Mister Eaters Fish and Chips in Preston

Bought fish , chips and peas twice today , the fish was dry and tasteless, worst meal I have ever bought from this chippy.

Frying fish properly is an art, and the staff at most chippies don’t have it. The bloke at Mister Eaters knows how to get it right, every time. He fries all the fish himself, by order, so the fish isn't sat in a warmer waiting to be sold. The fish itself is very high quality, always fresh, white and meaty, and the batter is super crispy and very tasty. The chips are lovely too. I treat myself every couple of weeks to fish and chips (£8.75). Not the cheapest, but definitely the best in Preston.

I called in on the off chance on Saturday lunchtime. I ordered 2 fish and a portion of chips (£11). I had to wait for the fish to be cooked which is fair enough as I prefer freshly cooked food anyway. Within 5 minutes my order was ready and I returned to my car to eagerly eat my fish and chips. On opening the box i was confronted with a glistening fish on top of a pile of glistening chips. They were certainly hot but very,very greasy, so much so that the fish was dripping hot fat all over the chips. I tilted the box and a pool of liquid formed in the corner of the box, at first I thought it was vinegar but oh no it was grease and the longer I tipped the box the more grease appeared. As for the fish when I tried to pick up a piece the batter just slid off, I'm guessing that they had not been cooked at the correct temperature? As the fish continued to ooze grease all over the chips they became slimy and inedible. This was the first time in a very long time that I couldn't finish a portion of fish and chips. My wife just had a fish, this was just as greasy and she couldn't finish it as it was awful. I dumped the leftovers in a nearby bin and we proceeded to make our way home but within 30 minutes or so we were both suffering with 'stomach' ache and had to make an emergency unscheduled stop at a motorway service station to use the toilet and ease the pain. I would have scored them less than 1 but it isn't an option, in my view this place should be avoided at all costs and perhaps needs a fresh visit from the local environmental health officer......

We decided to do a chippy run for the team as we were shutting down the pub for lockdown. Ordered a range of fish, chips, sausages and much more and it was all delicious! The staff where lovely and the food was spot on! Made the teams night. Definitely recommend.

Still operating during the Corona virus. Top quality fish. Also chicken (of various types) , pies and donner kebabs. Your food is cooked fresh for you, so you go in, order what you want then wait for it to be cooked.

Food was very nice. Staff very obliging and helpful and friendly excellent customer service. This is the sort of service I expect and makes me smile.

Excellent Special's on offer. Friendly Service. Good portion's and a good feed. Use this place regular. Curry sauce delicious.

coming from Grimsby as we do , we know what fish and chips should taste like, we were in Preston on business and needed lunch , and found Mister Eaters, the food from here is very good and served with a smile . i would recomend to any one

This is still the best fish and chip shop I have been to anywhere. John only uses first class ingredients ranging from the best potatoes for the chips, not greasy at all, white cod in crisp batter (secret recipe) and fresh mushy peas to the frequent house specialities he creates. My current favourite is the Beef Curry, tender meat in a great curry sauce again an in house recipe. This is ideal with half rice and half chips. John and his staff always give a great welcome and have time for a chat. It is not surprising that he has attracted national publicity and is well known for his record breaking burgers etc, If you are in the area or passing through, call in you won’t be disappointed'......well worth a detour on your way to the coast,

Such a fantastic chip shop, the food is so lovely, about the best I have eaten from a takeaway, the staff are super nice, I would highly recommend you try the food here. 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅

The food is excellent and the chips are the dryest ever. The owner, John, uses beef dripping for frying and the food tastes great. I have been going here for quite a while and the staff, Suzanne especially, are nice and friendly. The rag puddings, Jacksons, are fantastic. Try them battered, they are wonderful.

Don't get to go here as often as I would like given their opening hours but it is a real treat every time we do. Always great service and really good food. Love the weird and wonderful menu choices. Brought some relatives from Finland here and they still talk about it!

I consistently have had great fish and chips from here when I worked in the area. Best chippy I've been to in the North West. I went in once to compliment the owner, never done that before at a chippy. Curry sauce is amazing, fish nice and chunky and chips cooked just right. I would agree that it is very pricey but I prefer to pay a bit more for great fish and chips.

Staff polite but service was slow, how anyone on a lunch break can wait 15 minutes for fish n chips is beyond me. Food was way overpriced fish chips n curry sauce, £6.90 for what can be only described as mediocre fodder. Will go elsewhere in future

I came here for my lunch whilst in the area, it is overpriced for what I got. For the sake of a couple of miles, I would definitely advice going to Stonebridge chippy in Longridge; it is far better and cheaper!!

Excelente bien preparada comida sabrosa, pero es bastante caro para una tienda de chips. Este chips ha ganado premios, sin embargo es más un lujo que una cosa habitual debido al precio de pescado y patatas, el tío que posee es precioso como el personal. No voy tan a menudo como solía en cuenta el precio, que dice que es muy sabrosa.

A small tray of chips cost me £1.90, how can you justify that price when they weren't even cooked that well! Won't be going back.

What a fabulous place food was lush and good for price a must go to for any one gr8 staff very welcoming lovely and clean !!! !!!

Excellent friendly and swift service. Fish and chips superbly cooked, take a look at all the press clippings describing some of the owners outrageous creations. Well worth a visit.

Stopped here for lunch while working in the area,I should have kept on driving to be honest,the gravy was nice and that's about it,if you want a pie that's microwaved to within an inch of its life and full of gristle then it's the place for you

Drop in there when ever I can as I don't live near. really WELL worth a visit! You will never get fish chips and peas as good as this anywhere and that includes Blackpool and Whitby and believe me I've travelled and always try out the local chippy's.

Fish so big you think it came from an ocean in a fantasy novel, beautifully cooked chips, mushy pea that taste fresh, gravy that has a rich flavour, and a friendly atmosphere. If this is what you require from your choppy tea there is no finer place to go.

I always pop in here if im in the area and looking for this type of food . One of the best I`ve ever been to with good service and good choice of takeaway stuff above and beyond the usual fish and chip range

Very good local chippy you can have your fish cooked fresh for you also very good range of different foods available to order you must have the potato scallops to go with everything.Would recommend this place for a visit.Reasonably priced and cleanNot a RESTAURANT but a takeaway

I reckon its the best fish and chips I have had for a while. Especially th chips I like that they were done rather then hard potatoes

Went in for my usual sausage and chips and found another option, kebab. Various ways of having it but I went for a trial size, a wrap with salad, to go with my sausage and chips. Nice crisp salad and excellent donner meat, not too fatty. A real treat and something I will have again.

Although I live locally I've never tried this chippy. It was very expensive. Ordered large chips but to be honest it wasn't very large! The chips I found to be very dry. Sausage was over priced too! Won't be bothering again!

Very clean and smart chippy that does regular stuff but also unusual dishes ! However they do a proper curry and chips which is excellent, not just a sauce. Recommended...

Very disappointed with our visit. Wanted the Mr Chippy Whippy only to be told despite it being publicised and having pictures of it on their walls, we don't do it anymore they're only for show! Ok then despite being gutted as that's what we went for thought I would have the spit roasted Chinese pork hot barm...think again we don't do that now either although it is still up on the menu board. I would strongly recommend that if you're planning to visit to phone first to make sure they actually still do what you're going for!!!! Won't be going back personally but if you choose to it is very clean.

I went here on Friday the 15th of May 2015 and was disappointed at how long it took and the cost, I placed my order and had to wait for it to be cooked for me, fair enough.What annoyed me was they served their regulars before they served me, even though my food was cooked before theirs!The food was ok, but nothing special and it was very expensive for a chippy!

I don't usually do chippys at lunch time, but as I was caught on the hop I thought I'd have too.What a great place, friendly-cleen- and a great variety of everything. The best bit was as the sun was shining I was able to sit outside and watch the world by too.Cheers guys, I will be calling agian for my supper on the way home.

I am a regular here. Excellent quality fish and other stuff as well (pies, sausages, chicken, burgers, scampi). Also renowned for battering creme eggs and lots of other 'unusual' food.Good food, well cooked and in a clean shop. On a good day, sit and eat outside on the chairs and table provided and have your meal al fresco.

This is more than just another fish and chip cafe. We called in one sunny afternoon and we were really impressed with the choice of the menu and cleanliness of the restaurant. Presenters from the BBC Top Gear TV programme have recommended it and we can see why.I ordered a medium cod and chips which was perfect, my wife had the daily special of seafood paella starter comprising of saffron rice, salmon, mussels, tiger prawns, white fish, scallops, samphire, chicken, chorizo and bacon which was 10 out 10.If you're really hungry you can add half a lobster to make it a main meal, what was nice was that the waiter informed us that the meal was very large and you could possibly not eat all of it and waste money.Also an added bonus is that you can have an alcoholic drink with your meal.Try their website and when you do visit you will see how good it tastes. The food is first class and the next we are in Whitby this will be our number one restaurant to visit.

This is a great fish and chip shop and you will travel a long way to find a better meal. Lovely crispy batter made to a secret recipe coating flaky white fish, chips made the way they should be nice and golden and grease free. Traditional mushy peas are the final touch.a great value lunch time portion is available for those with a lighter appetite.Take it away or in the summer sit at the tables outside,both are equally enjoyable. While you are waiting look at all the news clips on the wall.publicised as far away as the USA the charismatic proprietor has created yard high burgers etc and recently featured on the Hester Blomenthal show on tv. You can even try the battered Ferrero Rocher or twix or mars bar. Well worth a visit and if you go you are certain to keep going back.
