Morris's Hotel & Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

We’ve been to Morris’s hotel (Jock’s) many times for supper, we thought we’d give it a try for breakfast and although we were told we didn’t need to book, we decided to book ahead - on hindsight, I’m not sure if this was a good idea as they knew we were coming and got the impression that the breakfast items were probably precooked prior to us ordering them. We all had the full breakfast and two pots of tea were ordered, one to come whilst we were waiting for our breakfast and the other to come later when our breakfast arrived. Both came at once , and we had to ask for a pot of boiling water, breakfast when it came wasn’t anywhere near hot enough but plenty of it, no marmalade for the toast and had to settle for jam. I wouldn’t return for breakfast, there were four of us and we were the only ones there until another couple arrived as we were leaving, I would return for lunch or supper but need to improve greatly on their breakfast.

There were 4 of us having lunch. This location was suggested by our two friends who have eaten there before. It has its own car park across from the hotel, which was ideal. On entering, I would say that it initially had the appearance of a 3 star hotel, so the restaurant was an eye opener, spacious, roomy and definitely pleasant. There was a ‘ daily specials ‘ menu and a set menu. After due deliberation we all decided on the mince and tatties which was recommended by our friends. We were not disappointed. The plates arrived after only a few minutes. A large plate of mince, with small steamed potatoes mince and skirly. The ladies had ordered small portions which quite frankly was more than sufficient. The mince was tasty, the potatoes perfect. It was the type of meal your granny would have been proud to cook. We will be back. Extremely good food at a very reasonable price. A hidden culinary gem.

Really disappointed that when I asked for pate there was none and this is the second time this month .I ordered the broccoli and Stilton soup which was saltly and had hardly any taste of broccoli So disappointed.

I made a booking for 7. In fact that should have been 9. My error. Thankfully the staff accommodated us and rubbed in the fact I couldn't count 😉😭🤣😭🤣. The food was excellent. The staff were efficient, friendly and patient with our children who can be indecisive. Helpings were more than adequate and nicely presented. I am always impressed by staff who remember who ordered what. Especially with our family. The bill was reasonable. First class experience. Thanks.

Dinner with friends was great with good selection of seasonal dishes alongside the more traditional choices. Beef olives were exceptional and the turkey was also well received. Servers were great and were well organised.

Robin, the manager came to my rescue when I found the accommodation I had previously booked for a one night stay nearby was closed! The hotel has apartments next door which are really nice. Spotless, self catering, comfy and have everything in them that you could possibly need. He was even kind enough (totally unprompted) to provide fresh milk so I could have a cuppa and a selection of cereals for breakfast! Ate in the hotel restaurant and had a delicious ribeye steak, cooked to perfection and served by a delightful lady and at very reasonable cost. Had the warmest of welcomes and couldn’t recommend highly enough and would most definitely return if in the area again. Thank you and we’ll done! A very happy customer.

Stayed in Morris’s self catering apartments whilst working in the area, highly recommended. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. The owner was more than helpful and very friendly.

We’ve lived in Meldrum for the last 13 years and this was the first, definitely not the last visit to Morris’ restaurant! A rare child free evening we took advantage of the eat out to help out scheme and we weren’t disappointed. I had scampi and my husband had the fish and chips. Both portions were huge, fresh and piping hot. We shared sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake cake for pudding and both left having ate too much! The service was great, the two ladies serving were polite and friendly.

Firstly have to say even booking a table for the two of us was a pleasure. Made it easy and fun, yes fun. Great sense of humour. The place itself was spotless and made to feel safe with all social distancing adheared to. The service was quick, polite and they took an interest. The food was 5 star. Had the lunch menu which for two courses was £10 each. The choice of food was varied but not overwhelming. The portions were huge so remember that when ordering as I struggled to finish my main. Honest pub grub. Thank you for a pleasant afternoon

Had a lovely meal here on a Friday night as wee treat. Phoned & booked table 1st and glad we did as was busier than we expected. The menu was varied and the staff were very attentive & always cleaning after tables were vacated. The food was lovely but b aware the helpings are huge. I had give up on mine but it was very good. Prices are very reasonable too. Would highly recommend. Keep up the good work guys the place looks lovely since I last visited which was quite a while ago. Will defo b back.

Visited on a busy night but were warmly welcomed. Ordered starters which arrived quickly but bread rolls not fresh. Fish & chips had clearly been kept warm prior to arriving at table so fish had dried our and chips were not hot, not to the usual standard which was disappointing, and staff were busy so couldn't resolve the issue.

My wife and I went there last night for our evening meal. We had booked prior to arrival and were shown to our table. Everything was spaced out to try and maintain social distancing, and whilst there the tables and chairs were being sanitised prior to the next customers arriving. On being shown to our table I noticed a number of other diners with lovely look food on there plates. I opted for the fish and chips it was huge and excellent tasting and value for money. It’s been a while since I last had a meal here but I’m going to return very soon. I only wish I had room for a sweet. I did however see sweets being served in the restaurant again they were large portions and looked fantastic. I am most definitely going to return.

I'm stunned that after living in the area for the last five years, this is our first visit to the restaurant. Food was fantastic, service was great and there was no gripes after we requested a dustpan and brush after the two toddlers in our group launched the majority of their sweetcorn onto the floor. The burger I had was fantastic. I wasn't sure when it arrived with no lettuce, tomato or sauce on it, but it absolutely didn't need it. Sourced from the local Presley's Butcher, it tasted fantastic. We'll definitely come back here again, sooner rather than later!

The oldest building in the village, the restaurant is small, cosy and comfortable. Their food is wholesome, freshly prepared and reasonably priced. The staff are exceptionally pleasant. We have been there several times, and I’m sure we will go back soon. If you haven’t been there, GO!

I have had the pleasure of visiting this bar and restaurant many times in the past two or three years and have found the food is amazing. The presentation is of the highest level and the standard of food is unbelievable. You will be amazed by the size of the portion you receive and the friendliness of the staff in both the restaurant and the bar. The local customers are very friendly also. This place is such a treat to visit and always very friendly staff who serve great food. The menu has a good variety and daily specials are always worth trying. If you’re after some home style cooking, try the mince & tatties!!

Visited here today for the second time, love it. The waitresses Morag and Sarah are welcoming, friendly and professional. Great service from them. The food was delicious and hot. We had chicken fillets and chips, pork In a Cajun sauce with rice both plates were empty! Topped it off with pudding warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and sticky toffee pudding with cream. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area. We most certainly will be back.

We arrived without a reservation but were welcomed with a big smile by Morag (what an asset!). The menu was well supported with some specials although for a non-meat eater there is not as much choice as there could be.We ordered burgers and fish & chips. The food arrived quickly and piping hot, and wow, what a plate of food. The fish was delicious and clearly fresh, and the burgers were tasty and quickly devoured. The choice of salad (1st world problems!!) instead of veg was fine, but was the most disappointing element of the dinner - not at all inspired (lettuce, tomato and a slice of cucumber). Some hand cut chips would also go a long way to making this an even better dining experience.Overall a good experience and we are all likely to return.

Touristen findet man hier eher seltener. Gerade das macht das Besondere dieses einfach möblierten Restaurants aus. Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam. Der Fisch war erstaunlich wohlschmeckend zubereitet. Sind wir in der Gegend, werden wir erneut das Restaurant besuchen - ein gelungener Kontrast zum Meldrum-Hote.

Although the food was very good unfortunately the service was dire last nightIt took 40 minutes to finally take our drinks order and well over an hour to be served our food Granted it was very busy but a group that came in 20 minutes after us were served drinks almost straight away and food 30 minutes before us and every other table seemed to be getting a reasonable service but even after 10.30 it was a challenge to get served drinksIt was only the fact we were in a group of 9 that I didn't walk out before we were finally served our drinksWe have been here many times before and had received reasonably good friendly service

Seated very promptly, with menu, there was a Specials board also, we chose the cream of Brocolli Soup , followed by beer battered haddock, helpings were so big we had no room for Desserts, all In all a very pleasant lunch where the service could not be faulted, highly recommend this hotel.

The first visit a few years ago for lunch was fairly average I thought. However when there for my second visit recently the food and service was fantastic. I had the steak pie which is from the local butcher's. Good portions and competitively priced. Nice selection of beers on tap. Recommended.

We are regular customers of this lovely restaurant. Very friendly staff and they have specials in addition to their regular menu.

Consistently great Scottish food, home made soup changes daily with mince, mealie and tatties are like your grandma used to make.

Visited for a catch up with a friend. We both enjoyed our meals. Chilli con carne with rice, nachos and sour cream was delicious as was my friends chicken & broccoli lasagne. Great prices. Will be back soon.

We stopped off one Sunday on the way home we were lucky to get a table as the place was really busy the food was absolutely delicious and the helpings were plentiful I wasn't sure if I should indulge in a sweet but decided on the cheesecake but it was so light just perfect for finishing off my meal. The staff are so nice and friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our meals. 5*

First time eating again here in over 2 years . Food still as good as I remember. Great selection on menu. Highly recommend, a booking is a must at the weekend.

On a day trip to Oldmeldrum, we stopped for lunch. The salmon salad was superb! The kitchen staff did a great job!

Vi var ute etter en rask lunsj og gikk inn på dette stille stedet. Vi ble møtt av to svært blide og hyggelige damer og straks henvist plass. Ølen stod iskald på bordet etter et minutt. Dagens gulrotsuppe med koriander smakte fantastisk. Toast var perfekt og med fiske grønnsaker til. Rekecictailen var slik jeg husker den for 30 år siden hjemme i Norge. Dette var en fantastisk og uventet opplevelse. Prisen på 20£ var rimelig

We stopped by for an evening meal & the place was really busy with a large group of ladies. We were served really quickly though & honestly we've never encountered such friendly service. The food was excellent & we had a chat & a laugh with both girls on duty. They even offered to run us back to our hotel when the taxi was late! Would wholeheartedly recommend.

I have now eaten at this hotel at least six times and been very pleased on each occasion. The choices and quality of the food was very good, the staff were all very nice and attentive. We have always found a very nice atmosphere which encourages us to continue visiting.

Two friends my husband and I had a meal here on Saturday our food was all excellent The restaurant was very nice and the staff very helpful polite and efficient

We live locally and met some family members here for a Saturday lunch. Staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed tasty main courses and managed to squeeze in delicious desserts too. I had my 6 year old with me who's not terribly keen on children's menu items but the lady who took our order was really flexible when I asked if he could have the hot smoked salmon starter with some changes as he has a food intolerance. I had the hot smoked salmon as a main course salad and it was lovely. I also especially enjoyed the fruit compote that was served with the meringue. I think we all cleared our plates! We also didn't feel rushed even though we were the last guests to leave.

Had our first visit to this lovely restaurant last night and I have to say the food was delicious. Also very friendly helpful staff. We will definitely visit again.

Been a few times and always the same. Good quality of food and portion sizes, great for families and best thing is the staff. They are really nice on each occasion, nothing ever seems a problem. Highly recommend to locals and visitors of area. Fish and chips is really good here. Good for little ones also v accomodating

Was here for an evening meal. Quickly shown to our seats. Menu is varied with many homemade choices available. Staff are genuinely friendly and the place has a homely and relaxed feel and family friendly. Service was quick. Food is great and portions sizes are good and it doesn’t cost the earth either. A little gem in oldmeldrum. Can’t wait to come back.

Booked a table here for a business meeting . The food was very good and the staff were so friendly . The host Robin welcomed us in and his good lady showed us to our table . The menu was varied and good value . Service was quite quick in this busy restaurant. Typical pub menu and pub food produced very well . I'd recommend here .

My work colleagues and I were at the Morris Hotel for a meal to celebrate 2 of my colleagues 30years employment and we had a lovely meal. The portions were big and everything was very tasty.

We have eaten here many times and always find the staff very pleasant and helpful. The food is great and good portions. Would recommend with no hesitation, and hope to return again soon.

Visited for an end of meal with my partner. Portions were a decent size & food was average, staff were very friendly. We were somewhat put off by a screaming mis-behaved toddler next to us, but after what seemed like quite a wait, our food arrived & was fresh and well presented. Bill was also good value!

A few days back, me and 7 friends (very tight) visited Morris's hotel. Beverages were kept largely to a soft drink, a few went large. Our order wad slowly delayed, we think it was because one member of the group continually shouted "GERG" at the top of his voice. Starters came for the gents that ordered.battered mushrooms, potato wedges & broth soup were a delight, although the hot smoked salmon didn't go down well with one of the members. We were all left slightly confused as there were no sorbet for the intermediate course, once again- we were bewildered!!

Marag, the woman who serve the tables is completely lovely. We enjoyed a really nice lunch and the food was really tasty.

Off the beaten track this was our second visit and missed the turn off, better signage needed. Well worth the 30 mile drive, my chicken was superb , my wife had a baked potato it looked delish, stick toffee pudding was divine . Staff were on the ball quick service and very polite

A visit to the North East of Scotland is never complete without a visit to Morris's. Good home cooking with great service.

We stopped on our way home to have dinner here and it was lovely food - best we probably had while away on a 3 day break further afield. Nice waitress - no long wait - good honest fare - Turkey and trimmings - and chicken stuffed with skirlie/bacon all accompanied by a big selection of fresh veg - also the roast potatoes were lovely and crisp! The portions are very generous too!
