Mezcaleria At Kol in City of London, Westminster

Tuvimos una maravillosa celebración de cumpleaños en este restaurante. A su llegada, una tarjeta de cumpleaños firmada por todo el equipo quedó en nuestra mesa, lo que marcó el comienzo de una noche memorable. El personal era muy amable y explicó cada plato en detalle. La comida era excelente e impecablemente preparada. Si bien cada porción era bastante pequeña, después de nueve platos, estábamos verdaderamente llenos. En general, fue una cena memorable, y debido a la meticulosa atención al detalle tanto en la comida como en el servicio, creo que la estrella Michelin es bien merecida.

No es el lugar para mí. El menú degustación estaba bien. Muchos sabores que no convivían entre sí. Mi marido y yo hemos tenido la suerte de visitar un puñado de restaurantes con estrellas Michelin de diferentes cocinas y estilos. Kol estaba allí arriba con los mejores. Llevamos a 2 de nuestros amigos allí para un 40 cumpleaños conjunto y les encantó, además el equipo les dejó una tarjeta de cumpleaños en nuestra mesa, y compraron un poco de pastel y velas hacia el final de nuestra comida. Todo fue brillante. Desde el servicio relajado (pero excelente), las inusuales (pero deliciosas) recomendaciones de vino, y por supuesto la exquisita comida. Me encanta la comida mexicana, pero esta experiencia fue tan inusual y un viaje para las papilas gustativas que no tengo una mala palabra que decir sobre nada de lo que probé. En general, una experiencia increíble, y recomendaría encarecidamente. Si tuviera una sola cosa negativa sería en relación con la factura final recibida, que fue un shock para mi saldo bancario! La comida de estrellas Michelin más cara que hemos tenido (incluso superando al restaurante de 2 estrellas que hemos probado! ) ... Pero sí tuvimos 4 margaritas (una prueba obligada por cierto! ) , 2 botellas de champán, 1 botella de tinto y por supuesto 4 x menús degustación, así que realmente la cuenta de £ 1500 que me presentaron debería haberse esperado, y no me arrepiento de la experiencia ni un poco!

La comida y el vino aquí es escandalosamente caro y francamente bastante pobre. La comida era de más de £ 800 para dos y a pesar de ser un fan de los menús degustadores este y el vuelo de vino que lo acompañaba fue enormemente decepcionante. Visitamos un sábado a la hora del almuerzo. Nuestra primera impresión fue de un restaurante atractivo y personal cálido y acogedor (aunque la espera era un poco fumbled de vez en cuando). Tomamos el menú degustación con maridajes de bebidas. Muy buen restaurante, la fusión de la comida mejicana con productos ingleses es deliciosa. Además los margaritas de mezcal son una pasada. Algunos peros que encontramos fue el espacio entre las mesas es muy pequeño con lo que tienes poca intimidad y demasiada rapidez entre los platos, esto te hace que no puedas tardar demasiado en comertelos y disfrutarlos. Very nice staff who worked hard but the food and atmosphere were massively underwhelming. No idea how this restaurant got so over hyped. No dish truly impressed over our very slow 3 1/2 hours spent in the restaurant. And all this came with a very large bill.

Perfection! Absolutely amazing from start to finish! We came for a birthday celebration and to start with we received a birthday card signed by all the staff. A really nice touch that made the experience even more special! The service was impeccable, staff were friendly and helpful which you would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. We had the full tasting menu - every dish was better than the last. They were all unique, flavoursome and unlike anything we had ever had before. I would highly recommend this restaurant. I am not sure why some of the reviews are so negative. It is easily the best restaurant we have ever been to and we look forward to going back. It is supposed to be the best restaurant in London. They have created a Mexican menu from British ingredients. But why? It doesn't taste like Mexican because they have substituted so many ingredients that it is now just a slightly spicy medley of high-quality items. Very well presented, but not worth it. In summary, it solves a problem that doesn't exist and is totally overthought. The drinks and cocktails were far better. More authentic ingredients = much more enjoyment. Maybe a lesson to be learned?

I was invited as part of my job! We went for the private dining experience - we were with the owner and his exec chef and got to learn about his ethos for his restaurant. The private dining is stark and industrial in decor but the kitchen that you view is like a little Mexican family kitchen. He wants that feeling of eating at home but out. I loved the decor, table design and ambience. All of the food had his own unique twist - a lot was the simple design ie making your own tortilla wraps but the food was tremendous Little plates that danced on your tongue He paired it with wine that he had made specifically for him - Everything was novel, tasted fabulous and was interesting twist4ed You are NOT going to like it if you like big portions of Mexican food - you are going to love it if you like being challenged in both taste, ingredients and design. pS they have a private speak easy in the back which takes you back to Havana - Im quite smug here as I loved it told everyone about it and then it got its first star !! x

The lead-up to our visit to KOL was a wild ride. I'd found it in the Michelin guide, and, as an American immigrant in London, I'd been longing for some good Mexican food, so I signed up for the newsletter to get early notification of their reservations and booked. A few weeks before our dinner, KOL was named in the 2023 50 Best list, and my wife and I were even more excited than before. Then, the day of our dinner, I stumbled upon the TripAdvisor reviews. I was suddenly worried. Bland? Disappointing? We'd been to another Michelin-starred restaurant in London earlier this year that failed to live up to expectations. Was this going to be our second exorbitantly-priced letdown? Oh no... But there was no need to worry. KOL absolutely lived up to expectations. We both opted for the vegetarian menu, and I had the drinks pairing, while my wife sipped on a couple of palomas. She's not typically a grapefruit *or* tequila fan, but the bar here makes a lovely paloma -- highly recommended! As for the food, this was some of the most creative, interesting, and -- most importantly -- delicious Mexican food I've ever had. The amuse bouche with enoki mushrooms is, I believe, a crab dish for the meat-eaters, and you could honestly have fooled me with the mushrooms. Texturally, it was crab; and the flavour was spot-on, too. While there were no weak courses, the other two I'll choose to highlight were the taco and the atole. My wife and I agreed, having had the taco: We didn't want to eat anything else that night. Just more tacos for every course, please. The milk pearls and the smoked chilli were such a perfect pairing -- like a deep, rich, smoked cheese. Despite the *twelve* drinks I had -- and the pairings were some of the most thoughtful I've had anywhere -- the taco has left an indelible impression. As for the atole, I would never have thought to add masa to a sorbet, but the flavour paired so well with the strawberry and guajillo. Delightful. Reservations are hard to get, but this is a place I'll be back to with guests, for sure.

Underwhelming and pricey. My low score is by no means a reflection on the staff who were on the whole friendly and attentive. We wanted to pay in cash and were told they were a cashless restaurant and this was made clear on the booking confirmation. I’ve checked through all correspondence and at no point is this mentioned. Eventually they accepted our cash payment. We were then accosted by the manager outside telling us that one of her staff was going to put our bill on their credit card and she couldn’t possibly allow that to happen. I totally agree, this shouldn’t happen but your issue should be with the proprietors who have enforced this ridiculous no cash rule. I would also suggest you don’t call customers ‘absolutely disgusting’ when they’ve just handed over £1400 for mediocre food.
