The main chef was actually in the restaurant when we visited so perhaps that made a difference. The meal we had was terrific. Great choice of food. Their was 6 of us and we all had a great experience. Can’t fault it. Worth a try.

When I arrived the restaurant was empty except for me. While I waited on a friend I asked for a menu. A foreign lady asked me if I had a reservation, I looked around and mentioned the restaurant was empty. She insisted on checking to see if they had room for me and my friend. She then moved me to a different table..... (the one she moved me from was still empty when we were leaving). The more mature gentleman serving us was much nicer and very attentive and helpful, half a bowl of very watery vegetable soup was poor. They also add a 10% tip on even for a party of two. I would normally tip anyway but do not like it to be automatically charged. To be honest I will definitely give this place a miss in future.

I brought a large group of friends to Deanes deli last week and our server was very unpleasant and rude. When asked how long a steak would take she answered 'How long is a piece of string!' I was mortified at her rudeness to my group of friends and certainly would not recommend it for any group dinners. I am a regular visitor to Deanes Meat locker and Seafood bar but I will not return to Deanes deli as the service was very poor

Had a wonderful family dinner at this upscale Belfast restaurant. We were fortunate to happen in as we knew nothing about it. Upscale and good service with great steaks and shrimp.

I can hardly believe it - I'm about to review a salad. Oh & a sweet - perfect lunch time feeding. In terms of ambience I ve never really been a fan of Deanes - too many men in suits, but I digress, especially when it's a lunch time visit, so back to the food. Freshness is something they do well - eg always having a fish dish with 'a proper' sauce. But with Caesar salad, sauce can be a source of considerable controversy. Visions of Drowned & bedraggled croutons, clinging to a cloying sea of sauce, generally steer me away from this classic, but it's right at home at Deanes. A really good Caesar salad is light, crunchy, leafy, dusted with Parmesan and the lettuce is the star, tossed in an understated balance of flavours that is a salty, savoury, light creamy sauce. Left feeling suitably virtuous, dessert becomes completely justifiable. Current offerings include toffee pudding and an ice-cream with treacle sauce - neither of which I could ever be tempted to. I have in the past, familiarised myself with the chocolate truffle and raspberry; been rendered fabulously content by creme brûlée. .. or was that perhaps the panna cotta? It's all oblivion when the 'afters' arrive: the lightest Filo pastry crowns warmed apple (warmed & not unnecessarily hot) and then the salted caramel - just enough cinnamon in the icecream. So, a simple light lunch that surpassed expectation. Words are not enough - the food spoke for itself.

Great service and excellent food. By far the best meal we had during our stay in Belfast. The restaurant is very conveniently located and it was fun to get a table next to the street for people watching. Our waiter (Jared?) was excellent and did a nice job helping us match up wine/beer combinations with our order. Very relaxed atmosphere and (as mentioned previously) the food is excellent.

I had lunch here with a friend just after Christmas. I had the vegetable soup followed by the sirloin steak & desert. It was all excellent. The restaurant was quiet but the whole city centre was quiet. The staff were polite & attentive.

This is actually for Deans @ Queens. Utter nonsense. Pretentious over priced crap. Trying too hard. Trying so hard to be different that it just becomes awkward and weird. Food not even cooked properly but with the forced intention that this is how its meant to be. Felt uninvited upon entry. Ok we hadnt booked. But do we have to ? An atmosphere of importance among staff and we didnt feel comfortable at all. The decor is nice.

Went recently for a dinner with my wife. The reception was very nice indeed, they had our reservation and referred to me by my name. Nice. The atmosphere is cosy, tight and a bit noisy. Friday night there was great live music. The service was good and we felt like we could ask for anything. The food was as we expected, excellent. Quality, preparation, presentation and delivery all top notch. The only problem was the price, it is a bit too much. We will be back.

Called in to get some pre concert food a couple of nights ago. We mentioned we were in a real hurry and have to compliment the service we got. The barman said he would do his best to get us our food quickly. We got two burgers pretty quickly which were awesome. We were able to get to our gig and enjoy our night. Special mention must go to the barman who gave brilliant service, helping us out. Will be back for another burger before our next gig!

The meal was very overpriced for what it was with expensive 'extras' and 10% added to the bill. Usually it's the customer who decides on the gratuity. Overwhelming smell of urine from the gent's toilet ruined the evening.

Use to go to the bistro fairly regularly but hadn't been for a few months. Was one of my favourite restaurants but lost it's appeal after my lunchtime visit today. Service was slow and disjointed! A wait of half an hour between bread starter and mains. Other tables that came in after ours got served before us. Had fish and chips which in the past was my favourite in Belfast city centre. Today the fish was very thin and mainly batter. Have had nicer fish from a take away at a third of the price! Was a business lunch with people from England. Was embarrassed by quality of food and serve. One positive place always has nice atmosphere!

We recently at at Deane's twice within a week while in Belfast. The first time was on a Sunday night and everything about dinner was superb. The service was excellent, the fish fresh, the vegetables perfect, the risotto exactly as it should be and the house wine an excellent wine at a very reasonable cost. The second time, on a Tuesday night, was not quite as good. The food arrived out of order with the mains arriving before the salad and the vegetables arriving well after the mains. The waiter got the order wrong the first time and then disappeared (his role was taken over by the manager, it seemed). The asparagus was perfect but the fish soggy and not crispy. The fries were good but not as a main course. We'd try it again, but with some reservations.ATBLIG

A party of six of us over from Scotland eat there on 27th September 2010. The food was excellent but sadly the staff could not muster a smile between them. We were greated poorly on arrival , the staff remained unfriendly throughout and nobody saw us out or thanked us for our custom. I formed the impression that there had been a dispute among the staff group prior to our arrival and they could not be bothered. This was a shame because the food was a delight and the decor great . We had been to Paul Rankins the previous night and his staff were magnificent as was the staff at Balloo House the following day..

Myself and 5 other ladies visited Deanes on a night out in Belfast. this month. We all opted for the 5 course tasting menu with tasting wines at the hefty price of £90stg a head. Coming from the renowned expensive capital Dublin, we exclaimed that the menu was pretty pricy. Our initial thoughts on the food was that it was fabulous but the portions very small. However, it was only after noticing the stingy wine portions that we got somewhat disturbed. In effect there were 2 tablespoons of wine in each glass accompaniment. When we complained to the sommelier he lectured us that it was the "quality not the quantity, 'madame ' that mattered", we really got annoyed. Unfortunately our complaint seemsto fall on deaf ears and we were offered no extra wine (even a cheaper one!) We left Deanes hungry, thirsty, cranky and £100 stg a head poorer. Not alone will 6 of us not be returning but we will be activley discouraging others to follow a very disappointing night out.

I was critical of the The Chester for its many young barmen who had no customer service. I was therefore pleased to see an older bar person in charge, who was so hard working actually obsessive cleaning. However this was short lived as this person / woman was not friendly actually everything she was asked for was a chore, surely her job I went tonight because I had really bad news and was trying to lift myself. Instead I was depressed by sour puss and unacceptable service. Sorry but do you not know the reason why people go out is to lift themselves.? We left and went to the always excellent Lansdowne.. Chester please learn make people need to be felt good and invited. My advice get rid of the OCD cleaner and invest in someone who is a professional person engaged in making the experience a pleasant nite out. Won't be back until staff changed Will

When will Costa ever get it right? Cafe Latte is NOT FLAT WHITE!! Flat White is a small non frothy double expresso coffee with just double the amount of milk to coffee. If I wanted a mainly milk coffee I would ask for a Latte or a Cappuccino.

We ate in this restaurant in the Hilton before going to a concert in the Waterfront Hall next door. We were there around 5.30 and were the only people in at that time. Some background music but little atmosphere. The food was tasty - we had starters and main courses - goats cheese and prawn cocktail and a cheeseburger and chicken. Service was slow for a pre theatre menu. We had to ask for the dessert to be rushed to be in time for the concert. All in all it was satisfactory but not an inviting experience.

This place has gone to the dogs. They also reduced the quantity/size of goujons. Goujon meal tonight was over £10 which is insane. Staff still nice. Management decisions.
