Amazing x 100% recommend going here. If you have not tried Ethiopian/Eritrean food you have truly missed out on a treat. I can’t believe more of it is not about. Went with daughter who had stayed in both countries and said food was as she remembered so authentic too . The tea is excellent accompaniment to the food. Go and Enjoy

Feel sad writing this as the meal was delicious and service very good, but my husband and I ordered the veggie special which is listed on the menu as £35 (both online and in the restaurant.) When we came to pay the bill we were charged £48!! I queried this and was told by the young man in charge that the manager had changed the prices but hadn't got round to updating the menu yet and there was nothing he could do! Fair enough maybe if it was a quid or two, but a thirteen quid increase!! Particularly in the current climate with people struggling, for many a meal out is a rare treat that is carefully budgeted for and, for us, this spoiled the experience. it's not like the menus are fancy- they're pieces of laminated card they could have stuck a sticker over it with the new price- or at least warned us when we ordered. We felt this was dishonest, and in truth, although the food was tasty, £48 was overpriced for what we were served, and the overall experience. Not sure if it was just this dish, or others too. Be sure to clarify the price before ordering!!

We ordered a veg and meat combo for 2, the food was superb, very tasty, fresh and more than enough. The staff were so friendly and told us how the food was cooked and they performed a coffee ceremony for us. It was a wonderful experience, I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. I can tell it will become one of my frequent haunts. It really is a gem of a place, just a relaxed atmosphere, fantastic food and lovely staff.

My son was very keen to try Mosob and we visited on our way to a concert at Newcastle Arena. The restaurant was upstairs and occupied a large space with Eritrean themed decor. There were six tables but only half were taken. We chose the meat/veg combo but didn't realise it came with lots of fermented bread. The bread had an acquired taste and not a nice one. The meat and veg dishes were also a disappointment - they looked nicely prepared but other than one of the spicy lamb dishes for us they were rather lacking in flavour. Prices were reasonable, but service though friendly was too casual. We're glad we visited because the experience was an interesting one, but I don't think we'll be rushing back.

Absolute hidden gem. The food is so tasty. We had 2 lamb dishes and a salad and all of it was fantastic. So full of flavour and a good spice level. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. The lady that served us was very friendly too. Highly recommend a visit if you're on the area.

One of those hidden gems / best kept secrets, but once you know, you know! I have eaten here 3 times now, and ordered takeaway too! The food is delicious! Flavoursome, fresh, feels so healthy, and something that many people may not have tried before. It is beautifully presented, and you get a sense of Eritrean culture through the food, the serving/presentation, the coffee ritual (the aroma of the beans being roasted in the area set up for it amongst the guests tables is delicious), and the friendly couple who run Mosob Gezana, who take the time to talk to you about the menu and options, and can tell you more about Eritrea and Ethiopia if you are interested or have questions. I would recommend this place to anyone, and will keep returning whenever I can!

The food was just delicious. The vegetarian platter for two had a generous portion size, with plenty of injera bread (the fermented and spongy staple). Atmosphere was warm and cosy, we found ourselves lose track of time as we enjoyed our dinner with plenty of Asmara beer!

Having recently travelled to Ethiopia I was already aware the brilliance of the cuisine, with the hearty fulfillment from the injera and the exquisite depth of flavour from the various spiced curries. However I could not have expected a better experience of this food in the UK from my trip to Mosob. An unorthodox entrance to the restaurant up a flight of stairs as if to a flat is somewhat surprising, but don't let that put you off! Once upstairs you will feel as if you have stepped right off the flight in Addis Ababa, greeted with traditional Ethiopian music and decor. The food is delicious, great for sharing and varied enough to suit all tastes. As long as you enjoy the rich nutty sourdough bread/pancake (injera), and can get used to using it as both plate and cutlery, you will have brilliant time sampling the different types of meat and vegetable curries.Would thoroughly recommend to all, and can't wait for my next visit!

Don't be put off by the obscure location or the utilitarian entrance stairs. This is now one of my favourite places to eat in Newcastle. I went with my wife on a quiet weekday evening. All of the other customers were (I presume) Ethiopian or Eritrean, which was a good sign of authentic food. There is a friendly, informal atmosphere. We shared a veggie platter, which was excellent value at £12.

I absolutely love Ethiopian food and was pleasantly surprised to find this place in Newcastle. It's a five minute walk from the train station and you have to the door next to a small shop and up the stairs, but you'll see the sign above the door. The staff is super friendly and I think the guy I always see is the manager and he's always great and welcoming. I usually get the vegetarian platter for 2, which I eat with 3 other people. The serving for that is quite large and it's so delicious! I haven't tried too many of the other dishes yet, but would definitely recommend!! I've eaten in once and also got takeaway another time. GREAT choices to take your vegetarian friends or anyone for that matter.

We visited Mosob twice in our trip up to Newcastle from London. We've dined at Ethiopian restaurants before in London and love the injera, spices and coffee, so wanted to try this restaurant in Newcastle. The food and the ambience were excellent. I would personally highly recommend the Derek Tibs (barbecued lamb) and Shiro. The coffee ceremony was also brilliant, with a nice touch of ginger added to the coffee. In all - the food and coffee was better than many restaurants in London. The atmosphere was welcoming and family friendly (we came with two young kids), relaxing and the Ethiopian music was great.

Sometimes the most wonderful food experiences start with a slight nervousness. As it was last night when my pal confidently guided us into a lesser-known part of town, stopped outside an unassuming door, took us up a flight of stairs and led us into, what can only be described as food heaven. I first experienced and loved Ethiopian food in San Francisco but did not imagine I would get the chance to experience such cuisine and cooked by people from Eritrea, right in the heart of my hometown, Newcastle.

I thought that I'd tried food from most cuisines - but then I tried the Ethiopian food that Mosob offers. It was honestly the best food that I've had in Newcastle.
