Hiya this demi, the girl who had a complaint about Kenny the ‘head doorman’ i just wanted to put in writing how threatened i felt by this man and how uncomfortable i felt in general. Once my friend had already left the doors this is when she was notified that she would not be allowed back in. Once i disputed the fact that she was not notified before leaving inside of the venue, Kenny became very aggressive and started kicking the door back when i was trying to speak to my friend inside. It almost felt like he was on a ‘power trip’ and started speaking down to me in a very belittling way. he said and i quote ‘if i was your dad i would be ashamed of you’ and that ‘i would never want a daughter as slaggy as you’. his actions let alone his words made me feel so uncomfortable to the point that i didn’t want to return anyway. No other staff members were present at this time, incase he tries to change his story based on other witnesses. This is unacceptable behaviour! I work in and have worked in bars before and never have my security team ever spoken to a member of the public in this way ever before. i am absolutely disgusted and devastated that anyone would ever be spoken to like this, let alone someone who is supposed to be maintaining a level of professionalism. We had a great night at The Merchant and experienced no problem’s before an unexpected and threatening issue occurred between myself and the ‘head doorman’ Kenny. My friends and I have attended the Merchant on may occasions and never had an issue however after this incident, after being aggressively attacked by Kenny, i feel that my friends and i will have to avoid this venue in future.

Friendly kind welcoming pub, great to come out to Watch football with the lads and great also for a night out. Since Rick has taken over , he’s made the place much better

Nice place to watch sports but gets very busy on weekends. Drinks cheap but cocktail s have increased, not really a deal getting two cocktails for £14! It’s not London but nice place to go in brentwood and staff always great.

The two team working were awesome, Lucy and Fin, they provide table service. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Food is really good and a great selection of beer - my new favourite place

Today we have received really awful service by Samantha Bruce (the wife of the manager). We’ve always had the most amazing service by the other staff like Fin and Georgia. Samantha was rude and unhelpful. She ignored us at the bar, while serving other people. I’m really upset and disappointed, as this is meant to be a family friendly place.

Brilliant venue to watch live sports, play darts or pool and enjoy a beer! Me and my partner has a brilliant time. Great sports bar.

First visit. Popped in here for a quick half and was so impressed with what I found that I stayed for lunch. The beer selection was great. The staff and manager were friendly and knowledgeable and the burgers were immense. I will definitely be back.

We always come in to watch the F1 every Sunday. Really lovely staff, always very accommodating & friendly. Great food too.

The staff are very accommodating to our fussy eating requirements! We ordered lots of dishes to share and everything was lovely! We came to celebrate the king’s coronation and had a wonderful time. Will definitely return! Special mention to Georgia and Finn ⭐️⭐️

What a lovely welcome from Jack and the team when we arrived too late to catch the last of the sun outside and had my pooch with me. He was invited in and greeted with an offer of a bowl of water and treats (if he was allowed). We stayed for a bite to eat - nice! Bonus it's one of the very few places in Brentwood with a pool table and dart board. Thanks and see you again!

Rick was a fantastic host and he served us promptly and he resolved the serious issue of a glass breaking with blood sweat and tears (in order to save us from hurting ourselves). Ps the pizza was bloody fantastic

Jacks service and work ethic was 110% I would recommend the food and drink there and the service was second to none, service with a smile and made my visit worth while

I visited The Merchant in Brentwood with friends to watch the Football on a Sunday, great atmosphere, incredible service from one of the workers called Katie. I cannot fault the drinks, the food and the vibes. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for either a night out, a stop off for some food when visiting the high street or a pint with sports. It truly is the home of sport ⚽️

Ive been there a couple of times to watch Formula 1 on Sundays. The cocktails taste like cough medicine...just only worse. Food is not even good enough to feed your dog. Only thing worth having is a pint of beer. Everything else is...Well, better change place. But the most annoying thing is when i go to there to watch something (thats not football) its just impossible. One time it was only football in the whole place. Second time only 1 TV was showing the Austrian Grand Prix, but without sound. And when i asked if they can turn the sound on or if they can change the channel on one of the MANY TVs, the bartender said she cannot because the remote is with the manager and he is upstairs. Mind you, i was alone in the whole pub at that point. Honestly, just go to The Swan. Its nextdoor but much better in every way.

Fabulous selection of craft beers (9 I think) and the 4 i tried were well served, vast improvement on previous times. We have not been here for 2 or more years now and felt it was better than it used to be before we stopped....

Been here a good few times and always enjoyed our time here but having to pay over £5 a pint and £6 for a short to be served in plastic glasses,I understand later in the evening but it was pretty empty with proper empty glasses...

Rick served us and was the best bartender, he was outstanding and his customer service was fun and entreating. I would recommend this bar, for fun service and a great night out. Rick also gave us recommendations for what cocktail was best.

Plenty of space in here with loads of tvs everywhere with muliple sports being played on them,quite a few booths where you have your own tv,drinks spot on too

I’ve been a regular at the merchant most weekends but the service I got today was horrible. I booked a table for the England football match but I turned up 10 minutes late because of work and all my friends where already in there on the table. I got denied entrance even though I had a table booked under MY name and had a confirmation email to prove it, but they still wouldn’t let me in because it was “busy”. The way the manager spoke to me was disgusting, it was as if he couldn’t care less about me. He came out to talk to me and all he said was “The table you reserved is too full so you’ll have to go somewhere else”.... so I was left standing outside with no other way home whilst all my mates where in the pub. Nice way to treat someone who’s a regular at the pub So thankyou Paul (manager) for spoiling my day, leaving me stranded without my friends and basically telling me to do one!

Nice selection of ale's and food is good, especially the platter which is probably the best seller among people visiting in group.

I just wanna say trying to get served in here is like finding a needle in a hay sack but imagine Gabby who works here asking for your order and then tells you to wait because she wants to serve a staff member that is off shift absolutely disgusting the staff here really need to be talked to and there priorities right I would know I work in the industry it’s disgusting

Went here for a birthday night out. I drink gin I spent about £60 all doubles I came out there soba. Real rip off for spirits. I ask for a straw and the bar maid threw it in my drink.

We went on a Virgin Experience voucher for meal and drink. Even though we were at a lunch time when meals were half price were given zero flexibility on choice even to the extent that the Waygu burger was not available but an alternative replacement would cost extra. When we got the food it was unimpressive and the obviously oven chips were undercooked and solid inside. We were really disappointed although the staff tried to be pleasant.

We were here lots of time and amazing pub food. Ambience amazing after refurbishment and big variety platter and drink is our favourite there.

The burgers burgers where really good and I found one of new IPA favorites, the Brewdod Punk IPA. Very friendly waitress and we could try an alternative beer before ordering the next ones, but we stayed with the delicious Punk IPA.

I ordered a beer that was very hot. I asked to swap for a colder one and the manager asked me to pay for the new one. This is the right way how to loose customers.

It had been a while since I've eaten here and We were pleasantly surprised by the food, it tasted good and was presented really well. The only downside is I didn't expect the fairly small menu to be quite so expensive.

Got there just before 9 and they still served me food. Brilliant service the food was fantastic compliments to the chef.

The staff are friendly, the food is good value with lots of offers (2 mains for 9.50). The venue is nice. They have large TVs so you can enjoy lunch and watch the cricket. The quality of the food is average. I had fish and chips but the batter was a bit more than golden, that was a shame. The fish itself was nice. I would definitely return, but I will order something else. Maybe the hunter chicken or sausage and mash.

Went in to watch the rugby and football, although there were a lot of reserved tables the staff were very accommodating the food was very good and the drinks were priced well.

Rude bouncer, who is normally very nice early had a bad night and taking it out on everyone. Shame as used to come quite a to but will be going elsewhere now!

Cane here for lunch and was lucky enough to get a table outside, we ordered the small tapas style plates including the croquettes, pimento peppers, skewers and a few more.

Working in Brentwood is not the best, you drive to work so no after work social and it's one of the priciest (pretentious) places to eat. Add to that the work canteen is poor, pricey and leaves you feeling hungry and most days you take a cold lunch to work. A few of us have been looking to break this up with a team lunch "up the high street" but were put off by the prices however someone noticed that The Merchant was offering a lunch deal of a meal and a drink for £7- tried it, liked it, even the veggie enjoyed his offering. Personally I'd recommend not being veggie and going for the burgers but each to his own. Staff are always friendly and will have a laugh with you, food is dependable and good, not top notch cuisine but very good for the suburbs. Can't be too enthusiastic about good service because it's a pick your table/place your order venue so you do most of the work yourself.

By far one of the nicest, modern pubs I've visited. Would recommend it to anyone no matter what the occasion. I visited the pub before it's makeover and what a difference. The food was tasty, staff service was on point along with other perks including live sports. Overall for me it's a winner and has to be one of the best pubs in Essex. Will definitely be coming back!

Short and sweet review, quick stop for a drink and was impressed with this place. Great place to watch the Brentwood high street go by, food looked fantastic, wish I had tried the burgers. Many people seemed to be ordering the burgers...maybe next time.

I'm always dubious when I see just a couple of reviews and they're both high stars. But I can guarantee I don't work there and the place deserves five stars! Best cheesy cottage pie I've ever had and even better that the pint of my favourite IPA Brewdog was virtually free in their Pie and a Pint deal for £7.79!! It's a bit Sports Bar in there but it was busy, atmosphere good, decor great and the staff were very friendly. I will most definitely be going back there next time I'm in Brentwood.
