied "in the bar" I was pretty taken aback and just said that I wouldn't be so crass. Anyway, my husband thought it might be nice to have a beer before going up to our room- but In order to reach the bar you have to exit the main hotel and walk down the path and re-enter the building (not handy because it was pouring with rain). Unfortunately, the bar is dingy and smells unpleasant and I certainly didn't want to drink there (it also serves as a restaurant for lunch times and evenings....I'll say no more about this). We asked the nice, helpful waiter if there was any possibility that we could take our beers into the hotel's lounge, he wasn't sure but checked and we were granted permission, thankfully!; The hotel's lounge is beautiful with stylish, tasteful decor and very comfortable seating...... We had yet to visit our room!!! - This couldn't have been further from the reception and more difficult to get to if you tried!!! I have some mobility issues, having fractured my spine and broken two vertebrae in an accident a few years ago- it never occurred to me to enquire about accessibility, one assumes this has been addressed!!! I had to climb up two flights of narrow tread and twisting staircases (one had no bannister or railing to hold onto) and down one staircase and along long corridors turning to the left and right, it was like a warren and it really 'did me in!!' and NO I didn't complain about it. As it happened our room turned out to be above (albeit two floors above) the Inn/bar part of the hotel, I felt as though we'd been banished into the attic! Now, while the room was spotless with tasteful and welcoming decor it did have a none too pleasant odour- It smelt as if a century's worth of smoking had simply infiltrated the walls. I opened the window immediately to get rid of the smell.....and NO I didn't complain. In the room the hospitality 'looked' really good, the reality however was not- the tea and coffee tasted like mud- I'm not sure whether it was a result of the water or the UHT milk, my husband says the latter. He tried a black coffee on his second attempt at a drink and said it tasted marginally better, but not much...he questioned (to me) how long the tea, coffee, milk had been in the room.....a good question........ One we never asked! We had chosen to go to The Prince of India for our evening meal.....I highly recommend this restaurant, the food is fabulous and the staff are lovely. Upon our return to the hotel we thought it would be nice to sit in the lounge and have a couple of beers there ( I couldn't face the trek to my room just then). We sat for about an hour reading and chatting and then a member of staff came in and asked if we wanted a drink, I thanked her and said it would be lovely, sadly I sensed it was more that we had a cheek for being there rather than kind hospitality on offer (I may be wrong). It did mean however, fortunately, that we didn't have to venture outside in the rain to access the bar to get the beers! Breakfast is served from 08.15 and so I calculated that if we left our room at this time we would be down in the dining room for an acceptable 08.30, this was correct( yes it took me that long to negotiate the walk!!!!! The dining room is just off the beautiful lounge and another stunning room. The first part of the breakfast is utterly lovely, you have a selection of fruit juice, orange, apple and mango, you have a selection of fruits, apricots, prunes and grapefruit segments. There is also a lovely natural yoghurt. A granola and muesli- all superb. There is a menu which offers you a choice of dishes from grilled kippers to scrambled eggs with salmon or the full Scottish with eggs of your choice, my husband chose no eggs, I asked for a poached egg with mine.........well, let's go!! The plates were hot but the cooked food was luke warm and insipid looking - my poached egg, while being soft looked scraggy there was no white surrounding the yolk only tissuey bits that no one wants to see or eat!!.....NO I didn't complain!!- I had just seen a poached egg being served to another guest only minutes before and it looked exactly as it should; opaque yolk and a beautifully set white and I was delighted that someone could actually poach an egg so nicely.... NOT MINE! how premature was !??? The egg hadn't been sufficiently drained (if at all) and the water soaked into my toast and made it wet and soggy!!!!!! My husband was disappointed with his breakfast (although he did eat my haggis, black pudding and tattie scone (which all tasted not nice to me)- he was a little alarmed at the amount of grease on the plates and compared it to other breakfasts we have experienced elsewhere. I opted for tea with my breakfast, having failed to have a nice cuppa in our room, alas, this also tasted like mud! I couldn't drink it. My husband chose coffee, I wish I had! I am going to add now that The Moulin could learn an awful lot from Craigmhor Lodge Just down the road from them; their breakfast is second to none! I had planned a slow morning after breakfast. We had a late checkout as a part of our ITISON deal (12 noon); I decided that I was going to have a nice shower, and style my hair -I had brought along my new hair dryer and accessories in order to savour the experience...alas, this was scuppered!!! How?? I hear you ask!!.... Well, it 08.55 the lady serving us, cheerfully approached our table and said "If you are planning to be in your room after 09.30 we are switching off the electricity because we are installing smart meters!" and there you have it, the not so perfect ending to a not so perfect stay. Moulin, I won't be back. The Craigmhor Lodge instilled an affection for Pitlochry, The Moulin has done its best to wreck it!!!! Footnote; We did leave with purchases of Moulin Beer-the one positive!

Popped in for a drink while visiting the area. We approached the bar but were told table service only so we sat down. When putting one of the pints down the lager was slopped onto the table but there was no apology or attempt to wipe it up. The table was sticky, the atmosphere was unfriendly and it felt like there was a marked difference in how locals/ regulars were treated compared to visitors. There are far nicer places in Pitlochry to spend your time and money.

My husband and I thought we'd go here for supper on our first evening in Pitlochry because he previously had been served Braveheart beer here and simply loved it. He ordered a burger in a brioche bun with chips ; I ordered chicken stuffed with Stornoway black pudding, 'seasonal' vegetables and potatoes rather than chips - wrong choice!!! it looked and smelled like something the dog brought back up, it was awful, tough and dry chicken, watery sludgy black pudding, the potatoes so obviously reheated and overcooked and as for the vegetables (small slices of carrot and sugar snap peas) they were so overcooked and tasted like the smell of a dirty dishcloth!!! I know this is a harsh comment but I really couldn't eat my meal. The restaurant to its credit handled it pretty well, I was offered another choice and went for the 'just delivered that day' Buckie haddock....Wow!!!! it was cooked to perfection in a wonderfully light and crispy batter, served with a good quality (frozen) chip and mushy peas-eaten alongside the Braveheart brew it was utterly sensational. I feel a bit mean only giving an 'Average' mark. I scored this way because The brioche bun with hubby's burger was incredibly dry and I believe the dish should have been accompanied with a home made coleslaw to lift it. I would return though for the fish and the beer.

This is over priced for what the room offers as they are tired the mattress is so uncomfortable you can hear the springs as you move slightly proof they are done and ready for change. If your looking for a quiet quaint olde world experience then it’s not here certainly not in a front room where cars park and the beer garden is.Lols great from the outside but the rooms need sound prodding and a renovation at least mattresses and bathrooms won’t change ambience but add comfort at least. Will come back for food and drink for ambience but never a stay again.

Great food. Very dog friendly. Lovely seating area outside, keeps you dry even in wet weather. Very snug and oldie. Reasonably priced as well.

Our favorite Scottish pub so we hurried back when we arrived in Pitlochry. As typical, you order at the bar and then a server brings out your food. We love this place! My husband raved about his overcooked/crunchy burger - cooked just like he wants it. However, my haddock fish/chips were quite greasy. When next in Pitlochry, we'll hurry back again.

Sadly overpriced and uninspiring. I paid £9 for a basic tuna sandwich with a tiny salad garnish, a tiny pot of coleslaw and a few crisps. Better to walk on to Pitlochry itself

Always a favourite for lunch when in the area. I had a delicious salmon salad, poached & hot and cold smoked salmon with a lovely glass of Moulin ale

Lets start with food. The Scotsman Bunnet is very thin watery gravy and the McDuff game casserole is very salty- so much so it's unfinishable. The rest of the food in our group was tasty enough but 2 complaints out of 5 isn't really acceptable. I mentioned this when the waitress was clearing the table nut nothing was done. Desert came and the sticky pudding was obviously microwaved - thick, stodgy and very hard in the middle. Not worth the money. Again I mentioned, nothing came of it. The best things about this place is the location and range of beer brewed on site.

The food at the Moulin Hotel Restaurant was average pub fare. We sat outside because of the beautiful weather but inside was quite cozy in this very historically interesting and old building.

Our family had dinner here on three evenings while staying near Pitlochry. The food, the service, and the people were great. It's the kind of place where you can get to know people and enjoy the menu. Comfortable and hospitable.

We have been here several times over the past few years and feel it's getting a little bit jaded and is in need of a bit TLC. The food is okay: a bit better than a typical Wedderspoon's meal but twice the price. Beer also average, the barman brusque. We wouldn't rush back.

A visit to Pitlochry would not be complete without a walk to the Moulin Inn est 1695. If it is nice walk it if not take a car or taxi it’s all up hill from the town centre.

My wife and I visited the Moulin Restaurant, for lunch, while staying in Pitlochry. The repast was quite excellent and the service top class. It also has a micro-brewery, although we did not visit, as we were pushed for time. We would certainly recommend this hotel. I hope the pictures of the village and the menu are helpful !

My husband and I turned up at the Moulin restaurant just for a drink as we were not that hungry but upon seeing the menu and eyeing up other patrons' dinners we could not help but order some food. We are so glad we did. It was amazing, especially the steak and ale pie and the lamb shank. The service was great, especially considering a tour bus had just arrived and they were swamped, they still made the time to look after us.

Cute tavern/inn tucked away in the sleepy town of Moulin. Established in 1695. Very quaint serving good variety of quality pub grub. Well worth a visit if you are in the area of Pitlochry. Reasonably priced and offering Home Brewed Ales.

We went for a long walk around Pitlochry before arriving at the hotel. It was bitterly cold outside so I was hopeful that hotel would be warm and cozy. We arrived to be shown to our room. The rooms are dated there is no denying this and will not be to everyone’s liking. But we thought they’re fine and suit the age of the building itself.

Visit this inn regularlyon our visits to Pitlochry it is always very welcoming and on a cold day the log fires are appreciated. Food is good and more on the pub grub style. It is just ten mins drive from Pitlochry centre and would also be walkable if engergetic.
