We went to the Moulin Inn to try the beer from their own brewery as I am an experienced All Grain home brewer. The woman behind the bar knew nothing about the beers but I ordered the three main ales -all cask (ignoring the sweeter dark beer). Unfortunately the Atholl ale was off with prominent vegetal flavours (cabbage) the other two were watery and unbalanced and I left all three on the table. It was a shame as the lovely old building deserved better.

Service was superb- staff were so friendly and took the time to check in with everyone (including the kids who loved to be included!) Food was great and didn't take long, big meals and reasonable price I understand the bar area doesn't allow children but there was thankfully plenty of space for us in the lounge area which was super cosy! We didn't stay at the hotel so haven't rated

The Moulin Inn has always been a favourite stop for food and drinks. The bar area is a great place, full of atmosphere and always with friendly and welcoming staff and clientele. It’s often difficult to get a table but we managed to get one in the quiet restaurant area. We started with Haggis Bon Bon’s served with some Coleslaw and mustard sauce. Then for mains we had Steak & Ale pie and Mince & Tatties. All good apart from mince which was a strange consistency, very large bits to tiny bits and was look warm at best. We would have sent mince back but we’re too hungry to wait and wanted to eat together. Steak & Ale pie was good but wouldn’t have mince again. To finish a Chocolate Fudge cake with ice cream was served. All this washed down with a bottle of Merlot for £71.75 + tip.

Basil Fawlty style: Disappointingly gruff service that left much to be desired. I popped in for a coffee after a long, cold walk. What a mistake this turned out to be. With a racket in the background (noisy ‘music’) and to avoid sitting in close proximity to those at the only other occupied table, I sought a table that was relatively quiet. I was curtly told to move as this wasn’t convenient for them. I politely explained my situation and was then ordered to move - twice. Not sure why I stayed after this, as it would have made more of a point for them to lose the custom in response to a self serving attitude (‘this place is run for the convenience of the staff, not the customers’). Such a pity, as it was a very fine appearance with warm fires (not reflected in the staff) and a pleasant seventeenth-century ambience. Lessons to be learned by the staff.

I came over from italy in August 2021, had a few beers and my first haggies there, lovely place, good food and awesome cask beers! I know it may be odd but I wanted to give a shoutout to the great lad serving at the tables and at the bar that evening. I was alone at my table and he frequently asked me if everything was good and if I was enjoying my beers. I was working in a pub in Italy at that time and hes attitude inspired me somehow when I came back home. I had quite a number of beers so I forgot to ask for his name. This year I'm going to come back to Scotland with my car and I will surely come over at the Mulin again to check if he's still there! Thank you, see you in a few months, Scotland and Italy always friends! Ruggero

Lovely, cosy pub, but bar staff made us feel very unwelcome. The service felt oddly cold - the gent at the bar didn’t make conversation; minimal eye contact and the request to try one of the ales first was granted somewhat reluctantly. We moved couple of chairs closer to the fire while having a conversation with somebody and were told to move them back as there were “customers coming”. All in all very different from hospitality we’ve encountered elsewhere around the Highlands. Shame as we would’ve stayed longer if the atmosphere was nicer.

Lets start with food. The Scotsman Bunnet is very thin watery gravy and the McDuff game casserole is very salty- so much so it's unfinishable. The rest of the food in our group was tasty enough but 2 complaints out of 5 isn't really acceptable. I mentioned this when the waitress was clearing the table nut nothing was done. Desert came and the sticky pudding was obviously microwaved - thick, stodgy and very hard in the middle. Not worth the money. Again I mentioned, nothing came of it. Tasty food, friendly staff and we had delightfully unhurried pints by the fire on a rainy quiet afternoon. Try the beer made in the brewery behind the hotel and pub. Coronation Chicken Sandwich and chips and couple of pints made for a pleasant visit. We walked up from Pitlochry which although uphill, had great views.

Nice classic Scottish pub. The food was nice and so was the staff but very stressed. Rustic. The ale was better than the wine.

We walked up to the restaurant from Craigroyston B & B as we wanted to build up an appetite. We were lucky with the weather and sat outside for our meal. I ordered a Veggie Hagis with neeps and mashed tatties. My parter ordered the Scottish Bunnet. When our food came it was nicely presented without being pretentious and hot. Both our meals were incredibly tasty, filling and well worth the price. We ordered a Bread and Lockerbie butter pudding with custard, again this was hot and flavoursome withour being stodgy. Definitely a place we would return too for a meal. The service was great too, fast and friendly.

We came here based on reviews and recommendations whilst staying elsewhere in Pitlochry. We got there just before the kitchen closed at 9:00pm inadvertently, as we could not find when they closed online. We were a bit rushed in ordering dinner before they closed, but it was no bother and we were reassured by the bartender that it was no bother. The food was great. It appeared that locals like to come to the restaurant as well, as there were multiple couples who appeared to know each other and who brought their dogs in, which, as a dog lover, I thought was a nice touch! The locally brewed beer was great as well. Would definitely recommend!

We had a starter of vension and a lightly smoked, pan fried salmon meal. Both were fresh and full of flavour. This is well worth the walk up the hill from the town centre. Laughed at the certificate in the bar which says 'Scottish pub of the year 1596'.

Just back from our first stay at the Moulin Hotel and were not disappointed. Have driven past it many times and always thought it looked really inviting. So glad we decided to stay on this occasion. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed the beer, roaring log fires and atmosphere. The menu is ok, although a little over-priced but the food and service were excellent. We stayed on Monday evening and the pub was busy, so it could be difficult to get table at the weekend, as they don't take bookings. Would definitely stay again, next time we are in Pitlochry.

With a large selection of whisky and extremely local microbrewery ale and such a beautiful pub we had to stay. This ancient pub is beautiful and the staff are amazing, they really go above and beyond.

We were travelling from Edinburgh to Inverness, and was recommended this place and to get a bar meal. It's 1st come,1st serve,as reservations not taken for bar meals. Luckily some tables were just getting cleaned so was able to enjoy some food. Was really nice and tasty. 2 starters,2 mains and 1 sweet to share.

We came to The Moulin on a cold wet night, looking for a hearty meal and were not disappointed. My husband had the haggis.neeps and tatties, and I had beef bourgignon off the specials board. Both meals were good value and generous portions and were served piping hot. Although we were tempted by the wide variety of puddings, we simply did not have room for one. As a real ale fan, my husband was most impressed by the taste and cost of the in house brewery beer. The barman was very pleasant and welcoming, even though it was his first night and the bar was cosy and warm with a roaring fire in the corner. Lovely !

We always visit The Moulin when visiting Pitlochry. Partly because of the locally brewed beer! The menu is typical pub grub but a very wide choice. I chose salmon and the portion was huge! My husband chose lamb shank. Both were beautifully cooked.
