Absolutely shocking food soggy chips so i took them back as it was my last 5quid and got s assluted by the chef physically cuts and bruises

Quite shocking how this take-away operates. Too many people taking orders, the confusion is unreal. You heard the phrase, "too many cooks"? That is exactly what is happening at this place. Some dishes are very nice, the curry is epic and I cannot fault it, so different from any other Chinese take-aways! I don't recommend any chicken or prawns, they have no idea how to cook them, way too hard, well over-cooked! I will continue to eat but I will choose my dishes very carefully. To sum up this take-away... Inconsistent dishes, poor communication, great service. I wouldn't dare recommend to friends as the chances are, they'll be disappointed.

We were a little surprised to see this was pretty much the only Chinese open, fancied some Chinese food and we ventured in for takeaway Food is absolutely terrible…. Only thing we could eat was the chips and the rice and because we were hungry. Chicken and beef tasted disgusting. The chicken tasted like beef and the beef like chicken. Just don’t waste your money!!!

I was slightly shocked to read some of these reviews. Luckily I have been ordering before I saw these reviews. I only came on to write a review as I think this chinese is mint. Food delicious, great vegan/vegetarians choices , food always hot and the delivery guys have been great 👍 Top marks from me. Big shout out to who ever does the salt and pepper tofu

Nearly Ordered frm here as our usual was shut, food usually costs exactly £20 frm our usual place... £33 frm here, I cancelled! :(

The food order was wrong there was hair in the food and the delivery driver nearly ran over my husband and I had to call police as was scared for our safety!

Had plenty of deliveries over the years from this takeaway but no more. Driver refused to deliver to door, made me come out into the street on crutches to collect two bags of food, sheer laziness. How are you supposed to get two bags of food upstairs on two crutches? Wont be using again and dont suggest paying by card if you do, at least with cash you can send them away after they hide outside for five minutes.

The service was so good and they were so polite when they delivered it it was super quick and the food was very hot.the food was so nice.

We ordered food and I’m really disappointed and disgusted from what we got we payed over £20 for rude service and staff and for the manger not to give our money back after we called and up and they said they would really disappointed I would 100% not recommend this place as it’s not worth your time absolutely disgusting.

I'm a student in Derby Uni and have found it hard to find a good Chinese takeout since leaving home. I would say Modern Cuisine is a pretty safe bet, it's got good chow mein, great veg spring rolls and you get a good portion of everything - however the rice is a little dull. Delivery is always on time or early which is great, however we've found sometimes the food can be a little cold in places, but we just put it in the microwave for a bit when it's been delivered so it's never a big issue. Doesn't quite deserve the 3 star rating.

We ordered through just eat and this was the first time we’ve used this restaurant. It was due at 5.25 but it arrived at 5, which was great. I think we ordered around 4.25. The meal was really nice, all hot and good quality. Our kids loved it! We got some free prawn crackers and cans of pop due to what we ordered. It was £2.50 delivery charge and 50p just eat fee which I thought was reasonable. It came to £31 for a family of 4 which I was happy with. My kids were really pleased with the fortune cookies! We will definitely order from here again. The ribs were great and all of the meals were tasty and well made.

Phoned through an order for collection, was ready 15mins later Had selection of starters and mains, all great flavour. First time we have tried this restaurant/takeaway but certainly will not be the last Ignore the 3 star rating and give it a try,my family all gave the food the thumbs up, oh and it’s not overly salty as some places can be, so well done Modern Cuisine you surpassed my expectations

Thought i’d lost all hope in takeaways in Derby being good... i ordered modern cuisine on deliveroo and it was so fresh- would 100% recommend all prawn dishes as they were cooked very well! Also came with fortune cookies which was a nice touch

Wonderful little Chinese restaurant and takeaway ive been using modern cuisine since it was called Michael lee many years ago the menu has something for all tastes staff are extremely friendly and helpful the place its self is very cosy and the deliveries are always on time piping hot and the delivery staff are always friendly by far the best Chinese restaurant this end of derby

Ordered from here for the first time on 5th Feb as our usual takeaway was closed. Was told it was a max wait of 50mins, We had to chase several times as the food was late- and was first of all told “Yeah, We’re really busy” I went to try and explain we was told 50mins but instead the man hung up on me. I left it a while before having to chase again to be told it was 15mins away. Anyway food ended up taking 1hr45min to arrive and with no appologies for the delay. As soon as we went to serve up we noticed the “free items” you get when you order over a certain amount we’re missing, so i gave them a call and said sorry but we’re missing these items too which i got a very rude “Well, They are free so you cant really moan” and then again was hung up on. The food was barely warm and was also bland... In honesty the food was awful but the service was even worse than that. So if your planning to order from here then i would honestly look else where to save you time and money! The lack of customer service from this place still grates on me!

Although delivery driver has a terrible attitude, went to the wrong address and complained that I was taking a while coming to him, pay for delivery and have to walk three streets across for my food 🤷🏻‍♂️ won’t be ordering again.

Was Looking forward to our weekly takeaway but was left very disappointed , usually order from another Chinese but thought of a change and went to modern cuisine because we use to order from here. NEVER AGAIN, stick with what you know I would say, Women on the phone didn’t seem to know what she was doing had to repeat order a few times and wasn’t very confident on what actually was going to come, order meant to take 35 minutes but took an hour and 25 minutes after a few phone-calls of chasing to see where the order was. Worst of it all the food came cold and was tasteless. Very disappointed and honestly wouldn’t bother again!

The meal I ordered yesterday was delicious and fresh. Home delivery is also very fast and highly recommended.

This is what I was given when asked for a chicken chow main. It’s all watery with 0% flavour. When asked for my money back, they told me no. I know it’s only £5.80 but I am a student and that is a lot to me. NEVER GO THERE

Usually order from Modern Cuisine and it’s always been ok with speedy service. Ordered tonight for my aunt who’s visiting from London. Waited over 1.5 hours for food, when it arrived all the food was cold and the chips completely inedible.

Food is good, but nothing special. Tastes just as good as the average Chinese. Gave us a few extra bits with what we ordered. Highly recommend beef in black bean sauce.

Food delivered completely inedible. Crispy shredded beef tasted like dry dog biscuits. Seaweed covered in sugar & not crispy! A whole crab stick chucked in the crab & sweetcorn soup. Tasted & had the consistency of wall paper paste. So upset and disappointed. The chefs response is that was how he cooks it. Awful. Called for a refund but the manager wasn’t in so have escalated a complaint for a refund in full.

We were hungry one night and it was getting late so we thought we'll order a Chinese takeaway. Ordered online, was told there would be a 45 minute to an hour wait. Was pleasantly surprised by the speed at which they delivered (approximately 30 minutes?)

Food was horrible, chicken curry had no taste to it at all, chips didn't taste cooked and the shredded chicken chicken was all batter and no chicken. Rang up to speak about it as it cost me £25 and was vile and the service was just as bad as the food. Didn't help us at all. Will never visit again, terrible food and even worse service.

Have visited several times for a Take Out for myself, my daughter and her University friends. Always received very polite,quick service and excellent quality food. Prices are so reasonable and quantities more than adequate...love this place!

The tables are covered with plastic, the decor is chintzy Chinese, but oh boy; the food is wonderful. The dishes are plentiful and represent great value for money.

Decided to try a different take away, wished we hadnt bothered, food was very bland, not flavour at all, chicken was boiled and chewy, wont be using again.

Ordered as our usual one was closed the food was really tasty and they arrived with it really quickly will be changing our takeaway from now on thanks guys

Fue nuestra comida china pero de calidad regular se ha convertido en horrible! Pedimos la comida feliz que es £9 y patatas fritas, el pollo se ha convertido en tremendamente duro y los gustos salsa dulce y agria como lavaplatos líquido! Patatas fritas parecía que había sido fritos 3 veces tan decepcionante como la comida solía ser encantador!

De la cercanía de este lugar pude escoger unos de otros 3 chinos sin embargo el último ser comprada. Los precios son por el mismo, así que decidimos comer allí. La decoración es agradable, con un toque de cliché oriental. Tenía los fideos con carne, huevo y Salsa de pollo y black bean. Muy bonito, pero con la salsa de alubias negras sabía más como China barbacoa. Las tostadas de gambas era delicioso y más gruesos de lo habitual lo único malo es la coca-cola plana y los fideos eran el tipo de finas.

The meal was super delicious and good price with quality. Although the restaurant is not too big . It is good for meeting with friends there for long hours sitting.

You feel guilty enough when you decide to get a take away on the way home. Not a good take away - chewy prawn crackers, warm food, but the vegetables did seem fresh. Good meal deal. Fast snd friendly service. My usual (Hong Kong) was closed because it was Monday. Decor needs to improve too.

I was incredibly disappointed with the quality of the food. i had chicken fried rice and a chicken chow mien with Banana fritters. the Chicken wasn't completely cooked and could tell it was cooked straight from being frozen. Secondly, the rice was hard and not eatable and thirdly the the fritter itself just didn't taste very nice. I have wasted my money as over half of the food was thrown away

not really impressed, ordered a VEGETARIAN platter and there were two meat skewers instead of vegetable. Also made a small request to change the seaweed to prawn toast and this was ignored. Not great customer service

Food never arrived, didn't answer the phone after calling several times. Never had this issue before with this restaurant.

We were regular customers and have not ordered for a while. Tonight, 15/04/2016, we ordered and although delivery was quick as usual, the food quality has deteriorated. The crispy shredded beef was delicious as always but the portion size has almost halved. The sweet and sour king Prawns was breaded I ordered it as I didn't want a dish which was breaded. When I ordered the sweet and sour chicken about two months ago that too was breaded. I am very disappointed. I used to highly recommend this as a Chinese take away to friends.Perhaps a description of each dish on the menu would be helpful. In future, I think I'll be making my own dinner when the boys order in.

Arrived early but the rice wasn't as good as usual, everything else was lovely and good value!

Food was overly greasy, and of poor quality. Not value for money!! Food did arrive very fast though and the delivery driver very polite.

Absolutely terrible service, after 1 1/2 hours still no sign of any food, called the restaurant only to find out they hadn't even cooked it yet because they were too busy in the restaurant - don't order from here if you plan to eat on the same day that you order.

The food was rather poor quality, chicken balls raw inside, all food was fried in old fat.Prawn ckrakers was yellow from old fat and stinks horribly.Interior decor resembles milk bar from Eastern Europe of the 80, oilcloth on the tables ... probably good enough for a drunken late wanderer ?Delivery bang on time!Monica

Delivery took a while - almost an hour, but then it was Derby v Man Utd on.

Food wasn't amazing but it wasnt bad, delivery was Ace and prices are decent.

Absolutely delicious. The best Prawn Toast in derby. Thoroughly enjoyed. My dad and I were immensely impressed with the time the food was delivered and the quality was second to none!!! Thank you for a good service and hot food!
