Mockbeggar Hall in Wirral

Spot on,good service with great prices. Why are they selling such a popular pub. It was bad enough selling the gold mine that was New Brighton,are they losing the plot. The Mockbeggar is always busy compared with the other pubs in Moreton. They will live to regret this silly decision. Thank you Mockbeggar for all the happy memories over the years.

Had a chicken skinny burger with salad and my friend had chicken skinny burger with chips.The chicken was so tough and dry, couldn't believe how bad it was.Spoke to a member of staff which basically fell on deaf ears.The member of staff asked if I'd paid on card or cash (cash) and that was it . Nothing else said, no apologies, nothing.Would definitely not eat there again, and it wasn't exactly cheap either.

Our second attempt at having lunch there, didn't get any better.....few weeks ago we ordered food only to be told they didn't have the products in that ordered.....bar staff handed my partner a cloth to wipe down the table REALLY!!!! Was there today, waited ages for our food, when it arrived was wrong order....both our chips were well over cooked even the manager said the cooking oil needs replacing and he was embarressed with the food.We was refunded our money but still left there hungry.Won't ever go there again...not even for drinks, lots of tables left dirty not the bar staffs fault because they're run off their feet with it being busy.Shame really because mist Wethers are spot on.

Got order wrong tables not cleared table we at sticky waited about 20 mins disabled toilet seat cracked needs refurbing

Staff run off feet tables not cleaned piled up with dishes not very hot had to use paper cups as proper ones needed washing really gone down in my estamation

35 minute wait for food and place not that busy for a Sunday afternoon. Increased prices and smaller portions of food. Served an exceptionally small piece of fish, chips, peas, curry sauce, pint of pop for £8+ . No longer value for money anymore and won’t return for food.

Awful. I ordered eggs benedict with a sausage and a large breakfast. 35 minutes later it arrived with no sausage with the eggs. The breakfast was anything but large, the bacon was so burned it was inedible, by this time I'd had enough, 14 quid lighter and starving, we went to the little cafe on the strip in Upton, great food and fun people. 8 minutes from ordering to eating

Yet again, told the kitchen was shut, no kitchen staff have turned in. This seems to happen at least twice a month. I think the guy due on today may have a drink problem. I've seen him before, (or not)...and always looks hungover. I won't bother again

I came in on a Saturday lunchtime to find it somewhat busy. I suppose quiet for a Saturday. For now... By about 6 the staff were rushed off their feet. The poor people were short-staffed because of covid. But the two bar staff (Rachel and Ben) still did their jobs extremely professionally and still delivered great service. We ordered food which came in about 9 minutes. Good considering the rush. Nice, Tasty and Warm. Overall, an exceptional visit :)

nice food .... shame who ever is whistling all the time in the kitchen is really annoying especially people go for a quiet drink or meal ... and especially people who are DEAF wearing HEARING AIDS 😡

Having promised myself a breakfast at Wetherspoons I was disappointed when it arrived to find it was warmer sitting at the table than the breakfast itself Gave me thought that it had been pre ordered and left in the kitchen for the next customer to order Won’t be getting my custom again

My son and I decided last minute to pop to ‘Spoons for our tea, hoping it wouldn’t be too busy. It wasn’t. There was plenty of space and free tables with just a nice atmosphere in the background. We received a friendly smiley welcome on arrival and the staff continued to check on us and ensure we were happy. Our food was delicious and hot and looked really appetising. We were enjoying ourselves so much, we had another drink and a pudding. All brought to us by absolutely lovely staff. Such a relaxing evening and certainly didn’t cosy the earth. Thanks to the Mockbegger Hall for looking after us so well😊😊😊

Went for tea not much choice as certain things not working not the first time its happened my meal look like it been chucked on plate daughter had pizza burnt on edges bit doughy the only meal that was ok was husbands

When you visit a 'Spoons, you expect that 'chain pub service', but this place falls well before expectations. Grubby surroundings, sticky tables and staff that don't care. Food is poor and you're lucky if you get cutlery. Avoid if you can.

Turned up for steak night being advertised at £7:05. Tried to order through the app but came up at £10:75. So instead went to the bar to order. Came up same price. I asked how come it was that price when the steak night is advertised at £7:05. She said that that’s the price. And said the manager had told them that’s the price today. But she asked some other young woman. She said that’s the price the price advertised on the menu was wrong and she can take the menus off. She had no intention of doing it. If so there would have been other complaints earlier and would have taken them off. I just said I’d leave it. I should have proceeded with the order and the payment because at that point she would have committed an offence of wrongful advertising. Either way 2 disgruntled people left the pub. I’m sure there will have been loads more. I can’t believe people who run pubs and the staff are in complete ignorance of THE LAW.

We had three meals and they were dreadful. Really the worst meals ever but they were kind and refunded our money.

Today we went with a family of 7, sat at 2 tables which were all very well set out, however when it came to ordering food we were told there were no burger buns, no cheese and no pizzas so we had to compromise which wasn’t a problem for us. When the food came the tuna sandwich smelt absolutely awful and was clearly off, the young waiter was so lovely and said he would go and tell the manager, she then stormed past our table shouting that it’s not off as it’s from a packet!!! No apologies etc she was sooooo rude, the young lad couldn’t apologise enough which he didn’t have to. They also had no tomatoe sauce or mayonnaise so we ran over the toad to buy some and seems it’s fish and chip Friday how many people are going to ask for tomato sauce!!!! I think the manager should have at least put up signs to let customers know that most items on the menu were unavailable to save all the messing about. She was an absolute disgrace and should not be managing anything. All the young bar staff were brilliant but it’s not fair that they are taking the brunt of this.

Occasionally we go in here for a drink (only because it’s much cheaper than the other local pubs). Every time we go in the tables are filthy and covered with glasses and dishes, when they are cleaned it’s with a filthy dishcloth and all the debris on the table flies out everywhere. But on Saturday lunchtime it hit a all time low, the male chef went passed us to go upstairs and his uniform was FILTHY. There was stains all over the top and bottoms, looked like they had been on for a week. Will definitely not be eating in there ant time soon. Also every time we go in there is hardly any staff behind the bar, which probably goes towards keeping costs down but is very frustrating.

the food I had was terrible it was not all cooked the steak was raw in middle could not cut it with a steak knife the mushroom was raw the rest was dry u could not eat it I sent it back I opened the butter that had been put in baked potato and it was like water it ran out and all over me had to go home and wash my clothing the place is terrible and staff just ignore u never again

Decided to pop out for breakfast to my local wetherspoons on my own as no kids and wifes in work. As I walked in all the tables where not clear so I found a spot and ordered my large breakfast and unlimited coffee on the wetherspoons app.A young girl delivered my cup very sharpish which was good, I asked if she could clear the table and she did. I waited for about 10 mins and she must of forgot to clean the table as it was disgusting , so I proceeded to get my own cloth and sanitizer and do it myself. My breakfast was delivered shortly after , well I'm afraid it was as depressing as the person who delivered it(happy face would be nice) the eggs looked like they have been under a heat lamp for about a yearThe black pudding was the same, solid .Overall a very sad experience. I did notice the staffing levels where very low and the place was very busy but this is no excuse for basic food service and hygiene. There was no check back on the food , but she did ask later on when collecting my plate if everything was ok, but I was that depressed with the whole experience I didnt have the heart to say no. So I wrote this review instead. The price increase on the breakfast was noticed , approx £7 with unlimited coffeeI wouldn't mind if the breakfast and service was good.

Usually breakfast regulars, we went , pre holiday , to our Very busy local “ Spoons “ at teatime ,Friday 26th of May to “eat light” and have a drink.We enjoyed chicken wraps and delicious fresh salad. Many thanks to the lovely young bar man who asked if I was ok and finished my drinks order,to our table server who was great and to the manager who came twice to our table. Lovely people , totally professional and great customer service from all three.

Thought I'd treat my 12 year old son to breakfast in wetherspoons moreton. Took ages to get served, ordered 2 small breakfasts.without hash briwns food arrived was scrambled egg.. didn't ask for it, fairly cold and had hash browns! Wouldn5 go again, spend your money elsewhere on a proper breakfast.

Breakfast was good, nothing spectacular but it was still nice. Coffee is great value. Just always seems a little bit dirty but it was still a nice experience

i think it only fair to give a good opinion of this bar as it has improved %100 after me complaining of dirty tables and general sleaziness of the place but within days there was a change of policy,i dont know whether it was my complaint or change of boss or policy,but whatever it was keep it up

A really Good place to eat and drink. Very cheap prices, amazing real ales. Nice friendly staff. Would highly recommend! 😁

Dropped in for drinks staff were friendly and prices were good pitchers do have far to much ice but guess that’s standard other than that great experience.

Nice staff and food as expected in a Wetherspoons. Note to whoever cleans the toilets - you need to clean more than the seat. Gross!

Tables slow to be cleared from previous customers. Not many meals finished should have been an indication for us. Meals were not good, chicken was dry and poor quality, veg curry only average, garlic naan bread was just a plain naan smeared with garlic butter ( at extra cost ) , side of chips were tepid at best , at no time did a member of staff ask if everything was ok with the meal. Overall a pretty disappointing visit, and the carpets also looked in badly need of replacing. Tables had not been wiped prior to our meal arriving either. 2** is being generous.

Very much a locals bar. Good crowd in, bit rowdy but a decent enough atmosphere. Staff OK, and as always, decent drinks menu at good prices. Fair walk from the train station.

I have been visiting here for years but have had enough.

I came to my 'local' for a pint. I ordered a pint of ASCOT and recieved a FOSTERS.. when i said i didnt order this. Somehow it was my fault. Even though i stated ' i ordered Ascot and said it clearly' it was all my fault. Not everyone drinks FOSTERS. Tip: switch off autopilot we dont all get drunk!!...plus clean your ears. Wetherspoons needs barstaff with manners. Never again

I visited here one evening with my son. We eventually found a table which didn't have someone else's dirty plates and glasses on it and Sat down. Everything was gross and sticky and dirty. My son stuck to the table and had to peel his arms off it. The menus were the same. Stuck down and filthy. When I went to order at the bar it was the same. Spilt drinks just left unwiped. Nothing a bucket of hot soapy water wouldn't have cured. The whole place looked grubby and neglected. The food was fine, we've never had a problem there but basic hygiene is an issue. It really put us off going again.

We usually prefer Hoylake Wetherspoons but being in the throws of a house move ,we opted to stay local for reasons of exhaustion, fully expecting the below standard food we ate on our last Spoons Curry night in Moreton—-3 yrs ago!!! Breakfast in Moreton is just fine but evening eating not so good!!! Well , we are pleased to say the standard tonight was at least as good as Hoylake, Tewksbury, Exeter etc. Thoroughly enjoyable foodPerhaps the cheery young lady bar server could share best practice with her bar colleague!,

Have not had a weathers breakfast for ages, great value for money an plenty of food for £5 with the best thing the coffee, free refills of my fav coffee lavazza. Will be going again just for the coffee!! If you don’t want breakfast you can get any coffee lavazza for £1.05 with as many refills as you want....or an early pint!!!

Went here for a breakfast with my brother, the breakfast was ok. When it came to using the coffee machine which is always running out, the guy behind the bar (grey hair, possible manager) hadnt a clue or wasnt bothered. I told him about the machine, by the time he sorted it we had our breakfasts. Its not as if he was busy either. He spent most of his time avoiding sorting it out. He just pressed buttons for half an hour like he was playing a fruit machine!!..never again

After our Christmas meal disaster our friends complained and all 4 of us were invited back for a free meal and a drink.I have to say the service the meals excellent the staff very good.Will have to again to see if this is the way it is always done the service and food.On yesterday’s visit superb no complaints at all

Been here a few times now, cos the brass balance went crap and the best one, the john laird was closed down, food is lots better than the balance, and the staff are cool too ! Back next week 😁

Well not my first choice of Wetherspoon I have to say, but needs must....I asked for the Turkey with Winter vegetables, "didn't have any turkey" was the reply, despite leaflets all over the tables, it was a Tuesday, Steak Club but no leaflets for this on the tables although they were available.

The food is reasonably priced. You get what you pay for. We went on Wednesday which is Chicken Night and I must say it was very good. The salad was a bit limp and on the small side which it always is. If you looking for a quick tea time meal thats cheap and does the job then here is the place to go. It could do with a bit of a refurbishment as its looking a bit tatty now. Toilets are not always clean even though they say they are checked every hour.

First time I've visited this establishment and things didn't get off to a good start when they said they had no record of our booking. No worries, the stand-in manageress sorted a table for 10 in no time at all.Despite our initial disappointment at there being no 14oz steak, I ordered the Empire State Burger. At just over £15 for 2 mains & 2 pints of Pepsi it was great value for money. No sooner had we ordered our food, it was served in no time at all. The food was delicious and put other establishments where I've paid over double to shame. The staff were very friendly, efficient and courteous and nothing was too much trouble for them.Despite my initial scepticism, (you get what you pay for) I can't praise the food or the staff highly enough.Would I go again? Me and a mate went for a catch up known each other 30+ years we always pop in here for a breakfast wrap and a couple of mugs of coffee every couple of weeks well priced and very nice too well worth a visit staff very friendly too

Value breakfast £3.30 not bad for the money, fried egg, bacon, sausage, has browns, grilled tomato, beans and toast but disappointed to be amongst early morning beer drinkers when you have children with you.

A quick visit to Moreton with my husband and only visited once before with my daughter as we don't live in the area.Just needed a quick snack not lunch and had a cheese and ham toastie with salad.Cant complain about quality,salad very fresh and not iceberg lettuce.Husband should have ordered paninis but the young man was so helpful and wanted to change order.As it was my husbands fault we gladly kept what we had and very reasonable price too.Well done to young man who served us yesterday.Didnt get his name

A decent lunch with some very fine beer. We went for the currys as they were on offer. They were good, tasty and served quite quickly. There were a number of guest beers and these were very good. Overall a very good meal, I will be back.

The food is average and the service ok. If you hungry and want something fast this is the place for you. The food is acceptable and the ham and cheese toasty I had with a salad was very nice, plenty of ham and the cheese was ok too. The salad not that good, bit wilted as if it been out a long time or under heat lamps.

You know what to expect when you go into a JDW. This is a clean airy pub, mixed age groups and cheap beer. Nice pleasant evening. Football on the TV.

Pub was very busy. Group of 10 adults ordered food which arrived quite quickly. All happy with what we got, no complaints other they'd missed an item of food of one breakfast which was quickly rectified.

This is a Wetherspoons pub so you know what to expect. Reasonable food and portions. Service can be mixed depending on the mood of the staff. Happy to go back.

I think its lost its umph they serve anemic toast with breaky its untidy needs refurbishing no black pudding

Visiting home and mother took us here for lunch. Plenty of space and child friendly with high chairs. The food and booze is what you'll normally expect from a weatherspoons. The reason for the high mark was the staff. A great team, really helpful and willing to go that extra step to make you welcome.

Staff are really helpful and friendly. The food is really nice and really well priced. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We come here a lot and will continue to do so! Thanks for the wonderful service which hasn't decreased since we're regulars! Cheers team!

Cheap and cheerful, bar staff friendly and food was good as a quick cheap eat while out shopping, however baby needed a nappy changing so had to go into downstairs loo. It was very dirty, floor was soaking wet and stunk of urine. I held my breath and got out quick. If the loo had been cleaner I'd have rated it higher but it's put me off going back

Although the staff where very friendly this place was extremely dirty.Had to wash down our own table as it was filthy and sticky.One of the straws from the bar was clogged up with dust and dirt which was not notice until it was too late, completely disgusting. Clearly indicates the lack of cleanliness of the place in question. The food was not very hot, the burger was greasy and far below Weatherspoon standards.Mostly full of drunks also, not a pleasant place for couples or families.Would not even consider returning to this poor place.

Food was nice. Only had a breakfast but was really nice and staff were friendly.Was uiet busy in there and food was sent out fast and hot.

Visiting my family who are locals and frequently visit this particular wetherspoons for food, we were unfortunately disappointed with this particular meal. After asking one of the bar staff if there was a Sunday lunch available I was given a very snappy "no" as a response before she then walked away. We then found something alternative on the menu - one of us had the brunch as a half portion which was charged at full price. Another of us had a vegetarian burger but asked to ensure it was also vegan and was told that the bread contains dairy - a bit worrying. Another person then ordered nachos and asked specifically if there were chilli's on it to which they were told yes there would be, only to find when it came that the kitchen had ran out of them and was just given more salsa as an alternative. Although all meals came with a drink included none were offered, we had to prompt it each time.

I often go here in the day with my laptop and do some work. As there's no music, it's a laid back relaxed atmosphere, the regulars enjoy themselves, the staff are great and the food and drink is always very good. Keep up the good work!

Went for curry club food was very disappointing. Waited about 40 mins for a watery flavourless curry, rice all stuck together and burnt. Stale hard Naan bread and burnt poppadoms. I know you get what you pay for but wouldn't even feed that to my dog.

Obviously not gourmet etc but for a catch up with friends it met the criteria. Reasonably priced also the drinks to and the staff couldn't be friendlier. If your passing give it a go...

I had a breakfast here today it was cooked to perfection...and I had a coffee it was also very nice, breakfast includes chips good price as well......defo be back for more keep up the good work.

Been here a few times as its local never had a problem until last week an the food was awful asked for extra cheese sauce for the Philly cheese steak sandwich an got a pot of cheese that had been put in the microwave an was swimming in oil the steak looked like it had been left for days it was more like beef jerky, when asked the staff to change the sauce the staff were rude, unapproachable and awkward the manager I don't know if he knows how his staff treat customers but something needs to be said. I also wrote a complaint to wetherspoons on their sight an have had no reply so I am writing it on this! I would not advice anyone to go here which is a shame as I said I have been here a few times as it is local but I was disgusted last time I came here!

A typical town pub a little noisy but clean and well locked after. Wats you come to expect from weather spoons plus its only 5 min from my mums

This is a pub which serves great food at great prices with great care taken in its presentation. All the Staff my daughter and I have encounter have been so friendly, efficient and helpful.Never had an unsatisfactory visit so can highly recommend 'The Mockbeggar', Moreton. Wirral.Cliff

Food here is very hit and miss. We had a lovely Christmas dinner one week and the following week we had a Sunday dinner which just happened to be Turkey and it was awful. The veg weren't even cooked they were rock hard and cold. Girl came to clear the plates and asked if all was OK so I told her about the veg and she just said she would tell the kitchen. We have been in to eat since and think you just lucky who is in the kitchen as to what the food is like.

We drink there on a regular basis more fool us. Went today Sunday 22.11.15 & it was warmer outside than inside. The management dont care as long as there are customers. Today we took the temp it was 14.8 degrees. The staff are not allowed to wear warm cloths, the customer didn't take their coats off. DONT BOTHER TO GO THERE it's not worth it. Can't complain about the staff they are brilliant.

went to visit an old friend and we took a trip down memory lane by drinking in our old favourites.This place is pretty old now. I remember when it opened. Not much has changed. Cheap ale, quick service and the same old faces.The place could do with a good scrub but I enjoyed my drinks here and catching up.

Always have a breakfast wrap, bacon sausage egg and hash brown in a wrap delicious! Toast also good and a big slice! Only thing I don't like now is when you order tea/coffee you have to help yourself to milk from a jug, much preferred it when the drinks came with a little jug on the side , bring this back wetherspoons!

as one of the Wetherspoons' chain, the food is good and reasonably priced. However, as the pub layout is a long rectangle, the eating and 'bar' areas are very near each other which can make for a bit of noise (depending upon the clientele of course)

My hubby and I eat here from time to time and have had two disappointing visits recently. The first visit was a few weeks ago for breakfast and my eggs benedict was served with rock hard poached eggs. Upon sending it back the second attempt was no better but we had somewhere to be so I had to eat it. No offer of any recompense by the waiting staff although I did get an apology.The second visit was tonight when hubby and I both ordered the pulled pork burrito. The burrito was served luke warm and was missing the chills that are supposed to accompany the dish. On pointing the missing chillies to the waitress she went to the kitchen and on her return advised that they haven't had any chillies all day. I suggested they it would be helpful if staff could advise customers of missing ingredients on ordering so that an alternative decision could be made. Her response was that it would be nice if she was told about missing items. She seemed more put out that she hadn't been advised than about the fact paying customers hadn't. All in all, disappointed in both the food and the service. P.S. Am still waiting for a response from the Wetherspoons customer service team in relation to my first complaint....

This is a lovely and friendliest place 2 socialise. Great food an service. The staff r polite, friendli, helpful. The food is extempore an @ a very gud price along with a drink. A great place 2 go with family and friends. And in Darren and Sam great management team who always are there to help an chat 2 customers. So cum along and try the place out and c 4 yersel ow lovely the place is.Peter.

We visit here with out young family. Would prefer that the family seating area wasnt near the smoking area as when people go in and out they bring the smell with them! Food is often slow to arrive but is edible 9 times out of 10.

I know what people say about Wetherspoons, but this is the best one I have been in. It has even become my local. The place has a good local atmosphere. We eat in here every so often and a nicely satisfied.

The problem with this Wetherspoons is lack of good management. Trying to get served at the bar is an ordeal. Bar staff spend more time gossiping with customers than trying to provide anything remotely regarded as 'customer service'. Needs a management shake-up! I get the impression that I am there for the bar staff not they for me. Usually find the indolence and arrogance of the staff results in my walking out and taking my custom elsewhere. No shortage of alternative places in the area who seem to appreciate my patronage!

Not a bad visit cheap for a little lunch whilst grabbing some shopping! One young girl behind the bar was brilliant nothing was to much trouble for her! Food was ok nothing fantastic but for £11 including drinks we couldn't complain!

I have been there several times but I have only eaten there once. I only had a Classic Chicken Burger but I have to say it was very dry and to me overcooked .I was hungry at the time so it served a purpose.Its not the best for pub grub but it was adequate.Regards Stevie

Me and my family went the other night for steak club. Brilliant service very clean and the prices are amazing. Steak was cooked to perfection. Well done J.D Wetherspoons

Went in here for a few drinks with friends. Service and beer was fine, but we sat in a booth in the family area and was irritated by flys, normal house flys but in December? I thought it was just by us until I went to the bar and saw more flys around the bar fridge and glasses. It put me off ever eating there as they must have a problem with hygiene? Flys don't survive in December cold weather so they must have maggots some where! Somebody needs to review this sooner rather than later.

Great for breakfasts, spacious and clean. Service is always friendly and food gets served up quickly. Nice place to relax with a book - the only pub to bother with in Moreton. All the others are complete dives.

The best eggs Benedict I have ever eaten and rocket to go with them! Superb friendly staff! I was staying with friends who live around the corner. They too, albeit that they are regulars, also commented on the standard of the food!Excellent, Richard.

We booked our Xmas day lunch here foe Xmas day, we had our own table nicely layed out, we also had waiter service and we were also given a free glass of baileys with our meal, it was all served by very pleasant staff who did a great job serving everyone's meals on time ,we would certainly book here again ,all the staff were a credit to the firm.

i dine in this restaurant quite often even though its not close to my home address,i find the food well above the usual for a pub and friendly staff to boot.the have a specials board worth more than any dish on the standard menu so check it out when you visit.bar staff although very busy are always polite and attentive.pam is a member of staff who always has a smile forevery customer.will go back soon. ron.

had Sunday lunch ,I ordered roast pork and paid extra £1.50 to make the dinner larger .I got 3 very thin slices of pork without apple sauce (which it should have had) 4tiny roast potatoes .the peas where cold and the carrot and cauliflower were very undercooked ,I complained and they took it back and microwaved some more and put one more roast potato on it.microwaved food in small portions ,it is cheap but you do get what you pay for and it is cheap ,I should know better as I've never had a decent meal there yet ....

definately value for money, steaks are well cooked and cheap and because they are hung for 35 days full of taste.
