Great menu, always busy so we usually book lunch in advance.5 Bean Chilli very good though a bit paltry re portion when served with baked potato.Better with the wild rice option.Tasty and spicy though. Shin of Beef was first class, melt in the mouth and great sauce. Fajitas were excellent too. Spaghetti Carbonara was tasteless, unfortunately, big disappointment hence a star taken off the review overall. Star off too as cakes are a bitmixed in quality - Meringue dessert was nice but very short on whipped cream and fruit; today's Black Forest Gateaux however, was very good indeed. Packaging up plastic portions of cake make them unappealing IMO. Lovely atmosphere and this place does really well for a local bistro - in fact more than well, their better dishes are good, truly homemade stuff. Chicken Noodle Soup of a few weeks ago was sensational but haven't seen it again on the menu for some months, sadly. Nice staff serving, very professional but friendly.

Lovely atmosphere, great music and delicious food. Staff are attentive. I have had sandwiches before and they were good value for money. I would recommend you pop in.

I find it very hard to write this review as both the staff and food were good and would possibly deserve a 5 star rating, however, it was difficult to enjoy our lunch with two ladies & their dogs next to us in the restaurant. Whilst I am not against dogs being allowed in restaurants I am against owners who disrespect and take advantage of dogs being allowed in to join them. One dog was sat upon the owners knee sniffing at the table and eventually being placed on the chair next to her. I do not wish to witness this but most of all the thought of coming into a restaurant unaware that a dog had previously been sat at the table and on my chair disgusts me! The other dog was under the table on a long lead which allowed him to roam around his area and encroaching on the poor table next to them with the poor clients being to polite to ask that he be moved. I realise that there is no policy which states dogs cannot enter restaurants, however, the restaurant does have responsibility to ensure that those with dogs show respect and ensure all clients in the restaurant are comfortable. Unfortunately, our visit this time has put us off making a return! Please see below guidelines that MJ’s should be following… Health code regulations play a vital role. Most health codes strictly prohibit animals from being on seats or tables due to contamination risks. Any deviation from this could result in serious ramifications for the restaurant, including fines and penalties.

I would rate everything highly at this hotel. Large spacious rooms, with good beds, and a decent shower. However, when there is an event on, it is far too noisy. If you are in one of the low number rooms, you will be ober or near the venue room and the noise was ridiculous. We had to move rooms as there was a wedding on both nights and the event was due to go on till 0100 in the morning! Probably a good place to stay Sunday to Thursday, but I would avoid at the weekend.

This is a great local hotel with a variety of food and a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Staff are excellent. My last visit was okay. Portions were average, though the food is good. I ordered the large fish but now wonder if the plates were mixed up, as the fish was standard and there were mushy peas whereas I asked for garden peas. Perhaps I should have queried. The starter was smallish but the sweet was excellent. My companion had the bill so I don't know the split of costs between alcohol and food but the total cost was £100, which seemed a lot. I would still go back, mind you and order with more care. Probably alcohol has increased in price. I drive so have Non alcohol equivalents. These cost about the same everywhere.
