Went for lunch with a friend, brilliant service and food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for all occasions it’s a great spot for a drink and catch up with friends.

Called in for lunch before going shopping, it was very quiet as expected. There was a young family in there and another near the play area Ordered fish and chips and fishfinger butty, the waitress was really pleasant and the food was good. Whilst waiting for the food three men came in and sat in the middle of the room with their pints, they were very loud and were using foul language constantly, they weren’t asked to tone down the language, as I thought they would have been. What could have been an enjoyable experience turned out to be a bad one, I don’t expect to visit somewhere to have something to eat to listen to loud strong language up to then I was quite enjoying the experience I won’t be visiting again.

I was appalled we only ordered soup and garlic bread as we had to go out very quickly, we waited half an hour and it came with just the waitress handling the bowls with thumbs in bowl not on a plate and 1oz of liquid in not even a small size tin of soup in it, and charging £4.95 disgusting for the amount,garlic bread was just popped in toaster and out I would not recommend this pub for a meal very sad 😞 this happed on Wed 18th evening.

Came for a pint the service was superb all the staff greeted me with a smile and made me feel so welcome will definitely be coming back

I came here today I had the steak off the specials menu, I like my steak rare it was cooked to perfection the rest of the meal was lovely, I would highly recommend to give this steak a try, the staff was very friendly & welcoming with a lovely atmosphere. The pub was very clean

Today I Visited the miners peg with my family for food, I had the cowboy burger and it was amazing. the environment is very nice and the staff are kind and helpful. Pub looks recently renovated making the area look really tidy and smart. My daughter was very impressed with the Halloween display😍I would definitely recommend coming back and would recommend to family and friends.

Came for tea with a few friends, staff were lovely. The service was fast and the food was hot and yummy. Will definitely be coming here again.

Waited an hour for 3 burgers and a hunters chicken, was told after 40 mins it would be 15 mins longer,20 minutes later was told it was being sent out from the kitchen 'right now', 10 mins later appeared at the table.

Staff dont care and are rude, takes ages to get served and then 50+ minutes minimum to get your food. Which is basic microwave fare, tasteless and overpriced. You are paying £12-15 for a micro lasagne with a lettuce leaf for example. And the service, well there is none. More interested in chatting in the back and making sure they are ready to close on the second its due. Avoid

Being a huge fan of carveries and having not had one since before lockdown we booked here. It was clean, bright & spacious with very friendly, helpful & welcoming staff. Sadly the carvery, )my 1st one at a Marstons) was the worse ive ever had. Hard rubbery roasties, cauli cheese that just tasted like boiled cauli, tiny piece of dry hard stuffing, thin beef that tasted processed, tasteless gravy & it was all incl the veg & york pud, either cold or luke warm.Having waited a while and having not eaten for 7 hours we just ate most of it as we were so hungry. Seems like hours old food that had been lieing around being kept barely warm. Either that or a new chef is needed!! Ive had dozens of carveries in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire & further south and never had one this bad. Would have given less stars but for the fab staff.

Bit of a que but not the staffs fault. Been a lot since they opened was a bit hit n miss couple years ago but since last year they’ve gone really good. Deffo recommend Nice staff

I don’t know why people constantly complain about the service in this restaurant. The staff are always polite, the food is always good for the price that you pay and the drinks are reasonably priced. And the cleanliness of the entire pub is always to a very high standard.

I dont know why there is negative reviews about this place. The staff are always pleasant and it is a nice place to socialise with friends over reasonably priced food and drinks. The property is always kept clean and the tables are constantly wiped down.

Service was so bad and slow. Wouldn't mind but the place was literally empty. Only us two and had basic meals (Steak and a Salad) yet it took 50 minutes to get served. And the food was very bad indeed! Wetherspoon standard meals, but much much smaller and £16 not £4!! The staff really didnt seem to care and couldn't really be bothered "serving" at all tbh. The lady who I assume was the Manageress, was just chating and on her phone all evening so no wonder everything about this place is so bad

Been here lots of times and was mostly good, although it's always hit and miss. My family and i went tonight and was totally unimpressed the food was horrible and they got the order wrong when we asked for this to be rectified we were ignored and sat for half an hour waiting for some chips and sauce until we walked out. Complained at the bar and the staff didn't seem to care won t be visiting again.

I have sang the praises of this eatery in the past, but our latest visit was such a change from the norm. Mid week, five people, empty restaurant. Very very limited menu because of Covid (completely understandable). As stated there were ourselves and one other table occupied when we visited, so I can not understand why it too 50 minutes to be served what is, obviously, basic pub food. Just five mains, nothing fancy (scampi, Salad etc) yet we had to ask where the food was after 40 minutes. And then, the standard of the food was abysmal. For example, my "Hunters Chicken" consisted of an very small and skinny half dwarf chicken, with literally not one drop of BBQ sauce on and a dollop of slimy cheese the opposite side of where the chicken actually was. Seven, yes I counted, chips and that was that. Why not at the very least more chips ( the cheap part of the meal) and maybe a scoop of peas or a small side salad (again cost literally nothing) and a bit of effort on presentation. All meals where similar standard after waiting nearly and hour for them. The staff were good as usual, but the actually offering you are paying for was a joke. And not cheap for cheap pub grub! Mine was £12 for example, for a weatherspoons standard meal that would be £4 in weatherspoons. So five mains and 5 soft drinks came to over £70 which for this standard is excessive! We actually went to the nearby Asda to get something more to eat as we were all still hungry! Also, after a 50 minute wait, I had to ask twice (!!) for salt and condiments which took another 10 minutes to get so the food was cold by the time we could actually eat it. And I had asked for these items before we even ordered, so no idea why a basic need (salt, cutlery) was not just provided once you had ordered, surely they are aware that people will need these items? TBH, I got the impression the staff were more interested in getting the premises clean and finished off so they could leave dead on closing time, but keep in mind this was at 8pm, not 11pm! So, wont be visiting again which is a shame

This is the first time we’ve visited since it’s opened back up after the lockdown. It felt safe and they’d obviously put things in place to keep it that way. It was clean, and had plenty of space both inside and out. There seemed to be new staff, with the usual lovely manageress, but they all seemed really friendly and helpful. The food arrived promptly, it was hot. My eggs that I had with the gammon where a little undercooked but it was no big deal. My son said that miners peg do the best burgers. The menu was limited but there’s still plenty of choice. We will be back soo.

Fish n chips awful think frozen fish greasy batter cold mushy peas n horrible chips. Was my fist visit but it will be definitely my last.

Just after the reopen 26th July, I ordered a chicken tikka masala and rice with chips on the side. The chips were cold like they had been sat waiting for some time. The rice being the hottest thing on the plate. Drinks over priced, pint of strongbow being £4.20! Salad came with a poor little amount of actual salad on the plate. Nachos where burnt and rock hard.Disappointed and won’t be returning in a hurry. Wasn’t even asked how we found the food so didn’t have a chance to tell them as I didn’t want to say it in front of customers coming in.

We had a few meals here either just the few of us or a bigger group whilst staying in the area. There were a good choice of meals for vegetarians and the kids. And the others all loved the carvery.

Absolutely awful meal! I ordered the Salmon that was supposed to have ‘freshly’ cooked potatoes with it and veg from the carvery. My bland Salmon had to be collect at the carvery all they had was luke warm mushed veg with dry mash or cauliflower cheese! I assume that’s what it was as nothing was labelled. My husband had a medium carvery and the pork was in eatable. Food was spilled all over the place. I ordered apple pie and ice cream, which was hotter than the main meal and very nice, but as I was eating it chocolate or something came oozing from under my plate onto the table. We spoke to the manager who saw me mopping up the muck from under my plate and all over my side of the table and he wasn’t bothered and said the gunk had come off another plate in the kitchen! I felt sick and had to leave it. I have NEVER had this anywhere I’ve eaten and his attitude was shocking. I’m surprised the place is allowed to stay open as this manager doesn’t give a stuff and I worry about hygiene levels both on the carvery and in the kitchen after what we experienced today. He didn’t even offer any type of refund when when husbands nearly full plate and all I’d eaten was a small piece of salmon for £21! Then I had to leave my desert because the plate was filthy. First and last time we will enter this place. The other staff were nice but only two of them seemed to know what they were doing!

It’s clean, the food is always hot and the people who work there are really nice and helpful. We pop in for tea or a few gins when it was my birthday we booked the large table and even though we all ordered different meals it all came together and even helped with the cake

Came to celebrate a 30th birthday with a family meal, excellent service & food, staff extremely friendly and helpful

Visited on Saturday afternoon. Bit of a mixed bag but would try again. We had cauliflower wings which were very tasty, garlic bread and nachos pretty good. Then a very long wait of at least 30 mins for 4 burgers which were tasty but poorly presented with a few chips.Desserts were ordered then not available and then the order was wrong. Staff apologised. Worth a try for an easy meal but could be better.

Great night and lovely meal 13 of us tonight and all of us really enjoyed our meal great deal steak and wine for 2 at £20 few upgraded to the mixed grill for an extra £2 can't argue with that! Staff fantastic and very helpful as always thanks again for a lovely birthday meal for my mum great night

before the 'Peg arrived we were a bit limited on places to eat out without travelling, the carvery is good and the individual meals also tasty, right in the middle of skelmersdale and next to Asda it's well situated

Staff friendly enough but food was poor. Went for the cavery an the only thing that was warm was the gravy. The cabbage was dried up toast potatoes were rock hard with black eyes. Cauliflower cheese was missing the cheese sauce it was only on a couple of bits. The carrots were dry and parsnips were mush.

Excellent service and food! A shame about the mucky seats and broken table tho the food arrived promptly. I must say it’s one of the best club sandwiches I have had. It’s just the stained seats and top of the table kept sliding. These Thai gas can be fixed easily. I would definitely recommend the food

Got homemade toad in a hole. The sausages were black on the outside and pink on the inside. I also found a black hair on my plate to (can see on photo) terrible service as when I complained I got told the sausages were suppose to look like that which if that is true then I think they need to re-think their menu. Not one of the children's high chairs had been wiped down properly as the all had old food stuck to the sides.

Went here for a spot of lunch before the mother in-law went home and really enjoyed our meals my partner had a mix grill steak cooked to perfection as well as other meat get value for money, my mother in law had a steak and chips asked steak to be rare and it was cooked amazing she said easy to cut though it was like butter and melted in her mouth she said it was the best steak and amazing price, I had the chick and mix hunters chicken fries and corn the chicken was cooked to perfection very juicy price was amazing we really enjoyed the meal

When you need a traditional roast dinner with all the trimmings come here and enjoy. I couldn't make it better myself, so tasty and delicious, been here lots of times for other food & is always excellent. Staff very courteous and the chef is so helpful. Definitely recommend here for a traditional flavoursome roast

I’ve been coming here on a weekly basis often bringing our family inc children. However over the last 4 weeks or so the carvery is not good at all. I eat beef only and it is so badly cooked, very, very rare with lots of fat in the joint. So very disappointed in the roast potatoes, they are barely roasted. What has happened.?? If you carry on providing 3rd rate food, you will not last long in Skelmersdale. I won’t be returning.

We popped out for a bite to eat quite late. Meals were good. Great value. Bottomless soft drinks. Waited a lot for the ice cream but definitely value for money.

Visited here on Friday for my daughters birthday. Couldn’t be happier! Upon arrival, staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. A young girl shown us to our table which they had kindly reserved for us. We sat for about 30 minutes before ordering our food which came out shortly after. Some of the family had starters however I went straight for the gammon steak, which I would highly recommend. My wife ordered the fish and chips. We couldn’t believe for the two of us our meals came to only £11! Been to many pubs for food in the past but the service received at the miners peg was much better. Highly recommend! Lovely food for an incredible price. Will definitely be back! Thank you for making my daughters Birthday so special!

Me and 3 of my friends turned up 20 minutes before the food stopped and thought they wouldn’t be too pleased, food still came out amazing and well presented, definitely recommend and staff were as lovely as anything, nice value for money and a lovely atmosphere. Very impressed.

Avoid the carvery like the plague. Awful food. All of the food was dry as a bone and tasteless. When we complained they give us a dry piece of cake in a box to take home.

I was told to try here for a cheap and cheerful meal, mainly the roast, however went down and to my surprise everything was quite cold and had clearly been here all day-neglected! Wasn’t at all worth the price. Sorry but never again.

I have had two experiences with the menu food ,,the burger was dreadful ,tasteless,over cooked rock hard.Gammon over cooked ,presentation awful.Two experiences with the carvery, I ordered large ,and received my chosen meat three small pieces of Turkey,however I never complained and enjoyed the vegetables and gravy I added.I returned recently and was determined to challenge the servers in the carvery about their meat portions.I had no problems ,I ordered large asking for pork and turkey ,and received generous portions of both.On that same day the bar staff were very attentative,even suggesting I sit in a quiet area ,away from the marauding children.My last visit ,there were only two staff at the bar ,one girl I recognised who always appears efficient, and courteous, I think she is a senior member of staff.The other clearly a new member , who struggled a little and was quite slow.I have no complaints about this member of staff , everyone has to learn, she was professional.My issue has to be why on a busy bank holiday Sunday afternoon the company employs two staff at the bar , one of them inexperienced??.There is inconsistencies in the quality and portion sizes ,on any given day.The establishment is clean ,is in a good location , has nice areas , for families.Please aim for a more consistent service.

We came here not knowing what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. For pub food I would say this is above the average and for the price paid its exceptional value. I had the large carvery and my partner had the Burger with the bbq pulled pork. We got the refillable cokes and the total bill was £27 (we had 3 cokes each)

We have been to the Miners Peg a few times and it's always been fine. But we went for Sunday Dinner on 11th August and it was terrible. We hardly got any meat, a lot of the vegetables had run out, with people standing around waiting for more veg to come out and the rest of the food going cold. Really disappointing visit .

The food in this place is awful roasties are disgusting. The manger does not really care I hope this gets closed soon

Visited on a Wednesday, Curry night, waited nearly an hour for a curry!!, one side of the pub was fairly busy, other half was empty, you should have enough staff in kitchen and servers to service all covers, two out of three meals wrong, used to like this pub, won't be visiting again

Food was not up to much have tried various meals and still i dont like it only good thing about it is its close to home and u can have cake or ice cream they cant ruin that

I reluctantly agreed to dine at this pub as my granddaughter wanted to eat here. As we walked in the smell put me off immediately, also the noise from loud and boisterous children was deafening. We ordered our meals and they arrived promptly. Unfortunately, the presentation was appalling and the food was at best warm and tasteless. Possibly the worst pub meal I have ever had. Needless to say I will not be returning.

Came here for lunch today with hubby & step father. They both ordered Lamb Shank with chips etc and they thoroughly enjoyed their meals!Meat just falling off the bone! I had a very good scampi & chips. We enjoyed our desserts too! It's a very pleasant pub & the staff are always friendly & efficient.

So came out for a family meal as my family normally enjoy coming here, my sister ordered a mix grill med rare and well the steak was med well the gammon was like a hockey puck and overall everything else was burnt. She sent the meal back and it came out 2 minutes later the same meal just the gammon got replaced with another over done steak, this again was sent back as it was still badly burnt, this time just looking at it it seemed fine and until the end it was good until she cut into the sausage and found it to be raw....the staff didn't really seem to care about the quality although it had been sent back twice, and we hardly got an apology

Attended on a Sunday but didn’t have the carvery (big mistake - carvery looked lovely) we ordered a sharer starter, fish and chips and a mixed grill. Honestly the food was awful, we ate most of the starter thinking it was just a crappy starter. Then the mains.. the giant yorkie pudding came and it was frozen so we sent it back, a waitress came over placed the money on the table and walked away with out any words spoken, the fish was tiny and looked as though it had been made hours ago and reheated, chips where cold and the mixed grill was crap. We walked out after a few mouthfuls. A waitress came over as we were getting up to leave and looked at our plates which looked untouched but didn’t say anything. £40 we spent, Fumin at the waste of money!

Just had lunch with my father and sister at the miners Peg.

Booked a couple of tables here for my daughter’s birthday celebrations. The staff were brilliant and couldn’t help us any more, even though they were all rushed off their feet. They appeared very short staffed. The manager was excellent and extremely courteous. Nothing was too much trouble. Pretty good food. Nothing special. The carvery was typically dry and didn’t look particularly appetising. Fairly decent grub with very good staff.

Yay! I want to shout it from the rooftops - Miners Peg was a hit with my hubby! Much to my surprise and delight he suggested we eat here earlier this month. He ordered the burger and I had my favourite- gammon. He said the burger was great and he’d have it again. My gammon was good too. Both meals looked great on the plate, they were nice and hot. The wait wasn’t too long. A much better experience

I simply cannot summon the words to describe how shocking this pub is. We ordered a medium carvery each - which consisted of the dry ends of the meat, extremely limited veg and a couple of greasy potatoes. The sauce bar was dried out, with film over all of the condiments and the mustard looked like cement. To top it off, there were dirty used plates on the sauce bar where we were trying to get our gravy, including used cutlery and napkins - hygiene issue anyone?

The food was fab, I feel sorry for the ppl on the till, why isn't there a till for food orders and a till for drink orders only, waiting ages behind a queue six or seven deep just to order a couple of drinks is so annoying!

We both ordered fish and chips.....fish had a hard black piece running through the centre. Fair enough the waitress did ask was the meal okay but we hadn't eaten much of the fish at that point.

It seems every time my husband decides to take me here we have a not so great experience. When we arrived it wasn’t too busy but soon started to fill up after we’d ordered food.

My friend and I visited the Miners Peg for a light lunch... when we arrived, we were told the extractor in the kitchen was being worked on and only the carvery would be on the menu. My friend asked if it would be possible to order cold food, the waitress checked with the chef and confirmed we could. I ordered two salads.. what we got was two sandwiches, with the correct filling but no salad!..mine was even toasted!.. we did not enjoy our light lunch at all. I really wanted to give this place a good review but came away thinking I probably wouldn’t visit again..I appreciate things can go wrong in the kitchen but to get two simple meals completely wrong is not acceptable. I also felt sorry for the member of staff who obviously was only just getting to grips with the workings of the till... which is why I didn’t complain... also waited way too long for drinks... sorry Miners Peg.. I obviously visited on the wrong day!

Went here for dinner with friends. Had the 2 for £10 and had a medium carvery. Was a generous portion and very tasty. Staff very friendly and nice surroundings.

We had our Christmas dinner here me my partner and our 4 year old son we were a bit wary after reading some of the reviews we were surprised it was really nice we had what was like a mushroom soup to start then our roast dinner the beef and turkey was really good veg potato’s stuffing etc was so tasty i had a kir royal cheesecake, Bakewell tart and ice cream for my son the staff were friendly and helpful and kept checking everything was ok couldn’t fault it hopefully be back for this years Christmas dinner

Starters came had to ask for the dips that come with them to be brought out as they never came with the childs starter. Asked for steak medium to well came out as hard as the plate and black! Carvery was very limited veg. No mash out so asked the lady is there any mash coming out to then be told we had to pay an extra £1.50 if we want mash it doesnt come as standard now. This was on a childs carvary too absolutely shocking Miners Peg

We have been here a number of times and I can honestly say that each time we have been we have never had a full correct complete order, every time there is always things missing, there were only 3 of us and we still couldn't get a complete order, it makes you feel like you are pestering your waiter, we ordered it took nearly 45 mins for our food, I wasn't bothered about the wait but when your food comes out and you haven't even got cutlery then your waiter runs around looking for cutlery while your food goes cold, when he does get back and I had ordered the chicken tikka which is supposed to come with mango chutney, poppadom and naan plus I had ordered chips too, it just came with naan, it must have been sat under the heat lights because the rice was crispy, when he eventually got back I had to asked for the mango chutney, he went to get it, I thought he would bring the chips, but no he didn't, I had to then ask for them, which I then had to wait to be cooked! I didn't want to bother him again for the poppadom. If it states what it comes with on the menu then customers shouldn't have to chase up their order, it is not as if I had asked to swap things or leave things off, it was a straight forward order??

A very warm and comfortable pub, spacious and relaxing. We had medium carvery. The turkey and gammon were fine, the beef however was like shoe leather. We ate at 5.30 and the beef had obviously been there all day. It was fit for the bin. The boiled potatoes were hard and dry, the roasties were ok. Both the gravy containers and the cauliflower cheese container were empty. When the customers have to tell the staff about this, it means the staff are not checking the food often enough. Thus there was a 10 minute wait for these items, which meant food on the plates had gone cold. No replacement food was offered by any 3 of the staff who were aware of the problem.

We've visited the Miners Peg many times since it opened in September 2016, and in that time have tried most dishes on the menu.

We pass this place all the time and have never been in . Well we weren't missing much . Called in with the kids after school , food was very poor , big portions of tasteless food . The staff were ok but just seemed to be going through the motions . wouldnt bother going again

Went for a carvery and there’s Was a good selection of meat and vegetables staff were very good and helpful
