Ordered a coffee and told it would be brought upstairs, waited, waited, very patient but no coffee came. with no longer any time left for coffe went down to ask for refund, 15 to 20 mins since order by this time. Just given cash, no apology , no explanation, got the distinct impression that this is not an unusual event for them and that they are not interested. How they have any customers left I don't know!

What does it cost to smile and make a customer feel welcome ? Nothing, of course. The coffee is pretty good but variable ( over three visits ). Each time I have felt I have dragged the barista away from what they were doing elsewhere. Shame as real coffee is hard to find in SEngland

I have visited this place twice now for a coffee. The place always leaves me feeling like they are missing a big opportunity. The entrance is messy, and I have never seen anyone working here crack a smile. Such a lack of warmth! A coffee library is such an exciting prospect, but the service doesn’t reflect this.

I dropped by the cafe to buy a flat white (in my view the best in Canterbury) and decided to buy some coffee to take home as well. The Vietnamese girl that was working there answered all my questions about ‘washed’, organic and naturally processed beans. She educated me, in short order, about the myriad intricacies of coffee processing and it was all quite fascinating! I took away two different roasts, one from Brazil and another from Indonesia. I’ve tried both today and they are superb. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Compared to the awful generic High St. cafe brands, The Microroastery is a 3* Michelin coffee experience.

Worth a visit for the excellent coffee. However if you’re after anything more than cursory service - I personally don’t appreciate being snapped-at with a coffee order request - then there are many other beverage outlets in Canterbury where a smile is included in the transaction

Hearty warm drinks and welcoming service. Their service is very reliable and they serve the best coffee in Canterbury. Their hot chocolates are a particular stand out as are their varieties of baked goods and desserts on sale. I’ve been a regular at the cafe for a long time and I’m proud to support this place. Could not recommend a better cafe in Canterbury. The smell of fresh coffee in the cafe is also somehow always enticing rather than a turn off.

I read a review saying the coffee is over roasted, so I made a point of asking for thier lightest roasted coffee. I think this was going to cause extra work as the barrister tried push the house blend stating it had this single roast coffee beans in the mix. I wasn't persuaded as I hoped for a good cup of coffee; sadly it wasn't - definitely over roasted, very bitter and too acidic. Such a disappointment. 😓 It's also interesting to see the owner's responses to one of the 1 star review about the Nero Cup which manage to get passed his 'security'. I read it just before writing this - and felt it was such a sad and unnecessary stance to take.

We often call in for coffee on Sunday mornings. Today the person who took our order at front desk made it apparent that she didn't want to be there, or didn't want to be taking our order - she was so rude it was hard to believe. I feel a bit bad leaving not the best review since the staff were very friendly. However the coffee wasn’t that great. They use Alpro soy milk instead of Bonsoy (a Barista standard) and the milk was frothed very average at best. Think very light and full of air. It looked like a coffee that came out of a machine. No smooth texture, micro foam or stretching. Temperature was fine. Then again, being from Australia we do place a high standard on coffee. The staff notice I left most of my coffee so made me another one to take out which was kind of them. I was surprised at how light it was- I would say most of the cup was foam and not milk. Good concept, cosy cafe with friendly staff. Unfortunately the coffee leaves a lot to be desired.

I think coffee shops with micros roaster should take more passion in they job, focus more on the coffee. The shop itself it is a bit mix match, do not really know what is the second counter for. A bit confusing. We got confused when we get in, so they take it as we must be tourists who anyway could not tell the difference between latte or cappuccino. The girl behind the counter try to actually ignore as, and we needed to say hi first, and call in her attention we would like to order some coffee. This is the type of place that might end up in a short story or a film. The cafe has a narrow frontage, but extends back through the building in which it is housed to a small courtyard at the rear. Wooden chairs, benches and stools abound, whilst assorted coffee-related wisdom and paraphernalia sits on shelves or hangs from the walls. They roast their own beans here, sell off old coffee bean bags, play a wide range of music softly in the background (I have been most impressed to hear The Divine Comedy from time to time), and provide space to chat, read or connect to the outside world via free Wifi. Espresso or Americano are my usual choices, as good as anything I have tried in an English coffee house, and these can be enjoyed on their own or accompanied by a sweet bite (the fulsome garabaldi slices are something I have often returned to.) This is a very good place in which to “reset” during the working day, or even just when on a leisurely visit to the city.

Was really impressed by the array of alternative milks available.Staff seemed a little grumpy though, and we all seemed a little confused by my request for a large flat white- I was told that they didn't really do a large flat white, but I could have 2 shots in a large cup- which seems to me to be the same thing? But maybe I am just not a coffee expert! The coffee was nice, better than any of the chain cafes like Costa etc (although a little weak for my liking and not as full flavoured as I expected, but then I am used to The Nutmeg in Tenterden which serves Monmouth coffee which is just divine and simply the best ever!) I like the atmosphere of the cafe and the feeling that it was a little quirky and that there seemed to be quite a few regular customers which gave it a community feel. Behind the counter I think was the lovely little dogs hideaway. Two tables for guests had other tat left on it. New cups, saucers and boxes of ??I get they need coffee beans but how about putting them on display properly ?Could be a great little place and we certainly were not the only ones in there. Perhaps we were not the clientele they are seeking.Honest, this is just constructive criticism and not meant to insult the owners.ps, nice friendly staff and wifi.Cheers

Quirky little cafe with wooden tables and chairs upholstered in coffee sacks and a little courtyard space at the back. Excellent coffee and lots of other beans available. Very knowledgeable about coffee (if like my son you are a coffee nerd). Quiet and welcoming - very relaxed.

I have no doubt that this is the best coffee in Canterbury. The place itself is a little on the shabby side, a little bit too "hippy" but for a quick coffee it is well worth a detour. The service can be a little slow but that's probably due to the fact that they are committed to serve the coffee just right.

Excellent coffee from people who are obviously committed; The blend of beans you are drinking is written up on the counter. Also nice cakes and other bites, and different types of coffee to buy. Seating inside looked comfortable but on the sweltering hot day we visited, we made for the quirky but pleasant courtyard out the back. Worth the short walk from the main shopping street.

Do not get me wrong!! Fantastic coffee!! But really??? They do the washing next to the toilet!! And i can tell no one has cleaned the place for ages!!! Some weeks ago they removed a bench to make more space and i can still see the dust all around!!! It is a microbiology lab!!

They source and roast their own coffee. There is a wide variety of blends and the coffee is made perfectly. Rich and beautiful taste! Very nice for sit in or take away. Staff is very friendly and polite.

Follow up review - this is now my go to cafe in Canterbury, it’s bloody fantastic!!! Popped in for breakfast and a coffee and it was absolutely brilliant- coffee was really tasty and the eggs Benedict was a masterpiece - the bacon was thick and cooked to perfection!

Arrived to a very loud and noisy bar to find out our table was next to the door, across from the bar and next to noisy drinkers. We waited 15 mins for a drink although the drinkers at the bar where served ahead of our drinks order.....we knew then we had made a mistake! The food was excellent we both cleared our plate but atmosphere, service and attention to detail was lacking. Would not return in the immediate future.

Great little cafe with a lovely ambiance serving quality coffee and teas. Loved the cheesecake. Service was very friendly with no pressure to leave despite being just after closing time. Frankly a breathe of fresh air
