Moorish Grill in Croydon

Never been in but always order on uber eats when I'm have to stay in the area. Listen out of all the places I've tried thisbis definitely top tier compared to most. So I'm shocked at the reviews. Only reason for 4 stars is that the ackee and saltfish I got didn't look appealing, but when I ate it I was pleasantly surprised. I've been ordering consistently now via just eats and am never disappointed thank you Moorish for giving me some faith in ordering Carribean food as takeaway again.

The portion size gets smaller and smaller each time I place an order. I have just ordered food and half my order was missing. I tried to order the missing items again and my order was cancelled. I won't ever buy from them again.

They are very lazy and And unresponsible staff talk very rudely waiting they not give the proper answer world based slowest shop in Croydon every time when you come, you have to wait for the delivery 45 minute waste waste of it’s ready hello ready

Disappointed, considering Jamaican food is very tasty this takeaway definitely is missing a good chef. We ordered chicken soup which had no chicken in it, buy lots of dumplings instead and the rice and peas with jerk chicken was lacking flavour. Rice was bland and the chciken way too dry and again not very well seasoned and dry.

Staff rude, shame as food is good. Will not be coming again.

Ordered pepper steak and rice all I got was some thin slices of steak covered in grease and sauce did not taste the slightest of pepper steak.. the older lady behind the till gave me nothing but attitude for asking for things like she didn’t want to Do her job. Usually good takeaway but recently gone down hill. I will most definitely be giving moorish a swerve from now on

I've just ordered pepperd steak the meat was soooooo saltey I couldn't eat it without coleslaw that I had in the fridge I called them and explained the lady was really rude I think she was the manager I asked for a different meal but she told me to re ordered and still pay for it because they didn't have any drivers of there own she should have just got a driver anyway because I'm really not happy that's what GOOD REVIEWS ARE FOR

I ordered last night on the recommendation of my sons.,and I was impressed oxtail and hard food, divine, soup excellent and the roti great. It's such a shame they are so far away

I ordered via just eat after placing my order I got a phone call to inform me that they didn’t have some items which was perfectly understandable the lady on the phone said she can swap them for different things which was okay with me. I waited 3 hours no exaggeration for said food to come once delivered all the items that were swapped where missing and one of my other items was missing aswell the food itself was okay but the main reason I purchased from here is I really like the cowslaw but I definitely won’t be buying again extremely disappointing:(

Once again was fortunate to be passing by Moorish grill on a monthly out an about trip from an hour and a half away from countryside ( no jerk chicken land) and just ate Jerk Chicken rice an peas and what can I say, still the Best of the Best in quality taste flavour quantity, f’wording yummy. And the wings as well. Yeah Big Up Moorish grill❤️

Ive ordered from this restraunt on deliveroo a few times now and the delivery isn't always fast but the food makes up for it, i really enjoy the chicken soup and the boneless mutton its always fresh, hot and tasty

This is the last time I order from here. The food may be good but every order I’ve ever made there are missing items that you then have to request a refund for. You should not show items available to order if you don’t have them!!!

Absolutely ridiculous that it says 15-20 minutes in uber eats. Orders take 1h+, food quality is complete crap, flies all over the place. Incapable of getting a order out before 12:00.

Moorish Grill saved us at African Fashion Week London!! They provided a last minute vegetarian feast behind the scenes to fabulousfingersuk . Chickpea curry, plaintain, rice n peas, greens, steamed pumpkin and side salad. Great price brilliant taste 😋

Just purchased oxtall / Jerk chicken / Rice & Peas. And must say quality and portions were worth the money. Great food fresh and good service. Highly recommended

Every time I’ve ordered there’s been food missing and on the odd occasion they have agreed to come back with it, it takes so long so meals are ruined, tonight yet again food missing called the shop and got told they had no drivers to bring missing food and told to request a refund via just eat. That was the very last time I order from this place.

Got a takeaway on 3/11/2018, a large jerk chicken boneless with rice and peas, up there with maybe the best jerk chicken I've had, full of flavours and such a big portion. The patties were good but have had better patties. But all in all banging food, oh yeah the dumpling was nice too.

Poor service, was ignored for a long time. Didn't have half the menu items. Didn't accept card payment.

Bad customer service they robbed me for £5 and refused to refund me I asked for the boss and he hide in the back and told the staff to come out and lie to my face because they didn't want to refund me my £5 end up walking off and telling them to keep the money and the food they was happy to take back the food but not return the money lol it's actually soo sad and embarrassing black food shops will never value customers 😅 I still left with no food or money back and there just happy to stay open honestly if u have Morals stay away from Moorish they just want to rob customers with poor quality food

Great tasting food and generous portions, with nice people serving.

Ive really tried to be fair re this shop, but over a few visists or takeaways over the past 18 months, the food is poor in terms of taste, and the customer service inconsistent. Overall not really worth the visit given the plethora of Jcan food places locally. I've given this place plenty of chances, the only good meal I have ever had is the wings, idk what other customers' experiences are but as an actual born and raised Jcan, this place is not worth the money or time (unless of course your palette doesn't recognise good West Indian food). Visit at your own risk.

1st time ordering from moorish grill as my usual was closed.I ordered for myself 1 piece of fried chicken pasta salad calslaw jerk chicken with rice and peas.I ordered my son curry goat and white rice.My son never ate his said it was bland and dry.I ate mine wasn't great however I was hungry so ate mine..withing 15 minutes of eating mine I had severe stomach cramps and a running belly...I would suggest that you check how your food is prepared also cross contamination and expiry dates...I will not be ordering from moorish grill again.lesson learned.I will stick to flavas first in south norwood...Dissapionted and ruined my planned night out..I also have a good friend who works for environmental health they will be making a spot check/visit..Disgusting!!!!!

The food its way to oily We get some fish and was so damn salty and oil everywhere and taste like burning. The chicken soap just had huge a piece of chicken bone and was basically raw and taste very plane. The people at restaurant seems nice but if u work with food honestly needs to be a clean environment the place look really dirty like greasy they need clean that place for be a proper restaurant.

Bought Stewed Chicken an Rice & Peas, it was the worst I've ever had. Chicken had no flavour and was mainly bones, and the rice & peas was very bland. I will not be ordering from here again.

First takeaway of the new year 4/1/24, I used to order from the Brixton branch quite a lot. So when I walked past this place & it was open, I was extremely happy I got the boneless curry goat, which was lovely, although not spicy enough for my palate & a beef patty. I got the Oxtail for my partner who loves all things Oxtail related & the only complaint was that it didn't have butter beans instead it had peas but the flavours were really good. The service I received was good, very friendly. I had a chat with the chef while I was waiting for my order, which didn't take long at all (I asked for it not to be heated) enough for 2 meals from the large portions, plenty of rice & meat. If I'm ever in the area again, I will be stopping by, I love all things boneless, which is very rare with Caribbean food. I just wish there was a location closer to where I live.

This is crazy!!! Normally I don’t care about the wait on my food especially if it’s soul food aswell but……….. Waited an hour to be told my order was cancelled and they made Deliveroo customs call me and had no attempt to call would not be delivering from here again and would not recommend

Food arrived promptly. Large curry goat with white rice tasted salty and not seasoned well. I have never tasted curry like that from any Caribbean restaurant. Oxtail was black with too much tarry bottled browning and again no seasoning used, although cut small and consistency soft with beans. Coleslaw didn't arrive, awaiting refund on Justeats 🙄 I'd prefer not seeing a Jamaican flag logo because I haven't tasted food from Jamaica ever cooked like that. Keep trying though! ☺️

Ordered on just eat. After 10mins driver was at the resutrant as per the App. After a whole 1 hour my ordered was cancelled when my kids were waiting for their food.

Literally the worst Caribbean food I've ever tasted. One of the worst restaurants ever. Nothing tastes fresh. Not even close. The shop is grim and looks dirty. Been twice to give another chance. Was worse the second time. Not often I throw food away. Couldn't stomach it. Madness

Got a surprise bag for real- plain rice, a tiny piece of chicken and porridge which ended up in the bin outside the shop. It looked disgusting, felt sick just looking at it. Wonder where all the 5 star reviews came from.

Got to say a big thank you to Moorish grill staff! after Uber driver left my food sitting waiting to be collected for almost an hour I wanted to cancel but Uber said they would still charge me cos the order had been made! the lady on phone at Moorish was so apologetic (even though it wasnt restaurants fault) and she offered to re make order and send out fresh food!! It was worth the wait!! Lovely hot and fresh!! So thank you to the lady who answer the phone!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Apparently theres a new chef, Damian, So recently had curry goat rice and peas. Also fried chicken. This recent chefs cooking is an amazing improvement... 👌

My first visit to this restaurant and it would be my last!! My initial thought was let me try it out and support the business as I was hungry and there isn’t a lot of Caribbean shops in the area. Asked for the menu and they gave me a leaflet with the menu. I chose the £7 meal deal that came with any meat, rice or peas, salad with coleslaw. I asked for curry chicken with the meal. The cashier charged me £8, when I reverted back to menu, she said that the menu is just for people to look at but the prices are not the same? So I asked, ‘why would you show me your menu if the prices are not the same?’, the cashier said, ‘we need to update it’. So I paid, only a £1 difference. When I got the food I had no coleslaw and no salad and didn’t realise until I left so I drove back and they made me pay an extra £1 for the coleslaw! I was mortified and asked for it for free and they was adamant I had to pay, so now a £7 meal is £9! Annoying but ok!! When I got home they didn’t give me curry chicken, it was curry goat!! Soooo disappointing. I already settle down and couldn’t be bothered to go back! The food was a 4/10 and wasn’t worth it! I wouldn’t recommend their food to anyone, the service is poor! They rob you in broad daylight and with the cost of living, Who has time to be spending that much money on tasteless food AND they get your order wrong! NEVER AGAIN!

Ordered from here almost a dozen times by now. Never had any issues with food or service, in fact they've been very friendly the 2 times I've had minor issues with my order. Food is generally very good, only minor complaint is that the bone in meats (oxtail + goat) I've tried were cut smaller than I would like and so you get lots of smaller bone pieces, making it a bit harder to get the meat off. Still always happy to order from here whenever I want some Caribbean food!

Ordered on the phone had to pay card, got half way home got a call and they hadn't put the big platter in the bag I asked for a refund on that item, they took my bank details that was well over a week ago I have rang them twice since and they promise a refund within 24 hours the refund has never come!! I wouldn't go back on principle as I understand accidents happen but to completely hold my money is an absolute joke I have waited for a week and a half to write this reveiw in hope they would resolve the issue!!! Will avoid in future!

Feb 2023 late night meal, tasty. August 2022 - so I went back to Moorish Grill, got the food in the pics below, got over charged by £2.20 (paid cash) more than the prices advertised, when I queried, I was told that I've been charged the correct amount! July 2022 - I've had better experiences in the past at Moorish Grill Selhurst Rd. I said hello to the only staff in the shop, I was ignored, she was having a snack and she was speaking to someone on her mobile, I thought she must be on her break. Waited for someone to come and serve me. While I was looking around the shop and waiting, she stood up and came to take my order, still eating a rolled wafer. While packing my food, she asked if I wanted it heated I said no however she had already heated one of the meals and didn't say anything about it. I asked if the curry goat meal came with a side, her response "hell noooo" then placed the hot meal in between the chilled foods! Portions were good except for the large curry goat, rice and peas that looked like a regular or small portion was still hungry after eating this.

Been using this place over 10years regular customer I was overcharged and genuinly felt targeted due to my skin colour by female employer she overcharged me £1.50 / wen questioned aparently there was inflation overnight but the very next day it was back to original price wen questioned no fuks were given basically take it or leave attitude 🤦🏻‍♂️ hungry was a understatement / couldn't be bothered to argue as she was alone an drive down due to moving but wont be using again if this happens its embarrassment, geezer that works there is diamond! honest! friendly and food is amazing

Food is usually tasty and great portions however i would not recommend ordering after around 7pm as they will either not update you on ur order via the chosen app or not include something in your order without letting you know

I bought their chicken and rice dish and to my surprise, the curry and rice or freezing cold. They didn’t even bother to warm it up for the customer and the test was just basic.

Sent me a completely different order rather than just give me a refund. Absolute joke. Don’t advertise it if you don’t have it.

Maybe ten days ago I bought jerk chicken, rice and peas there in person. Portion size was good, as was the sauce flavour. But beware of jagged chopped bones. On Saturday I had food delivered, and I was less happy. The 'pork' (are you sure? the bones looked wrong) and chicken was at least 50% jagged bone. The snapper was limp and a bit flavourless (I've had crisp, spicy snapper many times in Brixton) and the soups were mainly lumps of carbs and little meat. I had to add black pepper and Tabasco to all of it, which I don't expect from this sort of cuisine. I'll try them once again because maybe I was unlucky the second time, but all the chopped bones are dangerous and spoil the enjoyment / value for money.

Poor service, poor attitude and poor quality of food. I have eaten from them 3x over 2020-2022 and they have not improved. The first time 2020 was a Just eat delivery and it took 1½hrs to get to me (barring in mind that I live 6mins drive away). And yes I checked and it was the restaurant delaying delivery. When I called (2x) to ask what the delay was, they were as rude as you could imagine. The food was subpar. Second time 2021 I went to the establishment and I got my food quickly as I pre-ordered. Food still subpar. Thrid time 2022 it was late and they were 1 of 2 options of places to buy from so I pre-ordered assuming it would be a quick pick up like before. I stood out the front for a good 4mins saying "HELLO. EXCUSE ME." as I could hear about 4 people round the back having a conversation. When 2 eventually came out it was as though I didn't exist. They carried on tidying/cooking without addressing me. The third person came out and I repeated "hi excuse me" and they just looked at me and walk off then 10sec later walk back to the counter. I explain what I need (politely) and without acknowledgement they walk off. I was waiting so patiently for another 5mins then I had to ask the obvious question and was met with the most attitude smh. I will always support black businesses but I can't. I just can't with this one.

Peppersteak was small ordered large! Chewy horrible meat and stuck together rice and peas! Awful and a waste of money went straight in the bin ! Ordered the same meal somewhere else! Never again

Food is really nice an you can ask the staff about all the meals they have,an they have such a large menu and loads of different drinks an snacks as well as lunch time meal deals an I could go on...

I ordered my food today and I can't say it was a good experience I spend over 50 pounds and not all my order came the drinks are 5 pou ds each I order 4 only got 1 out the 4 and they didn't have veg rice and gave me rice and peas which I don't eat but could of given me plai. White rice which would make more since plus food was all that hot and the rest of food was ok was the greatest but yh sorry for the review but needs to be said

Bottom barrel restaurant. I ordered and got my food an hour and a half late. When I called to track my order they told me the driver is driving not flying.. the tracker says it takes no longer than 30 mins so that's a lie. When the food came, it wasn't at all what I ordered and they had left things out. I asked for a refund and they told me the business doesn't work like that. AVOID this place is trash and is why black business doesn't prosper

Disappointing food and the delivery time was nearly an hour! The taste of the food was quite bland (curry mutton and chickpea curry) and the cuts of meat was stringy with a lot of bones. I was really disappointed in the lack of favour in the food and the portion size of the veggie curry.

I tried the boneless curry goat with rice and peas, Macaroni Cheese and a festival. The portion sizes are great, with the large curry goat meal and Macaroni Cheese you could split for two people. The delivery time was pretty quick, maybe 20 minutes. With the Curry Goat, the meat quality was good and the curry was okay but not as flavoursome as I hoped. The Macaroni Cheese was okay, but just like the curry, the flavour was a bit bland and a bit inconsistent with taste, if you see on the picture the orange part had good taste and the rest it did not have much cheese flavour. The festival was nice and smelled good, it was a bit tougher compared to elsewhere but was still nice enough for me to finish it all. To conclude, Moorish Grill is decent/average/okay, it's not the best Carribean Takeaway I've tried but definitely not the worst. If you have no other options, I guess give this place a go and decide for yourself.

Can you believe that a shop can constantly take peoples delivery money for food that they KNOW THEY DONT HAVE. They do this constantly. The woman that works there is rude as hell. She should be ashamed of herself. They love to steal people's money as they take your money but never send your full order. What makes it worse is they do not care either. Yuck. I've eatan here twice. First time, to try it, as just moved in area, I did not rate it. Thought I'd give it a second time and treat some family. We all had different dishes& all agreed it was horrible. It's the closest Caribbean to me, but I definitely wouldn't eat here again. Very disappointing. I don’t understand if you didn’t have the items that I order why would you assume I wanted something else .You could have simply called and ask if I wanted something else as a replacement I’m never ordering from the restaurant again .
