Need more chips. And it was a bit nippy in there. Service was very good.

The food was great The service was great & everyone was very welcoming The whole atmosphere of the place is very nice & there's a river that runs next to it with some outdoor seating Highly recomended

The carvery is second to none. The gravy is divine, and the service was outstanding, always a smile on the girls there .

First visit to this pub. Busy car park. Nice looking pub on the side of the river. Inside was really nice and very warm. We came for the Sunday carvery and we have been disappointed with a lot of local pubs and their carvery. This one was well cooked my only personal downside was the choice of meat was limited to beef/turkey and gammon and the portion size for the meat was not great for £15. Soda water was £2.50 when a lot of restaurants don't charge or just a token fee. The pub has a nice atmosphere and we will go back but on a weekday when the carvery is cheaper and better value

Lovely place to stay, food amazing, breakfast excellent

An honest to goodness carvery in a place we had driven by many times but did not know of. Glad our friends introduced us to it's good old home cooking style restaurant. Tremendous value at £13 mid-week carvery and other bargain set menu options. Two well cooked meats, beef and turkey. Both succulent. Good selection of nicely done veg, all smothered in rich gravy. Lots of sauces to accompany. Proper Yorkshires too. None of your Aunt Bessie fakes here. Too well filled for a dessert. Will have to do better next time!

Fantastic experience with eloquent food and service.

This little hidden gem is a perfect example of excellent welsh hospitality. It's more like visiting your favourite grandparents for Sunday roast than eating out! Phoned for a table last minute on a Sunday to be told none available but they had an outside heated covered area. Was greeted by lovely friendly staff and a proper welsh landlord/barman. Big smile. Friendly chat and good banter. Sat us outside and apologised they had no space indoor. The outside seating was warm with heat lights, comfy with nice seating and even overlooked the little river, Was perfect. We essentially had a private waterside dinning experience. The food was proper home cooked roast with all the trimmings 10/10! Better than any Toby carvery! Attentive staff even came and told us the boss had offered free pudding as an apology for not being able to sit us inside! Above and beyond generous! 10/10 will be back with the family!

Food very nice and good service

A generous portion of meat choice of beef, turkey and roast gammon. Mashed potato superb, parsnips and potatoes were roasted to perfection plus a good selection of other veg, including cauliflower cheese. We were not disappointed, in fact we were impressed. Definitely call there again.

Ordered t bone, juicy and cooked to perfection. Lovely chocolate fudge for desert .10/10

It is a great place to have a wonderful meal, all the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Had a fabulous meal the staff were really friendly and helpfull only one complaint the seats had no padding or cushions so really hard l sat on my coat but would certainly recommend this place for a great evening.

Omg the food was fabulous. We live in Birmingham and come to visit a friend We had a meal and pudding could not fault it at all was mouthwatering and the staff was brilliant. Would highly recommend 👌 😀

They said try our "famous ribs" so I did although it's something I wouldn't normally choose, I'm glad I did they were excellent. There is a great covered outside area that overlooks the river which is beautiful. There is plenty of parking next to the pub.

Asked for a takeaway and was told I had to phone, so had a sit down meal instead, only space was outside in the cold, was not impressed with the food today at all. I usually have a take away and it’s been very nice and you can pile on the food but they now dish up food before you come so not happy about that either, paid 13.99 today just for a plate as waiter service was non existent. Food today was a 3-4 out of ten, way below what I normally get hope next time it improves.took the scrapes home for the dog in foil hope he enjoyes

Wednesday carvery at the George. First thing you notice, no small plates. I think this is the best carvery I've had in a pub or restaurant. Can't say it's the best carvery I've ever had in case the love of my life reads this. Food is always good here. Would recommend.

Phoned at 15:30 to request a table for two for the following sunday. Asked to ring back at 6pm when they weren't in service - made to feel like an inconvenience. Phoned another venue and they took my booking with no problem. Disappointing first impression as I have heard good reviews about the carvery. UPDATE as I cannot reply to The George's comment. I was not told about the online booking system which I would have been happy to use had I had known. ALL customers are important 😊 your response to call me a right one and to continue visiting elsewhere is appalling and shocking. I hope you don't speak to your customers like this in person.

Never been here before even though I live locally. Came here today for their Sunday carvery and we were turned away and told they were full, even though there were plenty of free tables outside and just the two of us. Told they had no spare food. Obviously counting the spuds!

I had been craving a carvery for a while and this definitely hit the spot! Everything I put on my plate was delicious, and if I wasn't in a restaurant I would have licked my plate clean. I would have liked a third choice of meat, such as ham or pork, and something like cauliflower cheese would have been perfect. But I definitely can't complain about anything we ate! Will absolutely be back for more.

Fabulous food, huge portions and good service! Highly recommended.

Pre booked meal (menu already chosen) for large group, booked for 7 pm but food didn't start to come out until 7.45-8pm. Starters were nice, main course was average nothing special and parts of my main meal were not even provided or offered even though they were included on the menu, though one other member of the group had chosen exactly the same and was offered a choice of sides to go with his. Won't be a regular haunt for food.

My friend's family relatives live in a local village and had already been a number of times, especially for Sunday Lunch, so had no hesitation in taking us out for dinner to here. Found the staff very friendly and attentive in a cosy atmosphere. The meals were just lovely and very filling. Wishing this restaurant much success and that many guests enjoy also, either from the local area or from visitors like us.

Lovely lunch time menu, reasonably priced

We went to the George to have a Sunday roast. (It was delicious)My mother who has a very unusual allergy couldn't have the roast however the staff and owner were very helpful and offered an alternative. We were very grateful for their help. Service was friendly and quick.

We have been meaning to go to this pub for some time. Absolutely loved it. Staff were brilliant and the food was amazing. Fantastic menu cooked by really good chefs. Had to ask one of them for the Welsh Starter recipe. Cant recommend this pub highly enough. Thank you for a really good night out.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would..been there twice in the last month and going again soon..the cockles and laverbread with cheese on top is superb for a starter..and I had the 20 oz rump with onion rings as extra..superb meal all round, ps, the service is fab too,well done to the girls.

First time for lunch at the George IV Inn... it was amazing Service from Claire, Jesse and Cath , who were very friendly and polite, was first class. Had the midweek carvery, couldn't fault it, plenty of everything, nice added touch of helping yourself to a gravy boat to take to the table. Exceptional value for money, would highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.We will definitely be returning very soon.

My wife and I went here for food this afternoon. Our first night away from the kids in years. The George was always a nice place to go however it is absolutely fantastic there now. The best it’s ever been. Professional & friendly staff with a great service, one of the best I have experienced. The food is out of this world and we throughly enjoyed, the wait for our first night alone together was well worth the wait and we will be going back there very soon with our girls. Thank you very much

Didn't stay here just had a meal. Just your usual pub grub. Burgers, rib's etc. Food pretty good. Very busy when we were there but food didn't take too long and it was hot and freshly cooked. Nice staff.

*UPDATE* Our 3rd visit yesterday evening and again fantastic food and wonderful service recieved. I'm starting to worry we won't get in if I keep recommending to people lol . The chips are the best I've ever tasted 😋. I never leave a review after a 1st vist if I revist that's a great sign and I like to see consistency within the service , food etc before leaving a honest review . Our 2nd visit last night was equally as good as the 1st the ambiance of the George is absolutely beautiful so homely , clean and welcoming, attentive staff and owners who go above an beyond . The food is absolutely outstanding from the varied selection , price, portion size, presentation and taste we really can't fault it ! We have definitely found our go to place and it's well worth the drive ! Looking forward to our next visit already 😋 .

Lovely clean spacious friendly service plenty of parking. Opted for Mid week carvery Beef/turkey roast potatoes/roast parsnip’s Yorkshire pud, mash potatoes, Swede, peas, stuffing, carrots cabbage gravy. Unfortunately we very disappointed after hearing such good reviews, beef very tough cabbage not cooked but bucket of salt in everything im a lover of salt but way to much speaking with other diners everyone was complaining that it tasted like the sea . Hence we wasted most of meal what a shame very disappointing.

Great food, absolutely fantastic. But we had to wait 20 minutes just to get served initially. Midday meal, as I said great food, the waitress was brilliant but the wait spoliied it a bit.

Very friendly staff, very accomadatingly squeezed us in for dinner as we hadn't booked, food was lovely! I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment.. Will definitely be returning

The pub is very pleasant but don’t make the mistake of thinking it is dog friendly based on some of the reviews. They must have been sitting outside in the summer. There are no dogs allowed inside.

A local treasure with really well prepared and plentiful food. Good choice of food options throughout the menu. Lovely old pub, oak beams, open fires in the winter, a real old in perfectly preserved. Staff and waiting service were friendly and professional. Parking is a bit of an issue, but best if you book ahead as its seriously popular.

We have always had a lovely meal at the George. However, today I was extremely disappointed at the service we received.each sitting is permitted 90 minutes. However, having completed our main course in 30 minutes we were continually asked did we want a dessert without being able to digest and enjoy our meal. It felt worse than a fast food dinner. Not once but 3 times the waitress leant in front of us whilst eating to serve a meal to the others in our party. Poor form. You go for food to enjoy not to feel rushed and an inconvenience. May think twice about returning sadly. Amazing chefs just poor front of house

Haven't been here since it reopened. I managed to book a table at short notice. I'm quite fussy when it comes to a carvery. I will say I was pleasantly surprised. The place was brighter, nice clean shiny tables and the food was lovely. Staff were friendly and attentive. It had a nice calm atmosphere and very relaxing. Will definitely go again. !!

The food I had was delicious, but..... No vegan starters, 3 vegan mains, the usual curry, lasagne and burger, not much imagination but I suppose a choice of sorts. For desert there was lemon sorbet or vanilla ice-cream, both vegan but that was it and I was charged the same price as others having cake and ice-cream £5.95 and to finish off they put a flake in the ice-cream, I asked if it was vegan as I doubted it, they assured me it was. It wasn't, they don't make a vegan flake, vegetarian yes, but not vegan. Will I be returning? Not unless things change. I'm no chef and I can make several vegan cakes and countless starters and mains. Must try harder!
