One of the best, if not the best, Indian restaurants in Newcastle. Serving traditional Indian food, skewered Nan breads in different flavours, vibrant curries brought to you directly from the pan, this is truly somewhere to go if you are searching for an exceptional meal. The waiter Ali was very helpful and polite.

I ordered paneer butter masala and paneer pakora . It was good.

First time visiting and definitely will be back again. The restaurant was very clean from top to bottom including the toilets! The food itself was outstanding quality and our server Ali was superb and very helpful.

Restaurant no. 2 on our 'curry club' journey around Newcastle was Akbar's. It's a big place. Easy to get to. My go to main on this journey is a Rogan Josh. Definitely not as good as our previous restaurant (nor even the majority of takeaways i've tried). Maybe it was just different, but I wasn't overwhelmed. The Bindi Bhaji was ok too. However, the highlight (and I suspect what most people come for) are the family naan. It was delicious. For a naan that size, it was light and fluffy and crispy and flavourful. A real delight. Service and atmosphere were both very good as well. I will definitely return and try an alternative main. For now, it's on to the next one.

Absolutely the best Indian in town. Food is amazing. The service here is unbeatable, absolutely top notch!!!!. We’ve been a few times now with my wife and two kids and the restaurant manager always gives us our little area with some extra space. We recently got served by Leo who was absolutely amazing. Didn’t need to ask him for anything and was always on top of everything. Brilliant experience guys. Thank you.

First time at the Akbar's Newcastle was on 19Dec2024 and just wow! The service was excellent especially the staff who attended us Leo . !! The ambience, lighting and atmosphere was superb. I highly recommend the butter chicken with big garlic Nan really delicious and flavourful. And this is our third time visit to try for a Biriyani and I’m waiting for it so i think to update the review about my previous visit . Everything is Absolutely amazing. 1st time visited and was not disappointed. Ali our waiter was lovely, attentive without being overbearing. Food was delicious. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be returning. We couldn't eat all our main courses so came away with a doggy bag. Lunch tomorrow.

I suggest choosing a different restaurant that truly cares for its customers. I visited this establishment on New Year's Eve, and while I understand it was crowded, the food took way too long to arrive. Although the starters were timely, the food quality fell short of expectations. They do not serve any salad or sauces with the starters, which I haven't encountered in any Newcastle restaurant or elsewhere. I ordered one portion of Fish Pakoras and two portions of Chicken Tikka, each containing four pieces of Fish Pakoras and two pieces of Chicken Tikka. I went with my wife and kids, and we waited 30 minutes for a Karahi Chicken and a Plain Nan to arrive. My wife, a chef, noted that what was served was not a true Karahi Chicken; it lacked any flavour, and she could have prepared a better dish herself. I recognise that one might think if that’s the case, it’s better to stay home and skip the restaurant experience altogether, yet one expects a certain standard when dining out. The restaurant was busy, and the staff appeared overwhelmed. My recommendation is to try Aneesa's instead; I spent £50 here, which included four Pepsi drinks. This experience was not worth the £50, especially considering I could have enjoyed a more reliable buffet at Aneesa's for £60 for my family on a Tuesday. I did communicate the long wait to the staff after the starters, but they responded that it was busy, and there was little they could do.

It's alright, meal was good nothing stood out on the menu and what we ordered I guess was ok but in general yeah it was an alright place to have a meal. Staff/service was quick and attentive.

OK not really worth the money went with a party of 5 and spent well over 160 pound wasn't that impressed after reading good reviews. Pricey for the potion sizes and sides. Service was OK the bloke serving was a bit miserable. Atmosphere is OK.

Had my dad's 70th birthday meal here and everything was lovely. The staff were great! Extremely attentive and went above and beyond. The food was lovely as always would definitely recommend.

Great food and lovely ambiance. We still preferred the branch in Manchester but nevertheless, this restaurant is worth visiting if you are in Newcastle. The "Desi Apna" menu is the menu to choose your dishes.

This restaurant is the best Indian in Newcastle. It is by The Balmoral hotel which is half an hour walking distance from the city centre. It has its own car park and it is ample. The staff is very friendly, they dress uniforms and they are very smart, the same as the clients that come with their best clothes. The menu is excellent and the price is very good. I liked the decorations and how they serve the bread. The tables and chairs are very comfortable and beautiful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for your next day out.

The food was very delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It is one of the best Indian restaurants. I have a simple comment, and this does not diminish the quality of the food at all, but it is a simple comment (there was a lot of oil in the food. I wish it was less than that). Thank you.

Went to Akbars Newcastle last night and was amazed by their authentic Indian food. Best starters and spicy main courses. They had best Chicken Nambali and lamb chops were on the point. You have to try their curry’s (they are curry king). We, unfortunately, asked them to cook very spicy curry and they were lil high than what I do but always nice to get a kick. Taste is 10/10.

Overall service, food quality and atmosphere good. The portion side could be better. Eg. Rice. Dhal compared to the price as its low value. Although, says chicken wings on the menu, dish comes each with only a part of the wing. So, it's better to say half a chicken- wing to be accurate. 😃

Restaurant was nice , food was good. The waiter Mr Gopu was very nice , he has good knowledge of dishes and he handled everything very nicely. The service was very fast .

Delicious food. We ordered Papadom, Lamb Shank and Chicken Boneless. All dishes were tasty.. The big Garlic Naan is always our family favourite!

We had a lovely meal - the meat pulao is especially recommended. We were served by Kamran, who was really attentive and the service was great!

Second time here. Came with a friend and was served by Gopin. The service was brilliant, great attention to our requirements and great rapport. The food was very good. Love love loved the liver tikka. Would go again.

Ambience is too dark. Food was below average. Main course curries were very disappointing. Too dry and no flavour whatsoever. Nihari was another disaster. No flavour bad ( too thick consistency) . Over all not a good experience. Service was ok.

It's awfully gloomy in here. The most of the food we had was bland and uninspired; the only item we enjoyed was the lamb charsi kadai with naan. The portion for most items is tiny. And curries with absolutely no gravy. Nihari itself had a dry curry-like flavour.

Excellent service by Gopu, he introduced himself, took the order, and made some good suggestions from the menu . My Family thoroughly enjoyed the food and service by the staff especially gopu. Meat Karai was a good dish to try . The only suggestion was they could reduce some oil especially on palak paneer. I would definitely recommend the restaurant friends and family. The ambience and decor was good as well.

Beautiful restaurant, quality food and amazing staff including the cute guy at the front.

Friendly staff and wonderful fast service. We have come here three times and have never been disappointed. Lamb charsi is incredible, but chicken charsi is also amazing. Dishes are not oily or with food colouring (like in some restaurants) - which tells you of their excellent standards. We shared one lamb charsi with naan between two people and this was more than enough for a dinner meal. Thank you to the incredible staff at Newcastle Akbar for a wonderful evening. The staff were also kind enough to keep us separate from a crowdy main area, and relocated us to quieter seating - always so considerate to certain requests.
