Arriving on a dark damp evening I entered a beautiful welcoming hallway. I loved the cosy public rooms with roaring fires and an honesty bar. I was quickly relaxing in a squishy sofa with my book and a glass of wine. The bedroom was stylishly furnished and the bed super comfortable The cooked breakfast was superb and set me up for my hike up Snowdon

Meifod Country House is perfectly positioned for Caernarfon, Anglesey, the mountains and the coast. It’s a lovely old building, extremely comfortable and the staff are delightful. The house is decorated to a high standard and the antique furniture is beautiful. Tripadvisor needs updating as there is no restaurant at Meifod House. The only food available is breakfast - standard help yourself continental and what looked like well cooked hot breakfast if requested (we didn’t have cooked breakfast). We only saw and met two staff during our stay, both of whom looked after us very well - nothing was too much trouble. Our bedroom (Brymer), overlooks the field to the side of the property. The bed is enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom is huge, with a double ended bath and shower attachment attached to the taps (no actual shower). Good big towels, high quality bed linen, and a fridge in the room. When we return to the area we will stay here again. I recommend it highly.

We went at a quiet time of year but the service was outstanding! The breakfast was laid out in the morning with fresh fruits, yogurts, cereals and pastry’s. We then also got to order our own, in which they had ensured all diets were catered for. The bed was porabably my favorite part, it was very large and so comfy. We had the best night sleep. The location was lovely; we would love to revisit at a warmer time of year to enjoy the beer garden and beaches very close by.

First of I did not stay the night we only went for food as a family get together. One major plus was that it was the only place able to accommodate 100 of us at a fair price. We all had a set meal that was ordered few days in advance as we where a big group. Food came out in good time but that pretty much the only good things I have to say. Food wise I was expecting more as this hotel is a well known wedding venue in the area but the food was clearly bought in from the wholesale and warmed up it felt like the only thing that was prepared fresh was the potatoes. I would not go back there for a proper meal as it's not worth it

¡volveremos!

A truly awful lunch - the worst ever. Honestly we think everything was re-heated, the only edible bit was the meat. Rock hard yorkshire puddings and broccoli and yellow mashed potato and a weird yellow colored cauliflower cheese. Inedible. We offered to pay for the wine but didn't pay a thing in the end. A quick trip followed to the local Morrison.

My boyfriend and I decided to visit Wales for my birthday and booked into meifod for one night. We got one of the fancier rooms with a four poster bed and free standing bath. This hotel/b&b is beautiful throughout. The rooms decor was fabulous, downstairs there is a bar lounge area with extremely comfy sofas, a restaurant that serves amazingly tasteful food and another room which I can only describe as a games room. I can not recommend this stay enough, if I ever visit Wales again it will be here. Staff are friendly, the rooms are beautiful and comfy and food was delicious.

We booked a table at Meifod to celebrate my niece's graduation. The menu itself only offered one vegetarian option so we asked whether they could offer an alternative as some of the party were non meat eaters. They did come back to us with a few alternative choices. There were 7 adults and one child in the party, we ordered 6 soups for starters (leek and potato). The soup was so peppery that 2 of the group were unable to eat more than a few spoonful and the rest ate it but did not enjoy. We reported this to the waitress when she cleared our table. If the starter was bad the main meal itself was even worse. The veg lasagne was just tomato puree with a few pieces of onion and courgette thrown in, and 1 layer of pasta covered in cheese. The two in the group who chose this were just unable to eat more than a few mouthful. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress she told us that she would relay the message to the chef and said that we should have let her know sooner. We declined any offer of a dessert as the whole group bar one thought the food had been poor. When we got to paying, we were told that no charge would be made for the soup, but we were charged full price for the inedible main meals. Unfortunately, after a very enjoyable day we felt that what should have been a perfect ending to a perfect day was quite the opposite. On a positive note the venue itself is very pleasant and the waitress was helpful, but the quality of the food left much to be desired. We will not be going back any time soon!

For 35 people we had an afternoon tea for a 40th birthday at the Meifod. It was very acceptable to all of us, plenty of sandwiches, sausage rolls, bara brith(delish!), scones and loads of tea and coffee. Lovely staff who were very attentive to all our tables. There were a couple of other tables in for lunch at the same time but all went well i think.Lovely setting.Bar was expensive.

Family went here for Christmas day dinner, we paid £60 each and were expecting a fantastic meal for this price, however quantity was small, parts of the food was cold, and we realized we hadn`t had any parsnips after we had seen them on somebody's else`s plates when we had finished. the staff were friendly, the room and decoration was lovely, drinks were very expensive. We had the smallest table in the room between the three of us and everything was loaded on it, there was hardly any room for anything. it was nice to be able to sit through in the sitting area afterwards in front of the fire and there was no pressure to leave, which was nice

Came here for afternoon tea after seeing and advertisement on Facebook, two people for £10, it's down the road from us so we decided to try it. There was so much food for just two people that we couldn't finish it (not that it's a bad thing) and we were greeted so nicely, shown to an old fashioned room but still very nice where we were left to talk. No negatives at all.

We booked about six months in advance for our large christmas party at this venue. What a HUGE mistake. We had an absolutely terrible experience. Tightly packed onto a table that wasn't big enough, having to climb over chairs to get seated.Food was a shambles, very much like the review below, and we were told to pick the yorkshire puddings up with our hands!!DJ just played the same five songs on a loup throughout the whole meal so loud you were unable to speak.Surely dissinterested teenagers who were too inexperienced to give proper table service.I could go on and on for pages, but NEVER EVER EVER book a wedding or any type of event which requires them to cater for a large group of people. The worst experience I've ever had!Oh and when our company tried to complain (several emails and a letter until we got a responce) they told us that we were the only group who had a problem! (obviously not from reading the reviews below!) and indirectly denied everything we told them! and they had the audacity to offer us a discount on our next party as a "good will gesture". Why would we throw even more money at this hotel when we already feel cheated??Be warned - don't risk booking here - go to Seiont Manor up the road!

We had exactly the same experience as the review below. Owners cram people in till you can hardly move from your table. Food was plonked on your plate by teenagers. Avoid at all cost. Will not be returning.

Christmas party: Nice venue -everything else was extremely disappointing! We were a party of 20 packed into a room with around 180 others. Seated on narrow tables, chairs butted together like sardines in a tin. Music blasting so that it was impossible to have a conversation with anyone without shouting. Where do I begin describing to meal?! We were more or less 'frog marched' from the dinning hall through to an area where a parade of teenage school children were 'serving' the so called "carvery" which comprised of already sliced beef, ham & turkey. When I asked for a slice of each meat, I was told that I could only have two slices and, if I was still hungry after eating them, I could go back for the third slice! The plates were cold. The vegetables were tepid and had been over-cooked. Rubbery sliced carrots, pale green-yellow sprouts, blandcauliflower with topped red cheddar cheese grated which looked plastic! We were only allowed 2 tiny chipolata sausages in bacon, the yorkshire was soggy in the middle and, of course, one gravy fits all, made with what tasted like gravy granules mixed with water. The sweet was brought to the table by the teenage children. A choice of chocolate mouse, lemon tart, Christmas pudding or fruit salad served with what was described as "chantilly cream", which it was not! There was a choice of 4 red wines on the wine list, but only 1 available. The selection of soft drinks was pathetic. No bottled coke, tonic, Appletizer (or similar) & neither sparkling nor still water. Those who were driving or chose not to drink alcohol were limited to tap water or warm bottled orange J2O (jugs of water had to be requested for the tables). All in all a shambles!

Booked this restaurant for a birthday celebration meal during a recent holiday to North Wales. Enjoyed a lovely meal with excellent service. They even had my mother in law's favourite tipple - Dubonnet which I don't think I've ever seen available in a pub / restaurant before! Well worth trying for a special occasion.

Starters ok. Main course - 2 people rec'd main course with no vegetables. 10 minutes later the rest of the mains arrived with vegetables, by which time main course cold as served on cold plates. Filo pastry inedible, meat & fish overcooked. Mashed potatoes good but rest of vegetables very poor. The staff were pleasant but woefully understaffed. Drinks very expensive. Room cold & the canopy in the conservatory was full of dead flies! Sadly I will not be returning & I hate to give a negative review of a local hotel.

What a lovely establishment and staff. Ordered a BLT sandwich which I thought at the time was a little expensive, but I take that back it was a meal it’s self, freshly made on lovely fresh bread which it also included crisps and fresh side salad. So congratulations to all members of staff on excellent food and service. We’ll be back again I can assure you

As a weary UK road warrior, I’ve seen my share of budget hotels and pub grub, but this Premier Inn and its adjacent “restaurant” (a generous term) take the biscuit—a stale, overcooked one, mind you. Buckle up for a tale so absurd it’s almost performance art, but trust me, you don’t want a ticket. Picture this: I stroll into the pub for a pint and a bite, expecting a cozy evening. The place is quieter than a library at midnight, with empty tables galore, yet there’s a queue of four at the bar. One barperson, moving at the pace of a sloth on sedatives, serves with all the warmth of a January puddle. I order a single pint—simple, right? Apparently not. The small dark-haired female behind the bar treats my request like I’ve asked them to solve quantum physics. The pint arrives, though, and credit where it’s due: the glass was clean, and the beer didn’t taste like regret. Emboldened, I decide to brave the food menu. Enter stage left: a second staff member, described by others as “half-cast” (I’ll stick to saying she looked like she was mentally on Mars). This lady’s vibe screams “I’m here for the paycheck, not the pleasantries.” Rude, aloof, and with the charisma of a damp sock, she takes my order for a starter and main like I’m interrupting her existential crisis. I’m not expecting a red carpet, but a smile wouldn’t hurt, mate. The starter—nachos, a snip at £6.99—arrives on what I swear was a saucer from a child’s tea set. Dry yet soggy (a culinary paradox), they’re served with no cutlery, so I channel my inner caveman and scoop with my hands. Meanwhile, the pub’s running a £6 meal deal for a burger and chips. Nachos, you’ve been robbed. Forty minutes later—yes, *forty*—my main course, the “smothered platter,” stumbles in. The restaurant’s still half-empty, but the bar queue’s growing, with one heroic sloth-server now joined by two new faces who seem equally baffled by the concept of urgency. The platter itself? A tragic comedy. The “4oz” steak is smaller than a digestive biscuit and so overcooked it could double as a hockey puck. Medium rare? Maybe in a past life. The gammon’s passable, but the cheese is a greasy, rubbery affront to dairy. Onion rings are hard enough to double as coasters, and the chips—oh, the chips—are a chaotic mix of raw and cremated. There’s a lot of food, but quantity doesn’t equal quality. It’s like they tried to smother my enthusiasm instead of the platter. Now, let’s talk service—or the lack thereof. Tables around me are a cutlery-free zone. No forks, no knives, no napkins. Diners are begging for utensils like they’re auditioning for Oliver Twist. The waitress, bless her, mumbles, “Oh, haven’t they put them out? Sorry,” before vanishing faster than my appetite. My table’s no exception—dirty, uncleared, and utensil-less. I flag down a server for a fork and napkin, feeling like I’m negotiating a UN treaty. In the 2.5 hours I’m there, not a single table is cleaned. It’s like the staff are staging a protest against hygiene. The Premier Inn itself? Same vibe, different stage. Checking in feels like crashing a private gossip session. The bloke and two women at reception barely acknowledge me, exuding all the warmth of a broken radiator. Awkward doesn’t cover it—I’m pretty sure my arrival ruined their chat. The hotel and pub are littered with signs begging for Google reviews, so here’s mine: a standing ovation for incompetence. If you’re a local looking for a cheap pint and a laugh, maybe this place has charm. But for anyone else? Run. I’m dreading breakfast and already plotting my escape to the Porthmadog Premier Inn, where the staff are friendly, the food’s edible, and the tables are—gasp—clean. This place? It’s a sitcom where the joke’s on you. Save your sanity and book elsewhere.
