Very nice couple taken over, did not have to wait too long, good service, pleasant atmosphere. My order of cod,chips and curry sauce was delicious, best for ages.

Classic fish'n'chips shop as you would imagine. We were passing through and ordered our dinner there. Value for money is great and the food was great!

Recommended by our chimney sweep. Big cod portions well battered and cooked and lavish portions of chips keep us coming back. Food freshly prepared so use phone, online or app to cut waiting time if you’re in a hurry.

We called in at the Mermaid Fish Bar on our way to our holiday destination. We were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices but amazed at the size of the fish, they were huge! It was all freshly cooked and delicious. Highly recommended.

Having been here a couple of years ago pre Covid finally able to visit friends again she suggested chippie tea, straight away we said do you still go to the same one we used last time we were down. YES so off we went Fish supper, Faggots meal OMG delicious 😋 had to go back for a second visit before heading north to home.

Great little place first time being there as we have no power but the fish was fantastic and chips well what can I say we will definitely be back best in the area a great little chippy

This is our absolute favourite fish n chips in the whole world! The chips are always properly cooked and not pasty white like is the case in most chippy's. They take mobile orders too. You won't be disappointed.

We usually go to Ocean Blue but as they weren’t open at lunch time we decided to chance it here. What a mistake! The chips were revolting, tastless, chewy and hard. They were a pale milky colour not golden brown. The fish bites weren’t really fish bites more the tail end of a smallish fish. The batter was soggy and to top it all we had to wait for this disgusting food. We will never visit here again. Disappointing.

Searcted Tte Goog for a fish and chip bar along our route. Found this place at 4.5stars and pages of reviews. Small fish and chips deal £4.30. Jumbo sausage in batter £1.60. Chips actually cooked to perfection, an- anyone reading through few reviews will know that's an honour. Fish cooked to order. But the best was the jumbo sausage in batter because the batter was as ttick as my waistline. Bravo Mermaid Fish Bar. I am smiling.

Have had 3 deliveries in the past month, on each occasion had delicious cod and chips, which were really superb, Delivered by friendly staff, piping hot and really was such a treat in these extraordinary times. We appreciate this service and thank the hard working staff for providing first class food. They were a little late last Friday but that is understandable under these circumstances and the food was still fresh and excellent quality. Just a suggestion maybe in the future a quick call just to say you are running late would be appreciated. this is not a criticism just a suggestion. Diolch/thanks again.

I'm so sorry to have to only put 2 stars, but for the last 7 years we have eaten and recommended Mermaid, but of late the food has gone down hill badly. Curled up very well done jumbo sausages the same size as a nor,al one because it's over cooked and shrunk. Chips used to be the best in the area, real potatoes but lately, over cooked and really fatty!! We collect our food to go home to eat, on more than a few occasions food has been missing from order and as we live 4 miles away not worth going back out for it, so have been over charged. I dont know what's happened, but we have tried complaining but Mel never seems to be there any more. I've always given 5☆ but I'm so unhappy with the service unfortunately it's a 2 now and we will not be coming back :( I always try and be fair, all takeaways have a off day, but the last 3 meals have been absolutely terrible, cold, overcooked, sloppy. Sorry to see such a good chippy go down hill like this, esp now there is a new chippy in town.... You need to up your game now guys, not give "Less than adequate food"

Fish is always freshly cooked while you wait and huge, nice display of other treats, and plenty of tasty chips, can't fault it.

We are regulars at the mermaid fish bar all the girls working there are lovely and welcoming . The food is always excellent and fish is cooked to order meaning you never have soggy fish and the batter is always fluffy .

Good place with a great section. Fast service and nice staff. Great place to grab something quick and delicious.

We were in the area today and wanted a quick bite to eat and tapped into Google chip shops near me. The Mermaid was our nearest so we called there. I was pleased to note the food hygiene rating was a 5, so we were off to a good start. My husband wanted fish bites, which were cooked fresh to order, the fish was white and fresh. I had a sausage in batter, lovely crispy batter and we shared but failed to finish one generous portion of chips. The chips were also excellent, hot, fresh and crispy on the outside. The cost was reasonable at just over £6 in total. Great value for money, lovely food and we would definitely call again if in the area.

Had a meal here recently, and found a deep fried fly in with the chips, complete with crisp wing. Felt quite repulsed.

We regularly have fish and chips here. Well cooked, not overly greasy, nice fresh chips. Faggots, peas and chips are recommended.

1x Large chips fed 3 of us, with the addition of 1x fish, 1x chicken chunks and 1x rissole. They are currently selling a "Christmas rissole", but had sold out on the evening I visited.

The two girls working here are their to earn a wage full stop. The result very poor service, poor quality fillet of cod with bones, horrible thick greasy batter. This is the worse fish and chips I have had. Never again.

Stunning food and massive portions

Well what can I say, I work in a factory close by, and I live in the Neath, and once a week I will treat my darling partner and children to a chippy from this place, As I entered I was Wormley welcomed by the staff, upon ordering food I asked for a cod and chips, I I fact had half a whale and bag of spuds, fed the 4 of us, I have been a chef for 15 years and cooked for the likes of Lee evens, Joe joyner, Paul burrel, and the cast of green Street, this cod I would love to know we're it comes from as being a chef I know frozen to unfrozen, and this cod I can't seem to work out if it was frozen so I'm guessing fresh, £5 for this dish, it's a must try, lovely food lovely friendly staff and the regulars all seem to be so friendly, see you again next week.

Also delicious fish and chips from here. Fish is freshly cooked to order. Chips are delicious and I’ve not had any of those kept warm chips you can get in other places. Staff are always super friendly, excellent takeaway. Can also phone an order through to them. The only negative I’ve found is that their other shop sells locally made cheesecake, this shop doesn’t, which is a great shame 🤭, hopefully this will change in the future 😄.

Mel and his team always make us feel welcome! The food is great, food portion sizes are brilliant and its great having a specials board to choose from.

Located on the right hand side of the road as you enter the village of Llandybie.The chip shop has a big range of choice with reasonable prices.You will probably have to wait 10/15 min for some things as Fish as to my experience it's been cooked from fresh,very nice too.It also has child menu.Being quite local I tend to phone and book in advance.

The owner always has a smile and cheery hello whenever you visit. We don't call there very often but when we do it's usually for the freshly cooked to order fish and chips and maybe mushy peas. I don't eat the batter but the fish Inside it is really nice.

I was returning home when I saw this fish and chip shop. I decided to give it a try and am so glad I did for the food was superbly cooked. The chips, in particular, were the most succulent I had tasted for a very long time and the rest of the food was equally as good. For a shop hidden away from the main road this is a treat for any passing traveller.

Best chip shop in Ammanford and surrounding areas..always a bit of a wait, but at least it's all fresh!
