Middletons Steakhouse & Grill Peterborough in Peterborough

Quote honestly grossly overpriced and seriously overated, having eaten in Newmarket the previous evening as a comparator - which is more upmarket too - every aspect is lacking, atmosphere, staffing, service, food and pricing. Although advertised as open until 11pm the pervading attitude is certainly that they don't want you there with the kitchen closing at 9pm and thereafter everything being cleaned and closed down such that we, a party of six, left shortly after 10pm.

Food was OK, service however was not great, very slow,even though the place was nearly empty. The atmosphere was OK

Proposed to my partner here and asked them to write will your marry me with the sauce for Oreo cheesecake and they did and then when my partner said yes they brought out some free drinks, really friendly staff

We couldn't have been happier with the service. Not sure on the name of our server but he was very attentive, friendly and helped us with the two young children we had in our party. I honestly think it's the best service I've received in a restaurant. It can be stressful eating out with babies but the staff made it an enjoyable experience. Thank you to everyone who was working that day.

The food was good and tasty but the service was terrible. From the moment we entered to the moment we left the restaurant.We had dinner on a Sunday night and the restaurant was almost empty but that didn't stop the staff from ignoring us and behaving inappropriately .We are totally disappointed and don't think of going there again.

Excellent evening, great food and great service from Pati The atmosphere was really nice and the price was less than I would have expected for a steakhouse yet the quality was spot on!

Went here for dinner tonight with a friend and had a lovely time. Was greeted by Pati when we arrived who was very polite and professional. The food was amazing, had the gammon steak with chips and slaw. One of the nicest meals I have had for a while many thanks to the chef. I want to thank Pati for going above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was perfect. Their genuine hospitality and impeccable service made all the difference. Pati was an absolute gem. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Great food, service and location.

I went last night, on 5 October, to eat something as I was starving. I have celiac disease and I told them I needed gluten free. I ordered Camembert cheese with gluten free bread, steak with new potatoes, and they told me they even had gluten free cake. When I was done with the cake, I started feeling very dizzy, nauseated and all symptoms when I have been eating gluten. I asked them again before I left if the cake was gluten free and they said it was. Needless to say I drove 15 min home to Hampton Vale and I threw up allover my car, had to pull over, I was sick and still am. Clearly something they gave me wasn’t gluten free as I got so sick and so fast, which happens when I eat a very big quantity of gluten. I couldn’t move the entire night and my stomach is killing me even today. About this place like the plague ! Horrible and they should not be allowed to advertise gluten free on the menu as clearly they don’t know what it is and what’s not. Oh and I absolutely know how I react when I ingest gluten, this couldn’t jVe been something else. Shame on Middleton!

From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted warmly. Our waiter Andre was very friendly and attentive throughout the whole meal. The food was delicious from starters all the way to desssrt. We started with the belly pork and squid nests, both starters were presented lovely, were hot and tasted delicious. Our mains Ribeye and Sirloin Steaks were cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was divine. Although we were satisfied with what we’d already had we couldn’t resist the dessert menu, both of us opting for chocolate. My husband the fondant and s’mores cheesecake for me. Again presentation was great and puddings scrumptious. The only letdown were the toilets, let’s just say they need to be checked and cleaned a lot more regularly and a little maintenance wouldn’t go amiss. All in all though a pleasant & delicious experience, we will be back.

We recently visited *Steak House Peterborough* during our stay and were very impressed by the exceptional friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The service was attentive and welcoming, making us feel comfortable throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the dining experience did not quite meet our expectations. While the food was well-prepared, the portion sizes were much smaller than anticipated, especially considering the price. I ordered the grilled sea bass with potatoes and steamed broccoli, but the portion of potatoes was so small it barely covered the bottom of the dish. My boyfriend ordered the mixed grill, which consisted of a very small piece of gammon, a modest rib-eye steak, and a small portion of lamb. Despite the quality, the portions left us still hungry. Given the limited portion sizes, we found ourselves needing to order takeaway afterward, as the meal simply wasn’t enough to satisfy. For a steakhouse, we expected more substantial portions that offered better value for the cost. We've included photos to illustrate our experience. In conclusion, while the staff and service at *Steak House Peterborough* were excellent, the portion sizes and value left us disappointed.

I had the mixed grill it was nice, staff took a little while to come over even though it was very quiet. Menu is rather confusing considering for 2 meals and 2 drinks was over 70£ you’d expect the menu to be a little better than apiece of paper.

Had the steak frites. Very delicious and sirloin cooked perfectly. Frites were super crispy and delicious. Came with a fresh, tasty side salad. Service friendly and fast. Would visit again.

Used to love this place but the food has declined in the last 6 months. Chewy steak, cold macaroni and service staff shouting like banshees from the kitchen. It's a Monday night so it's not even busy. Not very pleasant and won't be returning. I did tell the waiter that the food wasn't really nice but he didn't seem that interested. £90 for a really rubbish evening and substandard food.

Booked a meal for a family of five. Service was outstanding with our waiter Andre being both attentive and friendly. Food was very good and served without delay. Have been to this restaurant before and always impressed with the service and excellent food.

Im not sure why the restaurant was so quiet, but we enjoyed it so much I jad to write a review! My daughter & I had the lunch menu 2 courses for £13.95 which wss fantastic, it was hot & fresh and delicious! I had the steak baguette for main and I was a little nervous because often bread can be hard or chewy, but thos wasnt it was beautiful again fresh warm and just lovely!

For a place that's meant to be 'THE PLACE FOR STEAK' felt rushed to order. Waited 30 minutes for our food and when it came it was cold. The steak wasn't great. We went to Argo Lounge next door a few weeks prior and their stake was so much better and cheaper. The chips had hard unmelted cheese squares on top. Really wasn't impressed when we got the bill and a surcharge was on the receipt. Would have been nice to have been asked first. It's very awkward asking them to take it off, so paid it anyway. Toilets were a mess with broken taps. Also £11 for 3 scallops the size of 50p coins... Staff were nice.

From walking through the door we was ignored for 5 minutes , once we received the food we got “ peppercorn sauce “ however it looked and tasted like lumpy instant gravy with bbq sauce , complained to the waiter and he came back and said that’s how the chef makes it , my nan could make better peppercorn sauce than that and she’s dead… paid £120 for a meal that tasted like £50 worth , will not be coming again , highly recommend anyone who thinks of coming here to think again!!!

Service was good. Disappointed with the beef roast. The beef was very chewy so could not eat it.

Restaurant was almost empty besides us and 1 other table. We were rushed to order food, server came over multiple times to ask if we were ready when we were quite obviously not. When our food came the steak was incredibly gristley and chewy, asked for it to be replaced which the cook obviously rushed as it was then extremely under-done. I was put off eating by that point. Kids mac and cheese was mostly cheese sauce with very little pasta in it. Side of greens was basically raw spinach with pea pods sprinkled with a bit of salt. We should have complained more but just wanted to get out of there with our 1 year old. Overall wouldn't reccomend unless you like wasting money on extremely mediocre food. Have had better meat at a harvester.

Awful, absolutely awful value for food. Kids meal was 6 (6!) bits of pasta in a cheese sauce, which was supposed to be Mac and cheese. For a steakhouse a worse steak than I'd get in a pub. Service was okay but incredibly pushy and asked way too many times when we were clearly not ready and had a child with us. Value for money genuinely the worst I've experienced.

Went in with my friend yesterday evening, had a mocktail each which was very big, my friend had the Middletons burger which was absolutely huge with a side a choice I tried a bit of her chicken and it was gorgeous. I had ribs and loaded fries which was exceptional and very filling but saved some space for dessert. The dessert option is very broad so the waiter helped me choose, I had the sundae which was very nice and refreshing on such a hot day. Moving on to the service, the two gentleman that served us were very welcoming and sweet , could not fault the service one bit! (Had a nice laugh with one of the waiters) when it came to the bill the price was reasonable and well worth it. Had a lovely time thank you !

The food was great, and both the manager and waiter tonight couldn't have been nicer.

Visited this place on a Thursday evening so it wasn’t too busy. I had read mixed reviews so was a little unsure but my friend and I were pleasantly surprised. The service was good, waitresses were efficient and pleasant. We chose from the meal and drink menu and both chose the piri piri chicken. I have to say it was really lovely, we both enjoyed it as it wasn’t too spicy hot but very flavoursome. The desserts we chose were equally as nice. All in all we couldn’t fault it and will be happy to return on our next outing together.

The food was excellent, I had the Middletons grill the ribs were superb. My wife had the classic grill and she loved it. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Will be going back very soon.

You fancy a stop for a bite to eat, but want something more than a motorway service station. You know Peterborough is a nice town, historic and a little bit middle class. You’re expecting the usual branded chain affair, but also some lovely independents. I used google search, I used Tripadvisor… and I couldn’t find any true independent eateries open on this particular Sunday. The closest I could find was regional chain Middletons Steak House. The place wasn’t quiet but it wasn’t busy. It was a Sunday late afternoon, so I probably hit this place after the rush hour. The team were welcoming and I was quickly sat down. I ordered two small plates to start, opting for the croquettes (Braised beef & bechamel in breadcrumbs & smoked mayonnaise) and sticky BBQ wings (Sticky BBQ sauce, crispy onions). To follow I went with the sirloin steak 8oz, which is accompanied by one side, tomato and mushroom. I went with steak frites of course. The starters were okay, but nuclear hot… which says to me pre-prepped food put into a q-ing/microwave. One of my pet hates gave me the feeling that this was correct, and we were dealing with a kitchen of cooks versus chefs; I can’t stand chefs with filthy aprons coming out front and getting themselves a drink or hanging around. Call me a snob, but it looks unseemly and messy. I don’t want to see how the sausage was made. Plus, after 25 years in hospitality of one form or another… that tells me the kitchen is either not busy or they are not cooking. Chefs who cook don’t have time to come out front, grab a drink, and hang out. Judging by the relative business of the floor, this confirms to me that most of the food is being finished as opposed to cooked. This also was reflected in my steak. It was a cheap piece of meat and not the best sirloin I’ve ever had. It was a steak bulk bought from someone like 3663… you could argue though by saying “what did you expect?” and you would probably be right. It was a nice space, the servers were polite, but the food was mass market. It was a perfunctory experience, aimed at not being awful… but not trying to be great.

delicious food, reasonable prices. Special thanks to the restaurant administrator, today we had very little time for coffee, and while the waiters were apparently still chewing their breakfast, the administrator himself served us. Thank you!

Having a Middletons voucher to use up we decided to celebrate our 10 years as a couple there. We booked a table and got there a few minutes early, not a problem, we were shown to our table and drinks were ordered. I was left with the choice on what to order, I went for the Chateaubriand steak with extra onion rings, salad and fries, knowing its a 40 min cook, I ordered some calamari too, the calamari bites came with a mayonnaise, both were very tasty, onto the main course...the steak didn't disappoint, it was delicious, melt in your mouth meaty heaven, possibly the best steak I have ever had, the main course was just the right amount to fill you up without going ott...a fantastic meal, not cheap but worth it, celebrating our 10 years...

Stopped for lunch, kids ate free. Food was brilliant. Service from our waiter Andre was Fantastic.m and couldn’t of asked anymore of him.

We really enjoyed our meal for a belated mothers day celebration the staff really looked after us service was great and they even put some flowers on the table for us. Wouod highly recommend and we will be back

If I could give more stars I would. Never been here before, and the service was perfection. The food was hot, well prepared, well presented and tasted fantastic. Both Sofia and Alexa was brilliant. Both were very proffesional and not in your face like a lot of other Restaurants. Well done.

The food was terrible. The waitress licked her fingers disgustingly, small and expensive portions. French fries baked in burnt oil. The chicken wings spelled bad!

Went here for the birthday and it broke my personal record for time between sitting down and being served our meals. More than 1.5 hrs! It was so long that our friends had to go and get a McDonalds for their kid otherwise he would have died of starvation. . Food was a mixed bag. Burgers were lush! Chips were excellent. Roast turkey was good, roast beef was tough and stringy. Roast potatoes weren't cooked enough. Carrots and parsnips were almost as wet as the gravy, which drowned everything. Please put it on the side? Starters were better. The pork belly was really good and so was the squid, although it should have been as it cost eight quid for enough to fill an eggcup. Felt a bit sorry for the staff as they were lovely, and it is clearly a kitchen issue. Sorry, wont be back.

Booked a table via email for a party of 9. On arrival I was told no booking had been made and that I had emailed the Leicester branch. I then produced the email showing I had in fact emailed the Peterborough branch, yet the manager tried to tell me two more times that I had emailed Leicester. He then changed his story and said somebody from Leicesters branch had picked up the email and replied, which is clearly untrue as why would someone from another branch pick up their emails? Eventually he accepted and sorted the table, but why not just do this to start with, apologise for the error and give us a table rather than make out it’s my error when I’m showing proof it’s not. The service was incredibly slow, the restaurant wasn’t even busy and there were more than sufficient staff working. We waited a considerable time between starters and mains. When the mains finally arrived at least 6/9 were cooked wrong. Those requested medium were rare and very bloody, a fillet requested medium was beyond well done, it was not what I’d expect from a venue that call themselves a steakhouse, I’d expect a steak house to be able to cook a steak to the required level. Overall very unhappy with the visit. I won’t be returning anytime soon. You’d get a better steak at Harvester for considerably cheaper, and it would be cooked properly.

We booked a visit for Mothers day, I haven't used this restaurant before. Where to start, two of the party ordered Camembert cheese starter, this arrived with only one small bread stick to eat it with, on asking for a bit more, 15 mins later another small bread stick arrived, the cheese was pretty solid by then. The main course included 5 sunday dinners, a Middletons mixed grill. When the Sunday dinners arrived, on cutting into the roast potatoes they were found to be black inside obviously suffering from blight. On complaint these were taken away and 20 minutes later returned, by this time the side vegetables were cold so they had to be replaced as well, some of the veg on plates was gritty and some parsnips were black. The ribeye steak in the mixed grill was extremely chewy and rubbery. The sweets were ok apart from the cheese board which consisted of a white plate with a small piece of cheddar and stilton, a few grapes in a pot and tiny pot of chutney, the biscuits looked as if they had been quality checked by mice, as they were pre nibbled! On a positive note the cost of the sunday dinners was removed from the bill but the overall eating experience was very poor considering the the price of food on offer, this is not a budget eatery. This is the first and last time I will be patronising this establishment.

Awful! Served us mouldy potatoes, and parsnips. Twice! They then brought out another bowl of “freshly cooked” roast potatoes but they were basically just boiled and put in the oven for 10 minutes. Camembert was lump and not cooked correctly and served with a small bit of bread and had to ask for more. Terrible, embarrassing on Mother’s Day! The restaurant wasn’t even that busy.

Are server was Sofia a lovely young lady she help us with everything the food was the best I have had in a long time we had stake it was cooked very well and one the best we have had the we had afters a banafee tart very nice I would recommend this place to anyone how would like a nice meal and good atmosphere

We went here on Friday night what a disappointment Come on what’s happening here? We’ve been loads of times but Friday they needed to sort themselves out It took ages to get a waiter to take a drink order and they not over busy White wine was warm not chilled , they had no other bottles so they gave us a jug of ice and suggested we put it in the wine ! We said we wanted a wine bucket with ice Starters were pathetic , prawns heavily salted , squid was like popcorn and cold No idea what’s happened to one of our go to place Waiter wasn’t interested at all Main courses 2 were ok We finished our meal and it was clear the staff wanted us out and it was only 9.45

Went for a meal on a Friday night with a friend, ordered food and to be honest it wasn't the best, the peppercorn sauce which you pay an extra cost for was unlike any i had ever seen before, looked like gravy and had no visible sign of a peppercorn ever having been anywhere near it! I asked if it was what i was ordered and was told that is the way they do it there! We went on to order an after dinner coffee at 9.25pm on a Friday night and were told that the coffee machine was going through its nightly cleaning cycle so no coffee, along with no apology either, so when i decided on a non alcoholic’Nojito’ i was told I couldn’t have one as they had no mint! Also, a cocktail arrived without the advertised chocolate dust on top! Come on guys!! Sort it out! Very disappointing experience after many visits before. Refused to pay the service charge as to be honest the whole experience was sub standard

It was easy to book online, and we received a warm welcome. We enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast. Great friendly service from the team, especially from Andre.

Came to the Middleton for a postponed valentine meal with my partner. Although it was a very busy evening, big thank you to jada and Andre that looked after us continuously throughout our meal!!!

Sadly too long to wait or service despite prebooked table. 25 minutes before drinks order taken Then 20 minutes for food order then told 40minutes to food arriving. Offered garlic bread for children -as they were now tired and hungry! (Charged for it!) Adult food fine for quality not quantity...but not exceptional considering prices charged. We had to ask for some macaroni in the child's mac n cheese! Bottle of wine was charged at best on menu! Watch for that as we weren't served that! Then they added 10% service charge and grumbled when we asked for it removing! Not going back too busy too noisy and overpriced.

Overall we enjoyed our visit, the food was okay. We all had roast dinners. I had the beef. Granted i did order it medium to well. However it was a bit burnt, quite hard but had an alright taste. The rest had lamb which was okay also. The flavour was pretty bland but nothing out of the ordinary. The roast potato’s were lovely, and Yorkshire puddings were fantastic! The vegetables were a bit of a let down. They were ice cold and hard so not very pleasant. The drinks however were fantastic; a bit overpriced but they tasted amazing! The price for 4 of us and 4 drinks came to just shy of £120. This was including a non optional service fee of 10%. This probably should be mentioned when you enter the restaurant. It wasn’t major but still £12 extra.
