Absolutely rubbish! I tried their special chip buttie coz of the recommendation on insta, seems it was just a paid marketing gimmick. Why the hell would you stuff chips in between plain dry bread!!! There wasn't even enough sauce in it, the bread was absolutely dry. Just plain dry bread! Why!! Difficult to swallow! Just chips with sauce would have been nice. Such a waste of time and calories!

The owner is by far the friendliest man you’ll meet :) I’ve been here only twice and yet it’s my new go to shop when visiting Leicester. Food was so yum!

Can't imagine how this filthy little takeaway is still in business , chancers, sold a Fela fel wrap without any salad and it was flat with tomato ketchup and mashed chicken peas and something like potato . Never will be returning there .

I’ve ordered takeaway from this place multiple times, and there’s always something wrong with the burgers. But today? Absolutely disgraceful. The burger I received was shocking – I can’t believe they even had the audacity to serve this to a paying customer. The lettuce looked wilted and borderline rotten, there were two minuscule onion pieces, and the sauce? It looked like it had been sitting there for days, congealed and unappetizing. It’s insulting that they think this is acceptable to send out. Whoever allowed this to leave the kitchen should be embarrassed. On top of that, they forgot my drink. Unbelievable. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back. This ruined my Saturday. Thanks😶

New owners are keeping with some of the original recipes. Better service than the original owners now.

Everytime I go they never disappoint me. One of the best quick food you can get in Melton road. The vegan donner and chips is to die for, tasty, freshly made. I always go for the chip butty on the side aswell which I can tell you is just how I like it. Kind and caring staff, Shivali, Bhav and Ashish really take care of me whenever I order 🥰. Thank you guys 🙌

My chip butties special was drenched in sauce like how much did you put in the whole tub of ketchup.When I tried to pick it up to eat it all fell out into a mess on my lap luckily something told me it wasn't going to go well so I put a few newspapers underneath before a took a bite.NOT PAYING £4.50 for a mess that even my 5year old son knows how to make.Very disappointed went hungry rest of my shift that day.

Very disappointing. Been going to this place for years, but today was the first time after the new ownership/management. Got a couple of chips dishes and a few jacket potatoes. The chips were literally burnt. Could see the burnt edges and taste the burn too. Completely dry and inedible. Not worth it now.

This pure vegetarian takeaway place

On a recent visit to Leicester and this place was highly recommended by a friend, as well as it's recent fame on a social media platform! We ordered the special chips! The shop itself is quite narrow so at busy times, could be a squeeze. You order at the till directly opposite the entrance and the man was very polite and efficient. We waited about 10 minutes and saw the workers in action preparing our order, as well as others. The special sauce was tangy and worked really well with the chips. The onions and cheese blended in to add a great combination. A great place to explore more for sure! Please note, this is takeaway only! No seating is available.

Lovely all potato based dishes. If only cheese was properly melted on our chips and it had proper kick to it as I found it not spicy enough, it would have been five stars.

Usually spuds are nice but today the potatoe was quite hard and stoggy in places didn't taste fresh at all I paid for extra cheese and still hardly had an cheese so not sure if I'm going to be re ordering based on the taste and quality today

This place is a go-to for anyone visiting Leicester. It’s for everyone! Whether you’re a child, adult, vegan, vegetarian, spicy food addict and even for those who can’t stand any heat! Before our long drive back to London, we thought we would pop in and take food away for the evening for when we got back. Despite us eating the food a few hours later, it still tasted fantastic! The ‘donor meat’ was of course vegan but it tasted sooooo good! The nice lady at the counter promised to pack it all nice so it would still be ‘fresh’ and she did a great job. It did not disappoint. We also ordered the Mexican burger for our journey back. Cannot wait to go back (this time eating it fresh out of the fryer)!

Ordered from uber eats plain chips with chilli sauce and few other items. Chips they mixed the sauce with all the chips and make it like chilli chips . How stupid can you be? If someone wants the chips covered in chilli sauce theb they would just get the chilli chips right? If someone getting plain chips and paying extra to add chilli sauce then just add on top or give in container separately instead of mixing it together. Veg burger and soya burger nothing special just frozen patty deep fried and one slice tomato onion and not even chopped lettuce.

Had metal and plastic in food; Just be careful, I ordered chips and donner from this place and the fourth bite had long string of metal wire which thankfully was caught between the teeth. Probably left from after they've cleaned using metal wire sponge. Second time I purchased chips and Donner, I took out blue plastic. Not going here again ever. Food tastes lovely but not risking my health over their cleaning issue.

The jacket potatoes here are absolutely delicious! They were big, fluffy inside and the skin was perfectly crispy. I highly recommend them. The reason for the 4 star instead of 5 is when I ordered it on Uber eats it was extremely disappointing. It was probably Uber’s fault but I didn’t enjoy it at all. However, every time I’ve been to the shop in person, the customer service was excellent, the food was amazing and it was reasonably priced compared to their competitors especially when you take into consideration the quality. Overall, would recommend!

Ordered a panini which is advertised at £3.50 on their board. In store I got charged £4.50 and 50p extra for cheese. I explained that the prices in store say £3.50 and I was told its wrong but the till is right. Actually they should be charging the advertised price. It would have been cheaper to order on their site for pick up ! Not an issue so much of money but not a great service.

since it has been taken over the level of service has depleted; also the prices have rocketed. Quantity of chips served has also gone down. previous owner was much better and looked after the customers well.

I am very disappointed to see the staff who work there and not own the business give very small portions!! This is the second time I have been served by the workers and the they have given kids sized portion. I have been going here for many years and if you get served by the business owners then they look after you and give you a proper portion, hopefully they can relay this to the workers, else will have to switch my chip shop!

The food was delivered Luke warm which was really disappointing. The portion sizes have gone much smaller and the order was wrong- instructions ignored. I will not be ordering from Hot potato shop again.

Ordered a bottle of Coke and got water, ordered chilli cheese bites and got some veggie bites and I asked for no sweetcorn on one of the chips but it still came with sweetcorn.

Fantastic food always enjoyed hot potato and chip butties since the late eighty's early 90s. Good old days when we were single and carefree. Tried this again in 2023, and its as good as ever, in fact better. Shame there is no seating in there.

Love the food here! So nice that there is such a wide choice of tasty options as it's all vegetarian 🤩 I enjoy spicy food and usually go for the v Jay special potato, had chips with chilli paneer this time and was also pleasingly spicy and very tasty. Generous portions too

When this place first started up again the food was really nice! But the next two deliveries I've had from there have been utter rubbish. I had chilli paneer and chips and the paneer was so burnt I literally couldnt eat it. I complained to Just Eat, but they said some of it was still edible so couldn't get my money back. Thought it might just be a one off so gave it another go. But I've just had the exact same issue. Inedible paneer and limp horrible chips. I ordered a salad box this time and I was so angry with what arrived. It cost me £6 and it was probably worth £1.50, if that. Absolute rip off. Would not recommend to anyone. Honestly, it's so disappointing when you spend so much and receive utter rubbish.

Amazing food and even better service used the app to order on Mother’s Day and obviously with the guys being busier than normal the food took a little longer the person in charge was incredibly apologetic and ever so nice even threw in a few drinks just as a way of good will. As for the food.. we ordered the jacket potato special (times 5) and seriously it was the best comfort food ever and of course all mum’s were pleased with their Mother’s Day treat.

Extremely friendly owners that cater for people that are fasting and have a separate fryer dedicated for farrar. Will be back to try other things they offer.

This place has legendary status on Belgrave Road but I'd not tried the food there since it changed hands (and menu, which for the first time catered specifically for vegans). My son and I had a meal deal each. Absolutely delicious. Chips remain in a league of their own and the burger and panini were fresh and generously portioned. Staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely make this a regular stopover when hungry. Only reason for deducting one star is that they charge 75p extra for vegan cheese, which in 2023 is unjustified given the ubiquity of plant-based ingredients.

So many options and always upgrading their menu. If you’re in Leicester give them a try, you won’t be disappointed! Thank you for our lovely food :)

Really nice, good quality potatoes, lots of variety, flavours are fab. Only downside is it would be good if they had a sit down area other than that lovely place.

I've always loved eating from hot potato shop!! Soo good to see alot of vegan options including cheese and soya mince, vegan donner etc! Just on the last order i made i asked for a vegan soy mince wrap with vegan mayo vegan cheese and salad but sadly when i received the order and got home there was no salad in the wrap. But mistakes happen and i called up and spoke to them. Overall it has always been good!

Our go-to stop off for a quick take away. Food is always great and freshly prepared. A wide range on the menu means it may take you longer to decide what you would like, than it will to eat it🤤. Would recommend Chilli Chips, Special Cip Butty & Paneer wrap/Panini

My new favourite!!! We tried the Vegan Doner Kebab & Special Chip Butty. Honestly, the food was so so nice. It tastes so much better than actual meat & so much healthier too!! Sauce and flavours were amazzzing! Travelled from Coventry & definitely worth it 😍 MUST TRY

The food at this place maybe ok. Not every dish is great but some amazing however since it has been taken over by new owners the service has dropped drastically and the sad part is it's not the staff whose service is bad it's the owners! Especially the guy who is always sat behind the till. No greeting customers properly n replying to questions with such poor attitude. Absolutely AWFUL. completely put off by ever going in again or recommending anyone. The previous owners were so humble even after successfully running it for so many years!

Hot Potato Shop is best Vegetarian Restaurant in Leicester. Located nearby to Belgrave Circle at Melton Road there are few things one must try when they are in Leicester. Their Special chips is one of the best you can’t find that same taste across the area. I have also tried their Special Chip Buttie which is so unique and tasteful that you cannot avoid it. Their Jacket Potatoes are best. This is one of the Best Hot Potato shop in Leicester. They have also introduced their new items like Wraps, Burgers, Panini and Special Vegan Donner series Whenever you are in Leicester don’t miss to have food from Hot Potato Shop.

We used this caterer for my sons party. Something other than pizza! What a great service! The kids love the cheesy chilps and wraps so did the adults! It went down really well. Everything was thought of by the owners including napkins, condiments. Delivered with care in insulated bags. Will definitely use them again!

Good luck to the new ones and I hope you guys do well but I have to say, if it aint broke, don’t fix it…. My order was good, but it’s just not the same taste. Can’t put my finger on it.
