McKays Bar & Restaurant in Perth & Kinross

Good stop off on the main street through Pitlochry. Our room was just over the pub quiz but it didn’t go on too long. Good fish and chips from the chippy next door and haggis pakora was fun.

Nice hotel, but the description on the website does not inform that the hotel has a separate facility where the rooms are located, so you have to check in, get out of the building, walk 50 meters, enter another building and go up to the room by stairs without any help from the staff. The room was very small, with a even smaller window and a even smaller TV (wich I would call a pc monitor). The bathrrom was small and not very well designed, so you can not use the toilet and have the door open at the same time, wich is terrible considering the bathroom does not have a window. Confortable bed makes it better. The breakfeast is weak, with almost zero choices from the buffet; the kitchen made breakfeast, on the other hand, was really good. Overall, does not worth the money.

Quite nice place. Stopped for lunch only so cannot comment on the rooms. Service pretty good but was very slow to get the bill and had to search for someone.

Upgraded to a suite, large, comfortable, a real apartment, in the heart of the city. The room was ready at 2 p.m., there is free parking and an adjacent street with free parking as well. The breakfast is plentiful.

My wife and I began our honeymoon in Pitlochry and couldn't have picked a better place to stay than McKays. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the service courteous. The food at the restaurant for dinner was delicious, and both bartenders knew their stuff about the local beers and liquors. Especially important to us, the servers and kitchen were diligent taking my wife's serious food allergy into account. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Been in the pub/restaurant again after 8 years. Unfortunately it totally lost its charm from back then. I used to be a big fan of the messi whisky bar with the pricing, 0-10y x gbp, 10-20y z gbp etc. Despite the lost character the pricing was spot on touristic :-(

Superb stay ... I have stayed there numerous times and is always my go to hotel of choice , lovely room, spotlessly clean. Great breakfast . Dinner was great and staff were wonderful especially James . Food was superb and very well presented . Hope to stay there again soon

Great location right in the centre! Staff were really nice! Had a few drinks on thurs nice atmosphere asked the bar staff if there was any music on and was told a tribute act was on the friday. So we booked in for dinner and drinks to make sure we were there in plenty of time just for me to see a sign outside stating it was a ticketed event and happened to be sold out when enquiring so was gutted about that as we werent informed it was ticket only! Diner was lovely, big portions although a bit on pricer side. Our servers were great, very attentive

Food was very nice and staff were very welcoming and a good laugh also. I ordered the beef fajitas and I counted 6 bits of beef… that’s the only reason this isn’t a 5 star review. Maybe stay away from them. But apart from that the place is nice and food was good :)

We enjoyed our quick one night stay. We wished we would have know how awesome it would be and stayed there longer. We enjoyed that the restaurant decor was focused on golf, our purpose of our trip! Parking can be a bit tricky but it is doable!

McKay’s is on the center of High Street of Pitlochry. They have dog friendly rooms and tables in restaurant. We had quiet stay and the overflow parking is a 3min walk from hotel. Highly recommend for a convenient and comfortable stay in Pitlochry

Average bar with expensive food and drink. It feels a bit like a holiday camp bar. No pale ale. Lager was £6.50/pint and £3.95/half. Wt*! Food ok but way too pricey for the standard.

We enjoyed a lovely wkend in Pitlochry. We stayed at the Mckays hotel, a great hotel with a fantastic atmosphere. The room we stayed in was beautiful, great bed very comfy, a lovely big shower room with a very good hot shower. We had a lovely meal in the hotel restaurant on arrival and the 2nd night we had a fish supper from their own chippie next door, very good! Breakfast too was outstanding, help yourself to cereals, toast, juices and coffee and then a lovely cooked breakfast excellent! We had our dog with us and it is very dog friendly, she enjoyed a lovely treat every morning from the lovely waitress who served us and enjoyed being made a fuss of. Overall it was a great wkend with live music on both nights, would highly recommend.

Very clean, spacious room and bathroom with big walk un shower. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and good quality. 7_11 for breakfast. Lunch and evening meals also available. Next to all the nice local shops, a CoOp is not far, just around the corner. Bus stops on same road to go to House of Bruar and Blairs Castle. Some shops and little cafes open til later in evenings.

My wife and I booked for a 2 day break, the staff were very good and had our room ready even though we were early. The hotel is very clean and our room was perfect but I would advise asking the fitness and the age of your guests, our room was on the second floor and there is NO lift and lots of steps. The bed in our room was a wee bit uncomfortable and we were happy that we were staying only 2 night, the breakfasts were good and gave us a great start for the day. The food and drinks in the bar were very pricey but all the eating and drinking places in Pitlochry are over the top. Had a good time but will have to save up to go back again.

We arrived quite early and had no trouble getting a table. The staff were really friendly and service was quick. The food was amazing, the best steak pie I have had in a long time and the vegetables were fresh, varied and nicely prepared. The gammon steak my husband had was a proper gammon steak not reconstituted. On the expensive side but worth it.

Didn’t have a reservation but managed to get a table no problem. Staff very friendly. Food was amazing! My daughter is very fussy but throughly enjoyed her meal. Expensive for what it is but expected in Pitlochry. Would go back.

Yet another great night in McKay's. Quiz was good fun, but the service from the hotel staff was even better. A great night, that could not have been better. Staff in here know how to look after the customers

Beautiful hotel located in a beautiful little town called Pitlochry. The room is large and so is the bed. Very good bed. The bathroom is small and needs updating. The breakfast was great, the best of our stay in Scotland

Stayed last week great deal for £79 for 2 for 1 night .2 cocktails and a fantastic breakfast.We had dinner in the hotel with a extra 15 percent off of the bill.Room was l8cely and spotless

We had an overnight stay. Staff are so friendly and kind. The dinner we had was lovely. The cocktails were really tasty and breakfast was super tasty. This is our second time staying. We will definitely be back for a third stay in the future.

The perfect hotel in Pitlochry. Great live music, too.

Disappointed. Called in for a sandwich today and the young lady said we could change out our nachos that come with the sandwich for chips, as we are not keen on nachos. When the bill came we had been charged £3.95 each for a few chips. So felt mislead. I was also £50 for 2 sandwiches with chips and 2 beers with a diet coke, it turned into an expensive sandwich lunch.

Went in yesterday for a meal with my mum and the dogs. Bill seemed awful pricey for 2 mains, 1 wine and a soft drink at £57. My mum queried it the day after and she was told it was a service charge. Nothing mentioned about service charge at presentation of the bill. Neither of us are impressed and won't be returning. Also a £10 service charge is a bit steep for 2 people

Lovely hotel and a great pub, room had everything we need, very spacious and the bed was comfortable. Would definitely recommend for the price.

Prices are rather high. £66 for lunch and drinks for 2. Dinner was not great just as expensive.

Two back-to-back visits for dinner in March 2025. On both occasions the food was good wholesome pub grub, and the service was friendly and efficient. Plenty of choice on the menu, and a reasonable price. It's a fairly lively place with sports/music on the TV etc, but not overly loud. A minor discrepancy on the bill was sorted out quickly and with minimum fuss. We did look at other restaurants in Pitlochry on the second night, but in the end we were pleased we returned to McKays.

We were made very welcome by all the staff, the public spaces are well kept and nicely maintained. Our room was of a very high standard with ample storage and a good space. The ensuite was also well equipped and light and pleasant. Our evening meal was absolutely excellent, the menu was varied with choices for all, breakfast was of the same standard. The location is perfect for all the local amenities.

All the staff were amazing all very friendly and helpful the room was very comfortable and clean. The hotel is very dog friendly which was great. The food was great with a good selection on offer. Pitlochry is in a stunning picturesque village with dog friendly bars and shops with great walks around the Dam, Faskally Woods and the River Tummel.. We go back to McKays every year already looking at booking again.

Hotel is clean. Staff are absolutely great. Let down was the room. I only booked a single. Bed was tiny. Pillows brutal. The room furnishings were 1 chair. No bedside table. No mirror. Lighting poor. At 5am I was awoken by washing machines or something being activated below. It was £66. I'd have paid £30 Evening meal was ok. Expensive for what it was. Breakfast came without black pudding; weird! There are only about 10 parking spaces.

Revolting 10% surcharge. 4 x cocktails @ £9 each = £36 No McKays tries to rob you adding 10% to drinks! FFS! £39.60 Avoid the do this to all bills. Pouring customers a drink has a 10% service charge? Robbey. Aye right.

Stayed at this wonderful hotel in early February 2025. It is bang in the central of Pitlochrys main road which is Atholl road. Rooms were beautiful. Bed very comfy. Walk in shower and good sized bathroom. Breakfast was absolutely fabulous. We dined in the restaurant both nights we stayed and the food was excellent. Highly recommended. We will definately be back.

Loved this hotel everything was spotless and clean staff couldn't have been more helpful.the food ws excellent i had the tomahawk steak and it was cooked to perfection. We will be back in the near future.thank you mackays hotel

Clean room. Efficient and professional service.

Modern comfortable room but lacked a few basics that would have made our stay a bit more comfortable e.g. a mirror in the room and some storage / shelf space / towel hooks in the bathroom. Staff were fantastic and food was great. Good atmosphere in the pub and restaurant throughout and it’s great that the venue is dog-friendly.

Visited on a Saturday night- very busy but a lovely young guy served us- and was really friendly and polite given how busy he clearly was. We had booked but there was only one table left when we arrived and it was right next to the door so it was a bit chilly with people coming in and out. The food however was great- I had fish and chips, which I couldn’t finish, my husband had a chicken burger which he really enjoyed. There was live music on also from 9pm so all round it was a great place to visit in Pitlochery

Stayed here for the weekend. Absolutely terrible. No care what so ever for their guests. Just one big money making machine for food. Not even allowed to sit at a table for a drink as they are all reserved for walk ins off the street. We had to be moved rooms due to the noise from air-conditioning. Management couldn't care less about our experience despite paying over the odds for out stay. Terrible terrible. I will be sending an official complaint to the owner. I've travelled a lot in my years and this by far is the worst hotel experience ever. Go somewhere where u will be treated as a guest and not a pest.

Unfortunately my stay at the McKay’s hotel last weekend was awful. We paid a £100 to upgrade our room and we failed to see what we paid for. I believe having asked at reception it was for a 43” TV which just got in the way as the room was small and the TV stuck out from the wall. A rainforest shower which was good but I have nothing to compare it with I don’t know how much better it actually is compared with your normal shower and finally Luxury soap - the soap was lovely but again I don’t know what the standard rooms have and not knowing what your products were we brought our own anyway. We had 1 teaspoon between 2 and 1 chair to sit on when there are 2 guests, although because the room was small I don’t know where you would have put another chair and finally we had 4 coat hangers between 2 for 2 nights. The room was at the start of the corridor above the bar so was very noisy and also very hot so we had to open the window which also meant we had all the noice from outside. The worst outside noise was the staff emptying glass into the recycling late at night. We did feel this could have been done say when gusts are up and at breakfast for example to avoid keeping them awake at night. We also had a lot of noice from the bar and passing guests well into the early hours of the morning which meant we had very little sleep either night. I feel the superior rooms should be on a higher floor or certainly as far away for so much noice as possible.

Wonderful stay at the hotel .. room clean and fresh .. nice toiletries provided.. helpful friendly staff and very nice food served in a timely manner in the restaurant. A special mention to our lovely waitress Esme who was most pleasant and kind.

I had room 103...it was really nice and the views in the morning were amazing! I had dinner in the bar...chicken burger, and was fab! Staff in all areas were amazing and very friendly.

Had a lovely overnight stay in McKays Hotel, in Pitlochry from 3/02/2025 to 4/02/2025 The superior room was lovely, spacious and with the most comfortable bed. The shower was just amazing with beautifully smelling hand soap, shower gel etc, In fact we loved the toiletries so much that we bought some from the shop next door to take home with us! We had dinner in the restaurant that night. Food was very tasty and presented well. All the staff we came into contact with were very pleasant which always makes for a nice experience whilst away. McKays is a very warm and welcoming place to stay and I can honestly, without any reservations whatsoever recommend this first class hotel.

Back again for more cocktails this time tried French Martini absolutely brilliant - thank you Lauantau 😊

As always staff superb and can’t do enough.Dinner lovely and also drinks.Just a great atmosphere and the duo playing on Sat night ….fantastic music selection.Only downside was the old tired rooms at top of the hotel ….aware these are used for dog owners like ourselves however both absolutely Baltic.Not just dog friendly but polar bear friendly 😁.Next time will leave dogs at home and stay in one of the warm nicely decorated rooms.

One night stay, Hotel staff very welcoming on arrival, room was very well presented, clean and nicely decorated. Also dined in the restaurant in the evening. Great choice on Menu.Meal was lovely. Breakfast was nicely set up, part Buffet. All in all we were treated so well by the whole team who were very professional, so polite and well mannered, we will definately visit again.

This hotel is perfectly located in the main street in Pitlochry. Rooms are very clean and beds in the room very comfortable. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great. Happy to recommend. In fact booked again for next month

I am afraid our stay was not up to our expectations so here is our honest feedback which I hope you will find constructive. We booked a family room but on our arrival found we had been moved into a superior room despite emails from us saying we didn’t want a superior room. The gentleman on duty although very pleasant was out of his depth doing a role he was not familiar with however eventually he did get us into the room we had booked after showing him emails to prove our room booking. I would say the room was “tired” . We have several negative comments: 1. The bathroom had a loose support handle that was coming out of the wall. 2. The shower rail was fitted far to low so you had to bend down to get under the shower. 3. The shower was not very powerful. 4. The toilet had been squeezed into a gap that was incredibly small with almost no room between the toilet and the bath. 5. The hot water took several minutes to get hot. 6. It sounded like you could hear everytime someone flushed the toilet in the room above. 7. There was a gap between the mattress and the end of the bunk bed which meant the pillows kept falling down the gap during the night. 8. There was very limited seating, having more than one chair would have been nice. 9. We had to be issued with three sets of keys as they kept failing and we couldn’t get in. 10. The wifi was very poor and the wifi listed on the welcome sheet didn’t exist. 11. There was no anti slip mat in the bath which we found quite dangerous. On a positive note the room was warm and clean. We have had a response from the hotel saying the rooms were due for upgrade but no offers to encourage us to book again.

Had a great birthday weekend staying in the Atholl cottage, part of Mckays hotel. Lovely old house with plenty of room. Had lunch and drinks in the bar and all staff, food and drinks were fab.

Just stopped in for drinks Not a great bar atmosphere, definitely more set up for dining only. A few more comfortable chairs and small tables would be a good addition.

Dinner was amazing and excellent service from staff. We were in a more shabby room than what we saw online but we had a dog with us so understandable. Would definitely return.

Great location just off the A9. Surrounded by fantastic Scottish countryside and fabulous "tourist attractions" also great fish and chips next to the Mackays hotel. Don't miss out!

We had a brilliant stay. Fantastic value for money for stay and breakfast. We are our evening meal in the restaurant too and as always it was great. We visit Pitlochry a few times a year and always eat here but this is the first time we have stayed in the hotel. We will definitely be back and have already recommended x

Incredible hotel, very clean and very well maintained. The rooms facing the main street are beautiful and very cozy. The truth is that it is one of the most charming hotels I have ever been to.

I've eaten in the restaurant a few times but this was my first stay. Staff very friendly, room was cosy, beautifully decorated, clean and had lovely views. The food and cocktails were great! Will certainly recommend to friends and family.

We have just had a delightful stay at Mckays Hotel Pitlochry. We received a very friendly welcome and all staff were friendly and very helpful. We booked the suite which was beautifull very warm and cozy. Breakfast was good and plenty to choose from. We had dinner the three nights we stayed which was also good. First class service. The 2 boys and the young lady who worked the bar were very friendly and chatty. Also the lady who was on duty morning and night Mon,Tues,Wed was very helpful in directing us to different places. I can throughly recommend this hotel and we will definitely be back. Thankyou all at McKays Hotel.

Staff not so friendly, almost like it was imposition for us to check in and be there. Very odd. We loved the location and the food was good.

We got the winter warmer deal, the price was great. The hotel & room were spotless, the staff were professional, attentive & approachable. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Honestly can't fault McKays in Pitlochry. We booked in for the 2024 Hogmanay break with gala meal & it exceeded all our expectations. The Pitlochry New Year's street party is not to be missed, the atmosphere was amazing. The location of the hotel is perfect, as was the room, food & service. We were that impressed we booked for next year's celebrations before leaving. I think that proves how impressed we were . Highly recommend!!!

10/10. Food was amazing and can safely say the battered fish was the best I’ve ever had. Nothing left on mine or my partners plate by the end. The staff also went out their way to ensure my partners allergies were catered for. Brilliant all round

I often stay in Pitlochry for various events - chose McKays this time as it's location is ideal (being right in the heart of the town). Friendly staff, warm welcome in bar for drinks and tasty dinner, nice room, entertainment and a lovely breakfast. Definitely return.

Card only !!!!!!! A joke , food is ok no brilliant, staff are lovely , place is nice but after spending 100 quid on food and drinks they then embarrassed me.after it telling me it's card only and they won't accept my cash !! Fkn mortified as didn't cone out with any cards and only had cash with me,,, won't be back !!!

Christmas dinner was wow,came here for dinner with all colleagues and everything was so perfect,food was awesome and service was outstanding ❤️❤️ ❤️. Thank you so much guys for lot of wonderful memories 🫶

I am just rating the bar, it is cozy, good price value in my view. Delicious food... what else is there to say. Good place to go to, especially when just hopping by with a tour.

McKays is actually 2 restaurants - one side a seafood fast casual joint and the other a sit down, more upscale vibe. We opted for the seafood side based on menu and price and were not disappointed. Their fish and chips is not only super fresh but generously sized. Even the non-seafood items were delicious. I ordered the steak pie + mac and cheese and it was comfort food to the max! The steak pie (aka beef stew) was super flavorful and filling. The mac and cheese was better than most and did not disappoint. A heads up on bathroom - the seafood side doesn't offer toilets but you can go next door to the other McKays and they'll let you use theirs. Small technicality but then you get to see both sides of McKays and the 2 different restaurants.

Food delicious, lots of choice, staff very friendly, large selection of drinks. Solo Singer for entertainment, very good but far too loud, unable to speak!
