had cod and chips. fish cooked to order. in my opinion the best in mablethorpe.

First trip to Mablethorpe in 30 + years. After checking reviews we decided on Montys for our fish and chip dinner. It was cooked to order and delicious. Definitely the best fish and chips we've had for a very long time and we're extremely fussy about our fish.

Honestly some of the best fish and chips I've ever had! All made fresh and was huge! I will return.

Never been before and wouldn’t go again. Ate in the cafe at the back, but had to order in the chip shop itself. The cafe was filthy with other tables not being cleared. The chips were ok, but the fish was awful, thin and overcooked. Even the tomato ketchup was runny and tasteless. Didn’t even want to use the toilet as the cafe was bad enough.

This place is great had large fish and chips the fish was that big they had to put on a angle just to get it into the box the batter was was crispy the fish flaked to perfection but the main reason for this review is that had a issue with the table outside and managed to lose all my dinner to land on the floor. devastated went back indoors and ordered an other meal and was willing to pay for the accident but staff said no charge as the table was wobbly and would like to thank them again for been so kind as they didn't have to bang on 👍

We ate in, you can’t order from the restaurant though. We walked round the front to order. When the food came the 2 chip butties were served on 1 plate instead of a plate each. There were roughly 6 chips in each bread bun. We asked where the rest of the food was and were told if we wanted more chips to go back round the front to order.

Terrible service & tiny portions

Don't ignore the negative reviews, just don't go! The service was non-existent, tables were dirty, and the food looked unappetising. My husband took one bite of the burger and started retching, it was that vile. I decided not to eat the battered sausage for fear of a similar experience. My bread roll was soggy, as if it hadn't been defrosted properly. Trying to understand and being understood by the female member of staff was difficult enough when ordering, so we decided not to complain, and just binned our uneaten food.

Was busy..but it was better than l thought it would be..

I recently visited a fish & chips bar and was thoroughly impressed. The portions were incredibly generous, perfect for anyone with a big appetite. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, with a crispy batter that added just the right amount of crunch. The chips were equally delicious, golden and fluffy on the inside. To top it all off, the service was outstanding – the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place for anyone craving a satisfying and tasty meal!

Unfortunately not the best experience. Ordered x2 curry chip buttys, got 5/6 chips on a cheap bun with curry sauce on top, handed on 1 plate and a napkin for £2 odd each (£2.60 each) I think. Certainly not what we was expecting. Asked where the rest of the chips were and told we would have to queue again and wait for the additonal paid chips as that's all it was. Certainly not the chip butty we were expecting.

By far the best chippy I have ever bought from. Chips cooked in beef dripping. Keep up the good work. We’ll be back again next year.

I went out with my family for some food and it was so worth it we all had the most amazing time. Everyone who works there was being so nice to all of us, I was a bit worried as it was quite busy but it was definitely worth the wait the fish was delicious. Couldn't be more perfect definitely coming back again 😁

Visited tonight didn't know the old owners had left but will never return again waited 40 mins for cheese burger and medium chips. They forgot the order and had ran out of everything even including containers. The portion size was ridiculous and the food awful couldn't even eat it. Burger was like cardboard and chips were old and stale. Will never come here again. Staff weren't helpfull and didn't even apologise about forgetting the order. They also go other people's order wrong and made them wait ages too.

Fantastic 10 out of 10 highly recommend pride taken over quality and keeping a good quantity too. You might have to wait a little longer but everything is cooked fresh. Didn't see any chickens though.

Wow the food is great here. The prices are good and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Had cod and chips, the chips were cooked to absolute perfection and the fish was superb. Not like other places that use frozen battered fish this was freshly prepared and cooked. I would 100% recommend it. They have a seating area round the back.

Absolutely brilliant food, the portion was really large and food fresh made. Very friendly staff and dining area very clean. One of best fish & chips I ever been. 10 out of 10. Very recommended.

Recently discovered this gem of a chip shop Mar 2023. As a chef I love the flavour that the beef dripping adds to the chips and the batter.. Every time I have been it's been cooked to order and the fish is cooked very well with a lovely crispy batter and with nice big flakes of cod.. I've heard recently that they have stopped cooking in beef dripping? Can anyone confirm if this is true. I personally hope not.

Wouldn't bother wasting your money here portion size is absolutely shocking had large cod and chips what was more like a cone of chips and absolutely swimming in grease was like I just got them out the sea.would not reccomend definitely go to saltys around the corner staff are alot more friendly and food is 100 times better

Great fish and chips best in Mablethorpe

The food and service here always used to be great. We didn’t know that new owners had taken over this business when we visited this time. The fish and chips tasted and looked terrible. The fish had a distinct burnt taste and the chips appeared to have been refried. Not only that but we used the cafe as always and were shocked when our food was served in a takeaway box at the table instead of the usual plate with knife and fork. Apparently to cut down on costs as told by the server. This was our last ever visit to what used to be our go-to restaurant.

Was looking forward to going and getting my fix, really disappointed not done in beef dripping no more, the chips were like cardboard and horrible, the fish looked like it had been run over by a steam roller and was not cod, cheap and tasteless, then found out the previous owners had sold up. Won't be going anymore

So disappointed, I always check the reviews first because we cannot afford treats very often. We took our food the short walk to the beach and tucked in, the Chips were cold and the sausage was not just cold but raw in the middle. Save your precious money and use somewhere else.

Absolutely spot-on! Mabo's finest fish and chips spot, no doubt. They even accommodated my request for half curry and half mushy peas, which was fantastic. The batter was perfectly crispy, and the fish was deliciously flavorful. A small portion was more than satisfying, and for just over a tenner, including fish, chips, peas, curry, and a can of shandy, it's unbeatable value. I'll definitely be returning for more!

The food was brilliant. Staff are very helpful. The Large fish was on steroids it was huge. It's definitely worth a visit if you're hungry. Only criticism is you pay extra to sit in, but the food is served on the same trays as the takeaway.

Well we went 11 years ago and had to go back this week to see if it was still as good and it didn’t disappoint. The premises were spotless. The staff were so friendly even stayed open so we could go back to van get sorted then come back later. We ended up having a good chat, felt like we’d known each other years. There’s only one place for me and that’s Monty’s!

Has always been our go to but yesterday wasn't as good as usual, sat in as it was cold outside, didn't expect food to be served on same trays as take away side,not as enjoyable left disappointed.

Don't expect a dining room to serve food piled up on a small cardboard tray! Fish was wet inside batter, peas ok & chips average. Will not visit again, don't recommend!

Easy I say ; Monty's fish and chips is the best

Fish slightly greasy and not given many chips, person that served me and my family today walked off and another member of staff was moaning at him Infront of everyone as he seemed to leave on a break or something he just just left mid order. Don't think I'll be back here again anytime soon. Disappointing

We where looking for fish and chips to eat in and came across Monty’s, and noticed that the sign said cooked in beef dripping so we gave it a try and wow what great fish and chips and mushy peas at a reasonable price. I had the haddock with my chips it was so white and fresh the chips wasn’t soggy like other chippys. The staff was great I would highly recommend Monty’s and would eat there again to have a fish supper how it should be served 5**********.

We had googled the best fish & chips in Mablethorpe and found Monty’s to be the best. It’s tucked away on the corner of a side street 2 mins away from Mablethorpe ice cream. We sat outside as we’ve got 2 dogs and it was lovely weather but there’s a dining room to sit in too. We had large haddock and large mushy peas each , the fish was cooked fresh in beef dripping and was beautifully flaky. Light batter. We got a jumbo sausage for the dogs and the lady who served us chopped it up and left it to cool for them. Would def recommend and go back again

Hands down the best chip shop in Mablethorpe. The only problem is finding something else to fill the void on Mondays and Tuesday when they are close. I love the fish, the chips and the gravy is to die for. My dad also recommends their home made pies when they have been made.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, I was served the best fish and chip takeaway I have ever eaten. Skinless, boneless cod cooked to perfection and chips cooked in beef dripping. I highly recommended this place if you find yourself looking for a bite to eat in Mablethorpe, this place also has seating if you wish to dine in.

After a day at the beach, fish and chips were on the plan . We went to Monty’s , lucky to get a seat outside in the shade . Service was excellent and so were the fish and chips . We said thank you to the team as we left , just an appreciation of what they do on such a warm day .

Having read good reviews of this Fish and chip shop we decided to give it a try. They cannot skin haddock so we plumped for the Cod which was not very fresh. They also charged us eating in prices in the dining room but did not refund us when we managed to get a table outside..

Went here with the family while on holiday last week. Traditional fish and chips at its best. Absolutely spot on. My little girl described it as the best chippy she has ever had and I would have to agree with her. Superb

Quite simply the best fish and chips I've ever had, everything was spot on, not greasy or over cooked, chips cooked to perfection in dripping that made them flavoursome, fish, sausage in batter and fishcakes were ordered along with curry sauce and drinks for four people, I was astonished at the quality and the more than reasonable price, in fact I was very surprised how extremely cheap it was.

Anniversary fish and chips, couldn’t decide what to have? Decided on regular chips and curry sauce with a small fish ! Absolutely beautiful never seen fish so white delicious 👍

200 mile round trip on my motorcycle especially to eat at Montys and as always the fish and chips were superb, never had a bad meal there keep up the good work.

Having been fans of Montys for many years, we returned again on our recent visit. But sadly we were disappointed this time. The chips were quite soggy and not as tasty as normal.

Oh my, been going to Mablethorpe for day trips and kids holidays for years, never really wandered of the main streets, but we are so glad we did, best Haddock and Chips I have had in a long time, don't change a thing, keep it as it is, little room at the back was cosy too, I will be back 💙

Great food and great service. Small seating area inside. Order in the shop front and sit in the area at the rear. Recommended

Mature couple Mid September. Found Montys. Great batter and fresh fish... ...just can't beat it.. Really enjoyed put fish suppers dine in along with mug of tea.. def go back next time we are in Mablethorpe.

I tried Saint anns & used to go to saltys but I think Montys is the best fish & chips shop In mablethorpe I've been to & it's far better than Saltys. Staff are very friendly & the fish & chips are perfect. I think Monty's is underrated compared to saltys. I definitely go to Monty's everytime I go on holiday to Mablethorpe. Keep up the good work 👍

Just of the front this is a great find - really great food, friendly staff and so helpful giving us extra free chips when my wife accidentally put sugar on instead of salt!

The chips looked under done but they wasn't they tasted spot on, lovely chips, hubby said the battered black pudding was really nice, in the past when we've had black pudding our granddaughter has always said yuk but she had a bit of grandad's cookie (battered black pudding) and she said it was really nice. I had adults chips and gravy, our granddaughter had children's chips and peas both plates looked the same amount

Where do I start family was eating in while we was having a take out.i paid for fish and chips x2 & 3 battered sausage an chips & asked if I could have them made an wrapped when I let them know but they wrapped everything up straight away with salt & vinegar too.when I went in 15mins later they said they wrapped them when I paid 20mins ago so I refused as I had a 15min walk an they will be cold so they refused a refund or replacement apart from the curry sauce so I only took the fish and chips but noticed they put the battered sausages back on the rack an chips back into the fryer.which I’m concerned about as people who don’t eat meat have have probably had there food in contact with these sausages an the chips refried.was also told to leave the dinner area because I had purchased chips that was in a polystyrene cone instead of there plates.

Disappointing after reading all the reviews. Fish batter was really soggy and a large chips was more like a small. If we want fish and chips again during our holiday, will try one of the many other chippies in the area.

A great place to get some chips. Fast service and friendly helpful staff, the food was very tasty too. Definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Called 17/5/22 ordered and thought at the time it was expensive but put it down to price rises, meal was nowhere near as good as it used to be, and when I got home checked their price leaflet to find out I had been overcharged...

Chips soaked in oil, small fish no bigger than a fish finger. Only good thing about this place was the bread bun. Staff are friendly enough.

Visited Monty's whilst on holiday and they are absolutely gorgeous. Staff friendly and food reasonably priced.
