Food average, but Tania the waitress was so lovely to everyone that she served a credit to McD. Manager needs to recognise her outstanding service

Don’t waste your time going here unless you don’t mind only getting half of your order. Ordered two meal deals from the drive through got home my double quarter pounder with cheese had shrunk to a double cheeseburger no fries included no bbq sauce either. This was after having to park up and wait. Food was also amazingly cold I only had a mile to travel so not as though I had far to go. This isn’t the first time this has happened either.

My trip to this restaurant was very good, I found staff to be friendly and polite my food was hot and place looked clean & tidy.

Erm, McDonald's feeling the pinch. Rationing fluids and potatoes. We paid for large meals, and we got half empty chip boxes and drinks that looked like they begrudged making them.

If I could give no stars I would - terrible. absolutely terrible! Food was cold. Milkshake was just foam with no ice cream or milk and tasteless. Chips stone cold. Ice cream was off. Staff unhelpful. They were more obsessed with pleasing the delivery orders. They weren't even understaffed as most were falling over each other doing very little. We all left feeling quite ill. Such a shame because it used to be a real treat for our family to go. Now the cost has gone up and standard/quality gone down.

Ordered fries, chicken mc sandwich and latte. Got ordinary cold coffee. Got it exchanged, but chips were just about warm. Couldn't be bothered to go back again. This is a regular occurrence. Need to get their act together.

We live just round corner from here so got a take away. The grand big Mac was cold but the chips and selects were hot.

Back of house manager, was the most rude of all.My daughter was extremely anxious I have video recording in my car of the back off house management. She was hanging out of the window telling me my accent was not clear. I had to drive all the way home to report the back of house management.

We visited recentlt for a quick eat in lunch, service was very good, they brought our meal to the table in a short time, staff were cleaning all the time which is why the place is spotless, we enjoyed our meal.

We don't really do McDonald's unless we get bribed by the grandchildren . Mainly because we are vegetarian and don't like fast food and rarely eat bread . We did try the one at the next exit of the A12 towards Ipswich a year or so ago and it was awful . One mouthful and binned ! Yesterday we had to collect something from a shop on this retail park and were desperate for a coffee so called in . The young lady who served us was so helpful and friendly so we decided to try the veggie wrap . It was quite nice and the fries were actually hot and not like cardboard . The coffee was excellent . When the staff are so happy and the premises so clean it makes a huge difference to the whole experience . Well done .

Never had any problems here. Quick service, restaurant tidy and the food is what you would expect to get at Mcdonalds.

Waited 20 mins for food. They told us to park up but when the food came out some was missing so I ended up having to go inside and wait even longer. I’d asked at the window for extra pickles with my meal, and those were forgotten. Unfortunately I didn’t discover this until I returned home. Worker was also very rude. Large girl with short brown hair. Looked like everyone’s most hated auntie. Irish I think. Overall, quite dissatisfied. Also was missing dips.

As always food great and excellent service. Restaurant is always spotlessly clean with staff constantly sweeping the floors.

We called in for a snack breakfast, what a mistake. We had to queue to order on screen, then a 10 minute wait for the completed order. I ordered a cheese/bacon wrap but without the cheese I have thrown better food away. The wrap was solid and when I opened it there were 2 TINY rashers of bacon most of the wrap was empty. I was going to go to the counter to complain, but the queue was so long I gave up. Never again.

McDonalds is not known for its haute cuisine but even they should be able to get an order correct. You would think that a bacon McMuffin should contain bacon but it must have escaped the staff that this was a key item. Mine arrived sans bacon. To be fair it was changed without fuss but so it should be. Also never have the latte. Although tastes nice it’s lukewarm/cold.

Where do I start with Jaw dropping shocking experience. I know it’s a McDonald’s so don’t expect the world but this is appalling.I ordered food for through the drive way for my wife and son who were in Colchester hospital after an operation my son had. I ordered I meal for my wife and meal which included 20 chicken nuggets to share for my son. When I got to the first window to pay young girl with glasses did not say hello or welcome or the repeat order just mumbled payment and offered me a card payment unit. Then no thank not a word so I waited for a receipt and waited, I then asked for the receipt and she said it’s at the 2nd window. I drove to 2nd window and collected the food and left. Once got to the hospital I realized the order was wrong. Charged me incorrectly. Drove back the 5 miles to bring the incorrect order back.Manager comes to the counter what wrong? I explain. No apologies for the mistake no sorry how far have you had to come back. No my fault as I did not order the dips for the chicken nuggets. Not the staffs fault for not asking if I wanted dips. Unbelievable!!! Then a refund of £4. Would not even cover the petrol. I was so outraged I said it is appalling service the manger still did not apologize!!! Just said I can’t refund your meal. I left in disbelief. McDonald’s sort out your staff training it shocking from point of order to dealing with a customer complaint. By the way the large chips was also half filled up. The manager said I was on fries tonight and they wouldn’t be like that!!! I am a liar to. You just could not make it up. Shameful

Quick service, staff polite and fairly clean. Plenty of parking. Food ok. Not much else you can say about it,it's the same as most mcdonalds. It does the job when your in need of something to eat quickly.

I agree with previous comments, McDonalds is not cheap anymore and to get cold burgers and chips which have sat in the trays for some time is just poor, and when you try to explain your food is cold, you get a cold shoulder.

This was the first chance to visit since its new refurbishment and extension. Was very busy so finding a seat was a bit hard at first, Ordering was quick and easy the service was a little slower then normal but that was due to the fact had ordered a veggie burger which is made to order.

Waited ten minutes for food whilst they prepared 10 other orders taken after mine. When staff member saw me looking at my watch they sarcastically said "Enjoy" as they flicked the tray towards me. Wont be going back there again worst Mcdonalds in area.

They never get the order right.. even though it comes up on the screen what you ordered, they still give you a bunch of crap !

We all ate here for lunch on Saturday 8th April after doing some shopping, there was my husband, son, myself, my sister and three nephews.

Great service and food, staff very friendly, and they had facepainting and balloon modeling on the day we went and it was free, Lovin It

A minutes drive off the A12 Motorway at West Colchester turnoff. The new restaurant is is very clean, bright and airy. Kids of all ages will love it. Parents will love the newly introduced table service. Still one of the best fast food outlets with affordable prices with a wide choice of traditional McD's favourites or healthy optoins. Very popular and open 24/7 (Takeaway only late at night).

Whilst shopping at Tollgate..decided to eat here..mainly because the kids love it..why I do not know..to me the food was rubbish..it is cheap..but not quality

Today was my second visit. On the first one my burgher and chips was warm and the food was replaced without fuss at my request. Today, my food was only slightly warmer but I ate it anyway. I won't be returning.

Food nice enough for a McDonald's - came out hot at least! Need to empty their bins more often though, and not a fan of having music on so loud while eating.

First visit since the refurbishment. Obviously really only caters for their main customers youngsters. Disabled parking only two spaces. Have to walk right round to the side of the building in order to get inside. I have a wheelchair but used to be able to exit our car and walk a short distance and get inside and sit down, Now have to have quite a long walk to get inside. Before anything dropped by messy toddlers was quickly cleaned up. Not today Friday November 2nd just left on the floor. Burger was not that hot chips were lovely. Would not go there again in a hurry, Service was much quicker before the makeover,

Instead of going in like normally do decided to sit and eat in the car as rather busy inside. I am disabled so husband went in and came out with two burgers wrapped in paper. Husband asked no box? no came the reply. Burgers not over warm and need them in a box when you are sitting eating in a car. Chips nice and warm. Husband had to go back as not been given any barbeque sauce for our burgers. And upon opening up the paper found the cheese in it looked like it had been sat on splurged all over the paper. Really staff need more watching as the one that served us was not up to the job. And they need clear name badges large ones so customers can clearly identify them. then perhaps they would take more care with how they treat customers and their food.

We often go here for a fast lunch, this McDonalds is always clean and the service is fast and efficient, parking is good and the food is good too.

Shopping up at Tollgate..mainly for the kids..so had to visit here as the kids love it..must say it was quite a good experience..real is value for money..and fast friendly service.

Whilst shopping at Tollgate..the kids wanted to eat here..I am not a burger lover..but had chicken select..have to say they were Ok..kids had burgers..which they loved..milk shake was delicious..good value for money.

Even though ultra busy (lunchtime) staff were friendly & helpful when we requested use of key for disabled toilet. Great cups of good tea there too

We decided today as we had little time so we used the drive through facility, the order was taken swiftly and then paid at the next window then collected our food and drink.

Called in mid-morning for a bite to eat while shopping and was pleasantly surprised. It was busy but was served quickly, food was hot and enjoyable. Everywhere looked clean. Staff were pleasant and efficient. One of the best Mcd's I have visited.

It is what it is. You know what your going to get when you stop at a McDonalds. Food is always consistent and it's instant food if your in a rush.

No puede quejarse de que el zumo de naranja (en una botella y siempre buena) o el café. Rápida parada en boxes y para nuestro próximo cliente.

Pasó por escapar del calor y mostrara la suegra a las delicias de la Mcflurry. Ya que quería tener un ataque de epilepsia, dirigido a sentarse él y hablé con uno de los empleados sobre podría necesitar una primera adaptándose en lo que parece ser segundos Jamie estuvo con nosotros dispuestos a ayudar. Por suerte resultó en una ausencia en lugar de una manera que no era necesario, pero debe saber que él estaba allí si es necesario.

Siempre el trabajo para nosotros solemos pop aquí una vez al mes, rápido y un gran servicio. También tiene una recepción 24 horas y un montón de conducir a través del aparcamiento ya que junto con un parque comercial. Fantásticos desayunos :)

One of the best McDonalds I've been too. As a local I try to choose this restaurant over the other McDonald's in the area. It's clean and the foods always good.

Went to this mcdonald's with a mate went to go through the drive through but it was really slow ( it's supposed to be fast food )so we parked up and went inside to join a very slow moving queue with 2 tills in action I was served quick when I got there but when I got my take away meal it was warm at best must of been a bad day or something but put me off

Whilst doing some Xmas Shopping..popped in here for something to eat..kids liked it..but it is small..packed..food not to my liking..

Must admit, sometimes they have got the meals wrong and we don't find out until we have left in the car! BUT as, you may already know, I'm a huge McDonalds fan, and they never disappoint in quality. We often stop here after being here and there, really enjoy what we get

I've been here a few times, never had a problem. Always fast, efficient and generally friendly staff.

We were served quickly and food fresh. Very happy with service we ordered a Big Mac meal, chicken nuggets and a double cheese burger plus a Diet Coke. Chips hot and burgers well made and Diet Coke had ice I was a happy bunny. Especially after a 14 hour day it was well needed x

Usually busy, not the most scenic location. Plus points, the staff work hard at keeping the place clean and tidy, consistent quality

We went through the drive thru just for some quick food. The till wasn't working so we ended up waiting about 10 minutes for them to fix it, it still was working so in the end they told us to drive on and collect our food for free! Result! Thank you Mcdonalds!

On our way to Harwich we stopped 4 a quick bite.Small place with an enormous car park at hand.The usual McDonald's menu and fast and furious staff serving it.

The new design of McDonald's is appalling. I still cannot believe the move McDonald's made at Tollgate, they previously had the bigger Boots store and that was an ideal size, now it's a tiny small box shaped restaurant. Food is always salty, over priced and they don't have the new fancy machines to buy on which are the biggest positive of the new designs.

Fast service .good food .hot when served .go there again ..handy drive through if not eating in .grandchildren love their mc Donald's on a Friday when they stay with nana and grandad.

We like this McDonalds and quite often stop here although you can't always get a seat as its popular

Handy having McDonald's on a12! Easy cut through, drive through good. Had a few times where order was messed up but understand it's aways busy and they always sort it out fairly. Food good just a shame it's not so good for you haha

This McDonalds is always clean and tidy but can get extremely busy at peak times. There is a drive thru which is very handy as it's situated in the middle of the Tollgate shopping area. It's only small, it could certainly do with being twice the size and it would still be busy. As with all McDonald's the menu is the same so you know exactly what you are getting.

A culinary experience second to none........the nuggets were as succulent as a hog roasted suckling pig, slowly roasted over a bed of basil leaves with a virgin olive oil drizzle. The chips, whilst crispy, still maintained a delicate and faultless texture and were delicately seasoned with a delicious maldon sea salt

Parking's atrocious as it's within a shopping/retail park, but the queues move quickly through the drive-through.

It is what it is ....fast food . Had the new chicken bbq with salsa. Have to say it was yummy . Went through the drive through which was quick. Not a lot else to say really it's just macdonalds

I ordered food and drinks while my wife used the bathroom. The boy called my order number and saw I was holding our 3 month old baby so kindly offered to carry the tray upstairs for us. Very good customer service and nothing was too much. Just a bit of a wait for the food considering it's a fast food outlet. Would return if in the area again :)

I cannot eat or drink here as they do not sell anything I can have despite their adverts saying "There is a McDonalds for everyone!" Does not even have a decaff option on their coffees/tea!

My Son had an interview in Ipswich recently and we got there really early to miss the rush hour traffic, so popped into the Ipswich McDonalds for a bite to eat.I NEVER really eat McDonalds as a rule, but we were SOOOOOOO early and I do LOVE their Hot Chocolate, so Hubby also bought us something to eat. I'm sorry, I really don't GET McDonalds food at all!! The Egg McMuffin is completely tasteless and is completed with a slice of 'plastic cheese'!!! Hubby had the Sausage & Egg McMuffin meal which came with a hash brown - which was SOOOOOOO greasy - YUK!!Whilst sitting there eating and drinking, we watched as the window cleaners stood on all the chairs and tables to clean the insides of the windows! They even stood on a table where a lady was dining, without saying a word to her - OMG, how rude!! She got up and moved to a different table, which she shouldn't have had to do. When the window cleaner assumed we would move - he said, "This is my last window, so a swap?!", he didn't get the response he expected! I am disabled and walk with a walking stick which was upright on the chair next to me so that I don't leave it behind, so he definitely would have seen it. Once I am settled somewhere it's actually quite hard for me to move again, and there were 3 of us with all of our belongings, so he really shouldn't have expected us to move!I will never personally eat anything in there again (although I know Hubby enjoys it!!) but will ALWAYS enjoy their hot chocolate. My Son loves his black coffee too. Unfortunately I did actually burn my tongue on the first careful sip I took and couldn't actually begin to drink it until we were almost ready to leave, nothing really to complain about for that (I'm not sad like a lot of others who complain about almost anything just to get extra food or their money back!!)Hubby also enjoys his McD's milkshakes, which he was thrilled with when learning that he could now actually have one before 10am!!!!!

Food ok but need larger premises. More busier at Tollgate now shops improved. Never enough seats have to usually wait for table so very rarely use now

Very very slow on drive Thru and all I wanted was coffee. I gave them the benefit over a Starbucks drive Thru ?? Maybe not next time.

Whenever we have popped into this restaurant it's always been busy but the staff make an absolute fantastic effort to get everyone seen as quickly as possible. The food had always been warm / hot warm food when given to us. The overall condition of the restaurant is very good with the decor being very recent and very minimal amount of rubbish is seen left Laying around as the lobby staff are continuously changing bin and cleaning down the sides. the food price is very good and extra value for meals.

Love this restaurant, better than two others we have. Plenty of parking, easy to get to. Service great. Polite staff and good prices, we find they Can vary from different restaurants. Always go to this one. If you want shopping too, there's a boots, next, scs, ahf, sports direct, Harvey's, carpet shops, smyths toys, Iceland, Argos. Across the road a curlys, Hughes, staples, b and m! Great place. Direct easily from a12 and the zoo.

No point reviewing the food. There is rarely variation between McDonalds- it is fatty food filled with calories and not for the health aware.This would be my most local McDs so we have historically used it for takeaways to eat at home. This requires the drive-thru which, I am now beyond visiting.What is it with McDonalds and their requirement for you to 'park-up'? 20 years ago, if you were ever asked to wait a few minutes, they gave you a free fries, apple pie or drink. Now you just get lazily directed to small parking bays with a pointed finger.I've begun to refuse. I'm just not 'parking up' again. The argument that '..it is busy because it is tea-time' at 6pm is stupid- it is tea-time every night at that hour, be ready. The fact that 'Fish fingers' take 3 minutes to cook doesn't work either.... particularly when you have already been waiting 5 minutes since you ordered. Ditch these multi-national burger businesses that pay minimal tax and frequent the smaller establishments that actually care about the customers.

The food here is not suitable for people on special diets. They do not sell decaff coffee or tea either! Some of the staff are friendly but I find them not very helpful in this specific branch.

Holy moly I am in mcmuffin heaven, with nothing but a hash brown & a coffee to bring me down from this gristly goodness. Somebody stop me before I do another lap of the drive-thru, ding dong.

Well, I have never eaten food in a McDonalds - Shock horror for someone in their early 40's, it's because I've heard awful stories about their chicken burgers....(I only eat poultry and fish), but after a long wait for a hospital appointment in Colchester...we were very hungry and i had to bite the bullet.........I was pleasantly surprised actually! The 99p chicken burger was lovely and the chips were good too. I'm not really a chip person (unless it comes with a pot of curry sauce), but these fries I quite liked. We also had a strawberry milkshake, which is usually what I go for in these places, or a hot chocolate.Hubby had a double cheeseburger (but he's not a McDonalds Virgin), which he usually enjoys.The car park is big too and you don't feel like you've got to rush away for other drivers to get a parking space. It has quite a few bins which are really accessible, yet we still saw 'people' opens their car doors and dumping their rubbish on the floor...Grrrrrrr, one of my pet hates!!!!!

Love the Tollgate Mcdonalds, the other 3 not so much. Had to wait awhile last night for a portion of cheese bites so the management gave us double the amount to say sorry! Great service.

Food is often cold and the drive through layout is an absolute nightmare, hopefully this will improve with the new works being undertaken.

Visited with my children after going to the swimming pool. The premises was clean and staff were friendly. Had to wait a few minutes to get served but it was 6pm so it was expected. Good was hot and the kids loved it.

Better than a lot of McD,s Everyone enjoyed their food,was all nice and fresh,and as always was good value for money.After visiting zoo (were smoking is very restricted) Everyone who smoked was pleased to sit outside after eating with their coffee and enjoy a ciggy.

I don't know what it is with this place but there is always a long wait in the drive thru compared to others in the town, and if you ask for anything more than a standard burger you can expect to park and wait. It's been like that for years. Last time I visited my sons food was cold and part of our order also missing.

The manager is very rude and had it in for me and my friends as soon as we walked in it was about 1030 at night and it was not very busy and he would not let us stand in the shop and eat our meals chips was cold my friend complained and he did not want to know I would not go back again

Rarely eat fast food ,but called in to this McDonald's after work one day .Was pleasantly surprised ....Greeted at the door by staff , Quick service , staff very friendly and polite . The food was lovely cooked fresh And the chips were Devine ...Golden stars all round for the chip fryer .. Defiantly the best McDonalds in essex

Very busy store ... but usual you get served very quickly and staff are polite. Could do with some more seating areas as I have said it is a busy store.

For anyone out there that has been turned off by McDonalds run of the mill offerings or even bored, this is a very different experience. Walking through the doors the first difference that hits you are the large interactive menu tablets where you can choose your own food and beverages and by using your a creidt or debit card avoid queuing. Instead wait for your number to show on a screen system similar to Argos and then approach the serving point to collect your goodies! This is just the beginning -most of the sitting area is upstairs decorated with colourful chickens, cows and pigs and fresh flowers. An array of machine parts are elegantly displayed behind plastic. Tables and chairs are in varying shapes and sizes offering space and panaoramic views of the A12By far a more pleasant eating experience - we took our eighty year old parents with us and the server was very conscientious in ensuring they provided a meal that she could eat with her wheat intolerance.Great stop off between Billericay and Ipswich or Norwich!

As will all the McDonalds in the Colchester area of which we now have four, this is a clean, efficient and will presented restaurant. Staff are friendly & polite. Will no doubt be back there soon.

Nobody likes to admit how much they love maccy D's but I espically love their chicken. Oh and also the monopoly!

This place is not so good as food is standard at these places, but the cleanliness is very poor here, tables are hard to get clean here. The staff seem to struggle, the floors are always dirty as well

this McDonald's is a very popular one in colchester which sounds like a compliment but it doesn't change anything the more popular it gets. The seating area is almost always impossible to get a seat. The parking area is always easy to get a space which is a good thing and almost the only good thing. Food is as expected so other than a few things it's okay.

Why do they always get the order wrong? Everytime I go to this McDonald's in Tollgate they get the order wrong, if you order a burger you will get chicken nuggets if you ask for no source they will give you extra sauce it's almost as if they do it on purpose. I haven't even gone on to mention about the food being cold most of the time and the miserable staff, I would strongly advise anybody thinking dining at this McDonald's franchise not to because this particular franchise damages the good brand of McDonald's.

This confirmed my desire never to step foot in one of these establishments again. As it was the early hours of Saturday morning this was the only place open in town. Once you have negotiated your way past bouncers on the door you have to walk across a layer of 1/2 inch stickiness and discarded burger wrapers on the floor. Staff less than personal. Cannot sit in as take away only. The stairs and tables are guarded by a series of stacked chairs and kiddie's highseats to stop customers trying! Food uninsipiring and luke warm. Not a good experience.

I have waited a month to allow management to respond to my email. Since they have not bothered to contact me, I am posting it below.My wife and I were recently visiting England from our home in California. On November 14th we stopped at your location number 1352 to eat and check our emails. We had a horrible, humiliating experience which was unlike anything we have had before.It was about 4:45 pm and the restaurant was busy with schoolchildren and families. We ordered fish sandwiches but when we got our meal they were chicken. Because of the size of the queue, we just accepted what we were given. We had barely finished eating, our tray and wrapper were in front of us and I was trying to login to your WiFi when a manager came by and asked if we were finished because he had customers waiting for tables.We had just finished our food but we felt humiliated and left immediately without getting the manager's name. As I sat outside in the car recovering my composure, I got more and more angry at basically being asked to leave so I went inside and spoke to Adrian who apologized and told me that the only time he personally had ever asked anyone to leave was if they had not purchased food but were lingering. Since our tray and wrappers were still on the table, there was no question, so we should not have had that experience.I was unable to see the manager that approached us but felt I had to share the experience with you in the hope that you might save somebody else from our experience. Visited this macdonalds a few times and this week find out they have back dated all the payments their machines have taken during the past 6 weeks! All taken out if their customers bank accts in one go rather than at the time of payment!Disgusting!Won't go back again, poor customer service - supervisor is a muppet that laughs on the phone to his customers misfortune! Head office are as crap!Saw a rat in the car park aswell - clearly their litter picking skills are as crap as their book keeping! MOST of the staff are friendly and the food was done quickly as you would expect from a fast food place! It does get busy there but there is plenty of seating to accommodate that... The floors and tables always seem to be dirty though, I think the staff are overworked. They should probably employ more people.

The place staff are all very friendly and keep the place spotless. Always sure of a decent cup of coffee.

The burger that is but was hot and tasted ok. Staff member was sort of apologetic for wait. Drive in was very busy which may be the reason for poor quality
