We popped in without a reservation on a Saturday night and they did their absolute best to accommodate us, and I'm so glad they did! The food was gorgeous and so different (in a good way) to what we're used to from a standard Indian restaurant. Food arrived in good time and hot, obviously freshly cooked. The service was brilliant, they were all very attentive and took time to explain the menu items and offer suggestions. Also, it was very good value! (Our price range is higher due to ordering a bottle of wine and a load of food that was completely unnecessary but beautiful and we're glad we did!) It's a shame we don't live locally as I think we'd happily go back time and time again. Thanks Talwar Express! Hope to see you again soon.

The best Indian restaurant that I have ever been to! I couldn’t reccomend Talwar Express more. The tastiest chaats, street special food, curries and sides. I started with Panipuri that was such a delicate mouthful, packed full of flavour. Every plate that followed became my new favourite dish. I will definitely be returning to the Talwar Express and sharing with everyone I know in Bristol. The staff are so friendly and went above and beyond helping with menu recommendations. Thank you to them and the chefs for a lovely meal at the Talwar Express.

My first time at Talwar Express and it was amazing! I took my daughter and I think it is the best Indian food I've eaten. So full of flavours (the chef grinds all his own spices once a week so they are fresh) and new tastes - different to the 'normal' Indian restaurants I've been to, where I am ashamed to say I often have the same thing. This one is like a taste journey! The best things were Pani Puri (delicate crispy balls full of flavourful ingredients) and a prawn curry with fresh mango and we had lamb shank curry too which was incredible. The chef slow cooks these for 8 hours! It was all so rich and delicious. The chef needs to know he gave us - and others I am sure - a wonderful experience and made us very happy! We had left overs enough for tonight too :) Another thing that makes it such a good experience is the people who work there. They are so professional, attentive, kind, friendly and helpful. They advised on dishes and told us all about them. They are lovely. All in all, I TOTALLY recommend this place to anyone. And I would say, have one of the proper curry dishes as well as the little dishes to fully appreciate the cooking. Thank you so much to the two people who served us. We had a wonderful evening and will very definitely be back!

Such an amazing restaurant - we found this quite randomly on a visit to Bristol and didn't know what to expect but were blown away by how good all the food was. We ordered a mix of things as a group and there wasn't anything we didn't like, everything was absolutely delicious. We mostly had vegetarian food, with a couple of fish / chicken dishes. The food was tasty, authentic, reasonably priced and although we probably over ordered we just couldn't stop eating it! The service was excellent as well, both people who served us were patient and attentive. If you're in the mood for some amazing Indian food, I would highly recommend here!

I feel like I ate at an entirely different restaurant to the good reviews. Truly dreadful. The poppadoms were the first clue, not made with chickpea flour but a puffed rice monster munch of a crisp with average dips. the waiter almost apologised as he put them on the table. The bahji were greasy fried batter and no filling bar one with onion. Zero flavour. The curries were passable and the chicken meat was well cooked, but bland with zero spice. For the price it's a total rip off. Sadly the waiting staff are really nice and clearly trying to work hard to make it ok. Not their fault. It's because of them I didn't complain at the venue, I just felt bad for them I could tell they knew it wasn't good.

After two visits, I'd recommend the following dishes: Amber Chicken 65 (fried pieces of chicken, flavourful and crispy, hot sweet chilli dipping sauce), Prawn Koliwada (fried prawns with spring onion/coriander garnish, fresh, light and moreish!), Keema Pav (really interesting take on the traditional keema, but a crowd pleaser and very tasty), Mughlai Murgh (Fragrant, flavourful chicken thigh curry, mild but delicious). The parathas deserve an honourable mention too. A slight caveat that the poppadoms are not the regular large, flat, crisp-type snack. These are more a grid shaped puffed rice texture. Still delicious, but unexpected! We also tried the blooming onion which wasn't crisp as I anticipated, but the flavour made up for the texture. Overall, well worth a visit and a very convenient location for the theatre.

A Culinary Gem in Bristol: Talwar Express I've had the pleasure of dining at Talwar Express during my recent visits to Bristol, and I must say, it's an absolute gem among Indian restaurants. Having frequented numerous establishments in the area, Talwar Express stands out for its exceptional food, warm ambiance, and unparalleled hospitality. During my stays in January and March, totaling seven days, I had the opportunity to indulge in a variety of dishes, each leaving a lasting impression. From the aromatic masala chai to the flavorful Pao bhaji, pani poori, veg thali, samosa chat, and dal makhni, every bite was a delightful journey through Indian cuisine. What truly sets Talwar Express apart, however, is not just its delectable fare, but the remarkable service provided by the owner and staff. Their genuine warmth and attentiveness elevate the dining experience to new heights, making every visit feel like a special occasion. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur of Indian cuisine or simply seeking an unforgettable dining experience in Bristol, I wholeheartedly recommend Talwar Express. It was ok, nothing to write home about. The starters were pretty good but the curry was disappointing. This just confirmed previous experiences when eating Indian food. Rule number 1: find the worst looking hole in the wall place and you will eat great Indian food. Do not try to eat higher end Indian food, that is just not how it’s meant to be prepared. I assume it’s because if you’re trying to make a proper business work (with rent in an expensive location) you will be cutting costs to maximise profits, this results in less flavour due to diluted sauces and also smaller portions. Just trust me on this one, go to a majority ethnic neighbourhood and find a place that looks like it would have a very low hygiene rating and that doesn’t have cutlery on the tables. You will be guaranteed a good meal. As for the atmosphere, it wasn’t very comfortable. So many things to say…but the worst was probably the manager who was VERY energetic and kept making a loud snorting sound like his nose was blocked. I’ve been to enough parties to know he wasn’t just happy to see us. Then they had the same ‘Indian’ sounding tune on repeat the entire time we were there, kind of how you might imagine an Indian massage parlour to sound. As for the decor, it was all quite low budget and felt very exposed because the windows are just fully open onto a busy road. In conclusion, I feel very sorry for all the people that have left really positive reviews. But also happy for them because they have a whole world of actually good Indian food to explore (I’m not naming the good spots otherwise they’ll be ruined by gentrification, you’ll have go through the effort yourself!).

Our party of four shared several side dishes , two main dishes , two rice and a Chapatti between us which was plenty. The side dishes and sharing dishes were brought out in succession allowing us to enjoy each unrushed... particularly memorable were the Bhaji Selection and Gobi65 marinated cauliflower florets. Great friendly service, lovely food and finished off with delicious Mango ice cream. I look forward to coming again

Wonderful cuisine. We had quite a few dishes. Lamp chops to share. Super delicious and spicy! The curries were also great, as was the chapati and coconut rice. I can’t remember the sides we ordered, but those were my favorites. Service was polite. Our server helped me select a curry and even relit our candle when it blew out. The atmosphere was nice. My wife appreciated the candle decor at our table and the blue and gold color scheme. Overall, highly recommend.

Visited after a trip to the theatre. Loved the selection of food - nice to have choices quite different from the usual Indian restaurant dishes - and the street food set up gives space to try a variety of dishes. Friendly staff, clean, bright and attractive decor. My only negative was that the loud music made talking a bit of work.

Nearly £17 for pappardelle pasta with almost invisible portion of sauce. No further comment needed. Italian waitress was good. Restaurant very noisy.

Went there today and would definitely return- the pizza was so fresh and tasty- it was amazing! Also had a decaf oat latte which was great! The staff were friendly and the place was buggy friendly.

We visited for my father-in-laws birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. While we were looking at the menu I saw another table order a Moroccan dish that looked delicious. After asking if the chef was in fact Moroccan, which she is, I decided she’ll probably cook those dishes the best so I had the tajine and wow! I’ve never actually had a dish where the meat is so tender it falls from the bone. This was exactly how you see food online and it tasted exceptional! I could have eaten twice as much. My family all went for the Italian options - I actually thought it was an Italian restaurant but in fact it’s a Mediterranean, hence the different options. All of my family members are vegetarian and it was lovely to have the waitress tell us you can order almost anything and they will make it vege appropriate for you. All in all we all loved the meal and will definitely visit again. Oh, and be sure to save space for the banoffee pie - it’s homemade and absolutely stunning.
