Middletons Steakhouse & Grill Peterborough in Peterborough

Visited this place on a Thursday evening so it wasn’t too busy. I had read mixed reviews so was a little unsure but my friend and I were pleasantly surprised. The service was good, waitresses were efficient and pleasant. We chose from the meal and drink menu and both chose the piri piri chicken. I have to say it was really lovely, we both enjoyed it as it wasn’t too spicy hot but very flavoursome. The desserts we chose were equally as nice. All in all we couldn’t fault it and will be happy to return on our next outing together.

The food was excellent, I had the Middletons grill the ribs were superb. My wife had the classic grill and she loved it. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Will be going back very soon.

Picture the scene. You’re travelling south on the much quieter eastern routes of England from the north to London. You fancy a stop for a bite to eat, but want something more than a motorway service station. You know Peterborough is a nice town, historic and a little bit middle class. You’re expecting the usual branded chain affair, but also some lovely independents. I used google search, I used Tripadvisor… and I couldn’t find any true independent eateries open on this particular Sunday. The closest I could find was regional chain Middletons Steak House. The place wasn’t quiet but it wasn’t busy. It was a Sunday late afternoon, so I probably hit this place after the rush hour. The team were welcoming and I was quickly sat down. I ordered two small plates to start, opting for the croquettes (Braised beef & bechamel in breadcrumbs & smoked mayonnaise) and sticky BBQ wings (Sticky BBQ sauce, crispy onions). To follow I went with the sirloin steak 8oz, which is accompanied by one side, tomato and mushroom. I went with steak frites of course. The starters were okay, but nuclear hot… which says to me pre-prepped food put into a q-ing/microwave. One of my pet hates gave me the feeling that this was correct, and we were dealing with a kitchen of cooks versus chefs; I can’t stand chefs with filthy aprons coming out front and getting themselves a drink or hanging around. Call me a snob, but it looks unseemly and messy. I don’t want to see how the sausage was made. Plus, after 25 years in hospitality of one form or another… that tells me the kitchen is either not busy or they are not cooking. Chefs who cook don’t have time to come out front, grab a drink, and hang out. Judging by the relative business of the floor, this confirms to me that most of the food is being finished as opposed to cooked. This also was reflected in my steak. It was a cheap piece of meat and not the best sirloin I’ve ever had. It was a something bought from 3663. You could say “what do you expect” and you’d probably be right. It was a nice space, the servers were polite, but the food was mass market. It was a perfunctory experience, aimed at not being awful… but not trying to be great.

Having a Middletons voucher to use up we decided to celebrate our 10 years as a couple there. We booked a table and got there a few minutes early, not a problem, we were shown to our table and drinks were ordered. I was left with the choice on what to order, I went for the Chateaubriand steak with extra onion rings, salad and fries, knowing its a 40 min cook, I ordered some calamari too, the calamari bites came with a mayonnaise, both were very tasty, onto the main course...the steak didn't disappoint, it was delicious, melt in your mouth meaty heaven, possibly the best steak I have ever had, the main course was just the right amount to fill you up without going ott...a fantastic meal, not cheap but worth it, celebrating our 10 years...

Stopped for lunch, kids ate free. Food was brilliant. Service from our waiter Andre was Fantastic.m and couldn’t of asked anymore of him.

If I could give more stars I would. Never been here before, and the service was perfection. The food was hot, well prepared, well presented and tasted fantastic. Both Sofia and Alexa was brilliant. Both were very proffesional and not in your face like a lot of other Restaurants. Well done.

The food was terrible. The waitress licked her fingers disgustingly, small and expensive portions. French fries baked in burnt oil. The chicken wings spelled bad!

Booked a table via email for a party of 9. On arrival I was told no booking had been made and that I had emailed the Leicester branch. I then produced the email showing I had in fact emailed the Peterborough branch, yet the manager tried to tell me two more times that I had emailed Leicester. He then changed his story and said somebody from Leicesters branch had picked up the email and replied, which is clearly untrue as why would someone from another branch pick up their emails? Eventually he accepted and sorted the table, but why not just do this to start with, apologise for the error and give us a table rather than make out it’s my error when I’m showing proof it’s not. The service was incredibly slow, the restaurant wasn’t even busy and there were more than sufficient staff working. We waited a considerable time between starters and mains. When the mains finally arrived at least 6/9 were cooked wrong. Those requested medium were rare and very bloody, a fillet requested medium was beyond well done, it was not what I’d expect from a venue that call themselves a steakhouse, I’d expect a steak house to be able to cook a steak to the required level. Overall very unhappy with the visit. I won’t be returning anytime soon. You’d get a better steak at Harvester for considerably cheaper, and it would be cooked properly.

Went here for the birthday and it broke my personal record for time between sitting down and being served our meals. More than 1.5 hrs! It was so long that our friends had to go and get a McDonalds for their kid otherwise he would have died of starvation. . Food was a mixed bag. Burgers were lush! Chips were excellent. Roast turkey was good, roast beef was tough and stringy. Roast potatoes weren't cooked enough. Carrots and parsnips were almost as wet as the gravy, which drowned everything. Please put it on the side? Starters were better. The pork belly was really good and so was the squid, although it should have been as it cost eight quid for enough to fill an eggcup. Felt a bit sorry for the staff as they were lovely, and it is clearly a kitchen issue. Sorry, wont be back.

We booked a visit for Mothers day, I haven't used this restaurant before. Where to start, two of the party ordered Camembert cheese starter, this arrived with only one small bread stick to eat it with, on asking for a bit more, 15 mins later another small bread stick arrived, the cheese was pretty solid by then. The main course included 5 sunday dinners, a Middletons mixed grill. When the Sunday dinners arrived, on cutting into the roast potatoes they were found to be black inside obviously suffering from blight. On complaint these were taken away and 20 minutes later returned, by this time the side vegetables were cold so they had to be replaced as well, some of the veg on plates was gritty and some parsnips were black. The ribeye steak in the mixed grill was extremely chewy and rubbery. The sweets were ok apart from the cheese board which consisted of a white plate with a small piece of cheddar and stilton, a few grapes in a pot and tiny pot of chutney, the biscuits looked as if they had been quality checked by mice, as they were pre nibbled! On a positive note the cost of the sunday dinners was removed from the bill but the overall eating experience was very poor considering the the price of food on offer, this is not a budget eatery. This is the first and last time I will be patronising this establishment.

Awful! Served us mouldy potatoes, and parsnips. Twice! They then brought out another bowl of “freshly cooked” roast potatoes but they were basically just boiled and put in the oven for 10 minutes. Camembert was lump and not cooked correctly and served with a small bit of bread and had to ask for more. Terrible, embarrassing on Mother’s Day! The restaurant wasn’t even that busy.

Are server was Sofia a lovely young lady she help us with everything the food was the best I have had in a long time we had stake it was cooked very well and one the best we have had the we had afters a banafee tart very nice I would recommend this place to anyone how would like a nice meal and good atmosphere

We went here on Friday night what a disappointment Come on what’s happening here? We’ve been loads of times but Friday they needed to sort themselves out It took ages to get a waiter to take a drink order and they not over busy White wine was warm not chilled , they had no other bottles so they gave us a jug of ice and suggested we put it in the wine ! We said we wanted a wine bucket with ice Starters were pathetic , prawns heavily salted , squid was like popcorn and cold No idea what’s happened to one of our go to place Waiter wasn’t interested at all Main courses 2 were ok We finished our meal and it was clear the staff wanted us out and it was only 9.45

Went for a meal on a Friday night with a friend, ordered food and to be honest it wasn't the best, the peppercorn sauce which you pay an extra cost for was unlike any i had ever seen before, looked like gravy and had no visible sign of a peppercorn ever having been anywhere near it! I asked if it was what i was ordered and was told that is the way they do it there! We went on to order an after dinner coffee at 9.25pm on a Friday night and were told that the coffee machine was going through its nightly cleaning cycle so no coffee, along with no apology either, so when i decided on a non alcoholic’Nojito’ i was told I couldn’t have one as they had no mint! Also, a cocktail arrived without the advertised chocolate dust on top! Come on guys!! Sort it out! Very disappointing experience after many visits before. Refused to pay the service charge as to be honest the whole experience was sub standard

Good food, well run friendly staff.

It was easy to book online, and we received a warm welcome. We enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast. Great friendly service from the team, especially from Andre.

Came to the Middleton for a postponed valentine meal with my partner. Although it was a very busy evening, big thank you to jada and Andre that looked after us continuously throughout our meal!!!

Sadly too long to wait or service despite prebooked table. 25 minutes before drinks order taken Then 20 minutes for food order then told 40minutes to food arriving. Offered garlic bread for children -as they were now tired and hungry! (Charged for it!) Adult food fine for quality not quantity...but not exceptional considering prices charged. We had to ask for some macaroni in the child's mac n cheese! Bottle of wine was charged at best on menu! Watch for that as we weren't served that! Then they added 10% service charge and grumbled when we asked for it removing! Not going back too busy too noisy and overpriced.

Great service by waiter Andre. Good food, tasty, served quickly. The price was decent as well. Truly recommended to anyone.

Overall we enjoyed our visit, the food was okay. We all had roast dinners. I had the beef. Granted i did order it medium to well. However it was a bit burnt, quite hard but had an alright taste. We did not have a booking but went to Middlestons Steakhouse in Peterborough and we were given a table straightaway and the staff here were lovely. I was amazed by how wide a range of food they served and it's clear that they put customers first. The quality of the food here was lovely and perfectly seasoned. I do wish I kept pictures of this place because it was so good but I can't wait to visit next time. There is a premier feeling in this restaurant and it is perfect for dates because it's good lighting and the prices here are good, especially for the quality of food you get.

Selecting the classic mixed grill. Was a reasonable choice, steak was very thin and overall all was tasty enough. Here on a Thursday night not that busy. The city centre was pretty quiet perhaps due to the fun fair. BAck to the food have to add it was not over-warm.

We decided to try out the bottomless brunch and we were not disappointed! Food was fab, cocktails were delicious and a special shout out to our server Andre…he was super friendly, gave us his recommendations and was very attentive. Just got home from visiting the restaurant. Great food for all the family. My Rib Eye steak was easily the best steak I've eaten in a very long time. Music in the restaurant was a brilliant mixture of classics which provided a beautiful atmosphere to go with the great service. I thoroughly recommend Middletons Peterborough. 5*

Great friendly service - 10 out of 10 - for that but it was a very average meal. Nothing special and the desserts were poor.

The food was generally very good apart from the main reason for visiting , the steak ! Ordered 2x 10oz and both were at least 50%fat and gristle . A little disappointing especially for the price , the manager did give us a slight discount as remuneration.

Struggled to catch attention of the waiter to order. She didn’t tell us that rump steak takes more than 30 minutes. And it actually took them almost an hour. Very disappointing.

We were a large group and they were happy to accommodate us on short notice. The food was delicious, steak cooked to perfection. Our waitress was lovely and we had a good laugh with her. Great atmosphere and although it was a Tues evening it was quite busy, but not noisy. Would've been nice to see a surf and turf on the menu with lobster though! Pudding was nice, but would've liked the creme brulee warm.

13 of us came for a retirement meal. I had the classic mixed grill and it was good, there were no complaints from anyone about the food. The service was very slow, however the staff were very polite.

Visited this restaurant this week, the service was so awful we left before our mains came out. Our starters arrived and were ok at best, we then waited a further hour and 40 minutes and our mains never arrived. Multiple people complained, another couple also left. The waitress visited our table once the whole time we were there. Absolutely awful experience, would never go back. When we left there was no attempt to get us to stay or reassure us our food was coming, absolutely terrible wouldn't recommend.

Possibly has to be the worst meal I have ever eaten. Myself and husband have eaten tonight here, the service was terrible, all of the staff were miserable and standing around doing nothing considering the waiting time was awful. We waited over an hour and had to ask where our food was. We were out for an 18th birthday and left very disappointed. We asked for the air con to go on as the restaurant was very hot to only be told it doesn't work, huh likely story. The service was slow and very poor. The meal was of poor quality, very poor. The food took such a long time and it was cold. Steaks came in raw when asked for medium rare. I had an 8oz sirloin medium rare, which was not even cooked hardly at all and was cold, not to mention the veins and fat through it and was tough, I hardly ate my meal. Most of the meal was left, to then have a service charge of nearly £30 to which we had removed. First and last time we will ever go there. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant ever!!. We both now have bad stomachs and really don't feel well. There were 8 of us tonight and all of us are now facing the consequences of very bad upset stomachs with empty bank accounts as the meals were very expensive for terrible food and awful experience!!!!!

Firstly I like to say I don't normally complain but on waking this morning I found myself still upset about the meal we had experienced at the Middleton. The food was absolutely disgusting after waiting 45 minutes for the main, my steak was rare, in fact Blue, I asked for medium rare. sent it back and you could tell it had been washed and re heated, not only that I then had to wait for the rest of my meal to come. And the side orders were so small it wouldn't feed a baby let alone an adult. we have been to this restaurant several times but I'm afraid this is our last and I think if they keep serving food up like this they wont be open much longer....... I should have got to McDonalds the food would have been better.

If you want good company and even better service I strongly suggest you visit Peterborough, Middletons. Mark and Elena made the whole experience even better ! :-) !

Visited this past Friday lunchtime with our little family and I had to come and comment on the impecable service we received. All staff were welcoming and friendly and made our children feel very comfortable, would definitely recommend to others.
