I decided today that I want something more exciting for lunch apart from my bland chicken sandwich and 2 apples. I came out of the office and walked across the bus way and saw a colleague of mine standing at the bus stop having some fresh air. He asked where I was going, so I told him that I was looking to go somewhere for a sandwich for lunch. He suggested Co-op or Iceland, but then he said that I should go into Monk's delicatessen. He said he had some great sandwiches from there and their ingredients were very fresh and the manager frequently gave him the end of the ham, saying that it would be too stringy to put through the slicer. I decided to go to Monk's on his recommendation. The staff were very warm znd welcoming and were very attentive when I mentioned my dairy intolerance. They ran me down the ingredients they used to fill the sandwiches and there were many meats, cheeses and extensive salad ingredients too. The staff told me what had milk products in and what didn't. I chose brown bread, 3 types salami, roast ham and all of the salad. I also selected an Oasis summer fruits bottle. It all came to £6.20. My colleague said that the costs would be comparable with Co-op or Iceland sandwiches. I thought on average the price was slightly more expensive. However, the price of the sandwich was only £5 and matched the freshness of ingredients and was very filling. The saltiness of the ham and the spiciness of the chorizo complimented each other with the freshness of the salad ingredients which cut through the smokiness of the meat. It was incredible value compared to the packaged sandwiches of the other local shops. The sandwich was 'fit' and 'to die for' as I described it back to my colleagues in the office. From the first bite to the last, the freshness of ingredients and the smokiness and spiciness of the meats were delightful and certainly did more than fill the void in my stomach that normally my bland chicken sandwich did. Incredibly friendly and attentive staff and beautiful hand made fresh sandwiches which I definitely would return if I needed a tasty sandwich for lunch. Thank you very much and keep on making!

I come here for my sliced cooked meats when I want a treat, takes me back to my childhood when my Gran would take me with her to her local deli. It is a little expensive ( sorry) but I don't mind paying more for quality freshness home made and for a small business to thrive. This is a place I visit when I want something a bit special and the home made pies selections of cheeses are amazing. I appreciate small places of quality like this are not easy to come by and I think it has a special touch, I am a foodie so it was like a hidden cave of surprises.

We always come here for our meat pies they are so so nice every time we are not disappointed the taste is always the same would definitely recommend the pies 👅

Always use monks as their food is amazing quality and fresh, However is it a requirement for their staff to be so rude and snotty to the customers?

It's a lovely shop with quality foods. They make great Sandwiches. My favourite are the meat pies also have a wonderful selection of cheeses and meats. Very helpful staff that you only get in shops like Monks.

This business has been top of the tree for years. If you want the best, this is the place for you.. This business has been established for many many years. Their produce is fresh & tasty. The owner is always around personally, & his staff can't do enough for you. The service is top class. Get yourself down there & try out the "goodies" .......you will be back.

I went with my daughter to buy lunch and I was really spoiled for choice. We ended up with a pasta box and it was delicious.

Fresh quality ingredients No where else in the old town does great butties like this. Sometimes a que but well worth the wait for lunch fix just wish they did more fresh cakes

Really enjoyed the cheese and onion pasty's plenty of good tasty filling, the seasonal pork pies with stuffing and cranberry topping are my absolute favourite. The steak pies are great and are the only ones I will eat.

I always get my local honey here. It's supposed to help allergies like hay fever, so I have heard. The cooked meats always look amazing.

My wife and I always pop in here when down the Old Town, either to get a lovely salad box or usually for the Hungarian Salami and some nice cheeses. Richard and the girls are always a pleasure to talk to and nothng is too much trouble. They now recognise us now as we are there so much :). They have much on offer and we always end up buying something extra than we went in for! Excellent service, great staff and superb food. Well recommended.

A long established business which has always had great quality and choice, well worth a visit. As well as the everyday items of raw and cooked meats, pies etc. they also stock lots of other speciality items that you don't find in your local supermarket. On top of that you get service with a smile and recommendations should you need it, great customer service.

Lovely store in the town centre of Runcorn packed with high quality goods with many from nationwide independent producers covering numerous cheeses, cooked meats, pies, cakes, biscuits, yoghurts (my favourite as they're natural additive free!) and a large selection of bottled drinks such as cloudy lemonade, ginger beers and many more. Always worth calling in for a treat!

A gem of a shop in the small town of Runcorn packed with high quality products not seen in too many of the general high street stores. In fact a lot of the items are from smaller independent traders and are mostly seen at the ever popular Farmers Markets around the region. The quality of the cooked meats; whilst a little more expensive than supermarkets, is amazing with a selection of beautiful hams. Well worth a visit and a treat of one of the locally produced pies, but get there early!

This is the best deli in this area, great selection of products, and the best sausages from Cowards. They have so many different cheeses to chose from . The staff are so helpful its a pleasure to shop there.

Monks deli has been in runcorn for many years and you can understand why. Plenty of choice and an excellent standard of fresh produce, eg cooked meats, cheese, pies, etc. The freshly made sandwiches and salads are lovely too.

Great Deli with lots of fresh produce including Cheshire Potatoes when in season. The Sandwich bar is gorgeous with a great menu! Best sandwich place in Runcorn Old Town ❤️

Probably the best for quality in what is Runcorn Old Town Customer service is an important and paramount whilst commenting on any experience weather it be travel, flights, hotels, restaurants or the local delicatessen. Yeah we would recommend for quality and service, Respect

Shop has been here years and years. Lovely and clean, friendly staff and always have lovely fresh food and deli goods available . Pies are my favourite too. Little more expensive that th supermarkets but hey what price home made quality and freshness. Recommended shop.

While it has moved premises it is a well established Deli in Runcorn providing an excellent service to the people of Runcorn and surrounding area.

Richard and the staff serve the best deli food around. Nothing is too much trouble. I quite often order a plate of sandwiches for a meeting I attend and have never been let down, kept waiting or been disappointed with the quality.

This is one of the best shops in Runcorn but not many people outside the old town seem to know about it. Lovely choice of hand sliced meats, deli cheeses and specialty foods. Sandwiches and salads made to order and always lovely and fresh. Also stocks cowards pies and lots of lovely fresh pressed juices.

Got a weekly order here for tomato sausages. According to my hubby and son they're delicious! It's a really nice shop, the staff are very polite and friendly! So do yourself a favour and try this shop. Supermarkets maybe handy for getting all your shopping in one place but for taste and flavour try something from this great delicatessen!

Visited monks again to pick up some of their lovely pies. However, I noticed staff were serving food with their hands and not wearing gloves or using tongs. Surely if they are also handling money there is a risk of contamination. Not what I expected from a high end establishment.

The sandwiches are sublime. Real quality and always freshly made.The cooked meats are fab and again of a superior quality.With a really good range of pickles and relishes.Great service and although a bit pricey it it worth every penny.

This little Deli in Runcorn Old Town is a hidden gem. The food they sell is exceptional and reasonably priced and the Staff are so friendly. I would recommend this place for Sandwiches,Pies etc.

There's lots of choice in this small deli which includes cooked and cured meats, cheeses, bacon, local bakery produce and a good variety of freshly made sandwiches and rolls made to order. It's well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Dropped in here on the recommendation off a frien.. He said the pies we're worth the trip...he wasn't wrong. I bought the steak and ale pie and a truly delicious pork and black pudding pie. Both we're covered in melt-in-the-mouth pastry and full of proper chunks of meat, not the minced rubbish you usually find in mass produced products. They also had some lovely cheeses which I am planning to try on my next visit because I will definitely be going back.

Richard Monk, runs a happy ship, the staff are friendly and helpful. This Deli stocks the best meats, pies, quiche, unusual cheeses, pickles and an array of specialty sausages. Their sandwich/salad bar is a healthy alternative to pie & chips on a sunny day. If for no other reason for a visit, try a 'Cowards Steak Pie', rated the best meat pies in the country!

This is a lovely little shop and an unexpected find in Runcorn. It sells things that you possibly won't find at the nearby supermarket. A little on the expensive side maybe, but great for a treat.

I stumbled across this place as I visited Runcorn old town. I had been looking for gruyère cheese and popped in to see if they had it. They didn't but the very helpful gentleman behind the counter was able to recommend a French cheese instead, which was similar in flavour. He let me try a few little pieces which many places wouldn't let you do. That impressed me as you are more likely to purchase something if you can sample it than if you don't know what it tastes like. His recommendation was spot on, so much so that my husband commented that it was actually nicer than gruyère. The shop also makes lovely fresh sandwiches to order, they sell homemade relishes and pickles, which would go lovely with a cheese board. This shop is a hidden gem and given how few decent shops are in the Old Town nowadays, this is one that is worth a visit.

This shop is the only shop I know of that sells beef pies which I prefer to pork pies you have to go early as they sell out fast .

Ok , many readers will never have heard of Cowards Butchers of Frodsham in Cheshire. They have several bustling businesses in Frodsham but the main butchers shop often has a queue out of the shop and down the road.In my opinion not only do the have amazing fresh meat but the best product is their steak pie.Monks have a superb deli display of fresh hams and cheeses. They will also make you a fresh sandwich to order from quality ingredients. Behind their well stocked deli counter you will see a selection of pies. Yes there are lots of wonderful producers and varieties to wet your appetite. However, do stop by to see if they have a Cowards steak pie with your name on it.Enjoy.

If you want freshly made what ever you desire on your sandwich this is the place to go. They have range of breads a selection of delicious pies my personal favorite is the johnsons meat pie. They do huge selection of cheese and meat. Staff are very friendly and will definitely return next time I'm in the old time. This is down the side of the coop and opposite the new library. Its a place not to be missed..

Love this place whenever I walk past I have to go in. The range of cheeses and meat is excellent and the sandwiches are out of this world you can have any combo you want freshly made in front of you. The produce and pies are excellent well worth a visit.

My wife and I are regular customers to the deli and have been for many years. Their collection of cold meats are very good and are good value as are their conserves. All in all we both recommend Monks.

The food is fresh, whether it's from the deli counter or you're buying a sandwich. The cooked meats are always really nice and so is the bacon. They always have freshly baked pies from various local bakeries on offer. The shelves are always stacked with some 'different' foodstuff, that you wouldn't necessarily get from the supermarket too

Excellent deli with there meats and cheeses. Love there pies and sandwiches and so easy to find, set in the heart of Runcorn old town with small shops market and a few nice bars. The pies are to die for so be quick they run out every day.

I've been here several times and the service is good very clean and a great selection of fresh meats cheese pies etc. good quality slightly more expensive than the average shop but a much better quality and you pay for what you get.

Monks deli has been in Runcorn for many years and is well known in the area. They sell a wide variety of cold meats and quality cheeses. As well as a large selection of locally produced pies and pasties from quality butchers. They also do a wide selection of fresh made to order sandwiches and barms and baguettes. Their salad boxes are very popular with local workers who want a quick quality lunch box. You have to be quick thou as they sell out very quickly as everything is fresh every day . If you go in after one pm you'll be lucky to find a sausage roll or a slice of meat left . The staff are always helpful and very friendly
