Old school ice cream parlour and everyone says it's a must see in Broadstairs. The ice cream is excellent, so stick with that. The rest - cake, coffee, hot chocolate etc - though, is nothing special at all, hence only 4 out of 5 as plenty of other places in Broadstairs do much better. But as I said, this place is all about the ice cream, and it should certainly be worth a visit as a special treat for the kids after the beach

An authentic Italian ice cream parlour, straight out of the 1950's. This is a Broadstairs' institution and must not be missed. Authentic Italian ice cream, all made in house, and beautifully served. Also, excellent cappuccino and nice snacks.

Staff not very knowledgeable teenagers. We asked for ingredients of sorbet for allergy requirements and the staff would not go and check for us. They gave us a two scoop ice cream which any good cone should manage. By the time we had walked 50m to a bench the cone had snapped. This was not on a warm day, it was the end of October.

Don’t let the queue put you off! It’s well worth the wait and it gives you ample time to choose from the wide range of treats on offer from cones to decadent ice cream sundays. We didn’t sit in during our visit as it was very busy, but with the location of the seafront being on the doorstep it was lovely just sitting on the boardwalk. If you would prefer to sit in dogs are welcome and I would highly recommend if you’d like to soak in the colourful fifties aesthetic.

With its pink and mirrors art-deco interior and location right opposite the beach this rather large gelato certainly ticks all the right boxes in terms of seaside grandeur. Happily it also delivers on the ice-cream front as well. Alright, you won’t find anything unusual on the menu like you might at some supposed trendy places but the quality of the ice cream here is solid and there are enough guilty pleasure elaborate concoctions here to keep you coming back time and time again. I must admit that I watched with some scepticism the old lady who took my order for a ‘Margate Special’ as she somewhat nonchalantly put this ice cream together as though she could do it in her sleep but lo and behold the end result oozed decades worth of experienced precision as the flavours all sat together perfectly. From my previous visits (I first visited in 1985) I think I can safely say that whatever you choose here, you won’t go wrong. If ordering a coffee then the espresso isn’t too strong so a double espresso with one of the more voluminous ice-cream creations will complement nicely. In terms of negatives the staff seem pretty disinterested and most of the ice cream concoctions listed on the menu do not have accompanying pictures so you’re never quite sure what you’ve ordered until it turns up. These are minor quibbles though – you don’t visit a gelato on the strength of its customer service do you?I couldn’t imagine any trip to Broadstairs being complete without a trip to Morelli’s.

Chicken mayo sandwich and prawn lettuce may sandwich, apple pie large latte, thick banana milkshake and a water. All done waiter came said sorry only panini there are no sandwiches today, waste of time that was the waitress didnt say there wasn't any, so had to redo the order and wait for our waitress to come over when she did I said are there no sandwiches today as he just said there wasn't any. Her reply was oh sorry I didnt know. So we just had a drink and the apple pie which was good except it had sultanas in making it a Dutch apple pie. I hate sultanas. We had high hopes for Morlelli’s and were more than happy to queue for a table. However, when it came to ordering, the staff really had no idea of what was on the menu! I kept being told that they didn’t do certain flavours or toppings, despite them being on the menu. When my order arrived, it was wrong. My husband’s ice cream sundae arrived covered in nuts, which were not listed in the menu description, my son has a severe nut allergy so this wasn’t good at all. They did change the sundae, but it was quite a mistake. The interior is retro, but also looking distinctly tired. Overall, it’s also pretty pricy so we’ll try somewhere else next time.

This is the locals go-to place with a superb range of gelati; daily queues are testament to its enduring popularity. The staff work incredibly hard and are especially courteous to their older local customers. The team take great care of hygiene and Covid security. So sorry to read so many unkind reviews. This establishment is now run on a thread by its owner who takes profits out to Monaco. The absent owner business model is at fault here not the staff. Locals occasionally clear outside tables during peak times as they know staff resources are too low to keep up. And yes, some visitors slop their food and drinks without thought, and expect others to clear up after them! I hate to have to echo the reviews below but my trip to Morellis was a bit lacklustre. Planned to end a walk from Margate to Broadstairs with an ice cream at Morellis as I'd heard of its vintage charm and great ice cream. On arrival there was a queue for seating which is totally understandable in a covid world and I didn't mind the wait. The thing was there were loads of available seats inside and no one came out to say anything about how long the wait might be. After about 20 minutes they started letting people in. Not one polite word passed the lips of anyone during my whole stay, after eventually having someone come to take my order they said without any sort of apologetic tone that most of the ice creams were finished. I opted for a Knickerbocker Glory as it was one they had the ice cream for-it was very yummy but a bit ruined by the lack of charm/atmosphere .

Queued up 15 minutes to get in then equally as long to get served. The lady on the door must have been on holiday when Morelli's had their Customer Care course. Brusque would be putting it kindly. Woefully inadequate staffing levels, they lost far more money by people giving up and walking away than they would do employing more staff. The young lady who eventually brought our coffees was the antithesis of the bouncer on the door, friendly and polite although obviously stressed by her ridiculous workload. Coffee was surprisingly o.k. and I was told I could have a refill for £1. I declined as life is just too short to try and get served again. Get more (pleasant) staff.

Just been to Morellis, spent 30 minutes on queue to get in, and plenty of tables available, just full of empty glasses and waiting for being cleaned. The lady doing the seating incapable of organising the seating and clearing the tables. Also not wearing a mask appropriately, hence breaching COVID guidelines. Went for take away in the end; and the chap serving take away was incredibly rude. Ice cream ok, but not worth the wait nor the rudeness. I just wander how bad the experience will be in a busy sunny day. This is a clear example why chains rule the English cities, experience brought me to my childhood of holidays in England when going into an independent shop was playing Russian roulette with service and quality, as if the business was doing the customer a favour by serving then.

This ice cream parlour is popular. On a rainy Saturday in late October there was still a 10 minute wait to get in. The disposable paper menu is used to collect your personal details (if you haven’t got the nhs app), and indicate your order, so the waiting staff are with you for the least amount of time. Payment is taken on a wavepay machine before you get your food. We had waffles, which were much larger portion sizes than expected. One between two would have been fine. Very tasty. Pleasant staff. Not 5 stars because there seemed to be no reason for not getting folks in to fill the unoccupied tables, therefore a lot of unnecessary waiting. And if there really was a reason, menus could have been handed out to folks in the queue which would have speeded up the ordering process.

The (slightly) crazy thing about Morelli’s is that from it’s simple Broadstairs roots it’s become a world wide phenomenon, just have a search on Instagram to find stores in places like Dubai. Why?, because the ice creams, sorbets and gelato are amazing. Make sure you ask about the specials or this months Zodiac flavour. And if you don’t like ice cream there are some great cakes on offer. Dog friendly, take away options and a great vintage feel, which isn’t faked, it’s the original decor, this place is an institution.

Covid barrier was no issue however staff seemed put out by my request for a high hair.Tables are very small, decor 50’s style - lovely. Unfortunately this parlour has the looks, not the substance. Menu items are shockingly expensive - for a decent sundae, the average price is £14 each. No waffles which was disappointing on a Saturday afternoon. Had 2 basic fudge Sundaes (vanilla ice cream with a pot of fudge sauce) and a banana split - total price just short of £25. Service was very quick and you are billed immediately - something to bare in mind. Ice creams arrived, very under whelmed. 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream in a small glass with a wafer and flake. My husband didn’t enjoy his, cream with vanilla ice cream doesn’t work I agree. No one checks in with you once your order is delivered, service is curt, seemed to be lots of exciting flavours but none evident on the menu. Once finished you get up and leave. No please thank you or anything like that. And leave via the exit door in the corner.

Whilst the ice cream is always amazing, the system of queueing and ordering needs to be reviewed. You cannot see which flavours are available until you are at the front of the line, and then you are asked immediately what you want - when half the flavours are not labelled this is quite difficult. We took our ice creams outside and sat in the gardens over the road, we were not disappointed in the product at all, it was delicious - although a tad pricey.

Handed us a menu and said choose what you want on the menu and someone will come over to take order. Guy came over with the most miserable face. He looked at our order and said they didnt have waffles. I said they should be crossed off menu. He just replied that the greeter was meant to tell us. My grandson chose something else, only to be told 'we don't have that'. Again he chose something else only to be told. 'We dont have that flavour'. He was very matter of fact. My impression was he couldn't care less. The items we ended up with were okay...nothing special. Just very overpriced ice cream. Nearly £45 for 4 bowls and a milkshake. The cost wouldn't be an issue if both the service and decor were of a high standard. I would say save your money. What an absolutely awful experience for my grandsons treat!!

This is a great retro ice cream parlour serving only traditional ice cream desserts which are also great. But I have to say the grumpy staff really spoil the place. Rude customer service. The welcome made us feel unwelcome and as a group of six they made us feel that we were a really inconvenient number to accommodate. Making eye contact but then deliberately looking away. No smiles at all from any of them apart from the young lad who eventually took our order. The impression we got was that custom was not a problem as people were queuing so they misinterpreted this into not having to give good customer service - there would always be a queue so no need to bother. Such a shame as apart from that is such a nice and unique place to go and the ice cream is to die for. Would have been top score but for the terrible service.

I was very impressed with the measures taken to keep Morelli’s Covid safe. Table spacing, queuing, hand santizer, etc. The place is a family favourite during our holiday and the food did not disappoint. I wish that they had more toilet facilities though - if I have to change the baby I always feel that I’m keeping everyone queuing for ages.

Not on a touristy thoroughfare. But big queues to eat-in or take-away. We did take-away. Efficient service. Not cheap. Not the biggest range. But the quality of the ice cream is fantastic. Maybe the best i have ever tasted - and I have tasted loads!!

1st time here, as expected on one of the hottest days of the year, we had to queue to get in (although this moved quite quickly). First impressions the whole place could do with a bit of a makeover. Staff friendly enough, ice cream was good. I would recommend visiting here.

This a first class place to enjoy an icecream. The choice is wide, and the quality is superb - really tasty. Whether you have a take away from the kiosk or go in and sit to be served, it really is superb. It is also reasonably, and the staff are friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend.

Whenever I visit family in Ramsgate we always walk from Ramsgate to Broadstairs just for this ice cream shop. Never ever disappointed with the ice cream, be it a single scoop or a waffle they always hit the mark.WE HAVE BEEN IN SINCE COVID AND I FEEL ITS VERY WELL ORGANISED AND RUN. The decor is perfect and makes you feel you're back in the 60's(?) And we love it. If the staff smiled a little more out would help but maybe the occasional frosty interaction helps keep the ice cream cold?!

I have been coming to Broadstairs for over 40 years and with family have visited ‘Morelli’s’ regularly. The iceam has always been a favourite but today is the very last time. £3.45 for a small 99 is just exorbitant. Plus £2.50 for one hour parking along the road outside made almost £10 for two ice creams. How can this be justified for a takeaway ice cream ?? I understand all of the arguments regarding overheads, staff wages etc but this is outrageous, sad but as previously said, never again.

We had a take away and the staff were friendly and efficient. The hygiene measures seemed good to me, hand sanitiser available, staff with face shields on. Most importantly the ice cream is delicious! A good range of flavours, all the ones we tried were delicious, lovely texture and not to sweet. And the waffle cones are lovely too!

Nice ice cream, but quite unfriendly and rude customer service from the server named Raluca. It would be helpful if the management could remind staff to smile and communicate pleasantly with customers rather than an unsmiling, abrupt and fed up manner that I experienced with Raluca. Also, I noticed staff were not wearing gloves and there was a wet cloth on the counter that was used to wipe down the metal ice cream scoops. Didn't look too hygenic, especially under the current circumstances with Covid19.

I never give bad reviews unless is extremely necessary but I feel I have to after my experience yesterday. I visited Broadstairs on Sunday 26/07/2020 and after looking for ice cream places I came across Morelli’s Gelato and I decided to give it a try. So arrived to the place and there was a long queue of people to get a take away ice cream. They had two doors and people had the option to eat in or take away. I decided I wanted a take away, so I just this long queue while my husband went to find parking space. All good at this point, but the time was passing a quite a few people give up and left but I decided to wait to try these famous ice creams. After 40 minutes queuing to get an ice cream and being the next person to be called and served, I decided to put my mask on to follow and adhere to the government guidelines. Also at this point my husband came and met me at the queue but then left because he did not want an ice cream. So just about to be called after 40 minutes that had to wait, I was now wearing my mask and making sure I was respecting social distance, which I have to say that a few people weren’t, but being part of the NHS and working on the “front line” all this time and seeing from the “inside” the hospital what is happening I do myself follow the guidelines quite strictly. Hence at this point of being my turn, I was approach by a male member of staff, who say very very rude and abrupt to me “ you have just walked in and got here, don’t you see there is a long queue….you have to join the queue” …which I tried to respond excuse me I was here for 40 minutes queuing but then he did not even gave me the chance to talk and turn his back to me and walked away! I couldn’t believe in what had just happened, how rude and abrupt he approach me and spoken at me. After this I said to the people behind me “ did you see what just happened here ?? and they were also shocked …and they said it must be because you put the mask and he did not recoginse. Well if that was the case, there are lots of different ways to talk to people and approach them. After this I continue queuing but then I looked inside the shop and he was talking the the other members of staff and pointing to me, in a way he was probably telling not to serve me. I was already very upset with this situation, so I wanted to clarify this as he did not let me explain it. So then I called him as he was inside the shop, so I raised I voice and said “ please can you come here I need to speak with you” …he came and I said I was here queuing for 40 minutes, so can you please just ask and confirm with this people behind me ? “Which he responded, saying if they are okay, that is fine and he turned his back and walked away. Once again he did not even let me speak and neither the people behind me. Don’t you think if there was the case that I had just walked in and not joined the queue, certainly the people behind me would have said something!?I was left very distressed and upset about this situation, to the point I was in tears, so I decided to walk way without getting an ice cream. Yes I was the next on the queue and waited 40 minutes but after being accused of lying twice, spoken at very rudely with no manners and being embarrassed in front of the public, both costumers and staff, I was left with no choice but just walking out. I did not want to buy or be served by anyone in this shop. Also in general no one deserves to be treated like this, regardless if you are a costumer or a member of staff. Having hospitality experience but currently working in a management position for the NHS, this is NOT the way you approach and talk to a costumer. After walking away in tears, a young girl that was with her family behind on the queue came over after me to ask if I was okay and to offer for her family to buy me an ice cream, how sweet and considerable was the kind gesture. I thank her and her family but I said I did not want an ice cream at that point. As you can imagine being left in such a state of distress the last thing I wanted was to eat, specially an ice cream from this place after the way I was treated! So all of this to rate my experience as the most awful experience I have ever had in hospitality, so hence my rating is only one star. However because I act always with good faith and not holding any grudges, I must say the ice creams looked very appealing. However I cannot comment if they are nice or not because I did not have the chance to try.Last but not least, to all of you working at this place and specially to this “GENTLEMAN” that has made my experience the worse ever, I must say everyone has good and bad days, everyone is experience big levels of stress/anxiety with the present situation, but THERE IS NO EXCUSE for your behaviour yesterday. As you can imagine being part of the NHS and working during all the peak of this situation Covid-19 which is new to everyone, I have to deal with a high volume of stress and problems on a daily basis and being in a management position is even more difficult and demanding, but I would never treat my staff, patients or anyone the way you have treated me yesterday! This to say that you definitely need to rethink about your customer service skills and well as you general people’s skills! I feel sorry for you that you are such a SAD and NEGATIVE PERSON with no MANNERS at all! From a hospitality point of view and being in a management position I would never hire a staff member like you! I hope this helps people to understand regardless of what your day is like, please treat people with respect and kindness….as you don’t know what that person is going through in their lives! The good thing about it is that I have a good head over my shoulders and even though this has affected me so much, I am now in a position to overlook at this situation and happy to know I’m such a good and kind person to everyone and also there are still good and kind people around as that young girl and her family mentioned above.I hope the best for the future of your business but I fear with this type of staff, I am afraid you won’t go very far. At the end of the day it is the staff members that make a good business thrive! In other words staff members are the key to any business, organisation and team of any type. What an unfortunate experience on lovely Sunday afternoon visiting Broadstairs!

From the outside, this looked like it was going to be great. However, we were really disappointed with the service here which left a bit of a sour taste on the experience. Here’s why...The restaurant has been set up for the COVID response and in theory, it should work well. They have a paper menu that you need to order from however it does not have the savoury options or flavours of ice cream listed (just drinks and sundaes). When we asked the waitress about the favours, she got us the board which was great so we could pick the ice cream flavour. A good start. However, the panini flavours were not told accurately and then when they told us the flavours, they didn’t have them in stock at 12:30, so there was a very limited choice for savoury lunch. I could half live with this as we were in an ice cream parlour. However, here’s the worst bit- we ordered both savoury and sundaes and which came out first? The ice creams! We therefore had to watch our very expensive sundaes (over £10 each) melt whilst we ate our panini (they came out a few mins later). When I asked the waitress about it and asked for a bowl for my ice cream in a cone (yes she expected me to hold it in my hand whilst eating a sandwich with the other) she said - we’ll you didn’t state you wanted them separately!! Eventually, she did offer a replacement ice cream, but by this point, we’d had enough. I just wanted to get out of there- a very expensive bad experience (almost £60 without drinks for 5 people to have 4 sandwiches and 5 ice creams because they had sold out of paninis!)We’ve seen plenty of people queuing for the take away ice cream and I suggest if you want an ice cream from there, this would be the best way of doing it so that you can avoid poor service.

I have been looking forward to my ice cream since lockdown and this was our first outing other than food shopping. I had pistachio, strawberry and chocolate covered in chocolate sauce absolutely wonderful. My husband just watched with his hot chocolate as it was only 9.30am!!! Morelli’s is certainly the best Ice Cream Parlour I have been. The lady serving was so nice and friendly as well. Hand gel at the entrance and exit and tables all spaced out. We will be back soon.

Let me say at once the ice cream is excellent and that from me, a regular visitor to Italy. However... the amount of ice cream in a cone here does not nearly justify the price and if you have kids in tow prepare for a major shock! To be fair, the price list is featured prominently outside, so be warned.

My sister, boyfriend and I visited Morelli's today for the first time today. After our parents having lots of stories of visiting it when they were younger we were eager to try it and we weren't disappointed. We were allowed in with our new puppy and was even offered complimentary "dog ice cream" which she loved! We had two sundaes, both which were absolutely delicious and a waffle that was made freshly for us. The young lady behind the counter was friendly and ensured that we were happy. The decor was fab, facilities were clean (especially with recent CoronaVirus it was good to see) and staff were friendly, I can't wait to go back!

Absolutely brilliant ice creams with creative flavours from big sundaes to small cones, definitely something for everyone! We went as a big family with myself, my husband, dog, family and their kids including 3 little one and everyone had an amazing time! We had to sit outside with the dog in the cold but we didn't mind! Very creamy texture and brilliant flavour! We've been going every year for years and never tire of it! Highly recommend!

If you are hungry, thirsty and fancy an ice cream treat this place fulfills all three in one go. Near to the gardens you can sit inside, outside or cross the road through the gardens for stunning views out to sea and take your ice cream with you. Ice creams, sundae, shakes, coffee or hot chocolate. This place is crammed in the summer. The ice cream is delicious in many flavours to try in tub or cones. It’s pricier than other places but then again it’s for a special treat. I believe they also do doggy ice creams during the summer.
