Fantastic tradition village pub with character and dining to match. Here with my two daughters for a birthday celebration. Staff were warm and friendly, food was excellent and the ambiance lovely. Lovely warm fire and comfortable seating. Tables were cleaned immediately after diners and service was impecable. Definitely going back for another bite

For many local folk The Withy Mill was the place to go for great basket meals, especially their chicken and chips in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Safe to say, it is still wonderful today, they have altered the menu from back in the day, but safe to say chicken and chips is still on it. However, I would love to see a retro style menu with prawn cocktail etc on the starter menu. Perhaps less fancy meals for the mains and more basket meals. It was slightly over priced however, but then again you do get to eat your food either out in the beautifully kept garden with stream running through it or in the charming clean pub with lots of antiquities to look at. The Samuel Smith beer and larger were very nice and the staff very friendly, attentive and kind. I ate the fish and chips and can safely say it was better than Simpsons in Cheltenham and Steins Fish and Chips in Padstow. Thank you for the lovely lunch team Mill.

Visited on a sunny Sunday afternoon, me and my friends are visiting the Cotswolds for the week and stumbled across this pub and was amazed with the beer garden! Was delighted to see they was selling Sunday roasts, we ordered our meals and drinks after finding a table outside. We ordered 2 trio roasts and one of our party ordered the famous chicken in a basket that was recommended as a special. All I can say is we left satisfied! Food was amazing and came out about 20 minutes later which surprised us as it was very busy. Drinks were reasonably priced and very refreshing, I would recommend the raspberry and cranberry sparkling drink! Next time we come back to the Cotswolds we will be stopping by the mill inn again on a Sunday for their fabulous Sunday lunch!

Very disappointing. Pub looked lovely from the front and had a large garden but outside area was unkempt and tired. Ordered roast pork which arrived without the advertised roast potatoes or crackling. Meat was poor quality, veg overcooked, roast potatoes so hard they were inedible and even the dog wouldn’t eat the Yorkshire pudding. Husband’s burger was equally poor. Wine list is limited to one white, one red and a Rosé. Definitely would not recommend for food.

So disappointed!! Come on Sam Smiths!! Probably prettiest pub in South West, famous for its basket meals. Only option available chicken and chips in basket ( still available for £16.95). A large glass of white wine and a pint of squash £14.90, really? Had microwave meal of lambs liver £15.50 really tough but so hungry I ate everything, land lady and location fab! But please do what it says on tin! So disappointed been coming here for over 40 years and very disappointed!! Give us back our reasonably priced pub!!

During on our walk we stopped in for lunch, the building is a beautiful traditional English pub with an old fashioned open fire, the staff were very welcoming. We had Trio of Roast and Scampi and chips, which was very good, the only let down was the 2 roast potatoes and they weren't par boiled so they weren't fluffy with crispy, it was nice to have a proper home made yorkshire pudding and the meat portitions were generous. We plan on visiting again.

2nd visit and 2nd time there was dogs muck in the pub garden, assuming it’s the owners. Surely a check before the pub opens would be a good idea. I reported this to the bar girl but she didn’t seem bothered and it was still there when we left an hour later. Families with young children beware if they are running around the garden. The dog was out of control when we arrived, the landlady couldn’t catch it and she was running around in her dressing gown trying to catch it, awkward. The pub opening time should be 12pm but opened at 12.05/12.10pm. when you’ve been on a long walk and you’re thirsty and hungry, not great. I was the first one in the ladies toilet and it clearly had’t been cleaned from the night before, not great just before I’m about to eat. The chicken in a basket wasn’t great, baskets not great neither was the chicken. Won’t be returning.

Being locals we thought to try the mill again having given up going due to the awful food and ridiculously expensive poor quality drinks (it’s all Samual Smith) that we’d experienced two landlords ago. It’s such a shame that this wonderful building is let down by the below average food ( how is it possible to have soggy and burnt fish at the same time), lack lustre welcome from the new landlady and incredibly expensive drink. We gave it a go but will not be back. Judging by the lack of clientele I think perhaps we’re not the only ones that have abandoned this place

Love the very old building and wouldn’t change a thing or it would lose its character. Under new management and a full overview of menu would be welcome to include a wider variety of vegetarian/vegan dishes. A cask ale may draw in more custom. Very pleasant landlady. Meal very expensive for what we had and a bit of flexibility wouldn’t have gone amiss e.g. swap anchovies for halloumi instead of charging extra…which made the bowl of lettuce way overpriced!

We returned to the Mill after a year or so during which much needed renovations had taken place, but happily most of the old world charm and character has been retained. Due to making better progress than anticipated on a walk, we arrived earlier than our reservation time. No problem, rather than having to wait we were offered an alternative table and drinks arrived. We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu, Pork roast, Beef roast, Scampi and fries, and our fourth member,a vegan, who had liaised the previous day over options available, confirmed she would have the vegan wellington. Our dishes arrived shortly afterwards, all generously portioned, beautifully cooked and presented. We were pleasantly surprised to find that even with the addition of three deserts and a round of drinks the total cost was less than £25 per head, very good value indeed. Highly recommended

A little off the beaten track but a lovely drive through pretty Cotswold villages to visit the Old Mill sitting on the River Coln. A good pub menu and good value. We mainly had scampi & chips which were delicious with one veggie choice. Our family came here for lunch today after my daughter got her A level results. It's s decent pub with decent pub food - which is just what we wanted. Too many pubs around this area don't actually feel like pubs anymore and whilst I appreciate they have to make their money on food - unless they feel like pubs, they lose their attraction and they are nothing more than (in many cases) just overpriced restaurants. The Mill has got the balance right - a good pub with decent, value for money food. And the service was great too - two lovely lads served us. Landlords in the making. :-)

This should and could be an amazing pub as it is a beautiful building, in an amazing setting. Sadly the beer is terrible. No real ale and rubbish lager. The cider tasted like watered down vinegar. It has been this way for a ling time. Very few people from the local area (10-20 miles away) visit as we know the reputation. If the owners put some effort, money and imagination in this pub could be amazing again.

We met here with friends and from the moment we all arrived it was great, the welcome was warm, the atmosphere relaxed, the locally sourced food [pheasant casserole] tasty and plentiful; the landlady was friendly and attentive and all in an oldy worldy setting [parts dating back to the 1600s] just wish we lived nearer as we would definitely visit again.

We popped in for lunch when we were passing as we loved the 16th century building. The pub has a cosy interior and a huge open fire. The steak and ale pies are good and staff are very friendly.

Lovely setting and friendly landlady but food pretty indifferent and Limited. Enormous log fire very appealing but somehow venue lacking in sparkle.

We visited for Sunday lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the food. The surroundings are definitely rather tired and the drinks very basic but the roast and the basket meals were fine. It would be good to include some form of veg with the scampi and chips; the roast had plenty.

Good food... portions a little stingy this time. Issue is every time we go we call before to check they're still doing food...only to get there and have them state the kitchen is closed?! This has been happening for months...need to get their act together.

Booked a party of 14 for a 60th birthday lunch midweek for the upcoming Saturday and we're kindly given our own dining room to celebrate in without extra charge including a roaring log fire!!. The staff and owners were extremely welcoming and the service and food was excellent.

Welcoming pub for a cold wet and windy winter's day. Cosy setting with good value food and Sam Smith's Tadcaster Bitter. Mulled wine was also a popular choice today! Well worth a brief detour off the A40.

Fantastic overall experience. Well presented pub with a fantastic atmosphere and great food! The majority of the food was handmade and it all tasted delicious. Very high quality food and large portions. We were encouraged to customise the food we ordered which is a big help to those who have specific dietary requirements. The member of staff that greeted us upon entering the Black Lion was very friendly and created a welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back soon! Thank you!

Booked an evening meal whilst staying in log cabin near by. Large portions of home cooked food, quick service and friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced, in fact we were surprised and were expecting to pay more for the quality. The decor is lovely as well, quite cozy on an autumn evening. Will definitely return next time we are in the area
