Been fancying trying here for a while. My son in law booked it for a belated birthday meal for me. (Sunday roast) the food was nice and good quality. It was served quickly and staff were polite. The disappointment was that the food was barely like warm. It should be piping hot. The toilets were a let down. Seat lid closing on you . And water/pee all over the floor. And floor dirty.

We have visited The Mill on many occasions and always been more than happy with our meal but not so this time. Our food was of good quality but was spoilt because it was only warm not hot. My meat was cold, everything else was just luke warm apart from the roast potatoes. At no point were we asked if everything was ok or I would have pointed this out, even when we paid the bill we weren’t asked, which normally we are. Another point is that we were seated upstairs where we have never been before and we found it to be very dark, we struggled to read the menu.

Went for Sunday lunch Booked 15.00-17.00 slot We all had garlic mushrooms to start. Delicious My friends enjoyed their roast pork dinners My roast beef was dry and I felt overcooked but my other friend enjoyed his. At 16.30 the bill was plonked on the table. We said that we had not been offered desert. No offer came. We asked for coffee and were told that the coffee machine was off Tea ? The hot water machine was not working !! Very disappointing. Will not be returning

Hadn’t been here for years as I don’t go past this way very often and hadn’t realised it was back serving pub food again (apparently for the last 6 years!! Where have I been??) I love the historical building and the warm feel to the place. As you walk in you can see inside the kitchen, which I like. Good range of drinks, nice feel to the place, very welcoming. We were taken straight to our table and offered drinks shortly after. The waiting staff looked after us well. The food….. great! Honest home cooked pub food. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our starters and mains. My son had the Beef Wellington, my wife and daughter had the lamb shank and I had the house burger. Couldn’t fault any of it and could recommend them all. I would highly recommend this restaurant. I think it’s value for money considering the quality of the food and service offered. Give it a try!

WOW this is a hidden gem, called in for my son’s birthday and it was amazing. The pub itself is beautiful if you like oldy worldly type pubs apparently the oldest in England, once given the menus a page at the front of the menu is a story of the building which I thought was great, saved me googling it like I always do. Great choice of food to choose from and drinks. I chose the Trio of lamb and it was superb I’d safely say one of the best meals I’ve had in a restaurant by far my son had the same and my husband had (I think it was called) Monk Burger which he said was really good as well. Staff were really friendly and attentive. I am most definitely going to go back.

This was supposed to be an anniversary meal ..... it was an absolute disaster..... we have been before and had no issues but this time ..... we finished our staters and asked if the main could be about 20mins to a half hour ..... reasonable request..... on the waitress return ..... she came with the mains ...... seriously we hadn't had 5 minutes after our stater ...... neither of us could eat our main so we sent it back to keep warm ..... in hindsight we should have just refused it ...... it came back at our request 20 minutes later .... the coleslaw was missing and it was like warmish ..... enough said we ate a bit but left it...... no one asked if we were ok, we were in and out in about an hour 15 mins, I've seriously spent longer in McDonalds and had better food and customer service....... we explained how we felt several times ...... sometimes an apology is not enough, " I'm sorry " doesn't cut it, no refund, no nothing...... here's one couple that will not be going back and won't be recommending

I ordered the chorizo and halloumi starter which had clearly been zapped in the microwave. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t a bowl of random crap covered in horrible sauce. It was like they had a fridge clear out and made a starter out of it. I ordered the Tuscan chicken pasta and for £17 I would have hoped it was the best bowl of pasta I’d ever have…how wrong was I. The chef came out bragging about his culinary expertise to a couple on the next table and basically patting himself on the back for cooking their steaks, meanwhile everyone has had mediocre food. Maybe spend less time bragging and applauding yourself and focus on getting the basics right.

We were blown away when entering the building as it’s beautifully historic. As a family run business all the staff were lovely and very attentive. The Sunday lunch did not disappoint! Our only critique is we were too full for dessert but will return when next in the area to enjoy the normal menu in the week. Thank you for being the perfect ending to our trip up north.

Make better at home, beef had no colour and tasteless, the mash looked like it had been under headlamp with a shine to it and luck warm and the cauliflower cheese tasted sour

Visited on a Friday night whilst staying over with a friend ahead of the football the next day. Booked our table online. On arrival was greeted by a friendly member of the waiting staff. We were a little early so we were asked to wait and could get a drink from the bar. No problem with that. I’m a real ale drinker so would have liked a local ale, sadly had to have a lager but the Cruzcampo was spot on. Once seated we perused the menu. Not too many choices but we opted for the trio of lamb and 3 way pork medley. Both meals were spot on. Freshly cooked, nice veg, delicious gravies and very tasty. It was fairly busy in there and a pleasant ambience. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good to see some Gluten Free options on the menu also. Would recommend if in the area and looking for a quality meal.

Easter Sunday lunch to celebrate a 30th birthday in the family - the food and service were absolutely 'spot on' and the Yorkshire Puddings were to die for, both as a starter and also with our Sunday roast. The at table staff were so efficient and lovely. Booking is advised as it can get really busy! We have driven past the establishment literally hundreds of times and have never been before but this certainly won't be our last visit!

Avoid like the plague ! Twice now this has happened where staff will have you standing for half an hour at a time and serve other people before you also when this was questioned the staff were extremely rude

We decided to go to Elsecar heritage centre on Sunday for a walk and a wander. It was crazy busy, and thought we would walk around the village. We dropped in on The Crown Inn, and was pleased to see such a nice cozy local pub still operating and serving good food. Next time we will pop in for a bite to eat. Well stocked beers and 3 pumps dedicated to guest beers. V.happy. Service was lovely and healthy banter and discussions with the locals. Keep up the great work.

Good range of food at reasonable prices. The venue is quite nice and the service was good. Plenty of people in there without being overcrowded so the atmosphere was good too.

Had a lovely lunch with 20% off due to a November deal. Really good food, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Music playing and cosy feeling. All the customers seemed happy Really enjoyable afternoon. Free parking and a minute away from a historic church and walks.
