I have to say I was so excited to try this spot, as I almost always support Gail’s, I thought let’s try and support a smaller spot, not a chain. Unfortunately It started with a wait while the cashier had a long chat to her friend, eventually her colleague who was right next to her decided to take my order, happy and excited I take my seat upstairs… only to watch and watch and watch while everyone chatted no coffee being made but everyone chatting away behind the till, I eventually query if my coffee will be coming at which point the barrister reluctantly makes it, he then promptly yells Flat White!!! One would think it would be brought up to me, I’m far from an entitled person but having worked in retail many years of my life, I’m well aware when customer service is unacceptable! So a resounding No to this place I’m afraid! My food arrived cold too.

I have stoped by this afternoon to pick up some desert. I did not have my credit card with me and to my shock my cash was turned down. It is card payment only, which is ridiculous and discriminatory - old people, kids, tourists, all those relying on cash these days are not welcomed here. For the kind of prices they charge they should not have a say in what is an acceptable form of payment. Moreover, the staff had the guts to lecture me that this done for "safety reasons". Seriously?? Never again.

We were looking for a place for a light lunch where we could sit outside as a Covid precaution and Melrose and Morgan seemed to fit the bill. The interior of the establishment was rather impressive and quite trendy with 'home made' food offerings and an artisan atmosphere. The staff were helpful and took time to deal with my wife's food allergies which was positive. Externally the tables and chairs might have been smarter. Unfortunately it was the catering that let the place down. I ordered sourdough toast that arrived overly toasted and had the consistency of a biscuit. My wife's bagel was, ironically rather underdone and her coffee was no more than average. The fare is not cheap so the experience was a little disappointing.

Would have been good if they had a system to ensure people got the food they ordered. They weren’t even busy but the person who ordered after us got our order. We then got the people who ordered after us’s order who then wondered where the hell there order was. That was despite me checking with the front of house staff when our food hadn’t arrived and being assured that our order was coming and then another waiting confirming the original order. What a debacle! And when the food arrived it was very average. We gave up in the end and ate what we haven’t even ordered. Suggest tear the system between front of house and the kitchen needs sorting out.

I came here for lunch on a weekday with a friend. We both ordered the same 4 salads on a small plate. The portions were inconsistent - one being being about 35% smaller than the other. The salads were loaded with varying forms of onion, namely red in one, loads of spring onion in another and possibly leak and white onions too. The result was a pungent taste on the palate and 'onion breath' for the rest of the day (not desirable by anyone's standards)! Clearly the kitchen has something to learn about balance and moderation. Despite being reasonable, we couldn't say any of the salads were delicious in any way. This was a shame because the place has potential.

Visited for an early lunch on a weekend. Asked about the soup of the day and the lady replied quite abruptly that the hot food started in a couple of weeks time. So, I ordered a tart with various salads that were on display. After I had finished my meal, I saw that soup was served to another customer. I was a bit baffled. Portion sizes appeared inconsistent. The cafe is well presented and food is displayed nicely. The seating area is small and up a small flight of stairs. Providing a pleasant and adequate service is an important part of the customer experience, which was sadly lacking on this occasion. Areas for improvement: 1. (further) training for all staff in customer service and to “listen” to their customers. 2. Improving food portion sizes (salads)

First trip up to Primrose Hill primarily to go to the Primrose bakery. We noticed this charming looking deli. All staff, and I mean all of them, we're charmless, sullen, unhelpful and completely indifferent to their customers. None of the items like crab cakes and chicken fingers could be warmed up. The green slaw was laden with mayonnaise. When I asked for some lemon or vinegar to cut the mayo, they didn't have any....really? I asked one of the women behind the counter if she could give me a few wedges of lime. Without cracking any smile and acting as if I was inconveniencing her, she marched into the kitchen and got one quarter of a piece of lime, which she dropped on the floor and then gave to me with her bare hands. The crab cake was truly tasteless, the chicken nuggets tough. I have never come across such a collective 'I don't care attitude' anywhere.

Having written a wonderful review of Melrose and Morgan some time ago, I must sadly revise it. The outfit expanded into Hampstead and enlarged their HQ in Primrose Hill. They were trying to bring out a cookbook too. But they took their eye off the ball--great fresh food. They used to have a tiny space full of energetic young cooks preparing wonderful, original salads and other The likes of Jon Snow (Channel 4 news anchor) would stop by for a take away. Now the range of salads is greatly diminished, and many looked tired and sad. The morale of the staff seems low; service is dozy and disappointing. The old stools and ledges on which we perched to eat in the old days seem comfortable compared to the miserably uncomfortable new arrangement of low tables and hard chairs. You wouldn't care if the food quality had remained the same--but it is dismal. At 1pm recently on a damp London day, they had already run out of the lunch-time special soup. RIP Melrose and Morgan! Those seeking fresh, wonderful salads should find their ways to Ottolenghi's various outlets. Melrose and Morgan is over.

I went to this Café` with my friend Katie on the same day that we went for the ice cream at Oddono nearby and let me tell you that out of the two, this was by far the most appalling experience. The place is very rustic/chic as you would expect in a place like Hampstead. I don’t know about the food but the espresso I had and the macchiato that Katie had were revolting. My espresso needed several teaspoons of sugar and it still tasted quite burnt. To make matters worse it was served lukewarm/cold. Katie had a similar experience, actually worse because unlike me, she is a purist and drinks coffee without sugar. That is the way it should be, when the coffee is nice. I have no idea what kind of torture her taste buds were submitted to but at the end she only drank half of it, so brave. Later she told me that this was the first time that she has gone to a café and didn’t drink the whole cup of coffee. I’ll let your imagination run wild as to why! The cost was £5 for both of them. If they had given me the £5 to drink their coffee, I would have declined the offer. To paraphrase a well known food critic Egon Ronay (unfortunately not with us anymore), while he was in a restaurant tasting the food, when asked how it was, he said “I would hesitate to give it to my dog” assuming that the dog drinks coffee. I also found out on thei website that they use Red Brick Espresso blend which interestingly enough I have had the privilege to taste it in another place called Melograno Alimentari, a deli/café in Notting Hill and believe you me it was a completely different experience. What is the matter with all this posh places ? They spend a fortune on decor and when it comes to the nitty gritty, in this case coffee, which I believe is the main reason people go to them !,,,,,, they fail miserably. Don’t worry you must have even overtaken Starbucks in the awful coffee league! Be proud!

A place with such a bad service that it doesn't even deserve one star. Besides, they sell coffee more expensive than other places, but on the other hand, they try to sell a badly made coffee almost by a force. When you object, they say the problem is with the customer. Although my home is far from this place, I came here today just to have a good coffee as I love the taste of coffee in this place. But when I saw their sarcastic and bad behavior today, I regret that I came. Although I specifically stated when placing my latte order, I "I want it extra hot and without foam". The lady who makes the coffee, she made it opposite what I've asked. When I said I didn't want it that way, she said she was a bartender for 10 years. She also told me that the coffee "I drank every day" was something impossible to make. 🤔 And she laughed sarcastically. When I said why are you laughing, she said it's fun for her. Unbelievable ! It's true, they piss you off by not making the order you gave them and they make fun of it. I found this behavior really ugly. The only place I will never go to again... I just want to ask, If it's impossible, why are you taking this order? Besides, why would I ask you to do something impossible to make? You can be a bartender for 10 years, but you don't listen to the customer. You don't care what they want. As far as I can see, 10 years has created a self-conceit in you, not a good experience. Also, I bought the coffee which you said was impossible, from Black Sheep Coffee place a little further ahead, from a smiling bartender, and drank it. It's a pity really. I only condemn you for your behavior today. Because you ruined my day. You may not care about me by just reading one customer, but one customer equals ten customers. You lost ten customers today. Me and my friends whom I have recommended and sent before. Of course, if a situation is your concern!!!

A very welcome lunch stop. We were thoroughly enjoying a walk in the Olympic Park, but feeling peckish. OK it was lunchtime, but I fancied the breakfast in a box. Which was warmed up for me. Back home (150 miles to the north), it would not have rated very highly. But in London I wanted something not vegetarian, and it rang my bell. There was the bacon, tasty sausage, beans, tomatoes, something potatoey, what was once egg and some green stuff (?) But it was warm enough, tasty, filling, and actually I quite enjoyed it. As, and when, we return for another walk I would probably choose it again. Incidentally the staff we friendly and helpful. The place was clean and tidy.
