The George IV Inn in Carmarthenshire

Just moved into the area and found this as our new local! I honestly have said on Google but again here the experience as a whole was unbelievable! Every aspect was incredible! Food, service, staff, setting and parking! If your looking for food going is here a must!! Absolutely over the moon to know this is our new local and being able to enjoy meals here and drinks here for years to come is very much on our agenda!!

A triumph once again. Magnificent food, helpful, curtious staff, a vast array of food/drinks and good amenities. Ample car parking and seating, always a full restaurant.

My wife and I went for a lunchtime carvery which we hadn't visited in a good while. We'd forgotten how good it was. Beef and turkey was so tender, Yorkshire puds, plenty of roasted pots and parsnips. Along with stuffing, loads of veg and a lovely gravy. We booked a table, glad we did as it was very full. As soon as we sat down, our drinks order was taken and we were able to get our food immediately. Everything was hot and fresh. My wife managed an apple crumble with custard, served by a very friendly member of staff. Looking forward to trying the evening menu with a few drinks before Christmas. Thanks Rylan and Sian

Today we made our third visit in a month to the George and had the most fantastic carvery (the best produce, superbly prepared) which was equalled only by the service we received from the lovely Charlie again. I booked a table for 4 for the Sunday carvery. The carvery selection was excellent three meat options & a good selection of vegetables. The food was fresh & regularly replenished. We were also offered a Nut roast for vegetarians. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, we did not order a dessert, main meal was more than sufficient. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Xmas. We all agreed we will definitely return in the future & also recommend to friends & family.

We stopped at this delightful pub on our trip through Wales. Service was outstanding. The carvery was absolutely delicious. Good wholesome homecooked food.

The food was nicely done, free salad bar while you wait

Had a delicious carvery on Sunday (24/11/24). Choice of 3 meats. Self service: Yorkshire pudding. Mash and roast potatoes. Cauliflower cheese. Sweed, carrots, peas, parsnips, and plenty of gravy and sauces on offer. They had no problem with us bringing our own celebration cake for my mums 70th. The staff were so friendly and helpful in making our meal a special experience.

Perfect, Absolutely Perfect! The food was incredible and the complimentary salad bar, which was equally as amazing as the main course, was a lovely addition. Everything was spotlessly clean and the food arrived in perfect time but the thing that stands out the most, above anything else, was how consistently good the service was. I can’t wait to return !

Fantastic welcome and fantastic food

Just left after our first visit and the carvery was absolutely stunning equalled only by the service from Charlie. We've already rebooted.

A party of five, the service from the waitresses was excellent, nothing was too much bother. The food was lovely, except for the baked potato I chose to have as the potato option to my meal. It was powdery in you mouth, very overdone, but apart from that, nothing to grumble about. Overall, would recommend, and will be returning to try thier carvery.

Had Sunday carvery 3rd November delicious

Went for lunch today what an amazing meal and service food was perfect.The steak was cooked perfect and like butter chicken with peri peri sauce outstanding. Can't rate this place any better and the coleslaw on the salad bar to die for my wife liked it so much we took some home with us.

Excellent food, service and setting. Good Value for money. The meal was well cooked and tasted great. The choice of vegetables was good and the gravy was very good. This was made even better by extensive salad bar for healthier eating choice. The salad was a great compliment to our delicious chicken and rib meal. Thankyou for making our day so special!

Had a great meal here for my dads birthday we all had the free salad bowls witch was lovely also had starters witch was really nice and full of flavour the mains was really well cooked I had the mega mixed grill platter which was really enjoyable we also had desserts that was just as nice would highly recommend this place for food or special occasion would say it’s ten out of ten

Visited on recommendation from a friend of my partner. Couldn't fault a single thing. It is so lovely and cosy inside the pub, loved the atmosphere! We were given just the right amount of time to look at the menus before being asked what we would like. My partner had the ribeye steak with cajun fries, I had the scampi and chunky chips. Both of us really enjoyed. His steak was cooked exactly as he had requested and was so lovely and juicy. My scampi was the best I've had, and I've had alot of scampi! Can't wait for our next visit back!

Very nice and cosy inside. Steak cooked to perfection but chips much to be desired and couldn't taste the garlic in the garlic mushrooms. Not much time between starter and main so felt too rushed for us. Had to ask for side plates for bread but they couldn't find any and had to ask for steak knives. So lovely steak and building inside but room for improvement

Traveled 45 mins to get here ad it stats food served all day. Arrived at 3.30 to be told they stopped serving ad they needed a break,when asked what time we're they back serving she said there fully booked. Will never recommend after this

Went for dinner, we had booked a table for two. It's a lovely looking cosy traditional but spacious pub. There is a big fireplace with a log burner, it's really nice. I ordered the 20oz steak and the missus ordered the 10oz with a side of scampi. They both came with mushrooms, a tomato a spring of lettuce, a salad bar a choice of different chips, we just had normal ones. It was great food, the steaks were very well cooked, a rare a medium rare, and tasted lovely, juicy, no gristle, plenty of colour. All of the sides were good, the salad bar was well stocked fresh and definitely added to the experience. Service was polite and efficient, it was all good. Prices while not cheap are very reasonable, quality is great, choice is great and we will back many times no doubt. If you are debating whether to try here or the Ancient Britton up the road, the George IV wins on every measure. Really nice. They also do some huge platters and grills that we saw being carried past, they looked amazing as well. We live locally so we didn't try the rooms, but had we had one of the massive grill platters we have needed too 😋

Always excellent best Sunday dinner around but book early in week or you won’t get in Great new chef food as good as prev chef

This was our first visit to the George. What a gem this place is. The food was delicious, great portion sizes. The service was first class. We will definitely be back very soon 🙂

Visited the Geogre for Sunday lunch today with friends and overall it was a bit of a let down, the quality of the food was absolutely outstanding to be fair, but the overall service and an interaction with an extremely patronising manager on a power trip totally spoiled it for our group. After finishing our meals, one memeber of our party (who's had gastric surgery) explained she wasn't able to finish her dinner and asked for a container to take it away, a member of staff came back with a piece of foil, having already been provided a takeaway dinner packaged in a foil tray we asked if we could just have another to make transporting the leftovers easier. The staff member advised they only have a certain number of foil containers and apologised she couldn't provide another, we pointed to a pile of foil trays on the cafvey and asked if we could purchase one which is exactly what the takeaway dinner had been packed in that was sitting on our table, she said no and advised that she'd have to send the manager over. The manager came around, and from the second he appeared at the table appeared very patronising and confrontational. The manager begin to explain that takeaways are provided I foil trays but left overs would only he packaged in tin foil sheets, he explained that this was to stop people from piling their plates and to control stock, which I completely understand. We tried to explain that we weren't looking for any extra food, we just wanted to take what was left on one plate, explained that as a result of surgery the diner was not able to finish the meal not because she had taken the piss and piled her plate high, highlighted that we'd already been provided packaging for a takeaway dinner which we were happy to pay extra for another, we're literally looking at a pile of foil trays behind us and noted that the carvery had already closed and all food had been removed so there was no risk in us taking more. Throughout the entire interaction the manager talked over us, patronised us and made reference to not wanting to fall out. In the end we laughed it off and asked for tin foil. We then sat there for around 30 mins before a member of staff came to clear the table, had to ask again for a sheet of foil and decided to leave having not been offered any dessert. Upon paying the bill, it was noted that a takeaway dinner costs 12 pound, which is nicely packed in study containers. The dinner which was scraped into a sheet of tinfoil, cost 16 pounds. Though I understand why they might not offer sturdy packaging to manage their stock and discourage people from being greedy, a little common sense would have gone a long way on this occasion for a tabke that had spent 130 pounds on lunch and drinks. Aside from the dissapointing interaction with the manager, the overall service was slow and having to sit there for 30 mins in an empty restaurant with dirty plates in front of us and kids asking when Dessert would be coming was a bit of a shame considering the food was excellent. Totally spoiled our experience and won't be returning.

Excellent carvery, generous portions of quality meat and veg not overcooked. One of our party of 10 had coeliac disease, but the manager was on it and his manner reassured us that all the necessary precautions with cross contamination would be observed. Would recommend without hesitation.

Came here a month ago with my wife and sat in the conservatory. She had lasagne and I had half rack of ribs and chips with salad and bourbon sauce. Fantastic. Went back this week after thinking about our meals for so long and really looking forward again. My wife had carvery and I ordered the same half rack of ribs. The first time I had seven ribs in loads of bourbon sauce chips and salad with tomatoes so expecting same again. my meal had four ribs which were very grisly hardly any meat and to make up for the lack of ribs loads of chips half a plate and just leaves no tomatoes. No bourbon sauce. Very poor. Came away hungry. Last time half my plate was ribs and a container of chips which were great. Chips took over meal through lack of ribs . Why change things when you had such a good meal before. Won't be back for a while. Pub was cold too.

Lunch with daughter and son in-law. Service was excellent, our waitress was lovely, and the food also excellent. Have to take husband next time

Visited yesterday 26/8/24 family of four. Our first time. The food was outstanding and excellent service all around. The manager accommodated my allergies and was put at ease. We will definitely go back again Well done to all staff.

Brilliant place to eat, great food and service. They even have Coleman's mustard, always a plus point. The only disappointment was the lack of choice of cider. Inches or Koppaberg both are not really cider, had to go with an IPA instead.

Brilliant place for Sunday lunch with a nice river view in the outside heated seating area.

We all had the carvery. The meats and potatoes were 10 out of 10. Unfortunately the vegetables were only a 7 out of 10. They were cooked OK but boring and some were canned or frozen. No cauliflower cheese and yorkies just ok. But will go back again.

We have been going to the George for years but tonight my husband had a fillet steak that was very expensive for what it was, he asked for medium but it was overdone. He had one mushroom, grilled tomato and not even a proper salad. Chips used to be homemade but they were frozen. The rest of us had an ok meal but nothing compared to what it used to be like. They were starting to pack away, put chairs on tables etc while we were eating! Made us feel like we had to rush and it was 8:30pm! I’m so disappointed because I used to work here and it was always so lovely and food was first class

Called in after visiting a garden centre nearby on the off chance they had a table, they were fully booked but very accommodating and managed to seat us outside. The service was impeccable and the carvery was amazing! Everything cooked to perfection, huge portions at a reasonable price. It was so nice myself and my sister ordered a takeaway carvery for our husbands as we felt bad they would miss out. Recently moved close by and will definitely return.

Can't say about the food as never had any. Table booked for 14.00. Got there 13.35. 14.00 still waiting to park as no space. Read on line it was dog friendly but when I walked in was told don't take dogs. If that's the case why not state only in the garden but no room as the garden was full of families with kids so had to cancel. Luckily pub down the road love's dogs . Why allow children but nod well behaved small dogs..

What a cosy country pub. The ribs were incredible and it all went down nicely with a pint of Inch's. Service was spot on too. Sarah was super friendly! Would love to come back to try their Carvery 😋

First visit to this pub. Busy car park. Nice looking pub on the side of the river. Inside was really nice and very warm. We came for the Sunday carvery and we have been disappointed with a lot of local pubs and their carvery. This one was well cooked my only personal downside was the choice of meat was limited to beef/turkey and gammon and the portion size for the meat was not great for £15. Soda water was £2.50 when a lot of restaurants don't charge or just a token fee. The pub has a nice atmosphere and we will go back but on a weekday when the carvery is cheaper and better value

Lovely place to stay, food amazing, breakfast excellent

An honest to goodness carvery in a place we had driven by many times but did not know of. Glad our friends introduced us to it's good old home cooking style restaurant. Tremendous value at £13 mid-week carvery and other bargain set menu options. Two well cooked meats, beef and turkey. Both succulent. Good selection of nicely done veg, all smothered in rich gravy. Lots of sauces to accompany. Proper Yorkshires too. None of your Aunt Bessie fakes here. Too well filled for a dessert. Will have to do better next time!

Fantastic experience with eloquent food and service.

This little hidden gem is a perfect example of excellent welsh hospitality. It's more like visiting your favourite grandparents for Sunday roast than eating out! Phoned for a table last minute on a Sunday to be told none available but they had an outside heated covered area. Was greeted by lovely friendly staff and a proper welsh landlord/barman. Big smile. Friendly chat and good banter. Sat us outside and apologised they had no space indoor. The outside seating was warm with heat lights, comfy with nice seating and even overlooked the little river, Was perfect. We essentially had a private waterside dinning experience. The food was proper home cooked roast with all the trimmings 10/10! Better than any Toby carvery! Attentive staff even came and told us the boss had offered free pudding as an apology for not being able to sit us inside! Above and beyond generous! 10/10 will be back with the family!

Food very nice and good service

A generous portion of meat choice of beef, turkey and roast gammon. Mashed potato superb, parsnips and potatoes were roasted to perfection plus a good selection of other veg, including cauliflower cheese. We were not disappointed, in fact we were impressed. Definitely call there again.

Ordered t bone, juicy and cooked to perfection. Lovely chocolate fudge for desert .10/10

It is a great place to have a wonderful meal, all the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Had a fabulous meal the staff were really friendly and helpfull only one complaint the seats had no padding or cushions so really hard l sat on my coat but would certainly recommend this place for a great evening.

Omg the food was fabulous. We live in Birmingham and come to visit a friend We had a meal and pudding could not fault it at all was mouthwatering and the staff was brilliant. Would highly recommend 👌 😀

Asked for a takeaway and was told I had to phone, so had a sit down meal instead, only space was outside in the cold, was not impressed with the food today at all. I usually have a take away and it’s been very nice and you can pile on the food but they now dish up food before you come so not happy about that either, paid 13.99 today just for a plate as waiter service was non existent. Food today was a 3-4 out of ten, way below what I normally get hope next time it improves.took the scrapes home for the dog in foil hope he enjoyes

They said try our "famous ribs" so I did although it's something I wouldn't normally choose, I'm glad I did they were excellent. There is a great covered outside area that overlooks the river which is beautiful. There is plenty of parking next to the pub.

Wednesday carvery at the George. First thing you notice, no small plates. I think this is the best carvery I've had in a pub or restaurant. Can't say it's the best carvery I've ever had in case the love of my life reads this. Food is always good here. Would recommend.

Phoned at 15:30 to request a table for two for the following sunday. Asked to ring back at 6pm when they weren't in service - made to feel like an inconvenience. Phoned another venue and they took my booking with no problem. Disappointing first impression as I have heard good reviews about the carvery. UPDATE as I cannot reply to The George's comment. I was not told about the online booking system which I would have been happy to use had I had known. ALL customers are important 😊 your response to call me a right one and to continue visiting elsewhere is appalling and shocking. I hope you don't speak to your customers like this in person.

Never been here before even though I live locally. Came here today for their Sunday carvery and we were turned away and told they were full, even though there were plenty of free tables outside and just the two of us. Told they had no spare food. Obviously counting the spuds!

I had been craving a carvery for a while and this definitely hit the spot! Everything I put on my plate was delicious, and if I wasn't in a restaurant I would have licked my plate clean. I would have liked a third choice of meat, such as ham or pork, and something like cauliflower cheese would have been perfect. But I definitely can't complain about anything we ate! Will absolutely be back for more.
