Mermaids Coffee Shop in Fareham

We wanted to give our Doberman dog, Tewkesbury, a decent walk from Swanwick marina, so headed for Mermaid’s Cafe. Forgot it closed at 4 on Sundays, so pleased they let us squeeze inside at 1 minute to the hour! They were super friendly, even though they must have been ready to close up. All our hot chocolates and coffee were delicious. Couldn’t resist the ice cream (saw customer before me) in a real cone! …. and then a home made oat and sultana biscuit caught my eye - irresistible!! Love this place. A hidden gem.

I’ve been here twice in the last month with two bad experiences. I wasn’t going to write anything after the first, but the second shows a pattern of behaviour, not just an off day. The first experience I was with my friend and we ordered two black coffees to go with a bit of cold in the top of both of them. After waiting through some other orders being called out, “two black coffees ‘in’ with a side jug of hot water” was called. We didn’t respond, because we assumed this was someone else’s order. They then looked at us and said “what did you order then?” In a sharp tone. We repeated what we ordered and the lady at the coffee counter scoffed and rolled her eyes at us. She took the drinks and changed the order she just made, leaving it on the counter when she was done, without a single word to us. For her to be rude to us after they made a mistake on our order left a bad taste in my mouth. On the second occasion, I went in for an ice cream. The three people behind the counter completely ignored us even though only 1 was serving. The young girl behind the counter finally looked at us to serve and looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. She took our money and slowely walked to the ice cream counter. She then slowely went to put gloves on and slowely scoped the ice cream. This wasn’t just slow and steady, this was painfully slow like she was doing it on purpose. When she was done, she left the ice creams on the counter without saying one word. Bizarre and very unwelcoming …

Always served freshly ground coffee that’s delicious in taste and fabulous aroma. The food selections including the cakes and pastries amazing and so tasty with large servings. The team prepare everything fresh and honestly it’s worth the wait. I know some people are expecting a fast-chain type barista, but the team here are relaxed and attentive. Set in the majestic Universal Marina in Premier Marina, this places attracts the daily walkers, workers and boaters. Ignore the negative reviews as sometimes you have to be patient and wait as place is hugely popular.

Absolutely rude and ill mannered member of staff told us to move our vehicles and staff parking only no signage or otherwise Needless to say we did not spend our money Avoid it like the plaque at all costs ( Until we get an apology)

A lovely coffee shop, in a beautiful and peaceful setting. The cakes we had were delicious, and so fresh. The coffee (plain black americano) was the best coffee we've had in months. Definitely worth the trip, down a beautiful country road

Decent nice staff, good food and coffee. However the service is painfully slow . 20 mins for a coffee . The thought of the wait really puts me off , when I see the queue . Tempted to say worth the wait but ….

What a great place. Great parking. Lovely inside and outside seating. The staff were really friendly. Best coffee we've both had in a long time. Lots of choice of cakes... they all looked delicious. The ones we had were very tasty. Looking forward to returning soon.

Great little coffee shop, delicious toasties and superb coffee. Nice marina setting, a bit of a hidden gem. Thank you very much.

This Coffee shop is a real gem serving specialty coffee. The bacon baguettes and blueberry muffins to accompany my coffee are my personal favourites but all the on site food is excellent. It has a really relaxing ambience and is furnished to a very high standard. I cannot recommend Mermaids highly enough.
