McGinty's Meal an' Ale in Aberdeen City

Very decent bar at the western end of Aberdeen's main shopping street. Friendly service, good food, good beer selection, live sports and clean. Even if there are even better pubs in terms of atmosphere, it's definitely a good choice!

Good range of beers including a couple from the local Fierce Brewery. Great place to watch sports.

Very disappointing and overpriced for what we got , the salmon seemed like it had been left in the grill for too long, it was dry and overcrispy and not much on the plate. haddock was also overfried and the batter was hard ,garden peas were cold. barman was pleasant and switched on but i wouldnt rush back just for an expensive pint.

Been a long time ago Disappointed this visit We had nachos just to share for a starter (almost everyone of them broken into small bits mac n cheese was fine but not difficult to make The big disappointment was the cleanliness of the place Toilets were filthy def not cleaned that day we were in about 1 30 The spiral stair is hanging with dust and skirting boards and floors upstairs are filthy Simply wont be back

Out for drinks and pub grub with friends. Thanks to Rosanna our waitress and bartender who was so friendly and knew the menu. Food was much more than pub grub - salt n pepper squid followed by the best chicken satay ever! Really nice atmosphere in pub. We will be back!

Was pleasantly surprised, went on a quiet Thursday, which might have helped, friendly, attentive staff, good food, good pint. Enjoyed it.

Got ID’d to have some lunch, I am age 24 but I was clearly not coming for a drink. Food only. Are the listening laws in Scotland not , any person under the age of 18 is allowed to be in the restaurant untill 8pm some places. But come on, it’s for food and it’s mid-day. Ridiculous.

It is closed till 4PM yet on google maps said open at 12PM did not know it was closed till i arrived there just after 12 waste of time please keep times updated on google maps

A very good pub with good food and drinks and sports coverage. There is a lot of authenticity here, I will go there again next time I visit Aberdeen.

The service from all staff last night (30 Sep.) was brilliant, but there’s one gent who I always seem to see when I’m in that deserves his own mention. Really friendly service and great craic from him.

Bar man was friendly, there were a couple of nice real ales on tap, food was a bit average tbh and the service a little abrupt.

Guided by our book travel, we have discovered that pub. It was awsome, beers and ciders were delicious, as well as food. A football match was broadcasted this evening, the atmosphere was very friendly and full of joy. The staff was perfect. Thx a lot!

I visited this place about 5 years ago, after the googling restaurants and pubs in Aberdeen. It looked nice on the pictures, so we booked a table. I remember being a bit disappointed. Now 5 years later, I wanted to give it another chance. It looks lice on pictures and it looks nice when you enter the restaurant, but it kind of stops there. "Meal and ale", it sounds good. But the menu is not that big and for some reason I thought it was more steak, beef and that kind of food on the menu. This time I ordered the steak and ale pie, it was not very good. It's not very much alike what I consider a steak pie. I also asked for a seating on the gallery, as I booked well in advance. But we ended up sitting near the main entrance, where people went by all the time. The nachos, as a starter was pretty good though. Also I expected a beer menu. When you are looking at the menu, you have no idea what beer to order. You have to ask. It's stressful. When someone names 10 beers in a row, I get confused, don't remember a thing and just say Guinness. Although, I would most likely go for something else. The staff was friendly and the waiting was within time. The place is ok, but not sure I would go again. I just wanted to like this place, because the place looks amazing, but sadly the experience is not.

Nice, busy bar with a good atmosphere. More welcoming and 'local' than many City Centre bars. The food is pretty good and the service is very efficient. There's a couple of cask beers on as well as a wide selection of other alcoholic drinks. There's room for groups as well as space for couples. Sports are shown but don't overwhelm the place. And it's not expensive here.

We had a great night listening to the band. The Funky Red Pandas. One of our party is a wheelchair user and the staff were so helpful from holding the door open to getting us the right table after trying a few. Completely accessible for wheelchair users which they should be credited for. We will definitely be back and try the food next time. Thanks to all the staff.

Heerlijk eten en zeer vriendelijk personeel. De steak Pie , Nacho's en Mac'nCheese waren voortreffelijk. Ook de sticky toffee puddig was heerlijk.

Nice pub with lovely atmosphere. Steak pie was lovely. Beer great had the innis and gunn highly recommended.

We went here for dinner and both enjoyed our meals. I had the pig burger and chips, my wife had the chicken strips. Both meals were delicious however, could have been doing with a few more chips. Only thing that let it down were the tables which seemed to be unstable. Staff friendly and price reasonable.

We have always been big fans of McGinty’s and visited with our daughter on numerous occasions, however this most recent visit was very disappointing. Having checked online and never seen or been offered a kids menu, we always made sure the wee one ate beforehand and just provided snacks/iPad to keep her occupied whilst we ate. Aware that kids aren’t allowed in after 8, we booked a table early evening. The server took our order, and at the end asked if the wee one wanted anything, we simply replied… no thanks, she’s fine. Five minutes later, he returned, telling us we must order a meal for her or they would not be able to serve us. When I queried that this had never been an issue before the manager was sent over… I highlighted that we had not once offered a ‘kids menu’ or mentioned that a meal was necessary but the manager abruptly started that this was licensing law and half portions of main meals were what was required. Again I highlighted that this was not mentioned or stipulated anywhere but she snapped back by saying ‘I’m telling you!!!’ Having already placed an order, we reluctantly ordered a ‘half portion’ of macaroni of which she ate the garlic bread and nothing else. This doesn’t appear to be ‘the law’ as stipulated and instead something imposed (yet not advertised) by the premises! Absolutely nothing in place to welcome or accommodate kids so in the future, we will look elsewhere.

Came here not long ago and had a really lovely meal and drinks. The lady that served us was called Sam (according to the bill) but she made the experience an extremely pleasant one. Couldn't have did any more to accommodate us. Will definitely be back x

McGinty’s First Visit Aberdeen restaurant week 1730 19th January 2023 Great Steak Pie !!! Generous portion of meat. Plenty of delicious gravy, lots of tender chunks of beef steak with a puff pastry lid. Lovely crispy chips. Served with vegetables, carrots and peas. Loaded nachos, plenty of tortilla chips and generous with toppings. Chicken noodles with sweet chilli, very tasty and generous portions. Chocolate brownie was very nice. Ice cream too. Chocolate Cream profiteroles delicious. Good friendly service.

McGinty's is a great place for a simple meal with a nice glass of wine and friendly service.

First time visitors here, and we were impressed. It was very busy as there was a rugby game on, but we’d reserved a table so there were no issues. Enjoyed the food, noticed they sold 0.0 alcohol beers so something for the designated drivers too. Rather surprised during half time in the rugby as a piper came on and free sausage rolls were offered!

Lovely meal here early Friday evening. We were seated by the very courteous girl called Sarah. There were 4 of us and we were using Itison vouchers which entitled us to a main course each,and a beer or wine . £38 for the four of us. An extensive menu in which to choose from. We all decided on the Fish and Chips and my god we weren’t disappointed. Beautiful fresh fish in an incredible crisp batter, and a huge portion. Three glasses of white 175ml and a red were really nice too. The diner was quite quite to start with but soon filled up. A nice friendly atmosphere made us order another couple of bottles of vino. All in all fantastic service and great food. Happy days. Top marks to the staff .

Was out on a lads day out ,was in somewhere before but overcrowded so moved on to mcgintys , very friendly staff and because we were a party of 16 asked about table and was shown to one it was reserved but in 2 hours , the gentleman that showed us to the table took our drinks order did not catch his name but he was quite small and going bauld , when It was time to move there was a big enough table into te snugg , that's when a lovely lady took over our order her name was "Katie " and she looked after us above and beyond so she gets a special mention friendly ,helpful and very good with us having a great laugh with us . The drinks were flowing and the football was on so we stayed all the night till we left at 9:45pm Only a couple of things wrong wheres the WIFI no signal where ever you went surely nowadays with fibre and super fast broadband the bar needs to upgrade !!! And I feel sorry for all the staff as I know there Boss so very sorry for them

Service was absolutely fine. However the food here is NOT good. Got treated to a voucher from a lovely friend so feel awful even commenting, however the food was like a bad school dinner. Not worth a go.

Just popped in for few beers and dram nice clean good staff.

Visited for a few drinks last week. All on one level which is fabulous for a wheelchair user. Staff very helpful, showed me where the accessible toilets were and made sure there were no obstructions on the way. Staff sat us at a table, opened a tab for us and were very attentive. Live music was on and was very good. Would recommend this bar to anyone in a wheelchair. Drinks were good too!!!

Always a great place to meet friends for a drink and watch the football (complimentary pies for the big games - very nice, thank you!). Fine selection of beers and whiskies (probably other drinks too). Decent pub grub served here too. Good atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff.

Whilst stopping in at The Stag met a couple of lovely lassies who were just helping out - one of them - Sam, was very personable - and knowledgeable about Aberdeen and where to visit. Her regular gig was at McGintys - which we visited later. Her advice and friendliness was second to none! To to it off - she pours a damn fine pint and gin!!! Thanks Sam! You’re a ripper!!!

Really disappointing as we were looking forward to this after reading up about McGintys during the Restaurant Week , service was really slow on a quiet Sunday afternoon and after ordering from the sticky menus ( seriously folks clean your menus before giving them to customers ) when we got our food it was all rather bland ,I had the katsu chicken in a sub ie the not so local one and honestly it was nothing special, wife had the meaty one and again weve had better , shame as it was somewhere we had earmarked months ago.

Went 2weekends ago with wife and another couple who booked. We got to stay as long as we liked as they had some on shows even though it was Saturday night. Didn't have food but the Red Kite was on form and price's were reasonable according to my wife. Good atmosphere and efficient attentive staff. Clean toilets. Would go again.
