We arrived in Glasgow unexpectedly late in the evening. We met Jen on the train and she kindly led us to Mikaku. She called ahead to check that we could get food as she was heading there herself. Our server ,Kat, understood that we needed our food in a hurry and managed to get it sent through quickly . The wine was good, and the food. Eve came and checked that we were all OK. So,in short, the food was excellent and the 3, Jen,Kat and Eve, made it a stress free and enjoyable time. Would definitely recommend.

Was initially very excited to visit, the aesthetic of the restaurant is indeed very pretty…but that’s about it… My friend and i were let down by the food quality. We found the food quite tasteless, dry… and cold… Portions were okay-ish, but we didn’t really feel like finishing up our meal or taking our leftovers home... We were left disappointed!

Went for diner, with a reservation, and that was a really nice experience. The design of the place is something to see and you really fell like your in a japaness street. The food was great and the staff nice and helpful. There wasn't a lot a people that evening so the ambiance must be something else with more customer. Perfect for solo traveler/eater.

I recently visited Maikaku on Queen Street, Glasgow, for a lunchtime meal, and I was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout my visit. The service was prompt, and the team went out of their way to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The lunchtime menu offered excellent value for money, with generous portions and high-quality dishes that exceeded my expectations. Whether you're in the mood for katsu curry or ramen dishes, there's something for everyone. Overall, Maikaku is a gem in the city centre, and I will definitely be returning soon!

My husband and I "stumbled over" this lovely Japanese restaurant. We both ordered chicken breast katsu. The food was served after just a few minutes, and it was just as delicious as it looked. What is even more amazing is that it tasted just as delicious as when I had the same dish in Kyoto, Japan! The staff is so friendly and everything was clean and tidy, and beautifully designed. The prices are fair, and the amount of food was just right. Loved everything about this very authentic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Glasgow.

The place has the atmosphere of a Japanese district, which is especially impressive in the evening. Unfortunately, I wouldn't add the ramen offered by the restaurant to my list of favorites. Currently, even wagamama offers better taste. The broth was practically colored water and the amount of ingredients was slightly disappointing. The price of the food seems to be adequate to its content.

Dropped in, without a reservation, on a Saturday afternoon. The place was busy but they did shuffle things about so we could get a seat. Food was delicious…pickles, cucumber salad, chicken karaage, pork gyozas, and as recommended by our very friendly server, the king prawn and beef fillet from the robatayaki. Portion sizes were great - we were sharing 6 plates between two and it worked really well. Another review mentioned it was hard to get staff’s attention and I would agree with that, but they were all busy and we didn’t wait long at all. Everything was fresh and full of flavour. Would recommend.

Had heard great things but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype at all. Every single dish we received was cold. All together everything was so bland despite lots of sauce. We visited Mikaku on our last evening in Scotland with our two kids (4 and 8 years old). The restaurant is amazing, the food was delicious, the service and staff were outstanding andthe ambient looked gorgeous and its even has a special area especially for kids in the back, with a small indoor playground. I absolutely recommend this restaurant to be visited with families, however when it comes to the food for the kids make sure to find something not too spicy, or you could ask the staff to adjust. All of the food and drinks we ordered was absolutely delicious, the only thing i could imagine for improvement would be to add more vegetarian options. If we ever come back to Glasgow, we will definetly visit again. If you ever plan to go, maie sure to make a reservation, since it will be full.

My friend and I visited after seeing the reviews were becoming mixed for this place. We had previously ate at Mikaku maybe a year or two before and had a great experience. Sadly, the reviews were right. I couldn't believe how this place had slipped in quality and experience. We were disappointed the robatayaki section was off but we understood that could happen. I had; steamed gyozas, chicken karaage and the sando ebi katsu. The chicken karaage was similar to the pork katsu where all the batter fell off and it just felt like big lumps of greasy chicken. I would suggest lessoning the portion size, batter and adding some more spices to the batter. The steamed gyozas were good despite mine being fried on the bottom which I felt was strange. The biggest disappointment was the sando ebi katsu. I knew it could be a risk as I had an amazing shrimp sandwich in Japan. This didn't live up to it, the sandwich lacked so much flavour all you could taste was the cucumber. The sauce and salty coleslaw provided didn't help the flavour. The one in Japan had a creamy sweet coleslaw in the sandwich with a flavoured omelette, the shrimp also wasn't formed into a patty. The service was mixed, our waiter was great and did their job well but we found it hard to get their attention at times as they were at the other end of the restaurant. For the sake, we really missed the trio sample sakes we got last time. They were perfect for a drink we didn't know much about and really added to the experience last time. I really hope this place picks up again as I've had a few really good nights with good food and sake. The movie and meal idea is really inventive but this experience has put me off wanting to go for now.

The staff on hand were very attentive all throughout our dinner and good at explaining all the different options. We ordered a bowl of Furikake Fries, Chicken Karaage, Sweet Soy and Sesame Wings along with a bowl of Ramen noodles each. All the food was lovely although i didn't really like the Ramen Noodles but that was me trying something different so i will stick to the Katsu Curry next time but the rest of the meal was delicious. The cocktails were a bit on the expensive side but they packed a punch so again we have no complaints. Think it’s more of a basic student place, not good for Japanese food. Service was terrible, had to keep trying to get any of the staffs attention to order and then our food turned up with no cutlery, 10 mins later finally got some. My partners ramen was fine but my chicken was greasier than a kfc ! The other meat was raw and inedible, also greasy. We initially waited for service after coming in for 10 mins and should’ve been the sign to walk out and I wish we did and saved our money on food we could eat. Avoid at all costs !

Visited in July '24 for lunch. Spotted this restaurant during a walk about the city centre. The internal décor is eye catching and looks inviting. However, we were quite disappointed with the cuisine. The food looks appealing based on the photos by the door however we found the Katsu curry to not contain vegetables, packed with spring onions. We made the mistake of ordering Mint Soda & that left it much to be desired. Their bathroom was clean however their water taps were boiling, it was steaming at one point which isn't great for hand hygiene. The servers were pleasant and friendly and they were knowledgeable with what they had in stock as some meals were unavailable. Couples or 2 diners are usually seated at 'the bar' which was ok given the theme; but wouldn't be rushing to this establishment for Japanese food.

I will definitely not go there. They lost a customer just by the way she treated me . Very angry person and if that’s any indication of how they treat prospective customers. I've been to mikaku a few times with my little boy. We loved it because it because it had good vegan options on a separate menu and the kids menu does a great wee bento box with noodles and tofu that my son loves. The soft play room is great too! I booked Mikaku with my family (half of whom are vegan) and unfortunately they'd changed the menu and taken away the separate vegan menu. It wasn't clear from the menu what options were vegan and my son's favourite meal had been removed from the kids menu. There was a mix up with a family members order which didn't get fixed in the end and we had to ask the item to be removed from our bill. Overall the food was pretty average and not as tasty as it has been when I've been to mikaku previously. However, the front of house staff are lovely, great with kids, friendly and attentive. Please bring back your vegan menu and your tofu kids option!

Booked Mikaku for our Son's 21st Birthday Dinner. He is a big fan of Japanese food so was really looking forward to the visit. From the moment we arrived we could see this was not going to be fun experience we had hoped for. On arrival we were met at the door by someone who greeted us with "Alright Mate". Was taken to our table which for 3 people was very small and not a great deal of space for anything (especially when the dishes started coming out). Had to ask for side plates, spoons for the ramen were not on the table and the server had to go and get some. We ordered drinks and several dishes together with two small bowls of Ramen (chicken and pork). Presentation of the dishes was good, chicken, beef etc was cooked well but every dish was TASTELESS! Furikake Fries - limp and not a great deal of taste. Chicken Karaage - chicken and batter was tasteless and powdery. Togarashi & Sesame Chicken Wings - spicy but again not seasoned enough. Pork Gyoza (fried) - surprisingly delicious Robatayaki Beef Fillet Ginger - average Ramen - Miso Black Chicken - greasy and tasteless. Ramen - Pork Tonkotsu - greasy and tasteless. Chicken Breast Katsu Curry - Looks good and panko coating was well done - chicken was cooked well but lacked in taste and it was not sticky rice and the sauce tasted like it came from a packet. Ebi Menchi Katsu Curry - Again looked good and the panko coating was well done - plenty prawns within the panko dressing but lacked in taste and it was not sticky rice and the sauce tasted like it came from a packet! We ordered some further drinks (soft and alcoholic) but the order was not put in as it had been forgotten so had to ask again!. Had to ask for finished plates to be removed as there was not enough space on the table. Given this was a 21st Birthday Dinner and we had added that in the notes when booking no acknowledgement was made on arrival or during the dinner. The place just did not feel the cleanest of places, the toilets could do with being checked more regularly as it did not feel as clean as it should have been. Definitely needs to look at running more smoothly. This felt more like a canteen approach rather than a enjoyable restaurant feel. Would we rush back - definitely not! Overall very disappointing for what looks like and should be a very authentic Japanese vibe. Also, on departure didn't really want to hear "thanks Mate have a good night!"

We ordered two lemonades, each £2.50 coming in the tiniest glasses I've ever seen, almost entirely full of ice. We also ordered the chashu don and cauliflower karaage. The cauliflower was the only thing worth ordering and was genuinely really nice. The chashu don had all of the sauce at the bottom and the pork was incredibly fatty, more fat than meat. We got some fried garlic on the side which tasted old. When telling the waitress that we didn't like the pork she laughed. One of the dishes we ordered was good but the rest was like microwave meals. Service was friendly but bit awkward on arrival when everyone's squashed at the door with diners next to you

Lovely restaurant, really liked the street food decor. Staff were excellent. Had the £7.95 lunch offer which is brilliant value, will definitely return

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, and our waitress ( a blond lady dressed with a white shirt with a flower on the back) could not have been more lovely and helpful, ten out of ten!

Ok let me start by if u ask for extra spice they charge u a pound for the sauce but over all would highly recommend this place for the amazing pork ramen ive eaten, the supercool staff and the lovely atmosphere /decor. If your confused about what u need to order ...blindly order the ramen(couldnt have been more satisfied). However, i love spice so may vary depending according to your preference ...the price is alright ....

Terrible service from the beginning, the girl looked stressed, she gave us an unsuitable place, with children, we didn't like the girl's attitude, she must be friendly from the moment you enter. bad attitude we will not return

This place is absolutely fantastic! Firstly, the food is not only delicious but also reasonably priced. The service is extremely polite and helpful, which further enhances the atmosphere. However, the greatest asset of this place is the children's play area. My daughter feels right at home here! It's already been four hours, and she still doesn't want to leave. That's the best recommendation for this place - when a child enjoys spending time here so much, it means it's really great. I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a place where you can eat well, have a good time, and provide great entertainment for children!

I’m Japanese. I think Mikaku is the one of the best Japanese restaurants. They serve authentic and delicious Japanese food. I also like interior decoration.

Staff were absolutely fantastic!! The food was kind of a let down sadly - EDIT: been in here twice since the first time and sadly the food has not improved. Being 'instagrammable' isn't worth it.

I saw this place recommended on Instagram, I love this type of food, so was looking forward to trying. The gyozas and the seasoned chips were the only parts of the meal that were enjoyable. The ramen in the main was overly oily, and the pork in the other main was watery and inedible, it for sent back and was refunded. The staff were nice and understanding, and the restaurant certainly looked the part, but the food just wasn't up to par. I won't go back, and I wouldn't recommend it. Even for a cheap lunch, go up the road to nippon and get a bento box.

The food is delicious, although the karaage chicken is a bit salty for my liking. The ambiance gives a delightful Japanese vibe, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff members are nice.

Ordered some Chashu Don rice with pork belly. The rice came half cooked and hard as rock, and the pork belly was too salted. I think I can cook it better. The manager was called to attend the matter, he spoke to us and later went to the kitchen but he never came back. As a manager you must take care of your customers and return with a solution. So far the worse place I have been in Glasgow 😷.

It was a great looking place with a good atmosphere, but the food was decidedly average. The gyozas were the best bit and the miso garlic ramen was tasty but didn’t have the variety of toppings I’ve had at other Japanese places. Don dish and Korean chicken were average and we had a side of pork belly which was cold and rubbery. We wouldn’t return

If you are wondering whether to eat here or not, spare yourself the pain. Otherwise visit for the decor and few drinks, you won’t be disappointed. The ramen is terrible, made out of instant noodles and watery broth. I ordered a Tonkotsu ramen and couldn’t eat it, that is how bad it was. I could only describe it as offensive, to be charged £14 for a watery ramen made out of instant noodles, honestly I am still in shock. If you want a good ramen do yourself a favour and go eat at Ramen Dayo, real noodles, flavoursome broth and you will also get the atmosphere.

Sloppy service from the service staff who look like they don’t want to be there. I didn’t enjoy my meal, fatty pork and barely any curry sauce on my katsu curry, waited 15-20 mins longer to get my 3 chicken gyozas (to be fair they took this off the bill). The cocktails were crap too. I won’t go back, the atmosphere isn’t great and overall it was disappointing.

Been going to this place every so often since it first opened way back when. Found out about the sushi school via a gift website. Had a little trouble calling (voicemail always full) and the emails took a few goes and some to-ing and fro-ing, but eventually got booked. The class is a proper laugh. You make LOADS of sushi, the menu was altered slightly as we had some vegans in the group, but those who also defo wanted to make meat sushi were still able to. Staff were informative and lovely,

Nice setting within Merchant square. Despite being quiet on arrival had to look for staff to get seated. Staff member not overly friendly. Food was excellent, warm, beautifully presented and very tasty. Tap order and pay didn’t work at table and staff said that is the case. Nice interior and simple menu. Quality food and nice experience hampered only by lack of enthusiasm, cheer and engagement by staff. Shame. Would eat again if different member of staff.

I feel it tastes better than Ajisen Ramen, and I don’t recommend the takoyaki.
