Cant go wrong with the mint. Lovely curry

This used to be one of the best curry houses in Coventry, and I can tell you the main thing that has now gone wrong in two words ‘Portion’ and ‘size’, You can see from my photo that there is less than one breast of chicken in my chicken tikka Masala, (only 7 chunks to be precise) which is a bit stingy by any stretch of the imagination. Even my Keema naan had only a superficial smearing of keema meat in it, with the majority of the naan being pretty much plain (and slightly doughy and undercooked) I used to rate this curry restaurant higher than any other in Coventry, it was amazing. A tasty curry with generous portions...so who the hell has taken over to screw this up so monumentally? Whoever it was, man alive...have they laid an egg????? This restaurants decline had been apparent as in the last year or so I have started to favour the curry house next door as The Mints takeaway curries have not been as nice or as generous as they once were. Not only does this other restaurant provide a tastier tikka masala but it contains considerably more chicken. Indeed I went to this other restaurant first and because they were full and couldn’t accommodate me, I turned to The Mint (my previous first choice but now relegated to my consolation choice) and the restaurant was practically empty. The curry I ordered was, to be fair, just as tasty as it always was, (and huge improvement in what i’ve received lately via their delivery service) but please, please, PLEASE increase your meat portion, as the decision to reduce your portions has all but destroyed your business. I’ll tell you now (and I speak as a college trained and experienced restauranteur) should you revert to a decent portion size of meat, then it will be the curry house next door that would struggle to attract customers, as your own restaurant would be packed to the rafters, EVERY, SINGLE. NIGHT. Please take this on board and save your business. This one simple change will generate so much new business and entice back so much returning business it will change your fortunes almost overnight. My other gripe I have was with the staff, who were not very attentive. I only saw two members of staff...a woman who I presume was the manager who sat by the bar and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ALL THE TIME I WAS THERE apart from stare at and type things into her phone, and a male member of staff who pretty much did the same thing except when food needed to be brought out. Other than that he seemed pretty inactive too. Not once during my meal did anyone approach me to see if everything was okay. I asked for the bill and after he gave it to me, he didn’t seem overly keen on coming to take payment in the pursuing 15 minutes. I had to attract his attention at the bar area where he had been sitting doing nothing all of that time. So let’s go guys.. let’s make positive changes moving forward..let’s see more attentive staff, bigger portion sizes and ensure as much attention to quality and taste when it comes to your takeaway service as your restaurant service. The Mint can once again be a genuine and worthy tour de force in Curry based cuisine in Coventry. Come on! All it takes is the positive changes I’ve suggested here. You can do it!

Not sure the right order was sent. One of the dishes were wrong. Cold food.

Order was really late and the person I spoke to was so unhelpful when I called. The food wasn’t as nice as normal and the popadoms were chewy

Was hoping for a nice meal but when it came out it was freezing cold! Before it turned up the manger was in a meeting upstairs with the owners the language was absolutely awful. We spoke to the chap behind the bar & he went to speak to them but they just continued. While we were sat waiting for our meal to be re-heated somebody came back in with there takeaway & demanded there money back as it wasn’t what they had ordered.When we last went you wasn’t allowed to take your own drink so we ordered 2 pints of cobra followed by 2 more this time I clocked the chap pouring from a can so I questioned him.His answer was the beer hadn’t turned up. Then the bill came £16 for 4 cans so I asked to speak to the manger.She came over & I told her how I felt about the language & the beer price. She basically told me to shut up as we’d had our say & showed us the door. WILL NEVER GO BACK ,

Delivered on time. Food was ok, didn't live up to its reputation. Achairi lamb way too hot, couldn't taste the pickle, more like a vindaloo. Korma very sweet.

The food was cold and tasteless, was not a proper keema.

Order a chicken korma but the chicken were missing same for the lamb madras when calling the restaurant he said it impossible and am lying then he said that it dissolved probably very rude response.

Came here for the first time on 28th December. Don’t know where to begin.... The food was absolutely poor as well as the customer service we received, we ordered 4 pints of cobra which was absolutely flat and tasted disgusting! The manageress was rudely mannered the staff as a whole need basic retraining again. Our bill was higher then what it should of been also. Will not be coming back to this place again avoid at all costs.

Madras and masala were nice. Lamb Korma was a disappointment. Lamb was very fatty and chewy, not alot of actual meat. Korma sauce had funny after taste. Won't be reordering that dish again.

I have visited The mint on many occasions and I have never had any problems with their food/ service until today. I had placed my order with clear instructions that it was from the starter menu as we ordered a mix of dishes, when I came to pay for the bill, these “starters” were charged as mains! I complained to the man behind the counter and explained what happened and agreed I would only pay what I ordered (starters), He was extremely rude and did not take responsibility for THEIR error! The food was not eaten and was very bland. I would not recommend this place!!

This is the first time that I have gone to this Indian restaurant after being recommended to go and definitely won’t be the last!! Food was yummy and generous portions with amazing presentation. We had a perfect service couldn’t fault the chap who served us! I can’t wait to go again ☺️

Really quite disappointed in the chips, barely cooked, soggy and tasteless. The popadoms were soggy too from the condensation, separate bags need to be considered.

Having been here previously twice before myself I booked it for Monday 28 Oct for a work ‘do’. I did so because as advertised they have a £11 meal deal (still advertised) where you get a starter a main and a side and a coffee for £11. Apparently. Not so though.. we was told when ordering that this is no longer available and we would be paying full price. Held to random.. yes. We could of left and justifiably so. It is unfortunate that a business has to use tactics like this to get bums on seats so to speak and use underhand tactics as it is plainly obvious that business is slow but it’s still shocking to see and be witness to it. The food is not great either. Do not bother to go here, Shimla Spice on the sane road may be a bit more expensive due to its quality of food but at least it doesn’t advertise something it doesn’t honour.

Food was very late. We ordered 2 curries, rice, naan, chips and popadums. The popadums were soggy and we only got 1 chutney set but ordered 2. Chips were stone cold therefore inedible. Curry had hardly any meat in compared to the previous curries we have had from here. I am really shocked and disappointed. What a waste.

First time I'd tried the Mint as a delivery service. Definitely a cut above ordinary Takeaway establishments!! Lovely food!

We went here last night my partner and I having previously been only once. First visit empty so service and food good. Last night large party in but not overly busy so should have been able to it’s restaurant after all !The Service was fine not overly attentive which was disappointing asked more than once if we were ready to order. A bit of a rushed feeling. Order food, eat and go.However my biggest disappointment was the food. I ordered a spicy adish with lamb and garlic. No spice no garlic and hardly any meat. Plus my curry was served on a platter generally used for rice hence not keeping it hot. My partner ordered chicken Dansak with PINEAPPLE how odd. We had starters vegetable pakora in breadcrumbs!!!! Again had odd. Should have complained at the time being British we don’t . I feel this is an honest review. I really wanted to go here as the first time was excellent but overall very disappointing. I hate wasting hard earned cash hey ho.

Over charged and given the wrong food. When I called and asked about it, the issue wasn’t really explained as to why I got a complete different dish and I was just blamed for the mistake. Charged extra for it aswell! Offered something free next time I order from them as a sorry.

I often eat here when I stay in Coventry and it's usually pretty good as well as reasonably priced. Tonight I had prawn jalfrezi and a peshwari naan. Both very good. It came to £13 so I left £15. The waiter offered to bring change so I said that was the tip. My colleague did the same, accidentally giving the waiter £25 instead of £15. The waiter took the money but brought back £10 as he realised she must have overpaid accidentally. I was really impressed with this. What a great guy. I asked his name but didn't write it down so forgot..... but it began with R!

We were in Coventry for 2 nights and asked the hotel for an Indian Restaurant they could reccomend. Very good food that was hot, tasty and not too fatty.Being mid week, it was quiet, but we found the staff very helpfull so returned for the second night.Will go back next year when we will be back in Coventry

Went to this restaurant with my boyfriend. The place was soo empty and staff were sitting on the restaurant chairs. They were soo lazy to walk us to our table . Instead they finger pointed our table from a distance for us to go sit .we changed our mind and went to another place.

The place was busy verging on overrun, however they kept letting more people in. We ordered two fish starters, what was described as “succulent lumps of lobster...” was in fact just frozen scampi lobster . The other was completely unseasoned breaded salmon. The lamb naga main was ok, the rice was served under a Tupperware bowl masquerading as a cloche ‍♂️ - but we will let that slide. The salmon tikka on the other-hand had an expired filet of salmon. Unfortunately, as the missus had her tastebuds seared off with the Naga , she didn’t fully realise her piece was rotten until she had munched most of it. Her botty is in serious jeopardy , pray for her please . The owner was completely useless and rude when we complained. No seasoning or flavour in 2 out of 4 of the dishes, one standard and the other had the seasoning of a dead fish . Avoid.

Food was on time, but the mint yogurt had definatly gone off, it tasted sour, also the popodums were stale, also hardly any meat in the curries, shall not be ordering again, Just Eat were not at all help full either.

Food was nice except for the two pots of mint yogurt which was clearly off, the small tubs were pressurised, which happens to yogurt when off, and it tasted awful.....makes you wonder about the rest of the kitchen standards....

Every time we order from here the food is late, despite adjusting our delivery time on order, it still never makes it on time. They are lucky their food tastes so good.

Never had broccoli in a vegetable curry before, not a fan. Broccoli doesn't belong in a curry. The naan bread was also a bit too oily. Service was good though as it arrived well before the estimated delivery time and I was starving.

Not as good as usual, very bland, disappointing as it’s usually very good from here... also the take away containers have changed and are smaller then the old round ones... but that didn’t matter as I only ate half of this one ...

Can’t find fault with the Mint, food was delicious and service very good. The inside was spotlessly clean and food very reasonably priced.. we were visiting from Ireland 🇮🇪 and can’t wait for our next trip to Coventry to call in again.

Had been waiting all week for this curry and it did not disappoint, honestly one of the best take outs I’ve ever had...

Awful meal always order from here but won’t again-popadoms so stale I couldn’t even break them onions were brown and soggy in the onion salad curry lid had too much weight on and caved in so leaked everywhere chips were cold and stale waste of money!

Our food arrived 2 hours and 10 minutes`after we ordered. They gave us the wrong naan bread and half of the popadoms that we ordered. Really disappointed and I'd like my money back.

My keema naans were not fully cooked, and really doughy. My chicken Tikka main was only about 5 pieces, and was 60% onions. I hate onions. It's why i order tikka, rather then anything with a sauce. I didn't let the restaurant know though, which is why my rating is pretty fair.

Food was missing from order. Missing food took another 45 minutes to arrive obviously by which time the rest of the meal was ruined and had to be reheated. Would not pay by card again as I felt instead of chasing a refund I was not guaranteed I had to accept missing food instead of cancelling and returning order.

Food was good, big portion, piping hot on arrival and they even threw in a free poppadom with onion salad and mint dip. Would deffo use again

I’m disappointed to read so many bad reviews. I use the Mint every couple of weeks for a takeaway, which are normally excellent. If you place a decent order, mine is usually about £15 they will normally include a couple of free popadoms and some chutney, an excellent idea. They stamp a menu for you and on every fifth visit they reduce your bill by the lowest amount you have previously paid (no collection reduction on your fifth visit so you do have to pay a few pounds but still a great deal) Recently I had a meal in the restaurant which admittedly was mid week, but the food and service were both excellent. I confess I have used the delivery service and it’s been a slight problem with promised times being missed by as much as half an hour but the food is still excellent. The owner/manager is always pleasant and polite. Other customers have obviously had a poor experience but please consider them again, as my experiences have been very different.

As per the title the food not be same as our last visit in mid October. We ordered a take away for 2 and were told 30 minutes. Got to the mint on time and had to wait another 25 minutes to collect our food! So it was basically an hour for a takeaway being collected!

We live away (80 miles), so don't get here as often as we like, but this time.....

Well I was going to give this an average review (still am...) but having just seen some of the stinging reviews below I have to say on our visit it wasn’t that bad. Ok the Coke was flat & the service was perfunctory but it was not slow. The Poppadoms & dips were lovely & the Chicken Pasanda & the sizzling Chicken Tikka both with pilau rice together with the large garlic Nan were all tasty. Wife had a large White wine & the whole meal with drinks was £32 . Not the cheapest curry around but it’s set in a brightly lit restaurant & there was a steady stream of customers coming in plus take always which suggest it has a loyal base.

Food had been left in the bag too long so was steamed and cold. Poppadoms were soggy The rogan josh tasted like it had been made with tinned tomatoes and was very poor. Not great at all

Oh dear, had good meals here in the past but tonight was a shocker. Couldn't use the drinks we bought with us as Mint is now licenced, no biggie but website should be updated, £20 spent on drinks beforehand we didn't need to buy. Drink order taken and the Coke was flat, cap wasn't on the bottle for the 30 mins we were there. In that 30 mins we didn't have a waiter take our order and to be honest that was a blessing, while we waited numerous tables complained about delays and complaints about food. 3 tables remained uncleared for duration of our stay. As one table left shaking their head at us we asked the guys on the table next to us how they had got on. They told us that it had took 90 mins for the main to arrive so we opted to pay for the beer and popodoms and eat elsewhere.

My food was 20 minutes late and cold when it arrived.I did call the restaurant they said sorry. Some if the food was stale, most of it went in the bin.I Was surprised as I have eaten there before an it was ok.

Went with a party of 13 from work omg it was freezing we never took our coats off the whole night we waited an hour for poppadoms it was like something out of faulty towers a waiter was was taking drinks upstairs dropped it people got soaked another waiter dropped drinks and they smashed over the floor lukewarm food toilets were like a freeze box never again

The Chicken Jaipuri is the best we've had and we order from the Mint specifically for this dish. The delivery slot was an hour and a bit, so we were feeling the extra 10 minutes lol.

ordered at 7.05, arrival scheduled for 8.20pm, arrived at 9.05pm. 45 minutes late, not ordering again. tried to call restaurant to see where order was but it just rang and rang. don’t bother

Called at 6.50pm and placed my order for delivery. They explained they are quite busy and advised our food should arrive in roughly an hour.

We ordered a meal for delivery 2 and a half hours ago. We’ve called them 4 times to find out where it is and each time they’ve said it’s on its way and will be 10 mins max. Now they just cut us off when we call them. Won’t be using The Mint again.

We had a delicious midweek meal here - the portions were generous and the prices very reasonable. The panir tikka we had for starters was especially memorable, and the peshwari naan the best I have ever eaten!

I've used the Mint several times and have always been happy with the quality and service. Unfortunately, I placed an order this evening and it was missing items when it arrived. I called the restaurant to raise this and the attitude of the staff was poor- they were unapologetic and unhelpful. I felt like they wanted me to apologise for an issue they created. I completely understand that mistakes happen and would have been fine about the whole situation if they were simply apologetic and kind. I contacted Just Eat who have confirmed that I will be refunded. I won't use the restaurant again - it's a shame, the food is good, but I won't give my business where customers aren't well. There is a wide variety of food outlets these days, and it'd do the owners well to remember that customers can always take their business elsewhere.

Ordered a curry on just eat. Arrived two hours later. Two chicken Balti but they were different colours and didn’t taste the same. Popadoms were stale. Keema nan was not the same. Smaller portions and the curries were very watery and the samosas weren’t all lamb even though I asked for only lamb. Used to love the mint but will be boycotting it from now on!!!

Very disappointed. Initially ordered food and was told delivery would be at 2055, that changed to 2110 and food didn’t turn up until 2135. I had to phone the restaurant to chase the driver, no apologies from them or the driver. Popadoms tasted stale, chicken tikka and rice were cold. It’s a shame because in fairness the curry’s were actually really nice and still hot. I’ll try elsewhere next time.

With plenty of choice in the area we decided on Mint after a recommendation and we were not disappointed despite not having a drinks licence.(You can take your own and they provide glasses).

Came here last night with friends. My meal was atrocious. I ordered a veg balti and honestly it was like something from the bottom of a stew pot! Naan was stodgy and cold as well! My friend ordered the butter chicken and there was FOUR pieces of chicken in her dish, sad to say around an hour or so after she threw up! The service left a lot to be desired and I can't help thinking that it was because of our age or the fact we were drinking. Dirty cutlery was dropped on us, the staff were very abrupt, all in all not a pleasant experience.

Really nice food. Just eat said it would be ready at 11.15pm. Went at 11pm and they cooked it straight away. Recommended.

I regularly get takeaways from here and they have always been nice, never had a problem with the food. The curries are always delicious and well sized.

I'd rather they'd have pushed back the delivery time but over an hour than deliver it late as we were waiting for food . Don't mind waiting because quality is good but they should have set a later time from the offset . We pre ordered before the restaurant was open so really no excuse for how late it was which is such a shame as we have never had a problem before .

I've been going to the mint restaurant and having takeaways from there from nearly the date opened the food was outstanding but as time's gone by the quality on the takeaway has diminished substantially it tastes nothing like the food you eat in the restaurant but still better than most other takeaways on the 4th of August I ordered my normal food the cost was just over £24 I go to the mint sometimes 4or more times a month sometimes even more but on Saturday the food was 2 hours and getting to me I phoned 3 times and told each time it was 10 minutes away on the third occasion I was told that I would have a replacement meal and next time I ordered when the driver arrived I told him if the food was cold he could take it back he then told me that the food have been in the bag 20 minutes and that the manager who told me it was 10 minutes away was a liar as my family was so hungry we microwaved food when I try to collect my replacement meal I was told that that wasn't the case just replacing some of it as a Goodwill gesture that's not what I was told and I'm form then if they did not keep to their agreement I will terminate my business with them at this stage was told again that I was only going to get a discount on the meal so I told them that they had lost my custom sadly and I put the phone down one minute later they called me back to ask me why I put the phone down I explained the game as above and again I said you've lost my custom I then got a phone call from what sounded like a lady who was very ignorant arrogant she did not care about more custom and she just reiterated that I will only get a discount and not a replacement meal I was not getting a free meal that's not what I was after only wanted what I've been promised sadly they have lost my custom it will take me some time to find a good takeaway but I will and I will move on I'm very sad as I love the stuff that are there they know me I know them very friendly but Saturday night was too much now if there was more occasion i was told that i would have a replacement meal and next time i ordered i the driver arrived i told him if the food was cold he could take it back he then told me that the food and been in the bag 20 minutes and the manager who told me it was 10 minutes away was a liar as my family was so hungry with microwaved it
