Monsoon in Gateshead

OMG - we visited for our wedding anniversary and the food was delicious; Chicken Tikka Rezzella with Special Pilau Rice was unbelievably good while my wife was disappointed that she couldn't finish her Butter Hash Duck with Garlic Pilau Rice because it was so tasty. There were several other couples in the restaurant at the same time, and we all enjoyed our food except one "professional complainant" - but we didn't allow her whingeing to spoil our evening. We'll keep supporting the excellent team at the Monsoon and enjoying delicious meals.

We have a takeaway every Saturday and it is always top quality. Staff are so friendly and food is outstanding. I could not fault Monsun in any way. Great food and staff.

Gave my friend fish curry. She has allergies to fish. When I told the person he said sorry wrong table. His attitude was terrible. He said sorry I said you could have done serious harm he said. I’ve said sorry what more do you want. Then over charged me stay clear

We normally love the food at this restaurant. They have recently started a Eat as Much as you can buffet on a weekend for £15 per head. Omg we were so disappointed! I know it is difficult to keep food warm when it is a buffet but the food was cold! Wont be back!

1st time here to a place that has been on the Fell for a long time. It's Monsun not Monsoon. Quiet for a Friday night. The food was excellent and service good too. My main course of Chicken Tikka Jall Merchi was hot and spicy as described! The place is a bit tatty around the edges, especially the carpet which is ready for the skip. So a few pounds spent might get a few more through the door.

Having lived at the coast I have consumed a lot of curries with the vast choice of restaurants. Low fell being much morr limited and on a rainy night we decided to stay local and go here on the recommendation of a friend. The place was warm and we were given a table dtrsight away. I notice the place was very old school even down to the trolley they brought the food on. Drinks and food ordered we had the pickle trsy and it was nice. The yogurt sauce had a slightly gloopy consistency but tasted ok. being only the 2nd party in there the food came after a reasonable wait. Service was polite abd the starter nice enough, bhuna prawn on puri and chicken tikka. Next rice garlic naan and chicken dhansak and bhuna. Nice chicken , sauces slightly spicy but no problem but no pineapple in the dhansak which was dissapointing and the naan a bit smaller than am ysed to but appreciste rising costs and it was nice. We had a pleasant night and enjoyed the food rounded off by tje obligatory after eight.

OMG, so good. We had an anniversary meal which was exceptional. The staff were first class, atmosphere charming and food exceptional. We will return and I'll have the Tikka Chicken Sri Lanka again - so tasty.

As always , food and service fab. I opted for chicken shashlik , thought it was the dry bits of chicken with sauce (we got lost in translation and my fault) but when it arrived and I started eating it, I was dead pleased. Not too hot with a lovely tomato base. Would order again. Prices are reasonable too. Suggest you book As it was packed on Saturday night

Came here for fathers day with my family. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. We were seated immediately and our drinks order was taken. Our food arrived shortly after, we ordered chicken tikka starters followed by mains of chicken dupiaza x2 and chicken bhuna with chips, rice and naan. All food was cooked to perfection and tasted beautiful! Curries were full of flavour and prices were reasonable for both food and drinks. Can't wait to return!

Just got back from paddling for 6 days around Scottish islands and all I could think about was the food from this place... just had best curry ever - accept no substitute!!

Ordered via just eat. Food arrived quickly and was hot. Both starters and main were very tasty, fresh and full of flavour. Will definitely be back. The delivery driver was very pleasant too.

I'm sure they have changed the chef. Been very disappointing lately.Definately not as good as it was.

This place is absolutely amazing. We have been coming here since we lived in low fell and each time, the food is delicious and the service is tremendous. Staff are very friendly, polite and accommodating. Loved every meal and will continue to do so!!

I came here last year but the food was expensive but it was very nice looking restaurant and food was really nice. The staff were really nice and welcoming Nice place to go check out if your going to have a meal with family

Second time eating in (but have ordered take out since the pandemic started) and we loved the new and improved decor of Monsun. The menu looks the same I think although we do usually go for near enough the same food to be honest. The restaurant was busy but they kept to the pandemic guidelines. The food was fab, plentiful and always served with a smile. Love coming to this family run business. They gave us each a beer glass each at the end of the meal which was a nice touch. Been coming here for at least 8 years and they’ve never served us a bad meal. See you soon guys!!

Don’t order via just eat, as they might not deliver, then when you try can call them 23 times in an hour their phone is constantly engaged, leaving you hungry and going to bed at 9.45pm on a Friday night as it’s too late to get anything else but if you don’t go to sleep you’ll be starving! Fabulous end to a stressful week, NOT!This is after ordering at 7.30 for 8.30, for it to be pushed back to 9 as it was busy... trying to call and then have to use the stupid JUSTEAT chatbot 9.15-9.30, starving, to eventually have no joy, no food & the prospect of fighting for refunds in the morning. Ruddy fantastic. Don’t bother.

I get my take-aways from here, and have brought colleagues from abroad for a meal when they visit. The kitchen is amazing. Food is beautiful, well presented and loads of it. Can't recommend the place enough.

Since the lockdown they have had a complete refit,must say it looks great.The food is very well cooked and presented ,the staff are first class and since lockdown they are going the extra for customers like us you want to eat out.

Went here last night with the missus. Cracking food, cracking atmosphere. Loved it and could eat it all again now. Service was spot on. Cant wait to go back.

We always use here when we want a good quality Indian at a reasonable price.The staff are friendly prices on meal nites are great and they will alter the meals to suit as they have to do for my wife overall can't fault.

I have used this place in the past and the food is average at best. However its close and delivery is normally on time.I ordered a delivery last night on Just Eat and was given a delivery time. The time came and went so I rang them to see what was happening. I was told that they had stopped accepting Just Eat deliveries as they were too busy. I explained that I had paid for the food and wanted my money back, and they responded that they hadnt accepted my order. It was shown as completed on my app but they said i had to take it up with Just Eat. Very unhelpful I tried to ring just eat and was on the phone an hour then I gave up because I was just on hold. I managed ti get them this morning but was told that as far as Just Eat were concerned the meal was delivered and the restaurant has been paidCheating scum

Yet again the monsun delivered a fantastic meal. Lovely staff and great food reasonably priced. We had a great birthday meal with friends very much recommended, wouldn’t go anywhere else. Thank you monsun.

Second time ordering from this place and very happy with the food! Both me and the Mrs love our food, and this place hit the spot! The food portions were great, prices very reasonable and the delivery was on time. Would highly recommend if you enjoy Indian food!

Our son booked a table here. The menu looked fine and also have a ‘meal deal’ and we were luckily there on one of the nights. The food was fine, loved the starters. I don’t like too spicy food but it was very very mild. Might try a medium one next time. Couldn’t give it 5 stars as the carpets could do with a deeper clean and a lick of paint wouldn’t go amiss.

Had lovely meal here at the Monsun Restaurant. Food and service excellent. Only criticism was it was so cold in the restaurant as the main door was wide open. Very chilly 🥶.

Ordered a take away vegetable madras, once I had opened the carton found that it was as hot as a Phall ! and was really just red liquid, two carrots and two small pieces of potatoes in the whole thing, Bin !!Would not recommend or use again.

Never had a bad curry from the monsoon. Great range of dishes and always piping hot and delicious. Service is fantastic too. Recommended, will be back!!

The food was so disappointing. The rice had peppers and onions in, which we said not to put in. The curries were bland. Awful.

There were three of us at our small meal, ourselves (not new to Low Fell, but obviously Americans) and our friend (she’s a local to Low Fell). The three of us are used to eating slowly with lots of talk and taking our time. Thus, we shared everything.

Visited as a family group of 5. Excellent service, friendly and quick. Great vegetable samosas. Everyone had a different curry and we all enjoyed it. Reasonable prices too.

Very good Indian curry. I love the chicken korma and the garlic naan bread (which I had.)Next time I am going to have something else. My dad had chicken tandoori kheema which he thought was delicious.

Not the first visit to the Monsun and as always was great. We ordered 2 of the £11.95 banquet meals, added a few extras and paid for the tikka option. Food was excellent quality and plenty of it. The deal included a liqueur coffee and you couldn't get better value for money. One issue with one of the glasses on the table which was swiftly dealt with. £43 for a meal for two with a bottle of house white. Will be back.

My first visit here I was really impressed with the food, the service was great, a very enjoyable night and great value.

My friend and I ordered from the set menu which was great value for money. There was also plenty of choice. Food was tasty and arrived quickly. We visited on a Sunday night and it was fairly busy considering. Service was also fairly good, if not a bit rushed.

Went in on Wednesday the 14th of March very quiet so got the table straight away by myself ordered bhuna lamb on puree for starters really nice and succulent had half a kingfishers really nice drink it cold. Had ordered chicken madras for main course very nice as well chicken with succulent service was good with definitely go back

First time at this restaurant as we previously used other Indian's in Low Fell.

When we entered there was already two big parties in so we got the second last table.We ordered drinks then as you do looked at other tables everyone was ordering the midweek special so we did the same.It was the first time we had ordered the special and the meal was top quality if a little less quantity than the meals on the proper menu.We will return and may order from this menu in future.Best Indian on the fell.

Ordered a takeaway for a lovely family New Year’s Day gathering. Very disappointed when we unpacked food and noted main meal and popadoms missing. Telephoned manager who very unhelpful. Said they would deliver meal but didn’t know when. I reminded him that food would be cold! I advised I would expect a refund and suggested they offer something additional as gesture of goodwill as we’ve been customers for a long time. Not interested and lacking in any customer service skills. This is second time this has happened. The first time I gave them benefit of the doubt. Needless to say I will never return.

Nipped in with a coworker and had some great food. Excellent service and cheap prices - will definitely be eating there again.

We often eat midweek as you can get a table food is excellent and the staff are always friendly decor is modern and they also have sir conditioning.

We often eat at this restaurant and buy take out meals even more often. The food is always of the highest standard and they us only chicken breast in the dishes. There is a wide range of dishes to choose from and the baked breads are first class.

He oído muchas críticas buenas y en última pude probar. La comida estaba bien, no era tan buena, nan pastoso. Bebida era plana, servicio lento, no toallas calientes. Luego encontramos lo que parecía ser un trozo de madera de media pulgada de largo sobre comida, si se ingiere, habría probablemente estrangulación explicación si era un pedazo de corteza de canela, sí entiendo que, pero no creo que lo que podría haber sido peor si se ingiere. . . . Tan fácil decir que no a visitar. !

Normalmente vamos a 2 / 3 veces al mes, nunca he tenido una comida pobre pero poco ahora nos tendrán nietos Sat nite así en el futuro para llevar. Sólo tenía buen son de primera para llevar todavía por el dinero pagado.

Esta casa de curry es local y la buena calidad son currys regados con kinfisher hace una buena noche. Hay mejores casas de curry, pero este lugar es bien de precio y siempre disfrutar.

I visited the restaurant whilst on a business trip. The service was good and the food was excellent.

It's a few years since I last visited the Monsun which was always a favourite of mine. Staff are attentive and there is a warm ambience. The food didn't disappoint although I think there must be a change of chef since the last time I visited. I noticed slight changes to the meals I selected but still delicious. Good value for money and a pleasure to visit. I will visit again.

Really disappointed, ordered a takeaway and when I opened it there was an elastic band in the food! So gross and totally put off entire order and complete waste of £20. Contacted the restaurant and told them what had happened and was completely ignored. Will never go back!

I called in to the restaurant with family and friends and the food was crap to say the least very poor quality and the vegetable curry Whitch was served was crap no taste and small portions not good enough very very bad quality of food and the rice was poor quality also must of been the cheapest rice they could getit find it difficult and hard time understand why such a poor quality dish washer allows to leave the kitchen without been checked not sure who the chef is but sack himI was embarrassed to be served such poor meal. I've travelling around India and NEVER had such a bad meal as the vegetable curry as I got in your restaurant. I was even more bad to call it an Indian meal

this restaurant is mainly known for its takeaways but we called in for a meal on the off chancepretty standard Indian fayre on the menu but the service was good, the atmosphere was nice and the food was of a high quality

Where do i start apart from the worst indian meal we have ever had.Starters were very bland...One of our parties main was scampi which was served still cold in the middle..Everyones curries had no taste...I take it that it was a busy night but if you cant porduce good HOT tasty food then why bother booking people in...Not meaning to be picky but even tables had curry stains on from the last sitting...Total fail in our eyes.Total dissapointment as it was for a special occasion...

Visited this restaurant when in Gateshead...........excellent choice. Good quality Indian food and well priced. Varied menu and give you some 'specialities'..........Tika/Keema highly recommended. Service was quick and efficient and very pleasant even when very busy for both sit-in and carry out. Obviously a popular Indian restaurant in this area and beyond. Can highly recommend.

I'm a regular visitor to this place, too regular my wife will say. Practically lived out of the kitchen when the house was being renovated. I think the quality of food for the price you pay is excellent value for money. I normally get the £9.95 special which is on six days a week (excluding Saturdays) which includes starter, main course, rice dish, nan bread, poppadoms and salad. All tasting fresh and plentiful portions. I normally go for a Tikka Balti for mains which is full of meat and a lovely rich sauce. Garlic pilau has lovely big chunks of garlic in which is right up my street. Certainly one of the best 3 course specials ( or is it 4?, can't remember) that you will get in my opinion. Sat in the restaurant itself a few times and have no complaints. The lamb chops are fantastic by the way.

Visited tonight 7pm restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived but filled up before we left,We ordered onion bahji and meat samosa for starters Followed by chicken jalfrezi and the tandoori cocktail ( mixed meat and chicken) with garlic nann, chicken tikka rice and chips With a drink each.All food was cooked beautifully and service was excellent,Toilet were immaculate ( looks like they've been refurbished)We ordered a chicken korma with a garlic nann rice and chips for our son before we left and he said it was " lush "

This place is good value for money both as a restaurant and a takeaway... I've done both and have always been happy... the food is always good and as a family run business service is also. Go in and try for yourself....

Always get a takeaway but have not had one since January and lot one last night always get the same thing husband has a chicken curry and I have a Pathia curry but the chicken was different it looked liked tilka chicken we were really disappointed!! Is it a new menu as curries were not the same or new chef ? X

We deceided to pop into monsoon to finish off our night ..although I use this restaurant frequently for a 'take away' and is always amazing , we thought for a change we would sit in... the service was exceptional, but without being in your face the staff was extremely obliging to our needs...The food had the wow factor, and extremely fantastic value for money. ..

Takeaway last night.Nasty - watery sauce and clearly a re-heated set of dishes. Previously fresh coriander and lovely sauces. Lazy last night and there is to much local competition to cut corners.

I have been dining at this restaurant for many years and the best in Low Fell the a staff are extremely friendly and attentive, however I don't go out as often as I used to now so I use their delivery service and it's brilliant the food is every bit as good as dining in restaurant , I wouldn't order from any other Indian restaurant so thank you Monsun

It's not called monsoon! It's monsun and its lush!!! Love this place and the lovely lad that manages it! We come here regularly for the special on a Sunday. It's worth a visit!!!

I've had food here on a few occasions and always found it quite decent. Staff are pleasant and the service has been ok. The food has always been fine although not outstanding. The atmosphere in the restaurant is ok but on the occasions that I have visited there have only been a couple of other tables occupied. I would certainly recommend Monsoon if you are looking for your typical Indian menu in pleasant surroundings.

We have ate here at monsun a handful of times and each time we have enjoyed it. Most recent visit was last night and as usual it was lovely. Great attentive friendly service. Food cooked perfect. Waiting time just right between each of the courses. Would recommend a visit.

Six of us came for a meal on Saturday night The service was very good as was the food. We all had something different and there was no complaints The food and wine were reasonably priced Although the restaurant is quite small we didn't feel hemmed in and the staff were extremely attentive. I will definitely return

Visited on a Thursday night with friends and ordered off special menu, to be honest I wasn't too impressed with the size of the portions and the curry was a bit tasteless in my opinion, I suspect this was because it was off the specials menu. May visit again and try something off main menu because the restaurant itself is nice and service good.

This restaurant is truly amazing. We have visited it a few times and always been impressed with the quality of the food and the service. Nicest curry ive ever tasted and believe me I'm fussy when it comes to my food, the staff are great. Very accommodating and always willing to offer suggestions when ordering food. The prices are great. They offer a 5 course meal throughout the week for just over £10 and you can get a bottle of wine at a really decent price too so It certainly doesnt break the bank. Tonight we got a takeaway and if I'm honest I didn't think it would be as good as eating in the restaurant but I couldn't fault it. It came within 25 minutes. Ordering and paying over the phone was quick and simple, got a phone call to say they had arrived and the Delivery drivef was very pleasant. Well impressed with this place

I have been dining at the Monsun for around ten years. The food quality is always excellent - I love their Chicken Tikka Methi ... the staff are so friendly and helpful ... the service is superb. You will not find a better Indian restaurant in North-East UK!!

We have had take away food from here twice in the last month, everything we have had has tasted amazing. At a good price, with good efficient service. Could not want for more... Ok if I was super picky I would ask that they remove the copyright watermark so I can read the online menu on me phone. As I said super picky, our first choice for Indian Food on the (Low)Fell.

Did not intend to eat here but I am sure glad I did. The food was cooked with quality fresh ingredients. The flavors were all spot on. The service was also well above average. I ate here at lunch time with friends but from the looks of the pictures on the wall as you enter it looks like a fun place in the evenings. The only word of caution would be to people with mobility issues as there are a lot of steps to get in and out!

A large family group ate here last weekend to celebrate a birthday. We were well looked after by the staff; found the atmosphere buzzy and thoroughly enjoyed a range of starters and mains.Overall great value and consistently good.Shame the name on TA is not the same as restaurant signage!!!

We where in Gateshead for a gig then went there for food after been told it was the best around ....... and yes it was the best Indian we have had .......

Mr H (husband) should have stocks in this place he gets a takeaway that often! Great lamb, In fact one of our favourite sit down and takeaway places we go to! Often pop in on our way home for our curry. Special nights are great value and a lot of curry places in Low Fell seem to change hands - this is consistent. Never had a bad meal there yet and we have had A LOT! Plentiful portions and a special night feeds two (although we do get an extra starter as we never agree which one to get!) I haven't seen a decrease in portion size as described in the last review. Try the lamb samosas - mmmmmmmm!!!

This restaurant came highly recommended from a friend who dined their. I have to say that I have to totally disagree with the current reviews. We recently ordered a 'Set meal for two' which cost £21.95, & I have to say it was one of the poorest takeaway's we have ever had! All of the containers were only 2/3rds full, with very little meat in them. The two main courses were totally different meals, but tasted the same. The Tikka 'lamb'? in the starter was the toughest meat I have ever eaten! - In short "I would in no way recommend this Restaurant for Takeaway food", as it was without doubt, one of the worst one's we have used!

We have been using this restaurant for our takeaways for years and I'd just like to mention how brilliant the service and food are.Unlike a lot of local restaurants(especially Indian)the standard of service is excellent,orders are always ready on time and you always get what you ordered(sounds bizarre but ordering from other Indian restaurants in Low Fell is a takeaway Russian roulette).Great authentic Indian food,always tasty and piping hot,try it.

I use monsoon quite frequently as apart from the food being excellent quality, the staff are all very friendly and always give me a warm welcome . . They are also very helpful when I am undecided by the vast menu ...As you enter through the door the bar is in front of you with bar stools, so when u are perusing the menu you can relax with a drink . The food is always pipping hot when I open it back home...def the best indian restaurant that I have ever been. Teri

Can I say first that this restaurant 's correct address is Low Fell Gateshead Tyne and wear England.Not Newcastle or Northern Ireland.My husband and I have been visiting this restaurant regularly for past 16 years.We have never been disappointed with the service or the excellent cuisine.It was refurbished about 18 months ago.It is now light and modern and lost the old fashioned flock paper indian style.They also do very popular take away.We prefer to visit the restaurant.The waiters always treat you like friends.It' a wonderful place to eat

This is by far the best Indian restaurant I have ever eaten at. I have been here countless times and tried many different dishes on the menu, all of which are faultless. It isn't to overpriced and the decor is very authentic and welcoming. My favourite is the chicken pakoras and the chicken tikka masala which I feel is second to none. I have been to many Indian restaurants and I feel this is the nicest one in Gateshead and the surrounding areas also. No complaints and would recommend it to all! Lovely!!

Myself and partner went to this restaurant with another two couples on Saturday. We hadnt booked so we were pleased they had room to fit us in. The atmosphere was good and the food superb. we did have to wait a little longer than ususal for our meal but it was worth it.
