Part of a 2 course package while staying there. DO NOT choose this option. The portions are really small and the quality is nothing to write home about. Read other reviews of the hotel & restaurant, they are not wrong.

A number of choices for high tea. Chose their mini high tea which includes sandwiches, scones, salad and potato chips, clotted cream and jam. Tasted good. However, service was sparse and kind of snobbish. Cutlery given was only a knife and serviette! How is the customers going to eat the salad provided! Servers were too busy at the bar!

Restaurant staff were lovely, but the food less so. My wife ordered the fish and I had the lamb but both were well overcooked. My wife wasn’t given any cutlery for her main course. We waited for about 5 minutes, before I got up to get cutlery from another table. The first bill when it came was for another table, and the second bill was also incorrect. I gave up at that point and just paid the second bill.

On the whole the meal was good,,, not the best I have had in recent times, The Bloody Mary Prawn cocktail was tasteless and the worst I have ever had, The mains and pudding were a delight although the lamb mains could have done with a bit more on the plate. The caramelised potato was so small I could have ate it in one mouthful and it could have done with another veg. However the staff were so friendly and attentive.

We ate dinner as part of a resident short break. As pensioners our appetite is smaller so we really appreciate a truly quality meal with exquisitely tasting food, and this is available here. We began with woodpigeon breast served with toasted walnuts and sweet potato puree a delectable starter and appetite stimulant. My husband followed this with the chicken which he pronounced just right while I really enjoyed the rump of spring lamb, seasonal food and sweet tasting. The desserts were delicious too - with sticky toffee pudding in a butterscotch sauce for me and chocolate delice for him- neither over sweet nor cloying. The service was fine and with only short breaks between course it suited out tie schedule perfectly. A thoroughly enjoyable evening after an energetic day on the golf course.

We arrived to find our booking was wrong but thanks to Wesley, who is so helpful, we were given an even better room. A small hallway leading to very spacious room, dressing room with enormous bathroom. Only problem was the bed was not well made and no remote for the TV, but within an hour the bed was remade with new linen and pillows, plus a new remote supplied, all staff being so helpful. We had a cream tea which was included in our package, in the lounge/bar which has great views over the beautiful gardens, and they made me gluten free as requested. Our room was Thomas Ward Room 135, would recommend it on first floor of main house. Just up sweeping staircase with historic artwork on every wall. There is also a spa with poo, hot tub and treatments. Dinner in the restaurant was very good and then we sat by the roaring open fire in the hallway for coffee. Visited the town with lots of tourist attractions and had lovely rest. Would thoroughly recommend the hotel for a good break in Cotswolds!

I stayed at the Hotel on a Spa weekend- the price included a treatment, use of the spa facilities, overnight stay, breakfast and dinner. The Hotel is full of character- just exploring inside took a while! The lounge especially is both grand yet cosy. Our bedroom was more modern but a good size, clean and, best of all, with stunning views of the house and gardens. We did have a lovely walk outside and the grounds are beautiful. We ate in the stylish restaurant and the food was very good- excellent value for saying it was part of our package. The spa is fabulous- a pool, jacuzzis, stream room etc- we especially enjoyed the outdoor heated vitality pool on a brisk November day. Being in there when it was lit up in the dark and with the spots of rain on our face was so refreshing! The main pool is a very decent size and the whole spa is set out very well. Our treatments were good. We went into Stratford in the evening and it was about £7 in a taxi- although apparently there is a way to walk it in the day. We left feeling refreshed and we hope to return for a similar weekend soon.

I have eaten here before a couple of years ago and the food was excellent, as was the service. The Bar and lounge are lovely and in the summer you can walk into the grounds.Being invited to a Christmas party, I expected that the food would be good but was prepared to allow for the fact that meals are being served on mass to some 70 people. The room and tables were set out nicely and the pate starter was acceptable, however the dry Christmas Turkey, lonely colourless 'pig in a blanket' served with a few hard sprouts, some carrots and roast potatoes with a drizzle of gravy was a big let down and was more of a chore to eat than a celebration of the festive period. Shame as this reflects on the Hotel. I regularly eat meals at festive boards where the individual components stand up on their own and when combined make the whole meal a success, to get this wrong at an establishment of the size and with the resources it has is unacceptable and diminishes its reputation as somewhere to go for a treat, party or special occasion.I got the impression that the staff were just completing their tasks as quickly as possible to the detriment of good service. Cups and saucers were placed in front of everyone, and a lady came round quickly pouring coffee into each cup and I didn't have a chance to stop her as I cant have Caffeine which triggers migraine. No one bothered to ask me if I even wanted Tea or Coffee, and then they were gone again. For a Hotel in a fantastic building at a top location, with extensive grounds and views - it needs to ensure that its service and food is of a better standard otherwise it will be difficult to fill and keep vibrant and successful as a business. Given the choice I would not choose to go there again which is a real shame as it should be a treat!

No complaints regards room comfort, cleanliness and facilities. Excellent gardens and sitting on terrace was a joy. However the restaurant service was desperately slow and at dinner my starter was on the verge of being served burnt but after 45mins wait I tolerated it rather than reject. Buffet breakfast was plentiful but unfortunately sweated bacon and sausages lose much of their appeal. The cooked to order breakfast the next day was if anything worse. The bacon was hard the sausages burnt and cold and the soft eggs ordered were somewhat hard. I'm afraid that the restaurant claims of two rosette status leaves much to be desired compared with other hotels who make no such claims. Our previous hotel dinner and breakfast, in Stafford, were excellent so we do have a yardstick to make a fair judgement.

For the price we paid I would have expected better service. The lamb at £28 plus was beautiful but I had asked for it pink and it was not. No one came to pour the wine after the first glass and there was no spoon to serve the potatoes so we used our forks, little things like that should be seen when you are paying those sort of prices. All I can say is be careful if there are groups of corporate delegates staying you will be put to one side and made to wait for your food. We went for a two night stay, the first night was good, but the second was disgraceful. We had a booking for 8.15pm, there were two largest groups one that was booked in before us and one after, we noticed that they were asked to pre-order, we was not. We were seated and then was left for 15 to 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order, so you have guested it the largest group that was 15 minutes after us was served there starters before us. We spoke to the head waiter he was not interested, we got up and left. This totally ruined our weekend away, this was a special one for us as we were celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The duty manager came and spoke to us did not off any money back I had to tell him that I was not paying for the second nights stay, and told him that if I had not had a drink I would be leaving. My daughters and I decided to have an afternoon tea here on 30.04.14 (Mother's Day). What originally started as a comedy of errors in the serving of our slightly complicated order, was soon rectified by an outstanding 'room attendant' named Carolyn, who couldn't do enough for us. It was especially kind, as she was covering someone else's error ( a friendly foreign waitress, who alas, couldn't make sense of our order), This resulted in the food being brought, with no tea. The hotel sadly running out of smoked salmon, and food orders which arrived at odd intervals. I am convinced this wouldn't have happened if there hadn't been an original language barrier, as we had previously come twice for an afternoon tea which was beautifully served. For some very odd reason the hotel had that day decided to serve their scones with the cream and jam already on them. As we wanted them separate and make our own scones, this appeared to cause difficulty in above mentioned communication. We were seated in the bar area, which boasts magnificent views over the grounds and in the end our order was partially doubled up, the tea replenished again with a fresh hot pot, and in the end the scones arrived as they should, with cream and jam separate. The very professional Manager Victor came over to us to offer his personal apology for the errors made that day. My daughters and I really enjoyed the food; the tea was lovely and so were scones, sandwiches and cakes. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and when I went to the bar to settle our account, all monies were refused by the manager for the complications, delay and miscommunication in our order. It was very thoughtful and much appreciated. We will be sure to come back for another lovely afternoon tea or dinner. Thank you again, especially to Carolyn and Victor, you made our day extra special.

We (a group of 6 women) came to celebrate our friends significant birthday. We had booked well in advance and arrived to discover that we were not expected. We had to wait whilst the girl re-laid a table for us and told her why we were there and then waited again.... for ages! Eventually she took our order for drinks and teas and coffees duly arrived but then we waited another half an hour at least for the rest until we had to go and find someone to explain that when we said we were there for afternoon tea we did not literally mean "a cup of tea". Eventually the food arrived. It was honestly a joke. It looked as if they had gone out to the local supermarket and then cut in half a selection of 3 poor quality cakes we even had half a meringue! It was very embarrassing for us all. When we complained the person we spoke to said he would speak to the manager but at no time did we actually see the manager in person. We ended up paying half - £7.50 per head - but it really wasn't even worth that. When we said we would not be returning the person we spoke to could not have cared less - his attitude was dreadful. Very disappointing in deed. Do not come here for afternoon tea. There are plenty of far better places in Stratford. Please read my other reviews to know that I am generally not the moaning type!

My parents stayed at this hotel when they came to visit me and I met them there for some spa time and also dinner the same night. The location is just gorgeous, stunning gardens. My parents had an upgraded room which was lovely, spacious and nicely decorated. The spa is fabulous, one of the best I would say. My only annoyance with this place was this...when myself and the hubby went to meet my parents for dinner that night my hubby was told he could not go into the restaraunt in jeans, they were dark jeans with not rips or holes in it, anywhere else would not have even questioned it! So my hubby went home and changed into chinos, a bit frustrated (and a little embarrassed) but fair enough if that is the policy. We eventaully sat down for dinner and the food was gorgeous, no exceptions! The annoying thing was another guy then came into the restaraunt, sat down and he was wearing jeans, my blood boiled and I haven't been back since, my parents have been over a few times since then and they not stayed there either on principal despite them really liking the place! But snobbery and double standards are not endeering and that is how we felt about the place!

Went to the Welcombe Hotel for Sunday Lunch, The name says it all, Welcombe. From entering the Hotel on a cold and frosty sunday lunch time, greeted by members of staff who must be conditioned by the word Welcombe it was charming. The cocktail bar, the maitre d and waiting staff are superb. One member of the party is gluton intolerant but was exceedingly well provided for as was the rest of my party. The Lunch; attention to detail was superb. The starters, the main course, dessert were excellent (The Chef takes pride in his kitchen) No more to say,but I will be back very soon for another Sunday Welcombe

The course is nice and well maintained. Its got quite a bit of elevation so if you walk and play its a good day out.

We had our annual golf day at the Welcombe, the course held up well even through the rain. The lunch sandwiches were just adequate, so I was not looking forward to the evening meal. However they provided a reasonable buffet, with a good salmon buffet and a hot pasta dish, followed by apple pie and custard. My golf was rubbish!

My husband and I have just returned from a one night stay and we thought it was fantastic! The spa facilities and staff were wonderfull Far better than most hotels and spas we have visited. The dining room manager was so helpful and most polite and made us very welcome. The rooms were great and the view from our window very pretty (320) if however I had to say this hotel could improve would be to say that I have worked in a hotel and spa on reception for several years and they could have done with more staff, to answer the phone when dealing with a guest is very rude and it happened a lot ! Whilst checking in and out they should have a person in the back office answering all phone calls and dealing with other duties in most cases we only ever saw one person on reception and when it's busy it's very frustrating i feel it would be a better idea to have a checking in area and a seperate area close bye to check out in a very busy and small area of the hotel I feel that needs improving apart from that we will defiantly be returning !!!!!!

To be honest, I'm surprised to see a negative comment on this site concerning the quality of food and service at this hotel. Perhaps the reviewer had some bad luck.I've eaten at the Welcombe a few times over the past year or so, but only ever for Sunday lunch. I can categorically state that I have always found the service, the food and the meet and greet to be excellent. The restaurant is very formal in appearance, but it is not at all stuffy and the dress code is relaxed. The staff in the restaurant are genuinely superb. I have always found them impeccably dressed, attentive and very professional. It is my opinion that they clearly know what they're doing. The lunch itself is also very good and at £25 per head for three courses, given the size of portion and the quality, value for money in comparison to similar local establishments. They also serve several different home made breads with the meal, all of which are lovely. At the end of the day, I suppose it's down to the individual and their expectations. For me, the Welcombe Hotel for Sunday lunch, is a delight across the board.

Used to be a member for about 2 years. Really gorgeous Spa atmosphere, my only bugbear is that over the years, I noticed the showers getting a bit limescaly and they need a bit of a polish up. My only other moan would be that often either the steam room or the outside spa shower is out of order. Other than that, top class.

We have eaten here many times and generally stay at least twice a Year. It has changed hands/Management Teams several times over the past few years and some have performed better than others. Overall it is a pleasure to go here. The Restaurant is fairly formal but serves lovely food at very reasonable prices. More casual Bar Snacks can be enjoyed in the huge Lounge and Bar area. Very popular for Weddings and Functions and so can sometimes get very busy - at other times it is quiet enough for you to think that you have arrived at your very own Private Country House! Well worth a Trip.....truly lovely!

We went there for a special lunch over Christmas as was recomended by a friend to se the marvellous decorations. Well if you want splendid decortations this is not the place...go to Kilwoth House Hotel. On arrival no staff around to greet you...ages to get served. Very expensive poor quality food. The staff training manager needs sacking as the staff had no clue about service. I ordered a glass of chardonnay and was finally given something in a dirty glass that tasted nothing like...the bill at the end charged me £6.50 for what was a small glass of'pinot grigio!' My husband had beer which was stale and flat.To top it all the receptionist walked trough the place we were eating carrying her Sunday dinner and promptly sat down to eat it at the reception desk!

We stayed here and went to the restaurant to find it set for breakfast. On check out we discovered it had been closed for a year which caused issues as I’m type 1 diabetic! Shame also as the reviews were fantastic

A colleague from overseas and his wife were staying here on a few-days visit to UK. My wife and I joined them for dinner - and wow, we were so glad we did. The welcome from the staff, from the moment we walked in and throughout the evening was nothing short of wonderful. Friendly, professional and fun where appropriate. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent -- I would particularly recommend the Pigeon which I had as a starter - would have had it as main course if it had been an option. I suspect that if I'd asked, they would have accommodated that too - but there was plenty to choose from. All 4 of us enjoyed a great meal in a lovely space with a great view of the floodlit church in the grounds. Not cheap, but worth every penny - cannot recommend it highly enough and my wife and I are already planning to return soon.

Excellent in every way we were a group of friends all with dogs it’s a very dog friendly hotel. Mazine was the duty manager that weekend he was brilliant always there and happy to go that extra mile for the group. Fabulous food, clean spacious rooms and the staff are very friendly. I would highly recommend the hotel it’s in a great position friendly great food. I can’t understand why anyone could write a bad review if you want 5 star go to the Hilton or the Savoy
