This was the very best Sunday lunch to date. Everything was perfectly cooked with an exceptional choice of freshly cooked veg , gorgeous real stuffing, tasty gravy and freshly roasted beef/ turkey. Absolutely superb. Staff are so sociable and room so airy, spotlessly clean and spacious. Very reasonable price. Looking forward to our next visit. Free car park with plenty of spaces.

Myself and my friends were training on the Carmarthen campus, and cannot put into words how good our service was! Joel was especially helpful, always providing service with a smile and going the extra mile to ensure a fantastic dining experience. We’ll definitely be returning here, da iawn Myrddin!

We visit the Merlin Restaurant at The University of Wales Trinity Saint David for the occasional Sunday Carvery. The ambience is most relaxing and the variety of vegetables is amazing! The choice and quality of meats is also excellent!

Stayed in the university for a weekend. Terrible storms and flooding all weekend. But ... the Merlin Restaurant within the Uni was worth all the battling against the elements!! Food was exceptional, staff were brilliant and the manager was one of the most fun, witty, and professional I’ve come across in a long time. He kept his eyes 👀 scanning over the staff and the restaurant constantly! Genius

Well presented, clean establishment which serves reasonably priced drinks and food. There is plenty of room to sit without bumping into anyone else which is a novelty in this day and age. The staff are efficient and pleasant when serving you and appear to enjoy their work.

I had dinner here on mothering Sunday with my mum in law and 2 young children. It was obviously well booked up with a constant flow of people arriving, many who hadn't booked but were accommodated. It was lovely to see they hadn't increased their prices because it was mothering Sunday. We had a choice of 4 meats; beef, Turkey, gammon and chicken. Beautiful fresh vegetables cooked to perfection and not soggy or soft and overcooked. Stuffing, roast potatoes and parsnips are always the best here!! Gravy was slightly too watery for me but tasted lovely. My children are fussy and need persuading when it comes to vegetables but they both cleared their plates and enjoyed the ice cream and squash that came with their bargain £5.50 meal deal. My mother in law always has something to say when we eat out and isn't easily pleased but she couldn't stop praising the meal....and the rice pudding was a big hit for her!! Lovely staff and were asked a couple of times during our meal if we were ok and if we needed anything. We were finished by about 12.45 and could see that people were still flowing in steadily so we said we would vacate our table but told not to rush. I have to say, I always have a top Sunday dinner here and I can relax as there's enough room for the children not to feel they are confined to one place. Today they had a run around outside in the safe surroundings. Oh and the complimentary crayons and colouring in sheets were a big hit too....would suggest keeping this a regular thing....it entertained my two for a good 10 - 15 mins!

Lovely place,no queuing, two meats and fresh vegetables but no mash potatoes, which really let the lunch down, also the swede was in big chunks, would be so much nicer mashed, pudding choice was great, place is very spacious and clean except for the entrance which was full of grass and leaves, toilets were also very untidy,no soap and no toilet paper in two of the toilets but all in all not a bad experience, would have given it 5 stars if there had been mash.

I came here for Sunday dinner last week with my 2 young children, who aren't the best eaters when it comes to vegetables! I had the Pork roast and the children had chicken which was great as chicken is always a hit with them, and not all places have it available on a Sunday. There was a great selection of vegetables (including cauliflower cheese and roast parsnips) and a good portion of meat. The roast potatoes were beautiful and the kids loved them! My son, who never clears his dinner ate the lot....broccoli and carrots included and i could he really enjoyed it. I love the fact that there is plenty of space in the restaurant and i didn't feel my noisy children were disrupting anybody else's dinner! We had a lovely sit outside in the autumn sun afterwards and the children had a run around on the grounds. Highly recommend it to anyone but especially if you have young children. Staff were helpful and polite. We will be back very soon! Thank you!

Amazing tasting food, puddings all home made, really great price & they actually listen to customer suggestions & feedback. They even write what they've done to make it better on a board. Really fresh & vibrant surroundings, happy helpful staff & the chance to win your dinner if you leave feedback. Fantastic place that the whole family can enjoy. Loved a walk around the grounds to let my dinner settle :)

Came here for the first time today. I had Sunday lunch, which was a carvery. It was nice enough but I've had better. The food wasn't particularly warm, and the plate was cold which didn't help - I have always received a warm plate at other places when having a carvary. Choice of 2 potatoes (roast and new - no mash unfortunately). Choice of 3 meats - chicken, beef and pork. Cabbage, carrots, swedes and green beans, and cauliflower cheese and stuffing also available. Gravy and other sauces available but away from the carvary itself which was strange. Gravy wasn't particularly warm at all. Good choice of non-alcoholic drinks, as well as some alcoholic, drinks available. Setting was very school cafeteria rather than a comfortable restaurant, but I suppose this is to be expected at an university. Large seating area with enty of tables and seats, but tables large rather than made for small groups of two or four. Disappointing and very surprising that none of the staff who served me spoke Welsh. A great let down.

Called again here and enjoyed freshly roasted meats and freshly boiled real vegetables! Roast potatoes and parsnips were absolutely lush and the freshly home made stuffing was gorgeous. Generous slices of meat and help yourself to all the veg. Fabulous puddings just like mam makes ! Don't be put off with all the cars parked in the free car park - most are attending the nearby church. Seating is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. A relaxing and tasty Sunday lunch very much appreciated at an extremely reasonable price.

Within easy walking distance of Carmarthen Town there is also ample parking and disabled access. Sunday Lunch is a traditional two course Carvery served 12:00 till 2:00 pm, with a choice of at least two roasts and a high quality vegetarian option. There is always a good selection of vegetables; their Cauliflower Cheese and Roast Parsnips in Honey are particular favourites of ours. Only came across this hidden cafe with a community spirited hostess on our way back to South Wales & were smitten by how friendly and accommodating they were. If anyone in your group has a hidden need, for example avoiding cafes with a cabinet full of coca cola cans, Croes y Ceiliog at Llanwrda has the solution, making you feel like a family member. Their tasty home made food too = return visit a definite!

Plenty of parking, I liked the layout which didn’t put you too close to other diners and not cramped, amazing views and good ambiance, the service was spot on and the food was of a very good standard, plentiful and all arrived hot and beautiful presented. My first time visiting here, definitely won’t be the last and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I do not cook at all when The Penny Black is open ! I feel really sorry for cafes and restaurants like this ! It's not their fault that they are unable to open up at the moment still ! The Post office is an integral part of the Burry Port community and as such will have struggled to retain their loyal clientele! Not everyone is,driven by price but as I intend to eat there 3 or 4 times a week , still, I'm very grateful that the prices are priced really realistically , as I'm single and only on my works pension, still ! Lol x Thanks for all the care the staff gave given me since moving to Burry Port/ Pembrey. South Wales. Th

Called in here at the weekend for a takeaway meal to enjoy on the beach, the food was far better than I expected, thought this was just a greasy spoon but I was very wrong. The cake especially was lovely. Will definitely be spending more of my money here rather than st elli bay from now on.
