Second time been here (first time was when just opened) and was not as impressed. Chairs really uncomfy and chicken was a bit pink so didn't eat most of it. Very quiet when we arrived (7:30) although it picked up a little.

Dined here with friends from work for my birthday. The plates were brought to us hot about 10 minutes before the food so the plates were stone cold when the food arrived. The fish pie was very bland, almost tasteless. The staff are very friendly but the food quality lets the place down. The venue is nicely decorated. It has real potential...

Every time we visit now we are forced to leave because the staff clearly want to close up well before the advertised closing time. Being glared at by the completely unnecessary security guard at 9.45pm who then attempts to lock the door as you are saying goodbye to your friends is not a pleasant way to end the evening particularly when you have paid a lot for a meal. I'll give you one more chance Mezze but if you make me feel uncomfortable again I won't be coming back

Similar to the lady below we live locally and have also eaten here a few times. The menu is slightly odd, fragmented even, and needs some refinement. The mezze is actually an interesting combination of Greek, Chinese, other dishes. If they are going to add British dishes too (which they have) best try to do some old favourites really well and include different cuts of steak with popular sauces rather than just sirloin. We have usually enjoyed our meals although more satisfied than overwhelmed by the food. I agree the "Bouncer" seems utterly pointless and more likely to put off than encourage customers. It's also disappointing that there seems to be no response from the Owner to adverse comments on this website. There needs to be a significant improvement in customer service if this establishment wants to retain the goodwill of locals.

Took our parents for their 50th anniversary. Food badly cooked, lacking in taste, took ages to come and thoroughly sub standard. Service although friendly was slow and had no attention to detail ie didn't remove unused wine glasses or finished drink so table was untidy and cramped. What's is the point of the grumpy bouncer spend more on training the chef.

We have visited the Mezze at the Anchor twice before and loved it - really loved the tapas.... but oh dear what happened when we visited on Wednesday December 18th.....It was very quiet that night as the rain and wind were extreme and Pill was flooded down in the dip. But that didn't excuse the Anchor by serving us cold tapas and I am sure they were yesterday's and had been reheated. Dreadful. We had the sticky toffee pudding to boost our mood and my friend we very ill in the night and felt it was the pudding as opposed to the awful tapas that we had served. Would take a lot for us to return......

My sister has moved to Ham Green so I thought we would try the Anchor for some lunch. The place is really nice, so nice the menu does not suit it. A lot of money has been spent refurbishing this place. Proficient service and reasonable prices for drink and food. We had a cajun chicken and bacon wrap and ham , egg and chips - the homemade chips are excellent, not sure about the ham but still good. This place has a lovely garden which I'm sure will be full in the summer. I'll give it another try because the food was good and a good price and the place is great, old mixed with modern - needs more customers for atmosphere.

Will definitely be returning again soon. We also enjoy just popping into the Anchor for a drink, the place has been tastefully refurbished and they also do a great breakfast /brunch menu at very reasonable prices.

Been here three times and dissapointed every time. Food always takes around an hour to be brought to the table and in that time no one comes to take drinks orders and when food eventually arrives, no one passes by to check everything is ok with the food. This is very basic customer service and doesn't take alot of effort!! On a positive note, the food is quite tasty - Portishead Mezze is better.

Visited afternoon of wednesday 11th December, having previously known the pub in its old style I was quite impressed by the transformation into a large open modern look, the menu promised a lot but the fact that there were 3 different menus was a bit confusing and we were not helped by a lackluster attempt at service.3 of us elected to eat from the mezze menu which was 3 plates for £12, the food was unfortunately not as impressive as the surroundings, the drunken pork was lumps of pale Pork in a frankly weak and tasteless sauce, the Merguez sausages were ok but the fish parcel (sorry forgotten name of them) were just deep fried and very greasy triangles, the potatoes were just deep fried "Roast" potatoes with a sauce dumped on top.I might give it another try again in case this was just a one off on a quiet day but i wont be rushing there if there is an alternative.

A table of 12 ladies at Christmas time were much let down- I will NEVER eat there again, 1. A drink was poured over my friend by a waitress and the manager spoke to the waitress like dirt in front of us. No move to compensate my friend with a free drink or dry cleaning. 2. We pre- ordered our meals months in advance yet we were waiting for our meals for hours3. We waited for 90 minutes for our starters4. The starters were so covered with "dressing" (plain olive oil) that they were almost inedible; we ate them as we were so hungry! I don't think any of our table enjoyed the starter at all- so disappointing.5. Our starter plates were left on our tables for about 20 minutes after we'd finished eating.6. At no point did anyone come to our table to apologise, to check on us, to take drinks orders or to give up complimentary bread (anything).7. They did come to tell us we were loud and we needed to be quiet- rude!8. After 1 hour and 45 minutes we asked where our mains were and we we're told 5 minutes. 15 minutes later they arrived. Still, no apology. 9. Ladies were approaching the bar to order drinks which were then not bought to our table. Cocktails and soft drinks were forgotten, meaning we had to approach the bar again to re- order. I believe this happened twice. 10. The meals arrived and were mostly tasty, except they had lost out pre- ordered menu and we had one incorrect dish. One of our party (we were ravenous by now!) ate a meal she did not order. When we tried to talk to the manager about it he argued that it was our fault for messing up the pre ordering menu.11. Another of our ladies had a very fatty, gristle-y piece of meat. She pointed this out and the waiter took her meal away and didn't bring her another. She was sat watching us eat. Again, no apology at all.12. There was a long delay in collecting our main dishes. It was now 9:50 and we had been in the restaurant for 2 hours and 20 minutes. We decided we did not want to wait for our deserts and asked to speak to the manager. 13. The manager offered us two bottles of wine on the house and we declined. The manager offered to give us our deserts free and we declined- we just wanted to leave. In the end they did take a large amount off our bill- we each paid approximately £15 when it should have been: £26- but the manager did this reluctantly and grudgingly and without an apology at all. 14. This experience absolutely ruined our annual get together. We carried on to some local pubs- hungry but relieved to be out of Mezze!

I am a ‘lady who lunches’ also, and am a little surprised at the reviews posted below. I live on Ham Green and visit the Anchor Mezze frequently for coffee, breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, though not all in one day! We were delighted when the Mezze opened on Ham Green, but wondered whether they would be able to sustain the level of service/food, which we were greeted with in the early days. I am pleased to say that on the whole they have. There has been the occasional hiccup – potatoes not cooked for long enough on one occasion, or the service can be a little slow, but these problems will occur in any eating establishment, and I suggest that, rather than posting a derogatory message over, sometimes, something quite small, perhaps it might be better to complain to the staff at the time, so they are aware of the problem and can rectify it to your satisfaction.

We are 'ladies who lunch' and this is a local venue that had become a Mezze and we wanted to try the tapas. Two of our party had visited previously with seperate parties and they were mostly positive about it. Unfortunately, although it was sunny (but cold) outside, we were were freezing at our table. We mentioned this to the waiter when he finally came to our table with menus, he made some smart remark about being able to warm us up and disappeared again for ages. A couple of other parties arrived and we noticed the same waiter dealing with them. It was ages before he returned to take our orders and ages before the food arrived. While waiting, we discovered the source of the coldness. Both exterior doors were propped open so we closed them!I was happy with my choice of the Fish Soup, tasty and spicy but would not dine there again based on the total lack of service or any kind of attention from anyone.

Booked a large family get together meal here having known it years ago and knowing that it had recently converted into another pub in the 'Mezze' chain. Looks good, looking in so we had great expectations which, quite frankly and sadly, were just not met. Firstly, we were amazed how quiet it was - it was almost empty - but now we probably understand why. The food was OK, but obviously, given the size of the menu and the speed at which 24 mostly different Mezze dishes appeared -must be pre-prepared or bought in or both. The atmosphere was non-existent and given there were so few people around we found it quite intimidating to be apparently being watched by a "bouncer" all night. For heavens sake, if they need a bouncer here, why don't they get him to dress smarter rather than look like someone who should be on the door of a dodgy nightclub in central Bristol? And stay out of sight - don't prowl around as if expecting the diners to start a riot at any minute! But maybe that's what we should have done (I'm joking!) because, given how empty the place was, the service was almost non-existent as the atmosphere as well - no attention given for most of the night - to the point where we had to send one of our group off to request our bill! We certainly won't be rushing back on the basis of this experience - such a shame for us old ex-locals!

Been here a few times as I work opposite in the business park. I've mostly gone for the wraps at lunch time and they are lovely. However, can you please sort out the chips. They are ridiculously crunchy and hard (not in a good way). If this was sorted out then it would be great.I assume you use the same potatoes and machines for these as you do for the tapas dishes where the chips are covered in sauce when they need to be more firm to stay firm with the sauce but come on, they're awful and I'm not the only one in my group to say this. As did my g/f when I went with her.Other than that, good selection and clean.Isn't authentic tapas, I would recommend Bravas to anyone first before this for the same price and a different league.

We went there the first weekend it opened and were favourably impressed (though the food was insufficiently hot - a consistent problem. Since then we have eaten there several times since it is very local. The quality has been alarmingly variable, sometimes OK, but never recapturing the high standard of the opening days.I took my mother there for Sunday lunch the other day. She had pork, which was OK. I ordered the beef and it was absolutely awful - tough, gristly and hard to cut, let alone eat. The waiter (who is always very nice and helpful) asked how it was and I told him. He agreed, said the the chef was not very happy with the beef and that is why he was asking how the meal was. They took the beef off and replaced my meal with pork. Credit to them for replacing it, but a) it's not a great dining experience to have your food replaced (by the time I got my new lunch, my mother had almost finished hers) and b) if the chef was not happy with the beef he should have taken it off immediately, rather trying it out on customers first. It's not the cheapest place either. The trouble is that if you market yourself as a gastropub, as they seem to want to do, you've got to deliver the quality. Otherwise, people will vote with their feet - as, I am sad to say after several unsatisfactory experiences, will we.

Service was quite slow once at table and a 'nearly-new' waitress wasn't sure where to put food when it arrived. Four of us ordered mezze and one ordered schnitzel from the main meals, everything came together and we couldn't believe portion sizes - huge, considering 3 for £12 offer. The schnitzel was equally sizeable. Food was all cooked well, including a fish stew and spicy prawns. Well done Mezze!

I knew before I went here, having viewed the menus that it was impossible to prepare fresh food from such a vast menu. I do not like Gordon Ramsay but agree 5 or 6 mains as a rule.Any way took some friends there, Oh dear. Easter European waitresses, took me 4 attempts to explain I would like food on a hot plate. As with our guests selected 3 courses from the meat Mezze menu. Chilli beef, drunken pork, and liver. All tepid. Pork advertised as being coked overnight, maybe it was in a microwave. Liver tough as old boots, chilli something my son could have knocked up. Puddings are clearly bought in. Please owners I know you want to make money - no problem with that but serve some decent food. Wine etc very pricey for the quality. Cost for 4 with wine £100.00 plus. will not return. Back to the Clifton Sausage or The Cow Shed for us.

Simple main meals reasonable e.g salmon fillet, also true of tapas/mezze, but my own monkfish with tiger prawns was very poor indeed, totally overwhelmed by the sauce and the presentation was appalling.
