The morning star is a little old pub that we came back to a few times. Staff are friendly and wear traditional bar uniforms. There were a few old men and families in. The only downside was the ladies toilets stank of drains!

Disappointed with my steak, waiters refused to split bill (despite us asking to order separately) and added 10% service charge to bill which we had to pay for before food had even arrived. Disappointed rather than upset by our trip.

I was a little concerned when I walked in. It's a very local pub, and we were really out of place... like what you see in movies when a stranger walks into a bar in an old western 🤣 but 5* all round. What an amazing experience, the food was exceptional and the atmosphere was good. Highly recommend

A classic Scottish pub. Very friendly, helpful, and competent staff. We were served very quickly as a group. The prices are reasonable. The Guinness is very good. The decor is typical of a pub. There are also outdoor seating options. I would happily drink my beer there again anytime. I definitely recommend it.

We had booked a table for 45 for a celebration with a weeks notice. I was unsure how they would cope as they didn’t request food orders prior to our arrival which most places serving large groups do. My worries were unfounded. They coped magnificently. The food was delicious and hot and the staff were so pleasant and helpful. The seating arrangements worked really well and the craic was 90. I've been on thos site for 13 years and out of numerous reviews I very seldom give one or two stars, but bloody hell this places food is dire. My husband brought me today for birthday lunch and what a disappointment. The positive first. Beautifully decorated traditional pub restaurant. The waiter/barman was very helpful and polite. We wanted to give him a decent tip as he was lovely and he hadn't cooked the horrible food but cheekily there was service charge added on the bill. My husband had a smash burger which he said was OK....I had a steak sandwich which sounded lovely reading details on the menu. In reality it was cold fatty meat between dry ciabetta, there were a couple of pieces of tobacco onion on the plate which were also cold. The chips were OK, similar to what you get in Brewers fayre, which I wouldn't have minded had I been able to eat the steak. Not wanting to waste it, I out the contents in a napkin to take home for the dog, which he seemed to enjoy, however 60 pounds stung a bit for something not edible, when I did try to bite into it the steak was stringy and hard, and tasteless. The waiter asked if everything was OK and my husband said his was OK but I was very disappointed, and he took the plates away no doubt to tell the chef. The bill charged us fully and added service charge, maybe the chef thought I'd eaten the steak, nope my dog Ozzie did. Very disappointed and won't be back.

Yes for us it was at the top end of out budget as we had steak... but as I told the server (Eoin) please thank the chef for the best ever steak I've ever had. We came back again two days later and tried their buffet (£8.99) the quality was just the same and you had a lot of choice and could have as much as you wanted on your plate... the beef was so tender and just fell apart in your mouth. As for Eoin, he was so helpful and patient. And couldn't do enough to help us enjoy our time there. I hope he gets a pat on the back from the management as he made our day. Worst Dinner in Belfast Had dinner here on a Saturday night - we were a group of 6 so had booked online beforehand . We arrived just before our 730pm reservation and were shown to the large dining room with 2 occupied tables and were put in a squeezed back corner booth next to the occupied tables even though the restaurant was empty, there was a general lack of interest and professionalism from the staff from when we sat down, no explaination of menus, no welcome, menus just handed out, and this continued when we ordered wine and the bottle was just left on the table, no offer to taste - just pour it yourself! We were hoping the food would be better, but it was just average meat and overpriced for what it was Fustrated, we decided to leave and spent 10 minutes trying to get attention from teh disinterested staff Save your money and go somewhere else when in Belfast

The worst fish and chips I've had the displeasure of eating. It was clearly overcooked and tasted disgusting. It looked like a burnt croissant that had been plopped on top of the last few chips that had been scraped out of the engine oil they cooked it in. It was difficult to eat the "fish" when it's balanced on top of the chips while half the plate is covered with a streak of tartar sauce. I can't believe they had the gall to serve this. This excellent bar&restaurant offers a very good food and drinks range and it was just one of the many place's we visited on our 3 day trip to Belfast.Dating from 1810 making it one of Belfasts oldest bar&restaurants'it is well worth a visit if your in this really lively area of Belfast. Housed in a superb building with excellent external features'the interior is superb with many interesting fixtures and features and superb seating areas throughout it's whole interior and was a joy to visit. We visited many pub/bars and restaurants on our trip to Belfast and this place was as good as any we went to.We visited early on in the evening and it was as busy as it get's but it didn't take long to get served. When we visited here we had a few glasses of Carlsberg brewery lagers'a lager I don't normally have but they were refreshing but to honest were expensive. Its a couple of years since I've been in The Morning Star. Its changed but not for the better! The welcome was dry and not welcoming and while it might work with some I found it out of place! A take it or leave it attitude! I had told the others in my party that it was a great place but honestly I felt let down and in turn I'd let them down!!! The service was not good as at the start there was a barman attempting to cover the bar, orders, service and greeting, this was unfair I felt on the person, but it reflected outward on not only us but others too! The sharing starter was good and the portions were good. My ribeye steak "burger/sandwich was tasty but cold! My wife said the pie was just ok, the chicken burger was big for sure but perhaps a bit dry. Look it fed us, but honestly it wasn't the Morning Star I remember and enjoyed! Its now stuck trying to to be something it isn't anymore. Dickybows don't suit the place especially when the cutlery could be found in a greasy spoon diner!!! In my opinion, it would be better to remember your roots and get back there! Its a shame to be writing this about what was a memorable place to meet and eat!!

Helpful staff in this Belfast institution. DJ was playing great tunes from the 60s and 70s but kept introducing each track which was very old fashioned. The place attracts a certain crowd of pissed up auld dolls later in the evening so we moved on.

Attempted to eat there on Sunday 18/5. Asked nicely if any tables were available only to be met with disdain and scolded in front of seated customers, by a server with unnaturally white teeth. He ordered us to wait by the bar and then left us there despite available seating around.   Appalling way to treat customers so we left.
