Disappointed that we had to leave a lovely bar /restaurant because of all the dogs in the place. My wife is unfortunately highly allergic to dogs and we counted 14 in at the point that we had to leave. Why can't people come for a drink or a meal without their pets? We went to the old mill instead and had a lovely time.

Booked dinner for 2 at McKays. It’s a combo bar , sports bar and Resturaunt with a fish and chips shop ( with tables and chairs) attached next door. Very busy but got a table by the window in the restaurant. Very nice. Football on the numerous tvs but no sound, so ok if you’re not into it. Good service , good choice on the menu , mostly Scottish fare and good quality. Also big choice of beer and wine if a bit expensive but average for Pitlochry.

Basic customer service and hygeine is sorely missing here. These pretenders are heavily reliant on their product to draw people and clearly they have an issue with basic manners, politeness, and especially with hygeine. The tables, salt shaker/ condiment bottles on the tables, the floor, windows and door handles are all sorely needing basic cleaning. The salt shaker on ALL tables, but especially on ours, was thick with built up dirt. If this is what its like on the tables we ate from - what is it like in the kitchen!? The fish did not seem to be fresh (frozen fillets) and it would be amazing to find out that it was actually haddock - sadly it appeared to be something else! I have visited once, I will not visit again. If you have another option for something to eat then I would recommend giving that a punt. If you dont have an option - I would recommend having chips only and not 'sitting in'. I raised my concerns regarding the cleanliness of the salt shaker (yeah, whats the point in listing it all out for them?) and they could not be less interested. The 'boss' behind the counter could not be less interested. Sadly, this is many peoples experience of Scottish fish and chips.

What a lovely surprise! Everything was spot on, from the food to the staff. I had the chicken satay and it was absolutely delicious! For dessert, the lemon tart was to die for. They had a quiz which made the evening even more pleasant. Massive shout out to the staff! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, what a great vibe. We had our dog with us and the staff was super nice to him as well. 100% the place to go to in Pitlochry!

We’ve stayed a good few times. It’s brilliant because it’s dog friendly AND the rooms are so nice and clean!! We’ve found when going away with the dog, you sometimes comprise on the comfort and cleanliness but not here! We were in 105 with our 6 month old baby and dog and it was perfect for storage space and size! As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted so nicely from multiple staff members. Shout out to Anna from Aberdeen who was so sweet to our rescue dog- you’ve got a friend for life lol! Breakfast was really nice- we both went for veggie option. Good to see oat milk on the buffet!! The drinks were lovely- I tried a couple mojitos on the second night! We will be back soon.

We went to eat here with our travel guide, the restaurant is very large so it takes a while to serve you. We ate salmon and mushrooms which was good, my partner ordered lamb which was a little tough, the place is very large and the staff seem tired of so many people coming in August. Pitlochry village is very pretty and has good shops.

We had 2 rooms, one in each building on either side of the street. The private parking lot was full, we had to pay for parking in town. Our room was so cramped that we could no longer move around if the bathroom door was open. And no elevator so after an interior labyrinth and 2 staircases, I hope that our room is not offered to people who have difficulty getting around. The other bedroom was spacious but the carpet and furniture needed to be refreshed. The bedding was correct. Breakfast was very good, regarding dinner, mixed results. Some dishes are fried although this is not specified. All were plentiful. The hotel is therefore well located, very central but not very convenient.

NO HOT WATER, NO WIFI … One of the worst places to stay in Scotland! We booked two rooms for June 2024 months in advance. When we arrived, we were surprised to be told that we had to stay at a house across the street from McKay’s. The house was musty and had a dreadful smell. The room was cold. The carpet was threadbare. We had no hot water in our room and no WiFi in either of the two rooms. It was an absolutely miserable experience. Because I believe in bringing concerns to management, I talked to the lady in reception about how awful our stay was. She said that she would reduced one of our bills by £30. A paltry sum considering what we had paid for the rooms but it was a gesture of goodwill that was appreciated. However, the discount was never given. I contacted them again by phone and by email but they refused to answer. Furthermore, I had reserved the rooms with one credit card and had later updated the reservation to change to a different card. Instead of charging the most recent credit card, they charged both cards! There are plenty of nice places to stay in Pitlochry - McKay’s is not one!

We decided to eat at the restaurant on a cold, wet, rainy evening in July and what a shame we did...We'd have been better off sirting in the rain with a bag of chips. Very overpriced food (£18 for a small bowl of chips with melted cheese). My wife ordered the haggis, neaps and tatties which, when it eventually arrived was way too salty and cold when it arrived. I ordered the haddock and while it was a fair size the batter was soggy and the chips were hard. Total cost including a couple of drinks, £130...very poor.

The hotel is spotless and the rooms are a good size, could do with a few pictures on the wall of Scottish scenery in the rooms but couldn't fault any part of them. Had breakfast and dinner. From a Scottish lass I love black pudding on my breakfast but that's a personal choice. The menus were varied and the food was great. The staff were extremely helpful even remembering what type of vodka I drank(maybe I had a few ;-) ). All in all a great stay and i would stay again.

Two fish and chips one steak in ale pie. I prefer any pastry to puff pastry! BUT, the steak and ale pot pie with a puff pastry lid was unbelievably great. On taking the lid off seeing the huge amount of steak and gravy, inverting the lid so the flakes could soak in gravy in order not to shatter was a good start. The amount of steak was massive. Each large steak piece was so tender to be falling apart, the flavour was as good as it gets. My fellow diners enjoyed their fish and chips. There was a good selection of beer, A great lunch.

There's a Scottish phrase, "a face like a skelpit erse". It's not very complimentary, but it's the best way to describe the member of staff who caused us NOT to have breakfast this morning at McKays Hotel in Pitlochry. The McKays website boasts: "We're passionate about serving you the best-tasting food in a FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE ALL DAY LONG." That could not be further from reality in our recent experience. Getting back to the face like a skelpit erse … We entered McKays this morning hoping to enjoy its full Scottish "Big McKays" breakfast. A few people were sitting around having breakfast or a coffee. In the first place, I caught the attention of a gentleman who appeared to be part of the management, and I asked if we could have breakfast as non-residents. His response: "No problem, Sir. Just take a seat, and your order will be taken." All good and well. A very courteous waiter quickly appeared, and I repeated to him that we were non-residents You probably know what's coming! But not yet. The waiter next offered us a choice of seats, gave us the public breakfast menu (there's a separate one for residents), and took our drinks order. Then, we sensed something was not quite right when we became aware of the friendly waiter being scolded by the staff member with a face like a skelpit erse. When she wasn't scolding the young man, she appeared to be taking issue with our presence. A few more minutes passed. Then, the waiter returned with an air of embarrassment and informed us he was not allowed to take our breakfast order. Apparently, non-residents are denied breakfast before 9 am. This was a surprise, given that we had entered the premises before 9 am (around 8:40), enquired about breakfast availability, ordered drinks, and made our selections from the menu. Despite expressing our incredulity, we were denied the breakfast service, leaving us feeling incredibly uncomfortable and embarrassed. Such poor customer service was wholly unnecessary, especially considering it was only minutes before the purported 9 am start time, a detail not communicated anywhere on the premises or online. As for the "Big McKays" full Scottish breakfast priced at £13.50 per person , we can only wonder about its quality. However, in place of this disappointing experience, we can confidently recommend enjoying a bacon and lorne sausage roll with coffee at Greggs for less than £5 each!

Have visited McKays for many years and always found the place a pleasant experience. Sat night I was shocked to hear bar staff tell a customer that they are a card only bar. The customer only had cash and had to ask a someone else to pay the bill because his drinks had been served. Surely this is only for the hotels convenience not the customer, I saw no sign saying card only. Not the best example of Scottish hospitality…..could do better.

I’ve been to a few awful restaurants in my life but this was one of the worst. Myself and my partner both had the “southern fried” chicken wrap which came with a small amount of shredded of lettuce, a couple tiny slithers of red onion and a severe lack of barbecue sauce. The chicken however was just a whole other story- It was rubbery, flavourless and the coating was soggy, unsure how this was, as again, there was barely any sauce. The meal was completely inedible, the only thing we ate was the plain tortilla wrap and left the chicken and the next to nothing vegetables on the side. The wrap was not advertised to come with fries so we had ordered a portion of fries to share, to then find out when it arrived that it already came with fries or so we thought- to later on find out we had been charged for 2 more extra fries that we had not asked for as the meals don’t come with fries, therefore charging us for 3 portions of fries at £4.50 each!! We also ordered a portion of halloumi fries which I was pretty excited about as they’re one of my favourites, however couldn’t even eat them as they were so dry and bland yet the bowl was covered in grease. Was told by a staff member they are bought in bulk and they just deep fry them. Charging £5.95 for 5 sad, tasteless, inedible halloumi fries is a complete rip off. We don’t usually complain as we understand things can happen, but due to the food being so shocking we had to made a complaint. We were told we would receive a discount however they had only offered to take off the 10% service charge which due to there being only 2 of us and a service charge not even being mandatory we were not happy as we would not have paid this anyway due to the food being absolutely abysmal. This “discount” was only £4 which wouldn’t even cover the 2 drinks, one of which had to be changed at the beginning because they didn’t have the juice I’d wanted. Overall, very very poor experience. Staff weren’t very great either, most of them standing around eating chewing gum- very unhygienic especially working in a hospitality industry. One of which who was very argumentative when we had initially complained. He accused us of eating the food which was evident that we had not which 2 other staff members had seen. Would rate this -100 stars but unfortunately that’s not an option. Wouldn’t even feed this food to my dog.

Stayed for 2 nights in March 2024 with our 2 dogs. Room was freezing the first night and no extra blankets. 2nd night it was far too hot ! Although we hadn’t touched the radiator. Room was clean and had 2 windows. Bed was very uncomfortable. One lamp in the room was flickering constantly and not safe to use. Food was good, tasty but pricey. Dogs are allowed in all areas of hotel which is great, but there is no extra space provided for them. With a little planning a little extra space for your dog beside your table would be helpful as not all sizes fit under a table.

Very few things I can say go 100% perfect, this weekend gateway was one of them ! Absolutely everything met and exceeded expectations... from the staff (reception, bar, restaurant), to the hotel room, installations and friendly atmosphere... I would recommend it to anyone and we are planning on coming back.

Lovely stay at this hotel. Made to feel welcome and was a good choice of food on the menu for dinner and breakfast. Reasonably prices compared to some others in the area. Will be back👌

Dogs are welcomed. Selling Homemade jams and chutneys. Lovely coffee and ginger cake. Highly recommend after a stroll around the parks.

Fantastic place with wonderful service. I went there on a cold November day and ordered the most delicious caramel apple crumble to take away and they threw in some custard in a separate container. Lovely staff and a lovely shop.

Location is great Environment is great Food is good Overall would come again! I got the BBQ panini. It’s a sweet sauce on pulled pork, with crisps and a side salad. I also got the apple toffee muffin and OH MY GOODNESS. It was so good! Must have molasses or treacle in it but was yummy

Just opened last Thursday so small teething problems but I'm sure it will be a great little bar as the staff were very attentive. The upstairs lounge looks great btw. Will visit again when back down.
