Very quaint little cafe at the Valley of Rocks, with absolutely gorgeous scenery. They sell an incredible selection of homemade pies, we shared a piece of the blackcurrant and a piece a piece of the cherry, and they were both delicious. Sadly the day we went had gale force winds and we had to hide in our car to eat our pie, but well worth it nonetheless.

We will not visit again. Overpriced, probably because they have the monopoly as there's no other place nearby. £2.95 for a tea bag, hot water and milk in a horrible paper cup. And £3.95 for Earl Grey! I queried price with the girl serving. She just asked me if I wanted it or not! Appalling. You imagine this should be a quintessential English tea rooms in idyllic surroundings. Not so! I would suggest the owners should stop ripping off their customers but they likely don't care as they think their trade is based on one time users. We're local but will never visit again.

Very expensive. £26 for 3 coffees and two bits of cake. Really really slow service. Tables outside uncleared. No inside seating and no loos which I thought you had to if you provide seating for 10 people or more (which they do). My cappuccino was disgusting - barely drinkable it was so bitter & everything served in paper cups/plates. Go into Lynton or Lynmouth of you want good coffee and service.

Total rip off. Payed £45 for three sandwiches and three hot drinks in paper cups . And no toilets at all. Which might be illegal. Just because you are the only eatery within 2 miles should not have these ridiculous prices, considering you get plenty of business in the season. Seating on crappy wooden benches . Not good

Beautiful location - such a shame the food is so expensive and of below average quality. Everything is ridiculously expensive (£10 for mushrooms on toast). I had a cream tea - £9 for two scones, cream and jam - plus I had to pay extra for coffee as I don't drink tea! I decided to buy anyway as I'd not had lunch (and this is the only cafe in the area - no doubt the reason they charge so much!) - but the scones were revolting. I managed one but threw the other away. It was very soft and pappy - like a soft white bread roll - just horrible. I was so disappointed as I love scones. Lesson learnt! I would never return!!

I paid £22 for 2 very average/dry sandwiches & 2 soft drinks. I saw one lady working in the kitchen sneeze in to her hands, wipe her mouth with her hands & carry on!! 2 days later, I woke with sore throat & now both my husband & I have horrible coughs - don't think this is coincidence! Very bad practice, quite shocking.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! I cannot stress enough how amazing this place is every time we visit, we come back year after year and the service, quality and everything is brilliant and consistently good (I’m not sure what all these negative reviews are about 👀) the service is amazing, the girls are attentive and polite and the lady who makes all the pies and scone has such a talent (if you’ve tried you know) we have always had such a lovely time here and will continue to come back

Cafe from Hell! For years this has been a must visit cafe, proper coffee and delicious cakes but not anymore. Had the most disgusting coffee in paper cups costing £7.70 which we were forced to throw away utterly undrinkable! Sales assistant truculent and unhelpful no interest in customer service. No toilet available now which is unreasonable. Directed to public toilets some distance up steep walk not suitable for anyone with poor mobility. Having previously been long term customers this will definitely be our last visit.

Terrible cost and terrible service. Asked for a scone with jam and butter and a coffee. was charged £11.80. It was eventually explained after we had paid that this was the cost of a cream tea with additional cost of a coffee and exchanging cream for butter. Was not offered or given a cup of tea or the cream! Strange logic and expensive meal. Will never visit again even though in the past we have been satisfied. The place, food and service have deteriorated badly. Poor customer service no help or assistance, only truculence..

My husband and I took my daughter and grandson, to the Valley of the rocks, a place we all enjoy, unforunately the day we went was Friday 25th August, not a good day was drizzly and raining, we went to the tea rooms for their excellent food only to be told we couldn't sit inside, other people couldn't understand why, also we were not allowed to use the loo, as it was locked, such a shame for a beautiful place with excellent food. No inside seating, had to pay cash if under £10 - our two coffees came to £7.70 and luckily we had cash - it's a clever way to get customers to buy something extra to make the money up to £10? We saw many elderly people struggling to walk 5 mins uphill to the car park toilet We could not believe that an establishment that serves sit down meals did not have a toilet? Also why serve coffees in paper cups at £3.85 each surely that merits a nice cup and saucer.

Having been to Mother Meldrums in the past and always had a good experience, sitting inside on cold days by the fire, we decided to take some friends to lunch today. It was bitterly cold at the Valley of the Rocks and of course we intended to sit inside. I was told that there was now no indoor seating and I asked why? I was told that the indoor seating area was closed off during covid (that old chestnut) and that people only used it on cold days anyway. I pointed out that covid was long past and that today was one such day (cold) and we had young children with us. We tried to use the toilet which was now locked up and the food was very pricey. £6.45 for a portion of cheesy chips for children. We decided not to stay and instead opted for a nice cosy cafe with hot food in the town. I'm afraid Meldrums has lost the plot and it's previous appeal.

Nice setting but not what it was. Queued for 25 minutes for 2 below average hot drinks. One Nescafé style coffee and one really weak tea served in a takeaway cup. You aren’t even allowed to put your own milk in! We didn’t eat purely due to the prices and where they once had a toilet they now direct you up the road to the public loos. At least if you are charging this much for food open up your onsite toilets. Too many establishments blaming Covid for just frankly below par food and service.

The garden and overall setting for a pitstop can’t be faulted it is beautiful. The staff are also a super friendly and hard working bunch. But the quality of the food is we had left a lot to be desired and was hugely expensive. The ‘luxury’ fish finger sandwich was 3-4 fairly ordinary fish fingers on 2 slabs of dry unbuttered stogy bread served on a paper plate with no salad or any sides at all. This for £8! The salmon and cream cheese sandwich was the same deal. Extremely ordinary/plain sandwich, no garnish or anything and also £8. When you order an £8 sandwich you expect better than bus station food. Had to eat / drink off paper cups /plates too which was a bit rubbish and if this is supposed to be a covid precaution it’s the first I’ve seen it in any dine-in place since restaurants started opening up. £2.50 for a solitary teabag might have been easier to justify if it’s in a China cup… Lovely setting, lovely staff, sort out the food and price it fairly and you’d have a gem.

A bit disappointed when ordering four cream teas and asking if we could change three of the tea drinks to two hot choc lates and a soft drink. (Yes a bit painful I know, but not everyone likes tea but love scones and cream) We were charged for the three teas we did not have.... everywhere else we have been we have paid the difference in price of the drinks - but not sure why they cannot do the same - being the only place to get refreshment in the valley of the rocks does not mean you cannot be a little accommodating.

Stopped here with 9 adults, 4 children and two dogs. Wonderful garden, amazing home made food, sheltered spot and lovely end to visiting the valley of rocks. Altogether a really memorable place to visit.

Stoped for a cream tea with my wife and 2 teenage boys. While the 2 scone tea appealed, the cherry pie looked too good to miss. We ended up having some of each, both obviously home produced and well worth having. Match this with excellent tea, enough for two cups each and the thickest clotted cream we have ever seen. Will definitely go again if we pass this way.

Scones were a disappointment as texture, taste lacking and not served warm (maybe we needed to ask for this so could be our fault). Lemon drizzle cake definitely past its best.

Wonderful tea rooms in a unique setting. Like something from The Hobbit! Fabulous drinks, food and cakes and ladies who run it. Beautiful gardens with shady trees. Too pretty!

We visited here after taking in the amazing views of the Valley of Rocks near Lynmouth. The service was great, very friendly staff and the homemade cakes and pies were out of this world. We ate chocolate cake, blueberry pie, apple and raspberry pie and carrot cake - all were absolutely delicious. We can’t recommend it enough.

The tearooms are situated in the Valley of Rocks near Lynton. This is a stunning iconic location and the views are awesome. Others will have told you about the amazing scones and Mother Meldrums provides what is certainly one of the best cream teas in Devon. We had a ploughman's lunch which was delicious and excellent value for money. The staff were helpful and friendly. There is a car park adjacent to the cafe, just follow the signs to the Valley of Rock. However we usually park in Lynton High Street and walk along the road which runs along by the side of the church and leads to the coastal path .It is then about a 30 minute easy walk to the Valley of Rocks with amazing views. The path is sturdy and well defined but not suitable for young children as it is adjacent to very steep drops which are not fenced. We had a lovely walk and an excellent meal in a beautiful setting.

We stopped in a bit early for morning coffee - my wife had a piece of cherry pie and I wasn't going to have anything but their scones looked so good I had to have one. And it was worth it, it was absolutely delicious, baked on site, and with very generous clotted cream and jam.

We booked here for breakfast before our trip home from a short break. Ignored when we went in, then after asking we were stuck on a table next to the toilet with 2 young children and a dog. Asked about gluten free options and explained this was an intolerance for my daughter not an allergy. Weren’t prepared to help or advise, very uninterested - just continued serving at the till and more or less told us everything could have gluten in. We sat back down and looked at each other and I said to my husband “I’m really not happy here” and he replied “nor am I”. We left and on the way out briefly explained why but were ignored. They didn’t even say bye. Went down the road and discovered Ali @ Adele’s Cafe who were super with us, very accommodating, friendly and great food. Night and day compared to this place.

This is a great place for a coffee or something to eat when waiting for a train or shopping in the area. I meet friends here once a month and have never been disappointed. The full vegetarian breakfast is excellent. Don’t go to Costa, come here instead!

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a friends wedding in a resort 5 minutes walk up the road. When we arrived it was very busy with people eating in the pub/restaurant and there was no parking. Staff advised they had saved us a space and we moved the cones and got parked. Quickly checked in and shown to our room. The room was spacious and clean. Large bed with 2 single duvets, my only grumble was it was not great sleeping under 2 single duvets on the double bed. We asked staff about getting to the bed behind the hotel and booked a table for dinner bit later, they were really helpful. 20 minute walk up a very steep hill behind the hotel and down a steep cliff path, we were on the most stunning beach, we had a swim! We had the local rump steak and chips for dinner that night and it was delicious. Breakfast both mornings was included and was very nice indeed. Would recommend the food here. We enjoyed our stay here and very good location for attending our friends wedding at Watermouth Cove.

After visiting Captain Jack's in 2023, we were not disappointed on our return visit! The pub decor is great with a good amount of space indoors and outside, the beer is good and the food tasty! Staff are friendly and make tourists feel welcome! A great visit for either lunch or an evening meal!
