Food was delicious. Wait staff were very accurate and polite. However, instead of a playlist the restaurant was playing a radio which meant that every 15 minutes we were subjected to a few minutes of very loud advertisements which ruined the atmosphere and beautiful decor.

The chicken tikka makhani might be the best I've ever had. Walnuts in it which was new for me. But if that's the secret ingredient to make a curry this good then I'm in!

Great food I had the set menu with the fish pakoras which came with a great chutney. The monkfish curry was also so tasty the garlic naan was huge and delicious. They were great servers and ran out after us to make sure we didn’t forget our water bottle. So kind great atmosphere, been told to come here a lot and I’m glad I finally did and will 100% be back

I've been coming to this restaurant for 25 years and rate it 5/5 every time. The most delicious food! and staff will always be flexible to meet needs of children and teens. I had the fish pakora and prawn and monkfish curry this time and it was so tasty. The upstairs dining room is beautiful with a mix of Rennie Mackintosh chairs and mahogany comfort. Love the surroundings, atmosphere and attentiveness of the staff nearly as much as the food. We'll be back.

Disappointed. Was looking forward to trying Mother India but left disappointed. Window table was freezing. Trio of pakora was just 3 vegetables deep fried. Taste from garlic chilli chicken was one of overpowering saltiness, chicken was tough and chewy .

Almost worth visiting for the decor alone, beautiful wood panels, cornicing... , looks like something from a chic victorian interior design brochure. But the star is the food, packed with flavour every dish has a individual signature. Portions are huge, doggy bags are offered as standard. All good.

My husband is Indian and insisted I leave a review for this fabulous restaurant. He grew up eating Indian food at home and on the curry mile in Manchester. Since then, we’ve been lucky enough to eat at some well known Indian restaurants all over the world (Gymkhana, Trishna, Jamavar, Brigadiers, Tayyabs, Amaya, Tamarind in London, Akbars and Mumtaz in Leeds/Bradford, Gulatis Pandara rd and Moti Mahal in Delhi, and the Taj Mumbai). However, we can honestly say that Mother India in Glasgow steals the show and is our personal favourite. The food is nothing short of sublime - the perfect balance of authenticity, innovation and spice, freshly prepared using high quality ingredients. Each dish has its own unique presentation, aroma, taste and identity. The portion size is very generous and the price point is very reasonable given the lavish but cosy atmospheric setting and food quality. The kitchen staff are always on hand to alter dishes to suit individual tastes (we always request home style Indian cooking) and their execution is flawless. We are have always been taken so well care of by Suhaib, who is a true gentleman and the perfect host - always on hand to advise on food choices, entertain and inform! It’s obvious that he is personally invested in his guest experience and satisfaction. Special thanks also to Sangam, our attentive and kind waiter for his outstanding service.

Knowing Glasgow is the "Curry Capital of the UK," I knew we had to try some Indian food, but with such a wealth of places to pick from, I cook to polling some locals for recommendations. Mother India was everyone's top, and it happened to be so close to where we were staying. I think my soul left my body eating this food, it was INCREDIBLE. Go.... if you're in Glasgow.... go here. Go to Glasgow, just to eat here, it's That good.

Even though the food was delicious, the service was not that great. The waiter told us that we cannot order lunch menu without explanation why, after asking for the reason he came back and said that indeed we can order that dish. Then, he forgot to bring us one mango lassi and ice creams. I can understand that the place was crowded but it would be nice to say something after those many mistakes.

Tucked away in the cellar of Westminster Terrace, Mother India offers a rustic, wine-cellar-inspired dining experience that promises a mix of tradition and charm. Armed with a voucher for a four-course lunch for two, we eagerly anticipated a culinary treat. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by staff who directed us to our table downstairs. The decor immediately caught the eye – rustic and atmospheric, with a cozy dining-room feel. However, the ambiance was marred by an unpleasant smell, reminiscent of drain issues, which lingered throughout the meal. This initial impression was compounded by stained and dirty menus, a red flag for hygiene. While presentation matters, cleanliness is paramount, and this lapse raised concerns about the restaurant's overall standards. Determined to give the food its due, we persevered. For starters, my guest chose vegetable pakoras, while I opted for fish pakoras. Both dishes were well-presented and flavorful. The fish pakora stood out – perfectly cooked with moist, flaky flesh encased in a spiced, crispy batter. The accompanying poppadoms with spiced onions and mango chutney were delightful, offering a beautiful balance of sweetness and spice. However, as the restaurant filled to capacity, service began to falter. A long 40-minute wait for the main course passed without communication from the staff. A simple apology or acknowledgment of the delay could have made a significant difference. Eventually, we were served lamb Rogan Josh with garlic naan and basmati rice. The main course did not disappoint. The Rogan Josh was a masterclass in depth and complexity, with bold flavors and tender, generous portions of lamb. Dessert was a nostalgic treat: retro tubs of ice cream served with small plastic spoons – a quirky, playful end to the meal. Regrettably, the experience was soured once more by a visit to the restroom. The facilities were unclean, with a broken toilet seat and clear signs of neglect. Such issues are inexcusable in any dining establishment, as they speak volumes about attention to detail and respect for customers. While the food at Mother India shines, offering authentic flavors and hearty portions, the glaring hygiene and service issues overshadowed the meal. These problems are easily fixable, but until they are addressed, I cannot recommend a return visit. It's a shame that such potential is undermined by avoidable lapses. Rating: 2.5/5 The food is the star, but the supporting elements need serious improvement.

The food was absolutely delicious. The plates are massive and shareable, and pairing our meals with a bottle of wine was perfect. Service was efficient, although the space is smaller making the staff kind of surround the tables and feels like they are watching over... regardless, they were friendly and ensured we had everything we needed throughhout our meal. I can't tell if this place is a joke or not. From the moment you walk in the door, country music is playing? Okay fine, I can handle a little quirk at my restaurants. Service was fine, but gradually slowed down as they got busy and didn't seem to have the staff to handle it. The main concern is the food. This is indian food for people who think mayonnaise is spicy. It's a comical excuse for indian food and I have had much better grocery store indian food than what I ate at Mother India. I'm pretty convinced this place is purely a tourist trap that actually puts no care into making truly authentic Indian cuisine.

Having read most of the recent reviews, I can not agree at all with the ones stated as average or below. The first thing to say is that it gets very busy, so booking seems essential. It was packed when we visited, and that was mid week. I cannot see it being disabled friendly in any way! It is a climb up a narrow, poorly lit staircase to a dining room where access between tables is limited. It is beautifully decorated and appeared clean and well looked after. The staff, while not being outstanding , were polite, attentive, well presented and friendly. The service was a little slow, but being a party of 12 along with a packed dining room, I would expect this. While as others have said the menu is limited for an Indian restaurant, the food was very good indeed. It was hot, nicely spiced, well presented and tasty. The portions were more than adequate, in fact we asked for some not we had not eaten to be taken out. There is an extensive wine and drinks list. I have had better a couple of times, but have had far far worse. Not bad value for money, coming in at around £350 for a party of 12, having starters, mains, sides and drinks. Overall a great visit to a really nice restaurant. We would quite happily go back.

Very disappointing, this used to be my favourite restaurant, I ordered the spicy keema dosa which was soggy and definitely not spicy basically tasteless. Then ordered a lamb karahi which was very disappointing, the sauce was bland an the lamb was tough. When I gave feedback to the waitress she apologised and agreed and also told us that other customers had also complained about the lamb. So obviously either management didn't get the feedback or they don't about customer complaints. As I said, this used to be my favourite restaurant but after that meal I won't be rushing back.

I will never give this place my hard earned cash again. Do not believe the reviews. This place is poor. Could not wait to pay my bill and get Out. Very disappointed.

Firm family favourite, Mother India never disappoints. We got assigned great seats in the first floor, place to be, the staff were excellent as always. Food amazing and plentiful. If you love a good curry, this is the place to be in Glasgow.

The dishes were tasty and good quality. A little bit cramped, but this is due to the restaurants popularity. Very well served and definitely going back.

Place is closed completely yet still taking table bookings? Should probably be mentioned up front...

Staff not wearing the gloves and getting ready the food. Food not hygiene.
