Megan's at the old Bell (St Albans) in St Albans

We loved our first time at Megan's, food ,service and atmosphere. Will come again.

I waited one hour and didn’t get good me and my family were starving,then when we got our food it was cold and the tables were sticky

I hosted my leaving work do at Megan’s St Albans (08/02). There was a good turn out of people who came! The evening was a brilliant success. My guests loved their food, the staff were attentive (especially Nora). The general manager of this branch was very accommodating and he really made the effort to ensure everything ran smoothly. He did mend quite a big hiccup which the sales manager made prior to my party. I cannot thank the team enough at St Albans Megans. 🫶🏻🧿🍀

Harvey's welcome was super generous: he took my order and brought me a delicious Ginger Spritz prepared for me by Annabelle. Emil and Pawel's Za'tar tendersteam, cooked just right and with the delicious flavour, are mouth-watering. The attention of the manager, the tall lady with the very elegant Blaizer, should not be underestimated. She kept an eye on me from the moment I entered for the entire duration of my stay; although busy giving the same attention to the rest of the restaurant, how she does it? Thank you Megan's and to the people who made the atmosphere less cloudy than the weather outside! Once again Thank you beautiful warm lady.

Interesting Turkish cuisine. Pop in for a drink, coffees, and a meal. Very nice place. Good for socialising with friends.

Would not reccomend Good Points Tasty Food Bad Points The Host who welcomed us in really didn't want to be there, and wouldn't even look at us, as she just plonked us down, threw menus at us and walked off, and we desperately tried to make eye contact with a server. Very expensive and definitely not value for money Not much in the way of variety on the menu Left hungry, with a massive bill Our server really didn't want to be there, and very short towards us, but soon cheered up as we were paying our bill, thinking a tip would come His/Her way Basically, it seems like a glorified McDonald's, where its all about how much money they can rake in. Such a shame, as I would not eat here again, or recommend this place

Great food, excellent service.

Overall average. The eggs in both of our shakshuka were pretty much hard boiled (I sent mine back on the basis I specially asked for runny when ordering - the waitress agreed they were overcooked). The coffee is average, the biscoff latte is great for biscoff lovers. The baklava bite was definitely not fresh. Overall I would say the food is pretty average and almost bland. The decor and ambiance is however stunning

We had some demanding friends and hound with us and the lovely waitress couldn't do kore for us.

We have never had a bad meal at Megan's and the food quality is always great. The menu has some classic and great different brunch items. The service has always been reasonably quick and friendly.

I ate breakfast here 2 times and it was excellent. A big Turkish breakfast for two is a meal that warms my heart. Until I have to go back to eat again. The staff provided very good service.

Megan's Brunch - really lovely meal, nice service, nice atmosphere

Food ok but nothing special. The beef/lamb burger was hard. The service was terrible. Waited 10 minutes to be given a table despite 4 different members of staff walking past a number of times and pretending they couldn’t see us waiting. Then had to wait a long time for someone to bring our bill. Would not go back even though it’s pretty and could be so much better.

Well this is a shame because I really liked the food, and the atmosphere was lovely until we experienced blatant racism from the member of staff who brought food to our table. I don't think I can ever go back to Megan's.

Poor service, over priced cocktails and one of the cocktails was just foam! Ordered a pint, waited 15 mins and left. Paid bill and pint hadn't even been put on our order! Other customers complaining while we were there. Wouldn't return.

Took a colleague for a nice lunch.

Lovely food but awful service. Slow and inattentive. Waitresses spent most of the evening chatting to other customers when we were waiting to have our plates cleared for 15 mins to pay and leave!

'Israeli tray' fairly recently added to the menu and seems provocative. We just left the restaurant and we will sadly not return to one of our regular ones.

Nice interior, other then that average food in small portions and over priced.

We had brunch here after looking at the menu online and whilst it was beautiful inside and made to feel welcome upon arriving, I was highly disappointed when it came to my meal. Mushrooms and spinach stone cold along with the toast and only 1 small veggie sausage which for the price I thought was crazy (sausage also cold!). We were asked how food was and when I said the waitress told me she’d inform the chef but no effort was made to change the meal or give a refund/ take the coffees off the bill. The total for two brunches and a few drinks came to more than an evening meal we’d had elsewhere the night before that was much better. I hope this place picks up because it would be a real shame as it’s stunning inside but not good value for money.

We were very disappointed with our meals over priced food and cold chicken the meze platters are very salty with limited meat. Shredded beef with strips of cold chicken I would personally put it up there with the worst meal I’ve had in a while. Better fries in McDonalds skinny very salty ones along with bad food the service took a while. With small portions platters at £40 is a ridiculous price. Staff seem very nice and apologetic however the kitchen needs a review. The only positive is the starters were reasonably tasty. Such a shame when out for a birthday meal and wanted to go somewhere different for a change. We often go out for meals and never experienced such unsatisfying food.

Very yummy food and great choice of food as well. Service is super nice. If you go on a weekend, it will be quite loud as there are normally a lot of guests. The reason to give 4 of 5 stars for food is just that portions could be a little bigger. But still very yummy food.

Stealing Palestinian cuisine and call it an Israeli tray is a shameful cultural atrocity

Awful place , went with 6 poeple and a dog, we initially went here cause he allowed dogs we walked into dogs barking and a very loud atmosphere but not in a good way. The place good do so much better we was ignored for a little while even though all the staff were chatting by the bar, finally ordered a drink it wasn’t very nice cheap and nasty cocktail, so we ordered starters they were ok just not much flavour, we ordered mains for one persons to arrive seperately he ate without us due to his allergy, we asked were rest of the food was so eventually are came out cold and it wasn’t the chicken kebab I was used to and deffenantley not posh kebab it was fall of salt and disgusting on top of that the menu need re wording as the mezzes served makes out the price is for two people nope it’s per person only realising when we got the bill. They did give us free drinks and take the meal off since I travelled to go there it was so awful :( the bill was still £170 with two people not having starters and then paying service charge and for tap water that did go to charity but that should be optional. Don’t bother going here

The food here is so nice, but the service really isn’t great, had to keep calling over the waitress and every time we ask for something it felt like it was a hassle, but the decor & atmosphere is lovely. Would be 5 stars if the service improved

The food was amazing, so tasty, I would recommend it for that alone. 4 star reflects that it was very cramped, you are really packed in.

Dog friendly, lots of seats. Can be hard to hear your guests sometimes due to music volume even at lunch time but would definitely go back. Nice decor.

Really good Eastern Mediterranean food and nice surroundings.

Went for an impromptu birthday late lunch and really enjoyed the food. The decor is lovely, we were sat in a little booth with fairy lights which was cute. Loved the options for cheese fondue and we went for the spicy one which was tasty, the bread that came with it was delicious. For mains we both had the lamb ‘posh kebab’ - so many amazing flavours and definitely looking forward to having it again next time! Baklava dessert was a nice way to finish, perfect size for sharing between 2 for just a light little sweet at the end.

Fun place, wouldn't go too late nor too early. In a mid day/early eve - perfection! Some of the younger staff should get basic training done though and not stare lifelessly at their phones.

This restaurant is a perfect place to bring your entire family! We were particularly impressed with the exceptionally friendly service. The modern Turkish breakfast, complete with a fresh selection of delightful cakes, was thoroughly enjoyable 🥰. I want to give a special thanks to Patricia, whose friendly and professional demeanor brought smiles to our faces. Highly recommended!

Don't except cash but otherwise a nice atmosphere

Having previously visited the Welwyn Garden City branch and been impressed we were hoping for great things here and we were not disappointed. Warm, friendly service and some great food from the Fondue starter to the Posh Open Lamb kebab. All very tasty in a very cosy environment, two very happy customers. Megan’s really do seem to have the right mix of great food, service and venues making for memorable visits with friends and family.

Sort of a gem in St Albans high street as front the name and exterior of the restaurant you would never think to be engulfed into the Mediterranean once you step inside. The interior decor is beautifully designed with Turkish blue eyes and fairy lights artfully dangling from the ceiling. The food was plated beautifully and they had a neighbour’s night deal going on when I went offering a three course meal for only £20! But their chicken in the open kebab was a bit bland and the rosé was deplorable, a jailable offence! The service was okay we had to take off our service charge as although the waitress was friendly she messed up our receipt repeatedly and overcharged us . However it was still a fun dinner with good company, I would recommend!

Lovely place with fab staff and big portions

Wow! This is the best brunch I've ever had! My family and I come from nz with a big cafe culture, so I think my expectations are fairly high and this place exceeded them. Everyone enjoyed their meal very much. Service was really quick. I had the avo on toast with an add on of poached eggs and fresh spinach. The whole meal was fresh, colourful and balanced. Perfect if you like to eat a balanced diet with balanced portions. Coffee was good. I could taste and see the crema. It had an inch of froth for a mocha. Tasted like a double which is standard where im from. It was lacking in latte art but possibly that's not the standard or expectation in the UK? The servers didn't appear happy. I hope they are treated well as I know how tough it can be working in the hospo industry. Thank you for your service! Everyone was working hard. I would definitely recommend this place and I would 100% come back again and again.

Best breakfast of my life. I can understand why they are highly recommended.

The Service was good, food is not very nice and portions are very small for the prices they charge. We paid £90 for breakfast for 3 people. Please see my slice of bread for reference regarding the portion size attached

I have been here a few times and always had a good experience. However this morning was truely terrible. Everything from the food to the service was questionable. The food was very disappointing. The pancakes were so dry and nothing like before. We asked for welldone eggs. That is not what we got. Infact the eggs were very runny and tasteless. No pepper. Salt. The water jug looked dirty. When it came to service, this was mixed. We had two lovely staff and one exceptionally rude one. She seemed rather irritated at what we were saying and when she delivered our water, it was as if we were bothering her piece. We asked her for the bill she just never brought it to us. Perhaps she forgot or didnt hear, but given how she had behaved earlier, I am inclined to think this was done on purpose. No one asked if the food tasted okay so qe never were able to give feedback. We had to ask another staff member who kindly provided the bill. Luckily when we declined to pay the service charge the second staff member kindly asked for feedback which we provided. This was really disappointing. The atmosphere is lovely though.

Went for a quick late lunch on Saturday and was very impressed, the surroundings and decor were lovely and well designed, the service was pleasant and fast without being rushed from when we entered. The food was very nice, well seasoned and generous portions. My only small issue was that there were some small bones in the open chicken kebab even after checking with the waitress who told us that there wouldn't be, this was a bit disappointing but it wouldn't put me off returning.

It’s a really nice place. My n’duja brioche bun was very dry and lacked a little flavour. But I’d go again and try something else on the menu!

I am posting here because I have received no response to my original Email. My husband and I visited Megan’s in St Albans on Wednesday evening along with our daughter and her boyfriend. We were celebrating our daughter’s birthday and had been very much looking forward to our first visit. On arrival we were impressed with the decor etc and we were seated promptly- the restaurant was fairly quiet with only a few other tables occupied. We were very quickly asked if we were ready to order some drinks. We asked for a couple of minutes as we had only just sat down. After ordering our drinks we were then asked 3 times within the space of less than 10 minutes, whether we were ready to order our food. We felt as though we were being rushed and not being given a chance to look at the menu properly. When the server brought our drinks over she leant across me to place my daughter’s drink on the table, spilling it on my hands and on the food menu that I was holding. She apologised and returned with more napkins. We were very impressed with the food when it arrived and we all enjoyed our meals. When the same server came to clear away, she again leant across the table and managed to drop a bowl which hit my daughter’s wrist and some of the food spattered my daughter’s white jeans and her jacket. To make matters worse the waitress didn’t apologise she just said “f*ck, f*ck”. We all just looked at each other in surprise as this is not the quality of service you expect when you go out for a meal. My husband and I didn’t want to make a fuss and ruin our daughter’s birthday meal so we didn’t say anything at the time but I think you should be made aware that the service we received was totally unprofessional and very disappointing - it ruined what should have been a lovely evening. I had also mentioned on the booking form that it was my daughter’s birthday but this wasn’t acknowledged at all. All in all a disappointing experience. The food was great but the staff were just going through the motions and not enjoying their work. It felt as though we were not valued as customers and we will not be returning as there are a number of great restaurants in St Albans which provide great food and most importantly professional and friendly service.

Nice quiet area at the front for a coffee or brunch

Food was delicious and it was great that we could take our dog, but the service was terrible! The restaurant was relatively empty (surprising on a Saturday night) and there were plenty of staff - but we had to get up from our table to ask them to take our order as we’d been there approx 20 mins, and then later on for the bill. The service change was on the bill but I asked them to remove, which I’ve never done before. The person taking payment seemed like she was in a management role, and didn’t even ask for any more details. Very disappointing as I’d been looking forward to trying Megan’s for a while.

They really needed at least two more staff. It took over an hour to get a cup of dark grey then I was presented with half a cup of hot water with a tea bag on the side. No pot, no sugar, no milk, no offer of lemon. The table was very sticky. I had to lay a napkin on top to stop my arm sticking. Not good. I would go again though. I may have just caught them on a bad day. The food was delicious

Had an excellent brunch at Megan's, we sat outside and they gave us treats for our dog. The food was lovely and drinks great too. Patricia was very friendly!

Fabulous food and great bottomless bubbles. The staff here were so attentive and had great personality. They were really generous with their time and service and made sure we were well looked after with the bottomless brunch. Would absolutely recommend and will be returning to sample some of their other menus.

Food is good but found hair in the cucumber mango drink. They did replace and provided the replacement drink on the house. Waited for additional pitta bread for 15mins to which they forgot to serve, the manager apologised and put it on the house I tried asking for the bill for 15 to 20 mins - but the man in the short completely ignored me whom was the original waiter who did not serve the pitta bread. Perhaps racial discrimination, I’m unsure but the other staff were very kind and helpful. I do recommend Megan’s as I’ve done my birthday private dinner there, but I wouldn’t recommend this branch, try the one in Fulham.

This place is great! It was buzzing even on a mid week night, the staff were attentive and the menu was varied! They had some excellent non alcoholic options as lots of us were driving, and all our Meals were delicious, I loved the calamari and chicken grill with fries and salad! But fun fact, this place is super dog friendly with dog beds and bowls for the table, so if you want to bring your furfriends then this place is very welcoming. Absolutely loved it. Will be going back 100% Park in one of my many car parks around the Maltings and walk over, no on site parking as it's middle of the street.

Ordered 2 of the cheese fondue both were curdled when asking a member of staff they said it should be stringy which is what we expected too after looking at other reviews on Google our fondue didnt look the same. What we received was more like it had been over microwaved with it being split with oil all on top also all 4 of us had stomach aches after the restaurant. Member of staff didn't provide a refund for these dishes as some had been eaten. The other food ordered was mediocre bar the shakshuka which was really enjoyable. The decor is really lovely though and drew us into the restaurant. All that would have helped on this occasion would have been not to have paid for the 2 bad dishes or to have had them replaced which other restaurants would normally have done.

Went with a group of ladies for breakfast it was booked way in advance, so i expected the service to be the same for as the other customers. However, we were a large group so that would definitely have its impact on service The food, especially the mushroom, was delicious and would be visiting again with a much smaller group next time. It is definitely one for recommendation

We had a delicious brunch at Megan's. It was a last minute decision to go out, and we were pleased that they could fit us in as it is very popular. Our food was delicious and the coffee was excellent. I would definitely recommend dining here and perhaps reserve a table in advance just in case.

Worst place I’ve been to in St Albans by far, Staff are beyond slow and unhelpful, had to flag someone down just to have my order taken, Food came out overcooked so sent it back and then had to wait a further 25 minutes to be remade. Will defiantly not be coming back and would not recommend anyone going here

This is our second time at Megan's and we love it. The decor is lovely, the food is delicious and the service great

Lovely surroundings and atmosphere.The staff were very friendly and the food arrived extremely quickly.I have to say that my wife and I were very disappointed at the very small portions we received.We were given extremely small eggs and a very sad portion of sourdough bread, hardly adequate for a small child , let alone an adult. In addition there was an extremely little piece of garnish, hardly noticeable.All in all ,the meal was very disappointing , a meal that if made at home would have cost way below your asking price, even taking into consideration your overheads, labour etc.
