We have been going to the Merlin for many years, usually for lunch. I have given 3 stars on this occasion purely because of the same “lunch time set menu” every time we go. The food is excellent but would just be nice to have a change of menu as it s been the same lunch menu for at least 18 months.😌

We visited on Saturday for the event that Brad set up, we were a party of 10 that all ate and drank the afternoon away,a big thank you to Brad and all the staff and Gary for there hospitality and we will be back again many thanks.

Absolutely lovely bottomless brunch! Excellent service, great food, really enjoyable. Drinks were refilled before they were even finished! Chose the Merlin for my 60th Birthday party. I was looking for an informal family get together, somwhere with a function room, a buffet and a few bedrooms for those travelling and staying over. Top marks for Gary and the team. Everything from the comms before the day, the staff on the day, the quality of the food, including the buffet and breakfast and the bedrooms, was spot on. I had great feedback from many that attended and wanted to pass that on. It was a great day. Thank you.

Once again another lovely lunch here at the Merlin...ourselves and the girls were waited on hand and foot by the wonderful Gary and the cocktails were flowing from James on the bar! The menu and food options are always a treat for us here and always gives our Muriel a sandwich and salad choice:) - we love the chive mash by the way!!! Never get rid of it!!!

The pub itself is very pleasant and so is the food, however, it's another pub that has gone to the dogs. Another evening of dogs barking at each other, dogs off leads and owners feeding them snacks from tables. At times, it was more like a kennel club than a pub.

We hired The Cube on the front of The Merlin for my retirement gathering last night. Communications with Gary and the team were great right from the start of booking. The space was great plenty of room for our group of 28 clean and attractively presented. We had use of a sound system which was easy to set up with my phone. Our hosts were attentive, the food was good and I enjoyed a wonderful celebration with friends and colleagues. Thank you to all the staff especially Megan and Brad

Great service, the staff were great especially are waitress Annie she was lovely and kind would highly recommend going to the Merlin.

Went with good friends and family for dinner. Brad the assistant manager was professional and accommodating, creating an atmosphere where we felt welcomed and well looked after. The food was fantastic and great service from the team throughout. Even the children said they’d like to eat there again! Highly recommend.

Pop in for a breakfast before going away and like always perfect service and food was delicious. Kids was happy and def will be back .

We visited The Merlin on Sunday as part of a large group in the private dining room. The staff were very friendly and professional with nothing bieng too much trouble. We had the duo of beef and it was very succulent served with giant Yorkshire puddings. The rest of the family thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. Thank you Merlin for making our day special.

Lovely roast beef and roast chicken today with the wife. Served by the same lady as the last time we visited Deb. Excellent as always.

This was a lovely experience. The Sunday lunch was first rate and the service was lovely. Debs served our table and she was fantastic! Our daughter is disabled and they did everything they could to make her comfortable.

Having stayed in numerous hotels in Chester, Cheshire and Manchester this was the most disappointing of all. The room was very tired, small and in need of a freshen up and didn’t feel clean. The en-suite door creaked in Dolby surround sound as did the landing floor so we were woken throughout the night early hours by other hotel guests. Can’t comment on the food as we spent the day in Alderney Edge where there are some lovely bars and eateries. Very disappointing stay .

Came here for a meal and a few drinks and the food and service were absolutely incredible! Would highly recommend to others, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and there was a great atmosphere. Will be returning!

Went for a cheeky beverage over the Easter weekend, nice selection of cocktails and mocktails. The bartender helped make a solid drinks choice, I went for the Cuban Mai Tai! Friends also enjoyed a Baileys Martini and the Elderflower Sherbet drink. The barman was very friendly and enthusiastic, and whipped up all our drinks very quickly and had them sent over to our table for us so we didn't have to wait at the bar.

We went for lunch as we had been here a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The starter of squid was really lovely, my husband had the chicken burger, he said it was cooked well, however for the price expected a little better presentation. I had the fish cakes, they were a little dry and tasteless unfortunately. However, the atmosphere was good and the staff were very friendly. What took us by surprise was the bill! We opted for the 2 course set lunch which was £18.99 each. I had a starter and main, my husband had a main and pudding. When presented with the bill we had noticed we were charged for a 3 course and then my fish cakes separately. This made the bill approx £5 more than it should have been. I mentioned it to the waitress who said it was annoying that the system works it out like that but she can’t override it. We paid and left. We felt a little cheated as we ordered a 2 course set lunch and ended up paying for a 3 course and full price for the fish cakes which cost us more in the long run. We were a little upset because of the pricing and the fact that the food was just ok, it didn’t really make an enjoyable lunch. I don’t think we will return unfortunately in a hurry.

The Merlin has a great menu and the food delivers, expectations met. In fact we sent a thank you to the chef because both our meals were so good. The waiting on staff were good too. Returned to The Merlin for a family meal. Food was great as it always has been and great service as usual by Annie and Megan. We have also been to the quiz a few times on a Monday night, which is great and brings out the competitive side of you.

Absolutely love The Merlin it's always been a favourite venue of mine and even more so in January when they do 50% off! The service is great, super friendly and welcoming and the food always top notch. My squid and steak were cooked to perfection and the mini desserts are just enough when you just want a taste of something sweet. I'm holding an important event there in February in the cube and have no reservations now that I've chosen the right venue.
