Upon booking I did specify it was for my partners birthday and the waitress even asked when we were seated to confirm whose birthday it was. Unfortunately then, despite this nothing at all was done to acknowledge his birthday. I understand there was a bit of drama with a burst pipe upstairs, this affected our table and as there were no other tables free we did need to go upstairs and eat dessert on the balcony. We were kindly offered a goodwill gesture of free desserts for the inconvenience of us having no table. I was just a little disappointed you mentioned about his birthday then nothing came of it. Good tasty although service was a bit slow with some meals coming out much earlier than others. Kind regards Claire

Absolutely outstanding steak house probably one of the best I’ve been to! The food was absolutely outstanding full of flavour. Our server called Eva was incredible! Pat in the back for her. She was very helpful and extremely kind. I would 100% recommend coming here to try it out. The food came out quite quickly and was stunning!

We were invited to come to Miller & Carter for dinner by our friends and were looking forward to what we thought would be a nice meal but sadly, was not impressed. The food lacked flavour - looked pretty as it was presented well but it tasted of nothing; I had the calamari starter and all I could taste was the mayonnaise sauce that accompanied it. My steak was cooked nicely and the fries were crispy but I couldn't taste the steak or the garlic sauce on top at all and again, whilst the red wine sauce looked nice, it lacked depth and it just tasted a little bit sweet. I don't know whether it was because they were busy and didn't have time or because the food they buy maybe just isn't hitting the mark? I would recommend Positano (Italian) or Steak & Omelette in Plymouth; Both restaurants are fantastic and probably cheaper. For four of us, the bill was nearly £400. We did question mine and my partners because we had the three courses for £33.95 but when looking at the bill, our food had been priced separately, which made it a lot more expensive than we thought it was going to be. This was identified as being a mistake and they did add the reduction but that only took £20 off which still didn't make sense? However, we were out with friends and enjoying the evening with them so didn't want to cause a fuss. The only star of the show was Nikki, our waitress. She was lovely, so friendly and accommodating so thank you to her :).

Amazing service and food. First visit a couple of weeks ago and planning to go again this week. Food was exceptional and for somewhere more expensive it was very reasonable! Loved it!

We arrived (5 of us - one 79 year old, who is also disabled), on a hot day, and were offered a table outside. Due to theheat wave and the fact we were sat next to a car park, we asked to be moved inside. It was EMPTY, and remained that way for the duration of our visit, but the waitress was extremely rude and difficult. She did not want us inside and made it very clear. She refused to let us sit in various places we suggested (remember no other covers) and in the end ‘eventually’ and rudely gestured to a table of ten seats. During this time, my father had to sit down (as he is unable to keep standing for a certain amount of time) - at which point they said he would have to move from there. we sat down and were ready to make our order, but we felt very unwelcome. If my dad didn’t find moving around and travel so painfully difficult, we would certainly have left. Food was bog standard for this type of chain, (although the mushy peas looked like they had been sitting in the sun all day and a questionable colour). one waitress was far more polite - which helped, but we were pleased to be leaving and certainly will never return. Not surprising there was no one else there with that type of welcome.

My friend and I had a lovely evening and enjoyed our food. The staff and our server Nikki was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The other servers all had smiles on their faces and the atmosphere was great. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Good portion sizes. Will be back

We tried this restaurant out over two years ago as my partner is a steak aficionado, we both loved the meal then and we have only just managed to return for another. Our waitress was cheerful, attentive and efficient. Nice comfortable interior. Our food came up quickly, although it's fair to say that it was reasonably quiet at the time. I'm glad that the menu is still much the same as before. The food was of excellent quality and the steaks very tender. My only criticism is that my steak was a "Medium" not a "Medium Well". I chose not to send it back as this would have meant eating at a different time to my partner, and decided to get over my squeamishness and turn a blind eye. I have to say that it was delicious and tender, but to my eye, a little off-putting which detracts from the enjoyment. We made room for desert which was served with a touching little tribute to our special occasion. Hope we don't have to wait so long for a return visit.

Came here with my partner for our anniversary meal. The waitress was very lovely and friendly how ever the rest of our experience was not great. First they didn’t have the starter and the main I wanted which fair enough it was busy how ever no one told us nor was their any signs before we sat and picked. My food then came out but was cold so had to be sent back, my partner had the steak so he ate his so his didn’t go cold but meant we went for a meal together but I had to sit and watch him eat then he had to sit and wait while mine eventually came out, food was nice but the whole point we went for an anniversary meal was to enjoy it together but that was the complete opposite. Considering it’s more expensive than most places you expect the standard to be higher but this was not the case. Probably wouldn’t return.

Definitely worth a visit! friendly staff, and plenty of choices for meat eaters and vegetarians. Desserts are also very good.

Visited for my mum's birthday. We had starters, mains and a couple of us had desserts, food and service was great. As my mum was too full for a dessert, the waitress brought out a plate with happy birthday written in chocolate sauce, with a little fruit and a small pastry so she didn't feel left out. It was a lovely touch which was unexpected!

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at M&C, the staff were amazingly attentive, without being in your face. We had the Showcase Menu. I had the cauliflower wings and my wife had the avocado prawn starter. The avocado dish was a little lacking in avocado but still nice. We both had steaks for our main, fillet and ribeye. Both were perfectly cooked and very tasty. The beef dripping sauce was perfect accomplimant for the meat. We finished the meal with lemon cheesecake and bannoffee pie. Again all food was amazing. The staff treated us to complimentary fizz on arrival and a 25th anniversary board with chocolate sauce ( see the photo). The wine choice was an Argentinian malbec a great tasting wine. We would thoroughly recommend M&C.

Just scraped a 4 Went with my wife and friends, 2 of the orders were for steak well done, on arrival all looked good, first cuts from the ends were according to them both was brilliant, then it went wrong, the middle was a lovely shade of pink. A waiter was called, very apologetic and seemed genuinely concerned, both plates were taken away to be 'sorted' When the plates were returned all appeared OK, but both said although they were now well done they were not exceptional, my wife did finish hers. We have no idea how the steaks were recooked to bring them from internally rare to well done, but it was surprising that a company which has a reputation for steak could get this so badly wrong, as after all they expect you to pay good money for their food. It took took the edge off the evening which is a shame, as the staff and service was excellent. If it wasn't for this one thing I would have given a score of 5. We will give them another chance, as hopefully this is a one off.

We used to come here often but over the last 18 months we thought the quality of food had gone downhill so we visited less frequently. However, we came on a Sunday lunchtime more recently and thought the food had got a bit better, for the first time in a long time the onion loaf was not a black, burnt to a cinder, mess. Someone however needs to tell the more mature waitress that she is beyond rude. She is loud and over the top helpful at your table but we spent 2 hours sat near the bar and kitchen listening to her gossip so rudely about each of her tables, it was entertaining for no more than 5 minutes, it was embarrassing to listen to. We even over-tipped for fear of how rude she would be about us. Ant chance, when its quiet that 2 people can be sat on a table for 4 rather than in awkward spaces and corners? But, food definitely better, the 3 stars is because of your rude staff member.
