Meet with great friends regularly here. A great venue and the guinness is fantastic.

Good atmosphere and not too busy on Paddy's day, late afternoon. Live music was good.

You’ll need a reservation for dinner here. That’s not listed on their website and would have been nice to know before we went in. But it looks like a really nice place. Food smelled good too.

The only time I've seen a grey lamb shank. The food was warm but definitely not hot. It's a pity the food really let the place down as the staff were great.

We had our Christmas Night out which had to be rearranged from December due to Storm Dara. Food was amazing and the staff very pleasant and helpful. Great place also for watching big Sporting Occasions

Went for lunch, has steak and Guinness pie with mashed potatoes. Excellent food and excellent service

Lovely little pub to visit in the town with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Reasonable and average prices and plenty of seating inside and outside. Nice place to come with friends.

Food ok service ok was a bit disappointed.. 3 had ordered burgers, with sauce on side, sauce didn't arrive until we asked for it again and arrived when burgers were nearly ate

Very busy pub had our first Guinness.

McHughs Bar era un gran bar en el que mi hermano gemelo y yo vinimos en nuestras recientes vacaciones a Belfast y lo que un gran hallazgo. Un bar de gran aspecto, que data de 1711 , interior es tradicional, un bar de servicio adornado domina la sala principal, decoración pubby y mobiliario, hermosas características originales salpicadas en todo este bar y un montón de opciones de asientos repartidos por todo el interior y el exterior con vistas a la concurrida y bulliciosa plaza de Queens. Estábamos aquí en una tarde de enero amargamente fría, pedimos cervezas de la cervecería Carlsberg, estas se sirvieron en excelentes condiciones siendo heladas frías y espumosas y simplemente nos relajamos y disfrutamos del gran bar en el que estábamos mientras bebíamos nuestras cervezas. Una gran fan de esta cerveza danesa más famosa, es una cerveza estilo lager dorada llena de gusto y muy fácil de beber, especialmente cuando se sirve helada fría como en este bar, no es sorprendente que este bar es tan popular entre las cervezas servidas en este buen estado por el personal que está genuinamente contento de verle en su bar. Realmente disfrutamos de nuestras cervezas aquí antes de seguir adelante y aunque nuestra visita fue solo fugaz para una primera visita a McHughs Bar & Restaurant nos lo pasamos muy bien. El McHughs Bar & Restaurant es fácil de encontrar en Queens Square. El horario de apertura es; Lunes a domingo, mediodía hasta la 1 am. Vale la pena comprobar si estás en la zona o planeando unas vacaciones en Belfast.

Nice pub with nice atmosphere...... However, I went there for a beer and couldn't be more disappointed. Fully in the pocket of the big British multinational, Diagio. Only Diagio beer on sale, NO choice whatsoever, not one local Belfast beer, or indeed any craft beer on sale. such a shame😭

McHughs is a superb bar&restaurant thats located in Queen's Square and is without a doubt one of the oldest pubs in Belfast.This very good pub is housed in Belfast's oldest building and looks stunning. It's got many original fixture's and feature's from its original oak beams and there's lots of other interesting features throughout its interior far to many to mention on a review of this size. We were on a three day trip to Belfast and me and my twin brother visited some great pubs/bars and restaurants and this was as good as all the others we visited.We visited here early in the afternoon when this place wasn't that busy. As we'd just had a meal we had a few pint's of Carlsberg brewery lagers that were first rate and reasonably priced. This is a superb pub&restaurant that's in a superb area of Belfast and it's a place that is well worth a visit.(This is my first review of McHughs Bar&Restaurant). Opening Hours. Monday-Saturday-12.00-01.00. Sunday-13.00-01.00. Public Transport. Bus Stop. Queens Square Bus Stop-Numerous Buses Far To Many To Mention.

Best bar in Belfast and iv lived here all my life staff r amazing food also amazing and central. The trad music fabulous too. 100% a place 2 go. For locals as well as tourists

Fui a comer algo en Nochevieja. Empezamos con el Pan de Ajo y yo tenía la Pila de Pollo, mientras que mi compañero fue por el Pollo de Chile Salado - no eran aptos para el postre! La comida era preciosa, y bastante rápido para sacar, así como las bebidas. No es caro tampoco para ir - todo tiene un precio bastante bueno para su ubicación. (*Nota: el Pollo en la pila tiene una capa adicional, no estoy seguro si era barbacoa u otra cosa, pero no te darías cuenta hasta que lo tuvieras en la boca, así que tal vez consulte con el personal de antemano en caso de que sea algo que no te guste) El personal es muy amable y atento, revisando constantemente cómo te va con la comida y si quieres otras bebidas. El restaurante se encuentra arriba, mientras que el bar de abajo es bastante acogedor. (Un montón de pequeños rincones para sentarse y la gente mira jaja)

Awesome and wonderful interior. Too few waiters for restraint floor. Food is good, but not gorgeous. There are no Murthy’s stout, only Guinness

Went in for a couple of drinks What a lovely bar with lots of wall painting and amazing history incgraved. Most importantly, people they were incredible, " HATS OFF TO ALL THE BAR MEMBERS " I personally liked their bushmills whiskies collection. Also tried kelkenny irish lager got good. A must bar to try when in belfast. Luckily, I was staying right next to the bar.

Was looking for a good Sunday lunch in Belfast and saw a review for McHughs and thought we would try it. We didn’t have a booking and they managed to fit us in. The Sunday beef roast was fantastic alongside the Guinness. Highly recommended and will visit again when back in the city

Un montón de asientos al aire libre y mesas hacen de este un gran lugar para relajarse bajo el sol viendo pasar el mundo. El personal en el interior es amable y la decoración de madera es impresionante. Los precios son decentes también, así que sin duda volveré la próxima vez que pase!

Loads of outdoor seating and tables make this a great spot to relax in the sun watching the world go by. The staff inside are friendly and the wooden decor is impressive. Prices are decent too so I’ll certainly be returning next time I’m passing!

Overpriced bowl of stew with doughy whereas bread. Good pub but avoid the food.

A pub very close to the clubs and other pubs, but we had great time at McHughs, always great live music and friendly relaxed atmosphere. Everybody should go there.

My husband and I had dinner here while in Belfast. I had the sirloin steak which came with a mushroom sauce which had a bit too much pepper in it. With the steak, I had chips. The steak and chips were enjoyable. My husband had the Irish stew which he enjoyed. For dessert, I had an Irish coffee and sticky toffee while my husband had the crumble. The restaurant is an old, drafty building with Christmas decorations. The waiter, Caolan, was nice and did a good job.

Very warm atmosphere even when quiet in this pub which claims to be the oldest around. Lovely decor & good pint of Guinness. Love the large imitation candles in the window upstairs where the restaurant is. Would love to have tried the food but time evaded us.

The bar staff are terrible and just don't care. I come to Belfast very often but only and rarely would come here again. Get your act together. £5.80 a pint and the service is crap. Don't waste your money as there's many better and cheaper options just mins walk away.

Amazing Irish Stew!! Good price of the mains !! Service was very good and amazing atmosphere, only the dessert is VERY small, I was expecting bigger for the PRICE.

Came here for food and drinks before flying home... Had the beef boxty... absolutely spot on👍 Service was swift and with a smile, very cosy atmosphere and from what I read, a pub with alot of history behind it! Would certainly recommend a visit here for food and drinks. The traditional Irish band were machines, only took a few breaks over the couple of hours we were there - great way to finish our weekend away😋

Took my team here for some food and drinks after team day out. All the food was fantastic, clean plates all round. Service was equally fantastic from Conor who gave us a great insight into the history of the building. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!

Me and wife called in for lunch today to say food was dismall to say the least got chicken wings and salted chilli chicken for starter was ok but bit tastles then came what all I can say is change the chef I got chicken pie with came in a bowl looked like cream ov chicken and leak soup with a bit of pastry the size ov a tea cup sitting on top all you could taste was the leeks spuds tasted like Powder veg was the only savoury.wife got fish and chips swimming in grease couldn't eat the chips as the grease had soucked them didn't get peas just couple peppers and bit ov lettuce seems some place in town have forgotten how to make pub grub sorry but won't be back

While visiting Belfast we stopped by McHughs for some lunch where they were able to accommodate us without a booking. After being seated in this beautiful 300+ year old pub & restaurant we ordered some food, one Boxty and one Chicken pie. The service was speedy and we received our order within 15-20 minutes. The food was gorgeous. This was our first taste of some hearty Irish food and we weren't disappointed. The food was presented and seasoned beautifully and the portions were filling. If I could id give a 6 star rating. I highly recommend a visit!

Seis amigos llegaron a almorzar a McHughs en nuestro día anual en Belfast juntos y se les mostró a la zona de restaurantes de arriba. Todo muy bonito , ladrillo visto que muestra su pasado histórico , bonitas vistas etc. Todos pedimos el guiso irlandés y algunas cervezas - una apuesta segura se podría decir! El camarero era amable y servicial. Sin embargo, el guiso era terrible - muy pocas patatas no mucha carne y lo que había , era nadar en salsa de sabor triste y extraño. Éramos un grupo local de Ards rurales que conocemos su Guiso Irlandés , pero todo el mundo estaba decepcionado por lo que se presentó. Después de señalar este tema tuvimos que pedir ver al gerente. Llegó y después de mirar lo que quedaba en los platos dijo que hablaría con alguien y desapareció. Fue la última vez que la vimos. No “lo siento por eso y espero que vuelvas otra vez” - nada , ella simplemente escondió. Terminamos nuestras cervezas, pedimos la cuenta, de la que se habían quitado los guisos y pagado las cervezas. Nos sorprendió que el gerente no regresara y hubo una sensación abrumadora de una oportunidad perdida por el gerente para hacer lo mejor de una mala situación. Empeoró una comida decepcionante al ignorarnos a nosotros y al problema. No se trataba de descuentos ni nada, se trataba de que alguien estuviera de acuerdo en que el guiso era pobre y se disculpara. McHugh’s - ¡reúnete por el bien de los turistas reales!

Another great pub in Belfast! Had lovely food and drinks service here very good and would recommend - the interior dining floor is great with exposed brickwork and beams and very high ceiling.

Cracking bar. Quality barman with fantastic service i.e. Guinness delivered to the table and it was in great fettle. £5.80 for a pint too which isn't unreasonable. I'd come here again for sure.

Great little place, this. The food is magnificent! There was a buffet thing for the most reasonable price I've encountered for a long while, and the bloke dishing it up is a class act!!!

Brilliant wee pub. Good beer, good atmosphere, good service. We were in on a Sunday and found it busy with a great feel about it. Popped in for 1 and stayed 2+ hours. Live traditional music in the corner helped. Defo return

Pub crawl starting point. Was not disappointed with the atmosphere. The staff were great, but alas only stayed for 1 and then onto the next!

Meal was not nice and ended up with food poisoning. Flies all over food and in toilets

We dropped in for a drink and ended up having a fantastic evening. The staff were extremely friendly and stopped to talk to us often. I had the best Irish Coffee in the world and left with a hand written copy of the recipe. One of the regular customers was so easy to talk to and made us laugh all evening. Sean, the manager was just wonderful. This was truly one of our favorite memories of Ireland!

Great choice to try traditional Irish food. Service was also great, can't remember the name of the guy who looked after us (dark beard and blue eyes). Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Belfast 🍀

Common meal with mashed potatoes like every day

Oldest building in Belfast plus good food made this meal memorable and delicious! It was our first stop in Belfast. Near many great sights and an easy walk from our hotel. We enjoyed the Irish stew, a (local) gin and tonic, and alcohol-free Guinness. This is a place we would choose again and again.

Classic Irish pub, the food is just as good as the service. We went for lunch as it was scheduled on the tour, it is located in a good place near the Big Fish and the clock tower.

I visited this establishment with my wife & 2 other family members for a couple of drinks & a bite to eat. The interior is as you would expect from a building that dates back to 1711, although there are more modern parts that are additions to the original. I can heartily recommend the Brisket Boxty & the Reuben sandwich both of which were enjoyed immensely by members of our party.

Nice old fashioned styled pub, food was tasty, decent portions was like £23 odd for a pint and fish and chips, think the price was slightly high but work it for quality and quantity. Pints in here are £5 odd. The service however makes this place shine, the waiter was attentive, polite and nothing too much for him.

Our favourite bar in Belfast, this was our 10th visit to NI and we've spent every evening in here, very cosy and friendly, Hannah behind the bar was very welcoming, treated us very well! Hope to continue coming here!

Not at all professional, the food was something terrifying, everything was terrible, the only thing that could be saved was the dessert, which was industrial. I do not recommend it nor will I ever return.

I have to give this place a high rating. The staff is great here. I am currently sitting at the bar and having drinks. The bartenders are very friendly and great to talk to. The atmosphere is excellent and is a true depiction of an Irish pub. Only down side is that they do not have take out food. This is my only problem, but the atmosphere is grea. I will miss this place when I head back to New York City. Prost!

We went tonight for the trad session and the music and atmosphere was very welcoming. I ordered the Brisket boxty and it was very different from the last one I had here. Tonight it was more like a roast beef Sunday. dinner. It was lovely as a dinner but not when you're expecting something different. Still a great place for food and music

Great atmosphere and a mix of ages

Lovely pub near the waterfront. Staff were super friendly. Drinks cold and food excellent. We went for the Boxty meals. A large fat potato cake topped with beef or chicken, sauce/gravy and fab tasty greens. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommend.

What a bar. I cannot rate it highly enough. The food, the staff, the atmosphere, the Guinness! Fantastic. We visited every evening of our 3 day trip and then had a meal there as well.

Very friendly and welcoming staff . Comfortable surroundings , plenty of choice on the menu even though several options were unavailable due to a large party earlier . Food was very tasty and portions good . Service was a tad haphazard but overall an enjoyable experience .

Enjoyed a nice pint of Guinness sat outside taking in all the scenery. The weather was nice which made a difference. Nice to see some locals playing some music inside. Good prices to.

The food was limited in range but was very good. The staff were lovely. Other pubs were super touristy but McHughes offered a much better blend of service and atmosphere. Make sure to look up at the light.

Quiet environment and very friendly staff despite language problems

This bar and restaurant is perfect for family’s and couples had a couple of drinks in there when I was in Belfast. I would recommend going in there and enjoy a drink . The staff are very friendly and very talkative telling you about the history of the place,

Superb service and food. They serve belfast black which in my opinion is 10x better than guiness. The food was top notch. Steve and finula were excellent hosts. Found my new favourite place in Belfast. Edit 2024: sadly no longer serve belfast black but still a solid pint of Guinness

Incredible atmosphere, live music downstairs, which remains as ambient music upstairs, the restaurant. Great food, the best in Ireland, and unbeatable service, and very friendly waiters. Out of 10.

Only had one drink here before getting back to the train station to go home.Mysic too loud to be able to talk to our friends easily without shouting.

Stumbled across this on a rainy day and with no plan other than to wander to the Titanic museum. Staff really welcoming and we only order starters / sides. They were superb and more than we had expected. Food delicious. All really great other than toilets are grim!

Went in early Thursday evening. Good selection of beers & outstanding choice of Whiskeys (all priced on the bottle). Music provided by two young lads (playing banjo & guitar). Fine voice too.

We took advantage of a cruise stopover to have lunch in this pub which had good reviews and we really appreciated the copious and tasty dishes as well as the kindness of the waitresses. Quite a long wait to get the dishes but it was probably to serve our large table of 8 people at the same time. The prices are very reasonable and correspond well to the quality of the dishes.

I ordered boxty with sliced rump steak, onion rings and peppers. There was onion rings and boxty in what was served, and there was some kind of very small meat pieces in a sort of a slop, but it was not sliced rump steak by *any* stretch of the imagination. It was OK and strangely very familiar but tasted completely wrong and out of context with the Boxty and onion rings. My friend and I were in a hurry and I didn't want to make a fuss, but later that evening I realised exactly where I knew the taste, smell and texture from - M&S tinned beef curry. It even repeated on me the same way so that I didn't have to trust my memory of the meal. I know it is hard to believe, however, I have had this curry, with rice, many many times. I used to keep it as a trusty standby in the cupboard for when I had run out of fresh ingredients. I guess chef had the same idea. I'm disappointed they didn't just say they were out of that rump steak instead. It was doubly disappointing because I have eaten there before and found it really good quality, lovely food.

The place was dirty we should have left when we got there No menus apparently they were in short supply Ordered lamb cutlets but the waiter did not mention that there was a 30 min wait When I asked to have them medium well done the waiter said that they would be cooked whatever way the chef comms them ! When they did arrive they were not lamb cutlets but a gigot chop a completely different cut of lamb When I pointed this out to the waiter he was disinterested and told me that’s what the chef calls a gigot chop Will never be back most disappointing meal in a long time Your money is better spent elsewhere until this place cleans up its act

Downstairs was filthy. Thankfully we were put sitting upstairs. However then we were told there were no free menus as they were busy. When we eventually got menus and ordered lamb cutlets, we asked for them mediums to well done and were told we couldn't specify how we wanted them cooked! We had to eat them whatever way they were cooked. After 50 minutes still no food. We asked waiter if he could check if our food was ready, he wasnt pleased to be asked. What came out was not lamb cutlets it was a gigot chop. Childs burger was totally dry. Would not recommend.

The food was delicious and really pleased we didn’t order a starter as the portions were large. I had the boxty with chicken and my husband had the Reuben’s sandwich. Shame that in the room above us there was Irish Dancing practice going on, it meant that we couldn’t hear ourselves at times let alone hold a conversation. We therefore didn’t hang around after we finished our food.

Like others spotted this pub en route to the Titanic Museum and had lunch on the way back. Lovely building that claims to be the oldest in Belfast. Friendly enough and enjoyed a fish and chip lunch with a reasonably priced glass of wine. There were still quite a lot of people eating after 2pm which made for a nice atmosphere.
