Nice place for brunch in Arundel. It was during the town festival when we visited, so the place was packed. We waited a while to be seated and waited 45 minutes for our brunch orders to be served. I guess the surge in customers was not anticipated and prepared for accordingly. Other than that, the washroom is at the basement, so I don't think it is wheelchair accessible. Portions are slightly on the smaller side with a single slice of bread for the veggie english breakfast and additional 2 slices with jam and butter for £4.50.

Brief Coffee Visit. Nice welcome from staff and very good coffee and pastries. Dog friendly. Very busy. Deceptively large with downstairs too. Central Arundel.

Horrible customer service. Manager just didn't want to know!! Overly priced. Prices do not match end product. Staff was rude, unnecessarily unprofessional. Food was of poor quality, cold, soggy. Order a cake that was soaked on syrup, horrendously sweet and mushy. I wouldn't recommend anything on the menu. I wouldn't recommend this place at all 😕.

We loved this place. Super friendly service without being obtrusive. Great tasting coffee and iced drinks. Scones and other sweet treats were mouth watering.

Just had brunch here and there is a great atmosphere. Lovely seats by the window overlooking the town and the food is 10/10. Had the avo on toast which had a delicious tomato salsa with it and a bit of a kick. One of the best I've had and my other half had the Moroccan eggs which were also sensational, and available gluten free too. An absolute must for brunch

We had a really lovely brunch here on the off chance and were lucky turning up at 12 on a Saturday to get a table as it was really busy. The service was friendly if a little reserved but the food was great. We ordered the poached eggs on smashed avo on sourdough and it was really tasty, had a cheeky little tomato and red onion salsa on top which elevated it (I’d already tucked in before I remembered to take a photo!) The coffee was decent. Toilets are down in the basement so not accessible for all as far as I’m aware.

Varied menu something for everyone. Quick and friendly service and tasty food. Only had 1 course as had just an hours parking. Only grip was a dog constantly barking (by window table, making everyone jump) at every dog walking pass outside and also when the dogs who were already inside, got up to leave. Management should intervene as it was disturbing for everyone and the owners of said dog did nothing to pacify dog. Maybe ask them to take dog outside?

Just popped in for a coffee, but the cakes looked nice. Chirpy waitresses made me feel welcome. Half way up the High Street in the centre of town it is a nice place to relax and gossip over light meals. No parking other than roadside.

This place is really nice, there is also a very romantic room in the basement. The service is quick and excellent, the staff helpful. The products offered are excellent. The only shortcoming is the less than exceptional hygiene.

It's a yess from me !! Was quite busy on the weekend,,they even asked the visitors to wait, but luckily we were just two and yess ! They let us to sit. Had coffee and cake, but the cake unfortunately made my belly disappointed. 💪🏽

Our favourite breakfast spot in Arundel, super friendly staff & fabulous choice of food. Another visit this weekend & although was busy we got seated after about a 10 minute wait & the food was excellent (as always) always make our dog feel welcome & she loves a cheeky doggy sausage.

This is one of my favourite places to have breakfast anywhere. The service and food has always been good and it is a fantastic spot to watch the world go by with a coffee. Oh and if breakfast isn’t your thing be sure to check out their tapas nights!

I don't want to share the toilet s with men. All 3 loos were available to use but all 3 toilet seats were up. Pee on and around all 3 loos. Very horrible.

I'm just leaving a quick review to big it up for the Motte & Bailey Cafe, who did their bit in restoring our faith in the local eateries & hostelries in Arundel after we'd just had a bad experience in another local establishment (my review of the Black Rabbit refers). So, having had our best laid plans scuppered, we found ourselves looking somewhere else for lunch-time food and solace. We came upon the centrally located Motte & Bailey Cafe (although I'm not sure the 'cafe' title does it justice; we had what was restaurant standard food, and we noticed they're licensed, so I'd say this is more a casual restaurant than your typical bacon-butty cafe). So after the indifference of the previous establishment we'd been to, it was refreshing to be greeted by a cheerful and attentive waitress who took our order, and with minimal delay refreshments were on the table in the form of quality coffees, followed by Eggs Benedict for me and Irish Seafood Chowder for my other half, chosen from the Brunch and Lunch menu. Both dishes really were as good as it gets. The menu catered I'm sure for all manner of tastes and appetities with a good variety of the typical fare including salads, burgers, sandwiches and desserts. So, in terms of ambience (a lovely view across Arundel High Street), quality of the food, friendly and courteous service, pricing, and menu options (plus there's two varying menus dependent on the time of day), it's a five from me and likewise from my wife!

The best cafe in Arundel. Food is impeccable, the service is wonderful and the owner and staff are always friendly and welcoming. Our dogs love it here, and so do we !

A truly great breakfast place. We've been 3 times in the last 4 weeks and every time have hugely enjoyed it. The location is ace, the place itself welcoming, comfortable and clean. The staff are friendly and efficient whilst not hurrying you so making for a relaxed breakfast experience. There is a wide range of food on offer and everything we have tried has been top quality. Add to that excellent coffee (served in hot cups!!) and very reasonable pricing means this place leaves nothing to be desired. All in all the M&B is where we head to directly every time we are in town.

This establishment never fails to please. The food is always of good quality, with a fair price.

There's no wonder there are customers waiting at the door to get in. Both the food and the coffee was amazing. The service was quick and efficient with very little wait time between ordering and getting what I ordered. Even with it being as busy as it was. Don't be put off not trying to get in when you see it packed through the windows as they do have seating downstairs. However, I did wait just to get a window seat to watch the world go by as I enjoyed my lunch. I will definitely be coming back again 😊

Delicious Americano coffee and chocolate swirl. Tried one with pistachio but wasn't as good as chocolate one. Visited on Sunday morning and it was super busy. Constant stream of people.

My wife and I went in for coffee and a cake. While looking at the menu is saw another customer's bowl of chips I ordered chips instead of a cake. Heston Blumenthal; eat your heart out. I am 68 and the chips I was served that day are honestly the best chips I have ever eaten in my life, by quite a large margin. The cafe is a 40 minute drive from my home, but whenever I want sublime chips this will be my go-to destination.

Excellent food & service. Soup was homemade and tasty, chips v substantial, quiche good, as was poached egg and avocado on toast. Great.

Service was very pleasant and friendly, especially from the young man that took our order, who was very patient and helpful reading bits off the specials board for my mum. Tasty burger and delicious chips (must have been triple fried to be so nice and crispy). My parents and girlfriend were also happy - my mum really enjoyed her quiche with three different salads.

Enjoyed the vegan brunch here so much we decided to come back the next day. Really good selection of sourdough toast, homemade beans, smashed avocado, grilled tomatoes, let me substitute the mushroom for extra avocado without any fuss. Very busy in between Christmas and new year, which for us felt like a good sign. If you want good quality food with good service in an atmospheric cafe, this ticks all the boxes. Clearly managed very well and they really know what they're doing!

Pit stop after a long walk. Had a cream tea treat. Tea for 2 was very good. At least 2 cups each from the pot. Plenty of fresh milk in the jug. Scone excellent and warm. Clotted cream ok, jam disappointing. Jam really cheap low quality. Very surprising as the cafe is lovely.

Been a few times and always been good. Went as part of a larger group and was seated downstairs and felt a bit "forgotten about" from a service perspective and had to go upstairs to place desert order. Had a lovely seafood chowder but it was a tiny portion for c.£13 and was expecting something 3x the size. Just felt disappointed by it all when I left having been really good previously.

Lovely cafe with excellent, friendly service from staff. Food delicious with something to suit everyone in our group, eggs royale, mushrooms on taste and vegan breakfast were particularly noteworthy. Step free access, so easy for those with mobility issues - and dogs can come too. We had a perfect Sunday brunch!

Great breakfast in this bustling cafe. Made our dog very welcome and brought her a bowl of water. Brilliant staff.

Visited many times for coffee however our first evening visit for tapas with family. The service was friendly, timely and efficient. All the tapas dishes we chose were delicious. Each dish was freshly cooked to order with quality ingredients and full of flavour. It was stylish to have the large 250ml rosé presented in a chilled bottle of that size. Portion sizes were very good however the flatbread could be larger. The restaurant had a great atmosphere with good mood lighting. Looking forward to returning to experience different dishes.

We ordered a bacon & sausage bap and 2 slices of toast. All tasted good, especially the brioche bun. Latte was lovely as well as the white Americano. Quiet atmosphere despite it being busy and pleasant staff.

We have visted the motte and Bailey cafe lots of times over the years! we went for the breakfast menu and the staff were friendly. It is always very very busy, so food and drinks takes longer to come out. The breakfast was smaller compared to others that i have had recently, however still equally as delicious. My wife had mushroom quiche with a choice of three salads,I had Irish chowder which was delightful full of fish and thick broth. Served with a thick slice of bread and butter. If you are in Arundel it is well worth popping in.

We had a lovely breakfast here on the 22nd of August. The eggs Benedict were particularly good as was the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. The poached Moroccan eggs with merguez sausage were also brilliant. We highly recommend the Motte and Bailey cafe. This is high-end grub not at all a greasy spoon.

Had an afternoon cream tea here. Staff friendly and helpful menu looked good. Cream tea a little disappointing as the jam was not of very high quality.

I want to thank the staff at Motte and Bailey for adapting their dishes for us on request - thank you for your amazing flexibility for me and my party when we visited. Because of this and the great quality of the food, we will certainly return when in Arundel again.

Visited for the wife's birthday and had Tapas. Staff were friendly and polite but not very attentive, were standing chatting a lot. Food was alright, ordered a variety of dishes (as is the tapas style) some were a bland and underseasoned, the mushroom balls for one. Churros were very over done, some burnt. Good choice of wines. Wouldn't bother again.

Our table that was for 6 under the window on the side was filthy. I asked for it to be cleaned and the girl said it was stain that would not come off. I managed to scrape it off with my finger nails. Come on have you not learnt any lessons Covid is still about. The we waited to order whhilst three of then just carried on chatting at the top

Your coffee at £3.55 a cup is outrageous and we will not be visiting again. We have had much better coffee and at lower prices.

Best Coffee in Arundel hands-down. Visited late afternoon and the cafe was surprisingly quiet. Super friendly staff who were extremely accommodating and approachable. Didn't have any food but looked great.

As a regular customer I was really disappointed by the service I received, to the extent that we went to eat elsewhere. As is often the case when we arrived there were no seats available and were asked to wait a few minutes. As I did not want to block the entrance with our dog I waited on the pavement whilst my wife waited at the door. 2 customers who were seated in the window started to leave and as they came towards the door my wife stepped back to give them room to leave with their dog. At this time a young couple pushed past her and entered the waitress that had asked us to wait approached them and they asked for a table, she start to show them to the window when my wife pointed out that she had just asked us to wait, with no apology and inadition nothing from the customers, she continued to show them to the window and turned to my wife and said there would be another table soon. Having spent many a lunchtime and enjoyed evening Tapas we are extremely disappointed. Needless to say we took are trade elsewhere.

Kom sulten forbi med min veninde efter langt spændende besøg på Arundel Castle. Vi var heldige at få bord på et meget travlt tidspunkt. Det var svært at vælge mellem alle de gode retter i menuen, men jeg endte med meget vellykket “Old favourite”, smashed avocado with poached eggs og min ledsager prøvede dagens suppe (kokos, chili, Butternut m surdejsbrød) fra tavlen, og vi var begge meget tilfredse. God betjening selvom de måtte løbe lidt denne torsdag i hyggelige lille Arundel

Very nice place. Had been there twice for the love of their butter scones. They are totally fresh and a buttery delight. Service is quick. There is parking on the road if you can find a spot. I went at 10 am twice and was able to find parking on the road. It's a bit too crowded for me and dogs are allowed so i rated a 4 on the atmosphere. Would recommend this place to any scone lover.

Stopped in here on the way to the castle for breakfast. They served a great full English and the coffee was excellent. 100% would recommend and we will definitely go back.

When we arrived at shortly after 9.00am the cafe was already really busy and we were offered a table downstairs. Excellent cooked full English breakfast made with quality ingredients. Coffee was decent, far better than high street chains. Service was great even though we were out of sight.
