McDonald's in North Hertfordshire

My partner and I were each fined £50 for staying 13 minutes too long in the carpark! (In this rural location!) We complained that they don't give you long enough to enjoy your meal and received a cop out answer about needing enough parking for all customers. McDonald's have lost two life long customers. We won't ever be eating at a McDonald's again. Utterly disgusted with them.

Needed a quick meal for my children as we had to be somewhere. Drove up to the drive thru and waited. Was told they wouldn’t be a moment, so I sat and actually read the sign on the machine, which was an allergen update. Order was taken, drove to the window to pay. Was told I couldn’t pay with £50 note. I explained all I had was a £50 note or £5 on me and they are legal tender. Went back and forth several times with lots of shrugging shoulders when I explained my children needed to eat (one who is type 1 diabetic) and was told there are signs up everywhere. I said actually I haven’t seen one otherwise I would have known and not ordered and explained that I had read the only sign which was about allergies! Then an extremely rude woman came out and said she’s not taking my money and is cancelling our order. I was so frustrated I cried! My diabetic child ended up hypo and both children unable to have dinner for a few hours due to the planned event. So both children had to make do with crisps! Not good enough McDonald’s at all! I suggest investing in uv light detectors to check notes if you are that concerned about fake notes, maybe this way it wouldn’t cause a huge medical emergency for a small child.

No complaints about the actual restaurant but the car park is managed by MET parking services They rip you off with car park charges Got fines £50 for parking there 14 minutes over the allotted time . Never again will I visit this McDonald’s what an absolute disgrace . Meet for a chat and lunch and get ripped off with parking . Far nicer McDonald’s to visit where you can come and go at your leisure without being stung for a parking fine ! Never again !

We ate at a table outside which was filthy. And noticed rats running in and out of the bushes and the car park. 🤮 revolting!

I use this McDonalds when I work in the area. The staff are always helpful happy and respectful The restaurant eating area is continually cleaned and the rest rooms are always pristine The coffee is the best I cannot praise this place and the staff enough I recommend it to anyone in the area

Worst McDonald’s ever! I don’t remember the last time I came here when I wasn’t told to park up and wait for my food. Waiting 15-20 minutes sometimes when it really isn’t that busy. Run by teenagers. All looking tired and overworked

Cold food, I have stomach cramps and can't go far from a toilet 12 hours later From ordering the food - could not understand the young person on the speaker system to being told to park up and wait? Watching a young person walk round and round in the car park looking for their customers their food would have been colder than mine Process needs urgent attention along with hygiene and food quality

Shame on the management team. I have never ever had such bad service over several visits but it’s taken today’s continuous terrible service that has finally prompted me to write a review. In fact this is the only time I’ve felt compelled to leave a poor review ever. Over a period of time I have used the drive thru. I have had components missed and only found out when I have reached my destination, a milkshake was dropped in the car by the member of staff serving me, food is cold and the wait can be excruciating. If that wasn’t bad enough today I went into the restaurant to order in the vain hope that I may eliminate errors. Fun fact is that no matter what you do they will always astonish you by exceeding their previous misdeeds. When I finally got home I had a completely different meal to the one I ordered. I double checked my receipt just to be sure but McDonalds at Royston you’ve done it again. How you continue to operate is beyond me. Safe to say that I will not be coming back. Sort yourselves out.

Clean, good service and friendly staff , thank you to CJ for being so helpful too , we stop here en route home from Norfolk as easy to reach , easy to park and a nice dog walk nearby too .

We visited here for dinner, we ordered on the app and had the food bought to the car, we did wait a while but we didn’t mind as we could see if was busy, a young lad bought our food out and immediately apologised for the wait, we mentioned to him we were missing a wrap, he went back in a bought it back out with a free cookie. He again apologised for the mix up. This young lad was very pleasant, and had lovely manners. What a team member he is. His name was Harry and he was amazing 🤩

I travel around the UK for work but have the pleasure of living in Royston. Unfortunately,this McDonald’s does not contribute to that pleasure. In fact,having tried several dozen different McDonald’s around the uk I can safely say this one is the worst. I have eaten here upwards of 20 times only because it is my local McDonald’s and apparently I have amnesia about how AWFUL it is. Not once have I had a warm chop from this place. Very rarely have I received my correct order. I can only advise, don’t make a trip via Royston for a McDonald’s.

We go to this McDonalds every other Sunday on our way to a family members house, we've been doing this for a few years as it's the only fast food place open around there on a Sunday at the time we go. Almost everytime they mess our order up with items missing. We usually try to check it but we order 5 meals and extras so it's hard to thoroughly check when there's a line of traffic behind you, We usually only realise something is missing when we get to our destination. 9 times out of 10 there is something missing. Its so much that it feels like it's a scam, they can't be that incompetent. After waiting in the bay sometimes they only bring half our food, so then we have to wait ages for the rest whilst the Mc Flurrys are melting and everything else is getting cold. I've never known a McDonalds as bad as this one! They've had so much money out of us where we haven't received the items. How hard can it be to get the order correct!

Coffee all over tables, rubbish on the floor. Generally looks filthy. Toilets had sanity bins overflowing and no loo paper. Attendant just stood by bins doing nothing. Will never return.

Best slow food establishment of all time. If you really want to wait 45 minutes for a mcdonalds then this is the place for you!

If I could give zero I would. A shambles every time I come and everytime regret it! Management so poor, orders always wrong waiting forever, the worst maccies you could go too!

Visit to McDonalds Royston for breakfast - great service and good food. A shout out to Mona - the cleanest McDonalds I have ever visited. Very diligent and thorough young lady.

Called into Royston en route from London to Cambridge. Had a very good breakfast (sausage McMuffin, Egg and Cheese McMuffin, pancakes and coffee). Spoke at length to Yvonne - who is a lovely lady and a great ambassador for your brand. Keep up the good work Yvonne.

I went to McDonalds with my friends i’m order to get some nice food for our evening. When we turned up there was only 2 fizzy drinks that was working! The milkshake machine also wasn’t working and neither was the frappes. We ended up just going to a different mcdonald’s, this is appalling. I’ve come here a few times before this and the milkshake machine never is working and the fries are always soggy and not salty.

My hamburger was dripping wet when it was served to me, upon returning it the man behind the till told me to "f off "I tried asking someone else to fix my wetty hamburger issue just for them to dry it with their sleeve and hand it back to me.

Worst McDonald’s in the country! Either out of milkshakes, McFlurrys or frappes- every time. Sometimes out of happy meal toys. Order on the app and collect in drive through, only to be told to wait in the bays - took 25 minutes to get 2 happy meals on this occasion. Not equipped to cope with the volume of customers. Food takes forever and the. Luke warm. Always ‘forget’ the dips that come with special menu items, I.e. mozzarella dippers. Disappointing for the kids as this is our local McDonald’s and there is always something missing! Staff are kind but set up to fail by under staffing issues

Worst McDonald’s I’ve ever visited. Their restaurant was closed for whatever reason but until you got out of your car and walked to the door you are none the wiser. You couldn’t even use their toilets even though they were serving food. We then walked back to the car and ordered to a click and serve only to get an error message asking us to speak to the counter. We walked back inside to explain this when we were told “we’re shut” no help whatsoever just told it will auto get refunded in a couple days and that we need to use the drive through. Due to being so far away from home we decided to get in the drive through queue of about 20 cars. We continued to order on the app as due to being NHS workers the app provides us with 20% off and we had some monopoly freebies. We finally got to the one tannoy they had open and stated “I can’t find your order you need to order manually” so I explained that we get 20% discount due to being NHS to which the young girl said “no you need to pay full price” at no point did anyone say sorry or even try to remotely help us and then when we finally got to the pay window it was blatant they were laughing at us. Absolutely disgusting customer service and the staff were unbelievably rude

I come to this restaurant most days to get breakfast/lunch for my workmen most days I am served my a young lady called Milena who always greets me with a smile and is always super efficient and very helpful. It really makes a difference being served by someone with a smile on their face and who is so happy to help. Just wanted to give her some well deserved praise.

Cafe closed, had to use drive through when I also needed to use the facilities. Complete indifference to customer needs. When I went to the checkout to pay and.told the checkout operator that I woud not return, their reply was "even better"

Pulled in for a drive through McDees but was given a medium rather than large coke that I'd ordered and paid for. Asked for it to be replaced with what was ordered and was basically told to clear off or join the back of the queue again. Asked to see the manager but manager 'Ryan' basically said the same thing. Our friend was banned from this establishment because the short girl manager has a grudge against him for being too good looking. This is highly inappropriate and she should move on. Also she has been wasting police time which they also agreed because he gave her attitude. Even though she is highly rude to every customer. Fix up and change management as even workers here say she’s immature. You’re only a maccies manager not the guard for the Queen darling.

The usual service was resumed, the table was clean and tidy plus the coffee was the usual good value and the cup was full as well. I am pleased to report that there had been a considerable improvement.

Staff were busy and continued taking orders from the next customer as I was trying to pay (drive through). Food was all nice and hot though and chips had salt on them for a change. No issues, plenty of parking.

Hot chips, hot cheese bites, hot chicken strips. So why like warm burgers? Took first ones back and were replaced with slightly warmer burgers than before. First one was also dry and overcooked. Dread to think how long they were sitting in the dispensing trays for. Bring back freshly cooked please. Whilst efficient, severely lacking in quality.

We often call in at this Mc D's when we are out on our bikes and it is usually good. Regrettably this time the service was dismal, almost unfriendly and although the coffee is excellent value for money, the cup was only half-filled. They need to improve.

Whisky this is part of the main chain that everyone knows, this place certainly should be avoided.I visited twice, just to make sure there was diligence given, to find no difference in either visit. Ordered one of their special offers which was the chicken burger. I deliberately didn’t add anything or remove anything just to make sure it was as they would ordinarily serve. The chips came out cold and this was ordered through the drive thru....everyone would agree that there is nothing more infuriating than being on a long journey and pulling in to refuel yourself to then drive away and be given a far than average lack lustre meal!! I would advise anyone to avoid this place as they clearly can’t even handle simple orders and on a day and tome when they aren’t even busy!

Royston is a typical Mc D's where you receive just what you expect. The coffee for the price is very good, the staff polite and efficient. The fare was served in good time and the tables and floor were clean and tidy.

My experience at this McDonald’s was quite disappointing I had some greasy sweaty man serv me and a worker called james hurl abuse at me and left me feeling very vulnerable and upset I went to complain and the manager called me a loser:(

If in a hurry never drop by this place as it is sooo slow just like the one in Letchworth.

Probably the slowest mcdonalds I've ever witnessed....25 minutes just to get 2 mcflurries....no idea why this place is so slow compared to other McDonalds, but needless to say I will never be returning.

On the way home from Cambridge decided to pull in the drive through and get some food for the children. The staff were rude - tried to make conversation with the guy at the payment window - but he did not engage. The young girl serving the food at the next window also was not friendly. The mango/pineapple smoothies and raspberry ripple drinks that the kids ordered seemed half full! I asked the staff member at the window about it and her reply was, "It's not my fault, it's just a machine." The food was mediocre. I know it is a McDonalds and not a fancy place to eat but this outlet really drags the reputation down. No plan to go back here.

My self and my wife went to Royston mc donalds ,sat 13 of July ,we both had two big maks ,and French fries ,and one banana milk shake ,we started to eat it ,and to find it was very look warm ,as I'm in the catering business, my self I know this is not ,acceptable, this is our 3 visit to your branch both those times was a lot better, this has put us of returning to your branch

Not many people waiting when we walked in. Ordered two normal meals via touch screen and order number 54. 13 minutes later with up to order 67 on the screen people started receiving orders. Further 2 mins for us and then wrong drink was done!!! Loads of staff chatting and doing nowt... food wasn’t that great either!!! I’ll avoid in future

After a long drive back from the coast we stopped off and grabbed some food . Ordered 2 Big Mac meals and 2 kids nuggets meals , got the two adults meals but the kids meals were wrong . Didn’t realise till we were home . Now will check my order before we leave

McDonald’s French fries quality, taste and look is just getting worse and worse. Might as well eat cardboard with this kind of quality. I am a huge fan but this becoming insulting. Money for what? Let’s try and bring back the old style even if they are fried in oil and lard.

The staff during the night have no respect for customers, rude and the manager is about as useful as a chocolate radiator standing there with no clue what he's doing. Don't visit they took the payment out of our card twice too.

We stop at this Mc D's on a regular basis and the coffee and crispy chicken chilli wraps are very good. The staff are always polite and friendly and the tables like the toilets are spotless.

I was bit peckish on my way to work and stopped at this mc donalds drive through i was absolutly appuled by tge fact i was sent on my way with half my food missing and then i had to stop pull up and go and get it my self not evem an apoligy for the inconvience disapointed and i pass this pretty much every day but most certainly wouldnt stop hear again.

Came for a nice trip with some friends after a long tiresome day of charity work, ordered some drinks, my friend simply requested a TAP WATER as she has many allergies etc, this request is always fulfilled unTILL today when we were quite simply refused the tap water and told ‘we only give out bottled water’ I kindly said we have always got it here before and with a attitude the employee replied ‘no you can’t have it’ and shut the window shutters at the drive through in a very angry manner, not what I was expecting the visit from hell...... we will not be returning !!!!

Cold burger as usual. Place was filthy, food all over the floor, waste food bins full almost overflowing. Cleaning supplies, brooms etc all fallen over by the entrance. T It's not usually that bad . Filled out customer survey online, no response.

Picked up breakfast at this McDonald’s as part of a mid-morning flying visit. Lengthy queue but fast service and talkative window staff. Not had a negative experience and have been a few times now.

We stop at the Royston Mc D's on a regular basis and I am always satisfied with the friendliness of the staff and cleanliness of the restaurant and toilets. Needless to say the coffee for the price is top class.

Obviously popular with families with young children. Good coffee and clean facilities. It was hygienic that staff taking money were not serving food BUT although the chocolate cookie taken out of an enclosed case with tongs was a hygienic practice the bag it was put in was opened by an ungloved hand which was put right inside to open the bag fully. We found this unacceptable, hence the two star rating. I did request a new cookie, placed straight on to a paper serviette that I had taken from the holder. The member of staff I spoke to complied although obviously bemused by my request and the reason for it.

Drive through for a double cheeseburger! 5 cars in front took nearly 15mins to clear! Opens my burger and I was cold ( not uncommon for McDonald’s) and filled with mayonnaise........ in a double cheeseburger! Went in to complain and managed to get a new one but this took another 10mins and the second burger was again cold!

Visited this establishment today for a quick lunch. It was quite busy but generally clean and tidy. Whilst my wife waited in the queue for the food to be prepared I went to use the facilities. Trap no.2 was occupied so I entered trap no.1. The loo seat was disgusting so I attempted to clean it with the meagre offerings of loo paper on hand. Cleaning attempt unsuccessful I decided to give up and leave. As I turned my eye caught an offending article on the floor and I just avoided stepping in it. The bum nugget was a fair distance from it's target and I don't want to imagine how it got there. Needless to say it made me feel quite nauseous.

It’s a McDonalds, it’s not meant to be gourmet food...but we enjoyed a grilled wrap each along with chips and a drink. It wasn’t too busy and service was quick. The place was clean and perfectly fine for what we needed - a hole filling on a long journey. Our only complaint is that they didn’t have any vinegar for our chips!

Looking for a late lunch on way to Cambridge, we drive right past as its not very well sign posted.

Gave their hot chocolate a miss this time as it is rather too sweet for my taste, but the coffee is very good and at a competitive price. The tables were clean as were the toilets and the staff were polite and friendly.

The GF and I stopped here on the way home from the airport. We ordered a chicken legend and the grand mac via one of the machines. We chose delivery to zone 2 which apparently required us to clearly display our receipt. Unfortunately, the machine did not give me one. That wasn't a barrier as our order was delivered without a problem and quickly. Luckily the drive thru had queues but the restaurant itself was empty.

I don't know why but it seems McDonalds staff are incapable of placing the required items into a paper bag without getting the order wrong. It's odd how it's always missing contents as opposed to having extra though....... one could be a cynic and think this was intentional?

I have to say nothing has improved, service was awful the food was barely warm and the burger looked as if it had been run over by a tractor. It would not have been possible to make it any thinner. I went back and asked for one to be cooked fresh. This did not make the staff happy. Why should I eat something that had been sitting around for ages. The fries were so heavily salted that I ended up throwing them away along with the half the second burger after biting into what seemed like bone or gritty hard bits. This is a regular occurance here, buy food then throw most of it away. I think this will be the last time I ever buy anything from this place again.

Food is so bad it's not rocket science I still go back expecting it to improve and it doesn't.You go round the country and eat at other McDonald's and they can get it right and it's lovely! It always seems so chaotic in there .it's a good location so attracts passing trade.Someone from head office needs to sort it out!

Pit-stop at best before landing in Royston and starting an evening of NYE drinking with real food, it was busy and slow service, food was typical value for money mcDonalds but the staff and place looked uninterested.

Beware ....if you go to the drive through don't expect to get what you ordered. They often miss items. The food is cold and there are never enough fries. Disappointed.

We went into this particular McDonalds going home from the theatre. It took a while before someone took our order and it wasn't busy in there as it was quite late in the evening. They seem to have concentrated on the drive through. The burger had no taste whatsoever, it was almost sloppy. I'm afraid to say that will be the last thing any of us will go to again. Burger King has so much better taste to it.

Love the new customise touch screen so I can spend time on what I want to eat and there are a many choices of burgers. Very kids friendly and the burgers are good value

After seemingly spending hours in traffic queues it was great to come across a McDonalds. A quick break for lunch,fast and efficient service, all you really need for a McDonalds.

While McDonalds sell themselves on consistency, not all are the same. Here an efficient staff worked well together to keep the queue to a minimum, albeit with what was clearly someone in a managerial position barking out orders at a quite unnecessarily loud voice which made ordering difficult.

I pop in here on my way to Norfolk fairly regular but God knows why...its the slowest fast food service every time. They always always get my order wrong...so results in me having to get back out the car and going back in, 're ordering and waiting again.It's not hard...bacon and egg mcmuffin am or 1/4 cheese n fries pm. Why don't you do it how it was...ie. the foods their ready to grab.Shame you the only outlet on my route, lest you loo's clean..

The restaurant was largely clean, well-presented and at my time of visit, all bins were being emptied which is a good sign that the establishment is well-maintained even towards the early hours of the morning when there are fewer customers inside.The touchscreen order platforms were all functional, however, there was not enough paper in mine to print a receipt after I had put my order through.Staff all appeared hard at work and were busy serving the Drive-Thru facility, but kindly found time to bring my food over to me as part of their new optional waiting service.WCs were slightly unclean but bearable. There is ample parking if you are eating in.Food arrived swiftly, chips fresh and hot, and a selection of sauces was provided without request.All in all, very good.

Why wouldn't you pop in to a spotlessly clean restaurant for a quick snack abd a cuppa whilst your car is being valeted.

I usually don't review fast food but this place was clean, efficient, and the staff was courteous and friendly. The condiment area was well-stocked and obviously cleaned often. Nice, fresh food as well.

Don't make a habit of writing about fat good but contrary to all the other reviews I found it very good, friendly service and freshly made food, good all round today

Instead of the usual coffee we had hot chocolate instead. Regrettably it was too sweet for my taste but it was hot and they filled the cup. The service was excellent, just couldn't have been better. All the staff were polite, efficient and friendly.

The only reason this is a fast food outlet is because it has all been cooked and kept warm. We called here Sunday evening (around 7.30)for something quick to eat. Ordered chicken nuggets and chips. Both were barely warm and my son's chips were also lukewarm. I thought that all McDonalds meals were cooked to order but obviously not. Won't be calling here again in a hurry.
