Friday 22nd of July and we were travelling along the M4 on our way from Devon to Holyhead to catch the ferry to Ireland. We stopped at Magor Service Station, for a pit stop and lunch, we decided to come here for our food. On arrival we not all that impressed with the general look of the Service Station it appeared to be a bit shabby, rundown and grotty. The downbeat feel carried forward to the inside and to here. We ordered our food via the App for collection on our arrival. People just stood around waiting for the food. Basically it consisted of a serving counter and a standing waiting area, not all that nice. Once our food was ready for collection we took it and went back to the car to eat it, did not want to stay here any longer. In fairness the burgers and coffees were good but the restaurant and service station could be classified as a bit of a dump.

This was my first trip to La Ribera and it was very enjoyable. Friendly staff, amazing food (I had the Brazilian chicken). Crisp, tasty beer and real Italian Gelato too. Food was great value for money and such a welcome change from the plastic pre-packed food served in so many pubs and bars these days.

Not a good experience. Had the chicken and bacon pie which was over-salted to such an extent that it was inedible. Vegetables to accompany the pie were overcooked and dripping in water in a way reminiscent of school dinners. Cherry bakewell cake was dry, pretty tasteless and VERY expensive at £4.50 a slice. Queuing at the food counter takes an excessively long time. Not impressed at all.
