Morpeth Arms in City of London, Westminster

Great pints and nice staff, but some training is needed as my friend asked for a top up, and this was the result. I normally joke that you could get a shot in that for under-pours, but these are basically half pints. Stop being so cheap with the cask ale! It goes off fast anyway so you might as well pour a full Pint whilst you’re at it!

Lovely place, so nice to have a pub (and staff) who care about the history of the place they are in. I think I was 1 of about a dozen sets of tourist this lunchtime who asked about the old prison and the staff gleefully filled us all in. Food was delicious and service excellent too.

Despite previous positive experiences at Morpeth Arms, this latest was a disaster. Inedible food, it first arrived cold, then the steak was as hard as piece of wood, poor sides, unimpressed by the service (some waitress were ok, others sluggish), the place is decadent, it would benefit from a generous lick of paint. Never again.

Food was great, as was service. The photos of the spies were fun to see, given the view of the MI6 building across the river.

Ploughman's sharing board was very tasty but very little especially at £29 my only gripe. The resof rhe food wast perfect. Amazing friendly front of house staff great attentive service. Would highly recommend.

A fine place with a good choice of beer. Service a bit slower and less friendly than expected, but I have to admit they were very busy that night. I had a good steak and ale pie and a scotch egg, my friend had fish'n'chips and was also satisfied.

Good service and atmosphere. Food was very average. I had the roast beef for Sunday lunch. The meat was waaay too chewy and the onion rings was drenched in oil.

Came here after visiting the Tate Britain 30 years ago on our honeymoon, took the kids here 20 years later as well. Today’s post-Tate visit was with my amazing 91-year-old father in law (who walked there with us from our Westminster hotel). Cask ales were great and the food was gastro-pub good.

Nice bar, good service and lovely food

Disappointing experience. I was hoping for the January Menu deal that I spotted online but was told that it was not available as the chef did not have the necessary ingredients. One of the bar staff was being so unhelpful and miserable that it put my back up. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her ham and eggs but my bavette steak was tough. All in all cannot recommend.

I had a joint birthday party in the spying room upstairs and it was perfect - a lovely space, the service was excellent and we all had a great time.

We booked dinner in the pub after a tour of parliament, just a short walk . The food was great we had a main with 3 starters it was delicious. Great atmosphere in here , there was young lady who was exceptionally good and very nice. We didn’t get her name tall girl . Would definitely recommend

This pub was a delightful discovery! We were looking for a nice spot for a pint and a bite after an exhausting visit to the Tate Britain, and it's so close. They had a great selection of beers and ales, and a great menu. My friends had pork & fennel sausage with crushed new potatoes, which they raved about. I had the pork belly Sunday roast, which was amazing! Everything from the meat to the veg to the Yorkshire pudding were perfectly prepared. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. We sat upstairs at a table with a window view of the Thames and the MI6 building. While there, we learned a little about its interesting history. We look forward to going back soon!

Classic British pub, enjoyed dinner on a sleepy Monday evening with the family. Will definitely come back!

We booked a table for 9 and when we arrived it was only for 6. There was a lot of back and forth with the staff who were slightly reluctant to help us find a solution. Atmosphere great, attractive pub, can't rate the food as we didn't eat.

Terrible service. Overcharged, when we questioned the overcharge the bar person became rude and stroppy.

The Morpeth arms was an amazing experience on the Thursday night that I went. I've gone twice, had several rounds in the pub, and enjoyed a bowl of chips with gravy. If I'm in the area, my wife and I will be in again.

We went for Sunday lunch .the pork was overcooked and the vegetables quite cold and sloppy on plate . small portions. Nobody came to ask if our meal was ok or offer us apple sauce. We won’t be going back or recommend it .

Whenever in London we come for Sunday lunch and everyone we bring loves this pub. Excellent value, great atmosphere and even though it was super busy as a big table of 20 near us the service could not be faulted. Thank you Morpeth Arms (from your sometimes neighbours opposite)

I was there with my son and we wanted to avoid the tourist rush of Soho and therefore chose this place which was on the road. The guy who took the order was a bit new to the pub so in the rush he missed registering my son's food so we were a bit confused when it only came in with mine. They apologized and managed to get his food out in 10 minutes. We didn't have to pay for it and they apologized once again. You remember a pub like this and would like to visit again because it was just the right level of noise even though there were a lot of people and also nice staff.

The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was lovely in the upstairs room! I suggest this place, especially if you have a dairy allergy because they pay attention to it.

Lovely walk in traditional pub. Great food, the scotch egg was a perfect starter. Service was prompt and ambience buzzy and relaxed. All three mains were delicious including veggie burger.

A great, cool pub in Pimlico, with a great view of MI6. Lots of boardgames to play upstairs, which we used! Chip butty and sausage roll were our food choices, with a couple of beers. Would revisit!

A very nice pub, excellent service and lovely atmosphere

Came here for a roast with some friends and it was probably one of the most disappointing ones, I've had. The meat was overdone (all of ours) the veg were bland, the gravy watery, the Yorkshire pudding burnt and the cauliflower cheese just not nice in taste or texture. The glasses were dirty and the service slow. The food also didn't come at the same time probably due to them being understaffed. There was already no pork by 3:30pm. Very disappointing and definitely not worth coming for.

Read about this pub and the history with the old nearby prison, where convicts would be transported to Australia. And the old spies that would drink there. The staff are very friendly and have a lot of knowledge about history. Food was what we expected for pub grub, beer was excellent.

One of my favourite pubs in London. A great spot by the river, charming outside space, perfect room, great beer and food. It ticks all the boxes you want from a pub and the manager seems really friendly. Recommended! Update: went back at the weekend and it was phenomenal. Thoroughly enjoyed. Great little find by the river! What a location and the staff are fantastic. The history in the cellars is awesome and it's very worth a check out if you're into old London stories! Had a quick chat with the landlord and he knew so much about the pub and surrounding area. A definite must!

A great pub close to the river in a quiet residential area of Pimlico. Seating inside and outside and a private area to reserve upstairs. Good selection of drinks on tap and also food available. Great service. Usually busy in the evening with office crowd and so table booking is recommended if you want a seat. Very limited places to stand inside for groups more than three.

Nice staff but clearly understaffed. If you order a side, you shouldn’t have to wait 40 minutes for it. Changing it to a bit higher as the response was sound of them. The staff really are lovely.

A very welcoming place - beautiful inside and out! We both ordered the chestnut mushroom Wellington on their Sunday Roast menu and licked our plates clean! So delicious and earthy. I had a great lunch today at the Morpeth Arms with a group for a business lunch. The Manager was incredibly accommodating and ensured our visit went absolutely smoothly. The food was great and quickly served and the history of the pub was fascinating! Thank you for all your help.

Visited this afternoon for a drink and to soak up the history of this unique pub. Great service and terrific interaction with the staff. As visiting Australians we must thank Ant for the fascinating and informative quick tour of the tunnels underneath and some appropriate stories. This place is great and well worth a visit!

Definitely worth a visit! Thank you to Ant for taking the time to share some of the historical significance of the hotel and for taking us down to the cellars. This was greatly appreciated by us Aussies, being able to trace some of our convict past. A true gem on our London tour!

Went here for a family Sunday lunch. The staff couldn't have been nicer and Lucy even showed us the underground cells where prisoners were held before being sent to Australia (see picture). We had the roast beef which was a generous portion with all the trimmings ( including great roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding). The beer is Youngs with at least two guest ales and there was a nice selection of red wine too. It is worth wandering around the pub including the upstairs 'Spy Room' with pictures of infamous members of that profession and from where you can spy on the MI6 building across the river. Very convenient for Millbank, the Tate Gallery and parliament in this delightful part of London.

Unassuming pub in Millbank, very quiet and far from maddening crowds. It's Young's so good choice of drinks; didn't eat. Apparently, if you ask they can show you the prison cells underneath but didn't dare.

A great pub where we came to watch the Euros final, which England sadly lost. The experience though was great, with plenty of variety in terms of drinks and friendly staff.

I went to the pub's Bingo night. So much fun! The hosts were very entertaining as their characters. A good selection of prizes, with all proceeds going to charity. Looking forward to the next bingo night. 😀
