Fantastic service. I felt well taken care of, from asking about appetizers to a hot hand towel. Aromatic, delicious food. I regret not coming back here soon!

Can’t recommend Akhbars Newcastle enough! The food is great but the staff are exceptional. So friendly and can not do enough for you. Always have a great experience. The music is also amazing!!!

Me and my friend had such an amazing dinner here at Akbars. The food was really nice and we were served by Isa who gave really good customer service. Would definitely be coming again.

Gorgeous food, brilliant service. Very welcoming. We asked for our meal to come traditional style and the flavours were great, especially the charsi. Our waiter was Isa, so sweet and professional and took time to explain the dishes to us. Lovely atmosphere, good tunes and comfy restaurant. Will definitely be back x

Visiting Newcastle and staying in hotel that is attached to this restaurant and thought would try and just wow !! Top class service from moment you entered till you left nothing was too much trouble, someone there if you wanted anything and the food was amazing too, pity I live so far away !

Overall service, food quality and atmosphere good. The portion side could be better. Eg. Rice. Dhal compared to the price as its low value. Although, says chicken wings on the menu, dish comes each with only a part of the wing. So, it's better to say half a chicken- wing to be accurate. 😃

Delicious food. We ordered Papadom, Lamb Shank and Chicken Boneless. All dishes were tasty.. The big Garlic Naan is always our family favourite!

Second time here. Came with a friend and was served by Gopin. The service was brilliant, great attention to our requirements and great rapport. The food was very good. Love love loved the liver tikka. Would go again.

It's awfully gloomy in here. The most of the food we had was bland and uninspired; the only item we enjoyed was the lamb charsi kadai with naan. The portion for most items is tiny. And curries with absolutely no gravy. Nihari itself had a dry curry-like flavour.

Ambience is too dark. Food was below average. Main course curries were very disappointing. Too dry and no flavour whatsoever. Nihari was another disaster. No flavour bad ( too thick consistency) . Over all not a good experience. Service was ok.

Excellent service by Gopu, he introduced himself, took the order, and made some good suggestions from the menu . My Family thoroughly enjoyed the food and service by the staff especially gopu. Meat Karai was a good dish to try . The only suggestion was they could reduce some oil especially on palak paneer. I would definitely recommend the restaurant friends and family. The ambience and decor was good as well.

Friendly staff and wonderful fast service. We have come here three times and have never been disappointed. Lamb charsi is incredible, but chicken charsi is also amazing. Dishes are not oily or with food colouring (like in some restaurants) - which tells you of their excellent standards. We shared one lamb charsi with naan between two people and this was more than enough for a dinner meal. Thank you to the incredible staff at Newcastle Akbar for a wonderful evening. The staff were also kind enough to keep us separate from a crowdy main area, and relocated us to quieter seating - always so considerate to certain requests.

Absolutely exceptional service today from staff in particular (kannan) from Newcastle akbars. Food was 100/10, they got my charsi chicken curry on point 👌🏽Definitely the best Akbars I’ve eaten at.

First time at the new Akbar's, and just wow! The service was exceptional!! The ambience, lighting and atmosphere was dreamy. The food was out of this world. I highly recommend the Masala Fish (cod) for starters. The naan bread (or should I say carpet 😂) was incredible. I had the vegetable madras, which was so flavourful. Thank you so much for making my birthday very special. Cannot wait to return

The service and atmosphere was good BUT THE FOOD WAS AWFUL. over priced and underwhelming. Do not order the mocktails- we sent ours back as they were just awful. Bad experience and thoroughly regret spending all that money on substandard cuisine.

Loved the food that I had here. The food was very tasty. I had vegetarian food and even though the restaurant is popular for non vegetarian food , I completely loved my vegetarian food. I had Samosa chat, spicy palak panner , bhindi Rogan josh with garlic naan. Loved the ambience also. Highly commendable!!!

Service was really good the waitress was fully informed the cocktails and nan where really nice the the rice and the curry not so good the deco looks good it's a liitle bit dark could do with some more lighting properly warm white will suit it tryed again it was better the curry was quit large the nans are quit big they serve alcohol as well it's chilled out little busy cozy it's a little pricey

Upon arrival was seated opposite a group of about 20 people far to noisy so asked to be moved, we were quickly shown to another area of the restaurant and seated, the food was amazing, attentive staff who were very jolly even though it was a busy sat night, the whole place had a lovely atmosphere about it, been wanting to try this place for a good few year and wow it didn’t disappoint Would highly recommend and I will be going back, best place I’ve been to for a curry Well done to all the staff and chef

I have visited this branch of Akbars twice in the past 12 months and the service and food here has been nothing short of fantastic. The lamb chops here have a slightly different masala to those of other Akbars, but this makes them even tastier. The service was excellent, the staff here really do take pride in providing a high level of customer service.

We asked if they could accommodate a large group of 30 of us. The service they provided was so great! Kind staff, and the food is phenomenal! Best curry in town! We come back here every time we visit Gateshead!

Heard good things about this place, so thought I'd give it a shot. I was served by a lovely lad called Gopu who helped me pick out a new curry I'd never tried before and wouldn't have picked otherwise which turned out to be one of the best curries I've ever had. The meat was well cooked and the portions were huge. Service was very efficient and I'll definely be going back again soon. Seeing a lot of bad reviews comparing it to other Akbars. Only tried this one so can't compare to the rest of the chain but if you're local thinking of trying it, don't be put off by them.

I booked a table for 4 people, we arrived late and there were 5 of us. The waiter was completely fine and simply adapted, giving us a lovely corner table. The waiter Gopa was polite and friendly, I had the best Takka Dahl I’ve ever had - I could taste the freshness in the spices - and we all enjoyed the atmosphere too. I shall be going there again for my birthday. Just lovely 😊

I have been a dedicated and loyal customer of Akbars for over 13 years. I have been twice here. The first was a complete disaster. I only came this time on the instructions of the Area Manager Dhillon. Even then this branch is poor. Staff poor. Sardar, the Head chef is very lacklustre and has a very poor attitude. Did not even have his long hair curls on the side covered in a net/hat! Is this how a chef should portray himself? No professionalism. He said plainly he had only been here for 4 months and is still under training. That is no excuse as the restaurant is charging extortionate prices for a Head Chef who admits he is not up to scratch as he has only been here 4 months. That shows his lack or no motivation at all and completely being oblivious as he said he has not received any complaints! I witnessed other customers complaining. The Haleem i ordered was like porridge/weetabix. It had no tarqa. When it was redone it was overpowered with ginger! Complete disaster. Don’t serve food altogether. When they serve curries they always serve first curries, you then wait 4-5 mins for your naan. Whilst you are sat looking at your curries going cold. Naan cold. Crispy onions were prepacked and stuck together like cement. This again i witnessed happening with other customers. It happened to me twice on the day. Also they served the meal whilst we were still having our appetisers and had not even finished it. Absolutely atrocious. Resent all food back and the same mistakes were repeated the second time. Spoke to the Head Chef and his second in line who is from Kashmir both very rude and not at all loyal to Akbars. I recommend to others having a negative experience to try Akbar’s in Middlesbrough. Huge contrast. Sadly will never come back to Newcastle even living 5 mins from it. Would rather drive 1hr to Middlesbrough instead of spending 1 minute in the Newcastle branch. I cannot see this restaurant being successful if drastic changes don’t take place from top to bottom particularly all the staff present there. Particularly the head chef and all waiters poor and lacking smiles and general courtesy. Head chef i called upon and he said we cannot make curries how they do in Pakistan! If that is the case then don’t call yourselves the King of Curry and Akbar’s meaning the GREAT! It definitely isn’t in Newcastle but in Middlesbrough it is definitely a branch to try as it is well run with a dedicated team of staff. And the food is great in Middlesbrough. This branch is bringing a bad name to Akbars. Drastic and immediate changes required from removing Head chef, his colleagues and all waiters including managers (Suman/Ries) are completely lacklustre and not even bothered about complaints. Rather Ries was sat in front of me and was more interested in eating his own food and lamb chops he ordered (free probably) whilst we were sat dissatisfied and not once did he even enquire on what is the issue. No apologies received from anyone. I only went here a second time on the instructions of Dhillon and Raaj. Never again until the staff is cleared out and refreshed with new loyal and dedicated blood to bring back the glory days of Akbars as was in the old Newcastle branch. With this branch as it is, this is nowhere near even a 1 star. Staff behaviour is disgraceful. Desi tea is not even worth saying anything on. See photos

I had an amazing experience at Akbars. The food was amazing. I went there with a couple of friends and they all loved it. The service was also amazing. Servers all had a positive energy. We had lamb charsi and garlic naan. And also other starters like sheekh kabab etc. overall amazing and will be returning soon.

I had the pleasure of dining Akbar's recently and tried their lamb charsi with garlic naan. It was an absolute delight! The lamb charsi apna style was bursting with flavors, and the lamb was tender and delicious. The garlic naan was the perfect accompaniment, freshly baked and perfectly crispy. The service was top-notch, and the ambiance was lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel for a delightful dining experience. I can't wait to go back for more!

We were group of 16 reserved the table for Sunday evening, as soon as we arrived been seated which is a good sign that shows they respect the reservation during busy time as well, the staff received welcomed us with smile which is most welcoming, which we can't see in most of the restaurants, the decor is fantastic, I can even call it as masterpiece, we weren't rushed to place the order they gave fair amount of time to settle down, and the waitress asked for popadums and drinks order, the drinks and popadums came in no time their chutneys are the best, we all ordered starters first been informed 20 mins for starters after the order taken which is really good, starters arrived before the time I had lamb chops finger licking good, not only that all other starters are very good, no complaints, after the waitress cleared the starters we been provided with napkins and fresh set of cutleries, and we ordered for the second round of drinks, we got our main course after 15 mins served by chef's which is a nice touch, being an only asian in the group I ordered for Haleem VOW I never had this kind of Haleem in my life, at some point my friend's started stealing my food, probably the best chef, their Nan breads are massive and soft we ordered for 5 garlic nan and 5 peshwari nan, all the five garlic nan in same quality so do peshwari nan awesome, we been checked twice about the food and drink by 2 different person, which is very good, for the whole night we don't need to look for any person to help us, the service is fantastic each and every person in the group were happy about the service and satisfied. Overall very the best restaurant in Newcastle with good food, drinks and service, I recommend to everyone, we will be back for office Christmas party

We attended for a stag do and will not be returning! The food was not up to the standard of other akbars we've attended! The chicken was like it'd been bought from aldi the Ashfield range and the sauce was George tomato soup from asda! Very poor in my opinion but to be fair 3 of the group did in fact enjoy there meal! 👍

Service was good but food not!! Taste wise probably worst of Akbar branches. And please do NOT order Charsi Karahi, it is bland curry with lack of seasoning and certainly not a karahi!!! Food quality has declined significantly since Akbar reopened Newcastle branch.

5 STAR food, atmosphere, staff! Cannot be beaten for authentic punjabi curries in Newcastle and always go over and above with extras and outstanding waiter and chef service with a smile.

I’ve been four times at this place since it’s been open in this place. Not once I’ve had good experience with the food. The curries are overly loaded with oil drowning the taste. The rice dishes are not flagrant, again over fried. The menu does not speak well for the food served. I hope you get some authentic people cooking fresh in the kitchen.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Newcastle. A lot of my friends were sad when the Akbar closed in Waterloo street. The best cheesy Nan you will get and one of the best Chicken Curry. The alternative to Biryani was not so good, and we would suggest to go back to it. The other options like the sheesh kebab was delicious.

The food was banging! The atmosphere in the restaurant is sophisticated and calming. The staff are very attentative and friendly. I ordered the butter chicken curry with garlic naan and it was to die for. Definitely need to go back!

Absolutely amazing food and service. Interior is class , atmosphere is great , food is delicious , portion size is massive, staff is very helpful and polite. The only downside is speaker above each table that's a bit on the loud side but it's not a massive issue.

OK not really worth the money went with a party of 5 and spent well over 100 pound wasn't that impressed after reading good reviews. Pricey for the potion sizes and sides. Service was OK the bloke serving was a bit miserable. Atmosphere is OK.

Slick operation with great food and attentive staff. Always served quickly and food is piping hot. Waiter was well informed and polite to boot. Only slight critism is drinks prices, but a small blemish considering portion sizes and flavour.

The food was tasty, especially the lamp charsi ,Nan bread was very nice, and the service wise it was so good. Mr.Kannan helped in selecting the best dishes. We enjoyed the food.

Really disappointed with the quality of meat used! The seekh kebab and lamb curry smelt bad! The chicken nambali was just loaded with cheese and only had a few small pieces of boiled chicken, this was definitely not how authentic chicken nambali should be like! The butter chicken really took me by surprise, I only tried it and left the entire serving, the sauce tasted of nothing, nothing like authentic butter chicken, just chicken and a cheap jar sauce! Definitely not coming back!

Our waiter Gopu was amazing and ensured we had an amazing time, he was friendly during our whole visit and made it all worth while. Furthermore, he continuously asked us how we were and was incredibly friendly he even took our family photo for us. He always had a smile on his face and made us feel so welcome and made us want to definitely revisit this restaurant, so thank you so much to Gopu!

Not much choice in food. Prawns were shrimps fri0ed up to tiny rubber bullets, not much taste to dish, no choice of rice the only rice was poor, the best part of meal is the tasty nan but again no choice but garlic. Been before many years ago and definatley not as good and certainly not as good as other resturants.
