This chip shop is dirty how did the get a 5 star rating, the chip portion are terrible a large doesn’t even feed 2 adults, portions are well over priced. It’s filthy in there.

Chips were full of hard bits. All in all I expect more for my money. I read that they are going for award maybe things have improved since my visit, but I will not be going there again.

Quick service, clear menu and options (fish skin on or off etc), polite and friendly staff. Altogether a positive atmosphere. Fab packaging, the food was still too hot to eat even though it took me over half an hour to get home. Delicious fish and perfect chips, neither were soggy even though it was in the same box. Curry sauce is perfectly thick for dipping and tastes amazing too. Best fish and chips I've ever had!

Amazing fish and chips! Having grown up in the North East I've been spoiled for good fish and chips, but Mike's is consistently of a high standard and has been our go-to chippy for several years now. Friendly staff and a good loyalty card system too.

We've eaten everywhere, all through UK and Europe.. Fish n chips in the great London city are called the best.. WRONG .. Mike's is our huge family's favourite.. ALWAYS FRESH.. ALWAYS TASTY.. ALWAYS FULFILLING.. ALWAYS RESPECTFUL STAFF.. ALWAYS CLEAN .. Only once was there a minor problem, and next visit was given my order for free with a smile and an apology.. WE KNOW FOOD.. Absolutely shocked by the food. This place has truly gone down rapidly. I dont know what oil they are using to fry items, but it needs to change. Horrible fish, which was mushy and the batter was very dark and tasted bad. Never again will I order from here.

Oh Dear This used to be the go to Chippy but something is seriously off, the chips were hardly cooked almost white and limp the reg cod much smaller than usual, fishcake was like cardboard & apparently the pea fritter was not good, we were members here but won't be back after this £25 family meal time to tear up the card !

No idea how this got awarded best chippy ordered a regular cod and chips was awful the fish was so thin and small hardly any fish was undercooked with gooey batter and undercooked chips was the worst fish and chips I have ever had in my life very poor quality indeed for the high prices

Second visit. First was fine. This one was appalling. One large, one regular cod, large chips...£20.10. Regular cod had batter which was undercooked and raw, floury, on inside, large was the thinest fillet possible. Any thinner and it would've been invisible. So all batter miniscule cod. First time, cooked to order. All of this came off the shelf in seconds. Oh, very soggy chips. 1700 hours approx...Friday 16th.

Not sure about the bad reviews, I had a great experience. We had chips, sausage, battered sausage, fishcake and two types of pies. Everything was very good, couldn't fault anything. Nice, friendly staff as well, even just before closing. Thanks Mike's and thanks to all your staff.

There was a problem with one of the cookers. They put notices around and pointed it out to customers and apologised to each person for the delay. Very friendly atmosphere and great fish and chips x x x x x

Was the best Chip shop in the area has gone downhill a bit recently. Good selection of things to choose from. Curry sauce not the best taste wise ( also was cold like it came out of the fridge). Items recently have been far to oilly need draining better (bags and food are dripping in oil). Shame was my favourite chippy.

About What I expect from a chip shop, chips mixed lot of normal fatty chips and some dried bits, they taste fine, usually have cod roe, which usually fine, sometimes the batter isn't so good

We have been using this chip shop for many years, all the way back to when it was Nicks. The quality of the food, the service and everything all is fab. I have to say being local I am very proud to support the business and proud of their achievements. All in all a top chippy !

Our local chippy … how lucky are we! The food is beautifully cooked, MSC sustainable fish wrapped in crispy light batter. Delicious. Chips are tasty but not greasy. Servings are generous. Never disappoints. Staff are welcoming cheerful friendly attentive people. We love it!

Lovey chips really nice quality fish which is cooked to order. Lovely little touches with signs telling you what potato is currently in use and current wait time! Also well worth joining the VIP scheme where you get regular perks and offers! Great that they do Haddock again!

I travel four miles, past several others, to collect fish and chips from the best place around here. Excellent food, jovial staff and a nice selection of choices, sizes and extras to pick from.

We love Mikes! We walk 3 miles to get the best fish and chips ever, sit by the river to eat them and then walk home. Calorie free?! Always delicious x

Best batter I have had crisp but not oily rally great stuff

I was very surprised to just read such negative reviews. I usually only use one chip shop near my home in west end but tonight was out on the road so tried it and very much LOVED IT. No greasy vile chips absolutely not! I have to say you can tell why they have so many awards I was reading all the stuff on the walls - a very very popular place by the read! AND very pleasant happy staff no complaints at all. I highly recommend.

The establishment was recommended with trip advisor and word of mouth. Unfortunately, my experience was awful. The product was so oily that the paper bag was saturated with oil to such an extent that I had to wash the rubber mat in my car. Singularly bad experience

Lovely meal of haddock and scampi with chips. Despite being busy served within the time they said would have to wait service with a smile.

Ordered a takeaway 3 times. First two times was good but the 3rd I got half a fish coated in solid, inedible batter. Not bothering again, getting fed up with inconsistent food, most takeaways nowadays are awful.

One of the few places that does pea and Spam fritters. Both delicious!

Had an absolutely delightful meal from mikes today! Staff were amazing and polite and were very helpful in offering recommendations. All in all lovely staff, lovely food, lovely experience would recommend to anyone!

I agree with other reviewers that our lovely local chippy has gone down the hill. We’ve ordered from here for the last 2 years and fish and chips used to be the best ever. We were thinking things will improve but after today I don’t think we will come here any more. The fish is often quite oily and all the oil needs blotting out every time so the fish is actually edible. Today however it was so overcooked and dry (as per photos) it was not enjoyable to eat whatsoever. Really disappointed and will not be coming back.

The food i ordered was definately not 'cooked to order'. The chips were awful, had clearly been hanging around for a considerable time. Shop was very quiet, probably wanted to use up what was cooked even tho they had gone past the point of no return. Battered sausage was okish. Overall very disapointing meal, would not recommend or ever return

Sadly a very dire experience. Chips looked and tasted like they had been cooked about a week ago and probably longer. Loads of bad bits. Battered sausage ok ish, had to eat something. Disappointing when your hungry and looking forward to a decent meal. Not been to this shop for years and won't be rushing back for many more years Total waste of Money. Worse thing we're still hungry and out of pocket. On a positive note, the lad that served us seemed pleasant enough

Went in and ordered a fish and chips I was the only person in there A few others came in & they forgot about my order I waited 25 minutes watching everyone else leave after I had initially ordered Then the chips were naff & the fish was okay.. Not my best experience, although it’s been pretty good before But this experience has made me doubt going again

This is my local Fish & Chip shop, and I'm pleased to say that it's as good as it gets.

Gone down hill in my opinion. Previously, fish has always been cooked fresh. Visited last Friday and after a 10 minute wait, supposedly for the fish to be cooked I was served a very dry piece of cod from the cabinet I’d been looking at for the whole time!! Chips are poor too - not many ‘proper’ chips just lots of little crunchy bits as if they’ve come from the bottom of the tray. Not good guys - try to get back to where you were when you first came to a Bishopstoke!

10/10 for the fish it was beautiful. Such light, fresh and crisp batter. Really tasty. Chips were ok. Overall very good experience.

First time in a long time, food was good not brilliant, service was excellent and fairly quick ,staff were polite and friendly.

Ive ordered from Mikes for the past 30+ years and they have been fantastic. But the last 18months the portion of the fish has decreased significantly to the point were I had to write this review. The portions have halved in size compared to 2 years ago and the price has gone up to £12.30 for a portion of chips and very small cod. Won’t be ordering again.

Great fish and chips, shame about the wait but I expect that means it cooked fresher.

Food is consistently great and always freshly prepared. I think a true sign of a good fish and chip shop is a queue, depicting freshly cooked food, Mike's always has a queue, which the staff serve quickly, what more can i say!

the haddock was moist and mushy - the chips were to stale and unseasoned after they asked me if i wanted salt or pepa - didnt sell stellas for me to take home

I think things have changed always used to have really good fish today the fish still had skin on and was flat unusual batter as if it was from a frozen pack not happy ☹️

Only place I know that sells hake and hoki. Cheaper than cod and much nicer! Cooked to order in 5-10 minutes and off home for our lovely Friday night dinner!

Tasty tasty chips! You can taste why they did so well in competition. Usual selection for a chippy, but with great fresh quality produce used. Highly recommended.

Just got the chips a large portion and plenty of chips! Hot and fresh and chunky

Chips were undercooked and had many black eyes still in the potatoes. I don't understand how the place got rewards in the past. Maybe I was unlucky on the day.

The service was dour staff were just not interested, the size of a large cod was small and thin , and we will never go back ,after many years of patronage

First time trying this place out as my usual place was closed for annual holiday so thought I’d check out the last remaining chippy out in the area.. This is my honest review of the place… looked clean and tidy inside the place and well looked after! Price i thought was rather expensive for small portion of chips and amount that you get for it and didn’t go by much for the quality of them either didn’t like the fact they put them in a pain simple cardboard box instead of like a paper bag or even just wrapped up in paper fish and chips paper… battered sausages were good and good batter on them Customer service wise was okay, would of been nice to have been asked how much salt and vinegar on the chips and not much customer interaction..

Always good food, fresh cooked and good service. The hake they are currently serving as an alternative is really delicious! I go for that every time now and even my husband is becoming a convert.
