Great authentic food, excellent service, clean surrounds. Take your on wine if wanted. Watch out for automatic service charge. Would recommend.

Rehman and his colleagues are always welcoming and, more than that, the food is excellent. We have been here a few times and will be back again in the next few weeks.

Staying in Newton Stewart for the night with my 2 teenage daughters. Decided to hit the the cinema then grab something to eat. Girls choice was to try the Indian restaraunt halfway up the main street. Met by an older lady in an arrival who showed us to put table. Not the largest of premises and tables were crammed in to provide more seating. Place didn't have a drinks licence so headed to the co-op for a couple of beers. Girls had orange juice and lemonade. Kitchen is to the back of the restaraunt, off the main dining area. Lots of conversation and laughing from the kitchen, however never seen anyone but this lady from when we entered. Ordered a pokies platter for one daughter and a popodom platter £695 each. Very small portions with minute bowls of dips. Main courses came in plain white saucers which took away the authentic Indian feel. Good was ok, as we were very hungry to had our fill. The bill came to £61, which I feel was overpriced for what we got. Restaraunt doesn't take card so had to go the bank further up the street. Feel this place is a shabby set up and I is the only Indian restaraunt in miles so they will get the custom. However, feel it a bit of a top off because of this. I had visited here over a month ago and have only written this review now due to my disappointment visiting this place. Would say this place is average.

India Gate by name, India Gate by nature! Wedding Anniversary - 9 years married. Alison is a lover of Curry Houses from Birmingham to Glasgow. After walking past India Gate which was once known as Meenas we were handed a menu by the owner. Prices appeared quite reasonable with some meal deals available. We returned a couple of hours later and were put front of house. The venue does not have a license and we were told we could only be offered soft drinks. No problem in that. However, it soon became evident that meals were a good 30% more than the Takeaway menu. I guess the food must be good…. Our food arrived really quickly, only slightly slower than a McDonalds restaurant order. A Chicken Jaipuri and a Prawn Karahi. The prawns appeared more than shrimps and the sauce was quite sweet and not hot and spicy , although all the chicken appeared ok. This was all served in nice white school dinner plates. Just behind us, the two members of staff hurriedly dealt with Takeaway orders which clearly were not going through. They appeared annoyed the customers were phoning them with queries. They suggested payments had gone to Meenas. They then engaged in conversation about how some people had waited nearly 2 hours for orders the previous weekend and it was a shame the customers were annoyed. On leaving the venue we were given a bill of nearly £60 for two waters, two curries, rice and naan. We had in fact been charged for three curries, with two of the them being prawn Jaipuris (not what had been ordered) In summary, the worst wedding anniversary meal of 9 years of marriage. Food and service abysmal and very over priced! Also you have to pay in cash!

I wanted a decent curry. I’m very choosy about what I eat, but I love lamb and the Garlic Lamb Masala stood out as the perfect takeaway for me. I added the fried rice to the order and was given a 15 minute timescale. The staff very kindly suggested the meal for one deal, which would have given me the same food and added vegetables for cheaper, however, I know I’d not be able to eat it all so stuck with my original order, but it was good of them to offer. I got back to my holiday flat and I am pleased - no ecstatic, to report that the meal was brilliant. An exceptional sauce, large dry, pink perfectly cooked lamb in huge chunks, with no waste or gristle, and frankly more than enough to satisfy my hungry bones. Thank you “India Gate” Highly recommended for sit in or take away.

Usually I oder online but I have noticed that the vegetable Biriani that I usually order states that it has meat in it now (even though all the other Birianis have meat in them and so does the most of their menu) so I phoned to put an order in for collection to clarify that. A male picked up saying `hello’ in a pretty rude voice. Not even `hello Meenas’. I said that I would like to put an order in for collection, I was told to stay on the phone, waited a bit, heard some laughter’s in the background then got hung up on. Didn’t receive a phone back. Clearly I was disturbing the guy I order from Meenas for my family on average once a month but never again. Food is extremely overpriced for what it is, and I have eaten in many many Indian restaurants in big cities. The Biriani sauce keeps changing from edible to extremely spicy, nothing is ever consistent. Had undercooked potatoes a few times. The worst thing? For anyone that has intolerances or allergies it’s impossible to order. I’m vegan and I’m intolerant to dairy and wheat - there is ZERO indications as to what is even vegetarian!! Never mind vegan or gluten free. Only restaurant I know that still doesn’t have this. Been inside once, with my family and children - very awkward, no music, very quiet and very empty. No atmosphere what so ever. They don’t give a crap about customers, it’s only profit and greed. Won’t ever be coming back.

As veterans of South Asian food from Karnataka to Bradford & Birmingham, these 5 stars are not given lightly. The veggie dishes are freshly cooked to perfection, not a menu afterthought. This is the only local Indian restaurant so its excellence is a blessing

We ordered a meal whilst staying in a local holiday accommodation. To say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement!! We eat a lot of Indian food and therefore can be quite particular about quality. The online ordering process was effortless and rare in the area. The quick delivery was wonderful and quicker than the estimated 45mims - arriving in under half an hour. The food itself was fresh, warm and very tasty. All dishes were accompanied by very fresh crispy salad and not the often limp salad offering that is sent in a home delivery. The whole experience was great - our only downfall was our usual ordering far too much! We will definitely use again when in the area

And take it away they should. Lamb Dopiaza was so salty we couldn't eat it. Lamb Kashmiri tasted more like a Korma. Dips, absolutely no idea what they were meant to be. Don't think we'll be ordering again Arrived cold well beyond the stated time.

We were on Holiday at the end of October and, having tried Meenas before we ordered for delivery. We placed the order just before 7.30pm, After 9pm, and no sign of the order arriving we called. It appeared, during the call, that they had not started to prepare to order. Given that the order may now arrive well after 10pm we asked them to cancel. They agreed to do so and promised a refund. Despite a number of emails and call the refund has never appeared. We have now contacted Trading Standards for support. It's a real shame because the food was okay when we used Meena's on other occassions

When this was Meenas the food was exceptional. Now its India Gate and the food is mediocre. One dimensional spices, cheap vegetables, and service not so good either. What a pity, this was such a great place.

The food is amazing, super tasty & fresh! The service is fantastic, all the staff are polite & friendly. Love all the little touches from the cucumber in the water to the cloth serviettes. Might sound silly but these little touches make a huge difference to us! Already recommended this restaurant to friends & colleagues.

Half my order was missing and I've been completely ignored. It's a shame because reading the old positive review clearly show that the place has gone down hill massively. The only positive think I can say was the naan bread was nice and the delivery guy was pleasant. What little food I did receive was totally inedible and went in the bin it takes a lot for me to throw food away.

Booked table when arrived got told no alcohol have to go to coop should've told us this o booking .waited ages for order getting taken as staff more interested in people coming in for takeaways

This is the 4th time I have been and I have found that the standard of service and the quality, presentation of the food is outstanding and has been outstanding on all my visits the serving staff and kitchen staff are very friendly. Being a chef manager myself I am very critical and I like to talk to the chef personally and thank him. Also I can see that the team in the kitchen is a team to be proud of it is well run and very clean and organised.

Imagine you go away for a weekend and your teenage son plans to cook his girlfriend a romantic curry using the contents of your fridge, freezer and storecupboard,(an old packet of garlic butter,ketchup and mayonaise, Savers mango chutney etc) and the recipe directions on the back of the jar of pataks curry sauce. You get the idea?That was the standard.I live in a small country town too and the restaurant there is a hundred times better than this. The lads were well meaning and judging by their accents were Indian through and through however their food wasn't. I ate a third of the meal and binned the doggy bag. I normally would never write a bad review but the next morning 3 of us, including my young daughter were ill with sickness and diorreah.

Turned up at Meena's on a Monday evening, possibly around 9.30am. Everywhere else in town had closed doors for dining at this time. Not Meena's. Had delicious food and as the restauarnt did not servce alcohol, we were allowed to go out to the local shop to buy a bottle of wine. This was uncorked for free. Meena's should charge a small fee for this really.. The waiter was very patient with us while we ordered and polite throughout. A little gem of a place!

The restaurant opens quite early, which is nice when you're hungry. We enjoyed our meal, it tasted well and the plates were quite big. Delicious naan.

Turned up without booking a table on a Saturday night and were welcomed immediately. The food was delicious, and the staff were lovely. Business was boombing expecially for takeaways and can see why.

In small towns like Newton Stewart, there is a danger that new restaurants will not survive long, so we were pleased to see that Meena's continues its presence on the high street and has maintained its standard for producing a good variety of well prepared of Indian food.

Called in here early evening to order our food. The half hour wait gave us chance to have a wander up and down the main street and explore. We had a 30 minute drive back to our apartment surounded by heavenly smells!

Meenas fine Indian cuisine have just taken over a restaurant in Stewarton, Ayrshire. I stay in Kilmarnock and recently noticed the name change when driving past this restaurant, so decided to give it a try.

Food not too bad but overpriced, service however was appalling. No pleasantries and short on manners. Spent more time on takeaways, two of which were wrong whilst we were there. Restaurant was virtually empty but still turned away a single man asking for a ' table for one'. A long wait from start to finish. We were served our main course before a table of two who were there before us and twice asked where their meal was. Glad we were only visitors as we won't be returning.

This restaurant has the best chicken pakora I have ever tasted. The next time I'm there, I will have to sample more of the menu.

I have to say that this was not the best experience for me. We ordered online after seeing the advert “enjoy flat 10% off on all online orders, for a limited time only”. Ordering was straightforward, but once the order had gone through, I noticed that the 10% had not been taken off. 10 minutes after I had ordered, I received a phone call in which I was told that the delivery cost was £8.00 (and not the £2.50 that had been advertised, and that I’d paid upon ordering). I was told that I’d need to pay the remainder at the door. I assumed that I must have simply missed this information, but when I went back to check on the website, there was absolutely no indication that the delivery charge was this expensive. Once the delivery arrived (over an hour after ordering), it was clear that the driver had nothing to do with any of this, and so I called back to query. I was informed that the 10% off deal had actually expired, and there was a problem with the system which meant the delivery cost charged was not the full amount.

Not the cheapest but one of the best Indian meals I've ever had. The Zalfrazi was spot on. Good staff and pleasant decor.

Took my wife (for her birthday) and mother. Arrived and were not lead to our table but just told it was round the corner! Service was slow but courteous. However my starter: onion bhaji was large and more like a dollop of onions, my wife start was not much better. The main courses: Chicken Goanese and Lamb Goanese, were hot but looked VERY unappetising. Suffice to say we won't be going back in a hurry

A group of us went for a birthday celebration first weekend of Feb. We found the restaurant to be very busy with diners and people coming and going to pick up takeaway meals. Despite this we were given friendly service and the menu was varied.

Went for our usual indian meal at Meena's on a quite Wednesday night while on our weeks holiday. Both our curries were very tasty. The only reason we didn't award 5 stars was the small dishes that accompanied the pompadoms. Not enough for the 4 pompadoms that we ordered. Bit on the pricey side but the food is very tasty.

We were on weekend break and looked around where to eat. This is the only place that is quite busy so we went in. My husband loves spicy food and he enjoyed his dinner. I ordered chicken dopiaza and quite disappointed as the chicken is so hard to chew. Otherwise, the food is okay.

I live in Newcastle where we have some excellent curries, and when I first visited this restaurant on the 22nd September, I was expecting it to be poor (lack of competition in the area often drives prices up and quality down). I was deeply surprised to find my Chicken Chetinand to be one of the tastiest curries I had ever eaten. After a full day of mountain biking and 6 pints of beer, you might think that I was just extremely hungry, so I went again on the 10th October and 27th October and I can confirm that they do excellent curry. The price is a little high, but the flavours are excellent.

Absolutely superb. One of the best meals I've had from any Indian in a very long time, good service, competitive prices and absolutely faultless food!

We decided to eat here on the recommendation of a local. The restaurant looks small from the outside but opens into a very nice dining room. The decor is very good with nicely laid tables. The service was excellent but the food was out of this world. It is very different to the usual run of the mill Indian meals I have come to expect. I had the special biryani and it was the finest biryani I have ever tasted. We all completely emptied our plates and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I would become a regular if it wasn’t a 5 hour drive from home. If you ever find yourself in the region of Newton Stewart I would urge you to give it a try.
