Absolutely no idea why people go here. Food quality is terrible. Rock hard chips and overcooked fish. Not that cheap either. Far superior fish and chips can be found just round the corner at Wendover Plaice. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

What has happened to this restaurant ? I wish I had not bothered buying a supper at this fish and chip restaurant It was early evening and not busy. The food took 15-20 minutes whilst I waited Its not a real fish and chips shop It’s honestly something else. The woman behind the counter did not greet customers or have any customer service abilities Dry, rock hard cold chips. Tiny portions Really horrible meal Poor customer service Very long wait for cold food. Never again as this place has really gone downhill. Never using this place again Would not recommend

Had previosuly ordered a few takeaways from here. Food was decent quality. However the two most rercent experiences have been so comically bad, approaching Basil Fawlty levels of inedeptitude - I felt compelled to warn others I live 10 minutes away from the establishment. I ordered at 7pm for delivery at 8pm. At 8.10 I caled up to enquire where it might be to be told it left at 8.10 and was on its way. At 8.30 it was still missing. At 9pm it was still missing. It eventually arrived at 9.17pm. Obviously in a white paper bag and having sat in a car all night it is stone cold and inedibly greasy I called to explain the situation to be told they were incredibly sorry for the awful service and the value would be credited to my account Having agreed it was patheticically bad service, I agreed with the lady to perhaps call back on a quiet weekday lunchtime and try then. Having just called back to redeem my credit, I was told by the owner this would not be honoured. He then told me numerous lies about how long it might take to deliver, some truths about how they lie to stack up orders near each other to save money and time on deliveries, and that as far as he was concerned he didnt care if I ever ordered from there again I probably write about one review a year if that, as generally speaking, you dont want to make a fuss or be too negative about an establishment. But I had to warn others about the awful attitude of the owner. Not only did he lie to me several times, he also threw his own employees under the bus accusing them of being wrong with what they told me honouring the value of my order Truly abysmal sadly - and a warning for others - with the competition around locally - I would suggest you look elsewhere or suffer the same experience I had

We ordered 59 portions of Fish and chips and it was delivered hot and at exactly the correct time. People commented that it was a generous sized portions and was hot. We would use it again. Thank you

The worst food I have ever tasted, genuinely just give up the place is rancid, I suspect I will be ill, how can a place like this call themselves a food service

We were passing through Wendover looking for Fish and Chips and bought the best fish and chips. We had family visit from Sri Lanka and this was the first time for them to experience fish and chips. Fish was very tasty chips were fresh and hot. Tasty sausage in batter too. Staff were very helpful and they kindly let us eat in the restaurant area after we bought the takeaway. Very kind of them. The place was very clean and we highly recommend this place. Thank you MC Coys.

This might be one of the worst takeaways in Buckinghamshire in terms of service. They are unorganised, mix up people’s orders, and the average wait time for a Chicken Shish is 30 minutes plus on a relatively quiet night. I’ve been a few times now and always made an excuse for them but it’s beyond a joke now. Avoid

See I always believe quality of quantity but my they devery on both worth it. I can see how people think it can be expensive and the wait times can be long howevert that shows how good it is and it will be the same everywhere you go it just life. The staff are all lovely and helpful and even the younger stuff are politet and attentive and are well trained It just a livly place good food and people and honestly I would give it 5 starts and I am the harshest food person

I used to use this establishment on a regular basis. Not being able to get there until after work, I can only visit around 8.45pm which shouldn't be a problem as they close at 9.30pm. I ordered pie and chips and frankly when I got home some 2 minutes later, discovered that the pie was basically inedible. The pastry was rock hard and difficult to cut. Once open, the contents were dried out. Went straight in the bin. This is the second time in a row this has happened and I am not very happy. May be some time before I come here again. Such a shame.

We’ve been coming here a year or so but it closed for refurbishment so I was keen to see what the changes were….unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have changed for the better. There were more items on offer than before (still nothing vegan though!) but there were 8 members of staff ‘out front’ yet we still waited 40 mins for a takeaway for 3 people! This was shortly after 5pm so not really ‘rush hour’ as such. Apparently the kebab is fantastic but after such a long wait even that isn’t going to put up my rating. I’m hoping this was a one off as I like to support local businesses but really I wasn’t impressed and have found myself at the ‘other’ chip shop in town twice since (but they don’t do vegan either!)

Awful, service was miserable without a smile among the loads of servers behind the counter. Absolute confusion waited ages for a kebab and other items then they wrapped it before asking me which salad I required. When I asked them about this just looked at me and shrugged shoulders. So I gave my order the lad printed off the ticket then proceeded to write the list down on another bit of paper - to cap it all despite the over 30 minute wait they missed a box of chips off my order. Food was poor to add injury to insult All the time the crowd of customers continued to grow with no food appearing! Avoid at all costs - never again Quicker to order via Deliveroo and tastes much better.

The food here is really delicious and the portion sizes are huge. The salad tasty and fresh so for the food I would give it 100% The staff are really friendly and helpful. The service is not quite to the level of the food as its seems a little chaotic when they are busy. I had my order tonight and the food ended up being cold. The main reason for this is the way they process the orders. I ordered 5 meals, I shish, 1 lamb doner, 1 mixed kebab, 1 combo burger and a cheese chips and dinner meat. 2 fries and an extra cheesy chips. Great value at £55. There was about 7 staff working but 1 man was doing my order with a little assistance here and there. Imagine how long between preparing the first meal and the last one so no surprising my kebab was cold (but really tasty though). If they organised the staff a little better my meal could have been prepared by 4 people in double quick time and served and eaten hot. So for a new business still finding their feet I will still use them and hope they listen to the reviews with an open mind and look to improve their service. I understand that some customers have been rude and abusive which is a shame as they are trying their best to provide great food.

Shocking staff haven’t got a clue what’s going on avoid at all costs. Do yourself a favour go hungry.

Since it’s re-opened the Kebabs are excellent however the service is awful. Clueless being the counter, no system at all. It’s totally chaotic. They call out numbers for the food that is ready however nobody is given the number in the first place. Great food such as shame that they seem to have no process at all. I’ve never seen anything that is run so badly anyway totally clueless.

I had placed an order on just eat for my self my partner and my child and called for an update and was Rudly greeted on the phone by a gentleman who said he will refuse to make my order!!! Die to it being close to closing witch is not my issue nor a hungry child’s issue!!!! The attitude of the man way beyond outrageous and I’m quite frankly disgusted overall awful place and and awful staff from my experience with this restaurant!!!!!! Sort it out !

Disgusting Friday night dinner. Should have been a treat but felt like a punishment. Bland fish with a soggy batter bottom. Chips were absolutely rank, hard to swallow and flavourless. Deep fried cardboard would have been tastier. Mushy peas were ok but not piping hot...

Visiting the area we had a need for a quick bite and went to McCoys with no great expectations but the food was delicious. The fish batter was crisp and light and the chips cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend this chippy

Lovely Cod and Chips - I’m so used to something not being quite right in other chip shops ie; great chips but not great cod etc but both were cooked to perfection here. The service was friendly and fast - the place is absolutely spotless....

Overly greasy cod that was 90 % batter, 5% fish type substance, 5% fat/oil. And it was cold. Chips greasy and Luke warm. Save your money. Quarter of a mile up the road is Wendover Plaice youbwobt go wrong there...

This is a decent fish and chip shop in the heart of Wendover. I often call in for a takeaway and it’s always of consistently good quality. The place is spotlessly clean and there is also a large restaurant area.

Took our Grandsons to McCoys, very friendly welcome and shown to seating area. Ordered our meals and drinks, arrived very quickly, fish and chips, sausage and chips, pie and chips and spring roll, onion rings and chips all very good. We all enjoyed eating here.

Recently moved to the area, we tried our new local fish & chip shop on a Saturday evening, for a takeaway, and we were not disappointed! Cooked to order fish, very tasty and cooked perfectly. Chips also very nice and creamy in the middle.We ordered at around 9pm.Staff very pleasant. Great shop!

Try to visit weekly, and never disappointed as food is cooked to order, tried Skate, Haddock & Cod all spot on with light, crispy batter with excellent freshly cooked chips, always eat in and receive excellent waitress service from Grace & Maisy.

Very disappointed with our cod and chips . We ate in the restaurant. The Waitress who served us was very pleasant and helpful. We ordered cups of tea and Cod and chips . The tea arrived first and tasted horrible The water came out of a heater . The manager looked at the heater but did not attempt to speak to us although we had sent the tea back . When the fish and chips came the chips were Luke warm and dried up. The fish was edible . The manager could not have cared less. We only payed for the fish .

Our intention was just to buy something to eat to take away but noticed there were tables & chairs so you could eat there.Gent came over and took our order, must say the prices were very reasonable.I opted for large fish & chips - and it was large, very large!The cod was delicious, beautifully cooked and the batter was light, crispy and not at all greasy - plus loads of fresh chunky chips! Really enjoyed it - well worth a visit!

Good service from the girls at the counter. Fish cooked to order, so a bit of a wait, but your meal is freshly made and piping hot. Recommended, a great choice for some classic fish and chips .

The popcorn chicken here is really good, the kids love it. Chicken nuggets are also good, chips were a bit average and not real chip shop chips in my opinion which was disappointing but all in all - good place.

We ran an event on Saturday and ordered 82 portions f Fish & Chips plus Chicken, Sausage and a Veggie burger. All were ready on time and very tasty. Will certainly use them again next time.

Very poor quality ingredients it seemed, nasty over cooked chips and the fish terrible. Cod and Haddock (although to be fair the haddock was marginally better) nothing like fresh fish should be.

They fry the fish to order even on a Friday so you have to wait ages. It quicker to walk up the road.

Nice chippy bit pricey but the food is good it’s not exactly the best but it is acceptable they do a kids meal which is really good with fish bites chips and a drink

i have been going to McCoy's about once a week for the past year and half and it is as good as it was in 2017 it is well worth a visit you wont regret it .we always sit in and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Phoned through order for me and 3 friends..order was a accurate, piping hot and served with a smile.

As my title says, this is the better of the 2 'chip-shops' in Wendover.

It has a seating area but I've used for takeaway. Huge portion of freshly cooked chips and tasty cod. Cooking oil has always been fresh and batter has drained the oil well so a pleasure to eat. As others have said, some waiting time but that's because they don't have piles of pre-cooked food under the heaters going dry.

Really lovely when we first moved to the area both in terms of food and service and have never had a bad meal since. Plenty of space to eat in and efficient to take away also. Just wish they were open a bit later so I could have a cheeky snack on the way home from work!

Had a really nice meal of medium cod, chips & curry sauce recently. Very generous portions, well cooked and not greasy. Friendly staff and efficient service overall, will definitely return!

La espera es debido a casi todo ser cocinados a la orden, así que el pescado ha sido siempre muy buena, con pasta muy crujientes. very welcoming and polite restaurant staff the dinning area very clean and tidy. the fish is very good it has no skin on it and is well cooked and not swimming in oil when fish is on your plate the chips are very good too.i recommend you try it for your self you wont regret it.there is good selection of other fish they cook small, medium and large size portions all at reasonable prices.

2nd visit here, as with the 1st ate in, food superb, far better than what had been our regular chippy, recommended here to friend, who has also paid a visit & agree's with my opinions, look forward to my next visit

This is a good fish and chips venue in Wendover. Freshly cooked take away, but we sat at a table and were served a huge portion even though this was classed as "medium" There is a smaller portion for senior citizens which might be a better choice on our next visit. The place is basic but clean and friendly, with lots of locals as patrons.

Exploring the area as new to the area and fancied Fish and Chips. Went in, pleasantly met and had great service and the food was really good. Defo come back again.

Have had several take away meals and each one has been good quality and massive quantities. Staff are always friendly but not the most effiecient, asking questions several times and sometimes still getting things wrong. But the quality means we'll forgive them...

I'm not one for slating places but this really takes the biscuit! I went into the chip shop and asked for a cheeseburger and chips, I was ask various questions like would you like salad with that? Which I replied no just your standard cheeseburger and chips please. What I got however was only a 1/4 pounder cheeseburger microwaved to death without the chips which I certainly didn't ask for! So after a little discussion with the staff I got the chips as well. But the whole meal was ruined by the way I was treated and I threw it away!

If you want some very decent fish and chips at prices that won't burn a hole in your budget then McCoy's is the place to go if you are in Wendover.. We didn't want anything too heavy so settled for a fish and chip supper. Cod absolutely first class and one (small) portion of chips sufficed for both of us. The price was well below what I have paid at similar but substandard in terms of quality places. Highly recommended.

On a fine weekday afternoon a stroll over the hills to grab a bag of cod bites and chips has become a weekly pilgrimage. Take the food and combine the experience with a pint in The Old Swan a few doors up the road (they don't serve food and amazingly let you eat your chips there with their blessing) and you have the prefect combination... But don't tell everyone!

Very good takeaway as well as sit-in restaurant. Fish served in boxes to take away, so batter remained crisp. Cook to order and good range of fish.

I had a large bag of take away chips - ' Salt & vinegar with that ? ). I didn't eat 'In' as I like to wander and waft with my Chips. The café looked clean and tidy, pretty much like any modern Fish and chip shop. The chips were 'beefy' and were far too many to take in one solo feast. Overall OK.

McCoy's serves delicious food, offering all the traditional fish and chip shop options. The food is always hot, crisp and freshly cooked. I'd definitely recommend the curry sauce!

I was surprised to see there have been bad reviews for this " chippy". My wife and I found ourselves between meals and walked into McCoy's five minutes before lunch time closing. We were told politely that we could not sit in the restaurant but could have a take away. We did and sat on the stone bench by the old town hall. Excellent fish and chips ( too many chips for us to consume).Two weeks later I dined in the restaurant on my own and possibly had the best piece of battered cod ( this time with a small portion of chips) served in my life. Staff were very attentive, the table very clean.Generally I choose not to eat the batter, but , on these two occasions I have been very tempted.To me, "fish and chips" are still a special treat and not eaten often.

Food was slow ,had to wait ages for the fish .When eventually home the food was acceptable at best .Chips seemed really dry and I don't know why so many .Fish was ok more batter than fish Would I go back absolutely not,I'm sure I've been to one of there other shops in Bedgrove which I remember as being better

Very few people in the queue, but somehow it took and age to get served. The lady serving was rude. Also the portions are small. Never going back!

We have very nice Plaice and chips and Haddock. The room may lack a bit of charm and is more like a doctors waiting room than a restaurant, but for good food, good quality ingredients and all well cooked, this was it.A pleasant early evening dinner for well under £20. What's not to like?The drinks selection isn't the greatest, but not the end of the world. Well worth a visit and miles better than it looks.

Real shame & disappointing as we have used Mc'coys bedgrove for a few years but in the last 3 visits the chips Have been grey looking and VERY POOR taste ( Possibly using poor grade oil & cutting costs ?) also chips are scrap ends & VERY Poor Quality, the fish is over batterred, eg ordered medium but actual fish is small, will now go elsewhere.

Great to have a local chippy where you can eat in. I had the medium sized cod and chips. Nice light batter, flaky fis. Delicious!

Large chippie in the middle of Wendover, with take-away and eat-in options. We had portions of fish and chips, peas, curry sauce, nothing too dramatic. The menu shows three different fish portion sizes, but when one of our party asked for the large cod (he is a 6'7" builder), he was told none was available. we half-suggested that 2x small pieces might have the same effect, but that appeared not to register with the server. Food was pretty slow to arrive, so we hoped that that might be because it was all being freshly cooked to order, so properly hot, crispy batter etc.... It didn't. Well, it might have been true for the fish, which was really rather good considering how far away the coast is, but it certainly wasn't true for the chips, which were...OK. Service was...OK, portions were pretty good, prices were...OK, There's another chippie in town; I haven't tried it, but I'd certainly give it a go before returning here. McCoy's isn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either. It's....OK.

Surprising to find a traditional Fish and Chip shop with a wait-staff dining room anywhere these days. However, in Wendover among the Indians’, Thai, Istanbul, and Chinese restaurants’ is McCoy’s and its right up there with the best of 'em’. A simple clean and friendly place selling fresh well-cooked food. As mentioned in previous reviews the portions are truly enormous. Best of British food lives on!

We were very pleased when a fish and chip eaterie opened with sit in facilities and we were not disappointed with the food. The table service is a little basic but the food is good. Large portions and very reasonable so much so that my husband and I usually have a small portion of chip between us and either small or med fish each depending on how hungry we are. The cans of drinks are reasonable and although the tea is in a mug it tastes good. Children's meals great value. All in all a nice supper.

Big potions and the fish was cooked well. Kids meal is good value and comes in a box like a Happy Meal.

Me and my wife visited this place last week and not impressed at all. We ordered too cod and chips to eat in, chips where dry and fish didn't taste like a cod. I think they're not selling real cod . Really disappointed

Nicely decorated place with good food.We ate in so expected a small wait for fresh cooked food - seen other reviews who complained about wait - just go to macdonalds for their rubbish.

Was passing by and hungry and thought will stop in .Ordered cod and chips and was told I'd have to wait which I did and waited and waited and waited some more at which point I'd wished I'd just had a sausage Eventually got my food with no apologies for the delay .The cod was was a bit greasey and I thought the chips were plentiful but dry.If I'd not waited I'd had given a 3 and say passable however I thought the service was slow .Just seen the other reviews and looking at the main reviewer there seems to be a difference of opinion for whatever reason .No Way as good as my regular feast of Fish and Chips.

Staff are always friendly, and are willing to be of service, prices are good, portion sizes are hearty. Fish is of good quality, and the batter is always crispy. Chips are freshly made and have a slight crisp, no soggy chips to be found here. Don't really know what the bad reviews are all about, McCoys have always been good!

This is an excellent new addition to Wendover High Street, it is a first class Fish & Chip take away and Café...which is very clean, comfortable and spacious. The Fish are cooked to order and the chips, mushy peas, pies, burgers are very tasty and cooked to perfection. The owner Atila is a very nice guy as are his staff and it is always service with a smile. Unfortunately it seems there are one or two very mean people in Wendover who are trying to harm this business with what I truly believe are dishonest and vindictive comments, which could be for several reasons; perhaps they don't like the competition, or they are such snobs they didn't want a McCoys Fish & Chip shop on Wendover High Street or perhaps looking at one of the reviews they are just racist...whatever the reason having visited the business and had both take always and eaten inside on many occasions since it opened I just cannot believe these mean reviews are honest, I believe they are malicious in there purpose. So I would urge people to ignore them and to give McCoy's a try for yourself and I promise you won't be disappointed. I think it tells you something that the very mean reviews come from people with so few previous reviews of any kind: I think this tell you everything you need to know. Oh and before I forget a special notice to all OAPs or our elders don't forget to ask for the Pensioners Special Deal if you are eating inside, a slightly smaller portion of fish & chips, served with a little salad & pickle all for around £5 you won't find a better deal in Wendover!

Waited a very long time and it was rubbish, watery fish in not nice tasting batter, bad chips and too many .The kids chicken nuggets were the worst kind, chicken flavoured sponge.The was server was friendly You can eat much better than here elsewhere Couple of reviews say it's good ,HOW!

Just finished our takeaway fish and chips. Wow! The best we have found since coming to Wendover two years ago. Lovely fresh fish cooked to order and great chips. Whatever teething problems there might have been, they seem to have been sorted. There is no other place to compare in the area, in our view. Will definitely be back.

It took 25 minutes to get two Haddock and chips (only one other person in there). Very very slow. However, it was fresh cooked and tasted ok. The staff were a little difficult to understand. Think we'll go back to the chippy up the road

If I could figure out how to give less than 1 I would. Terrible food and that is only IF you could get someone to serve you!!!! Avoid this place at all costs and go to the chip shop up the road next to Tesco.

McCoy's Traditional Fish & Chips 4-6 High Street, Wendover HP22 6EA Tel: 01296-708243 ( Party orders welcome) Opening Hours Monday to Saturday 12-14 & 16-22 For the second time I tried the new McCoy's Fish & Chips on Wendover high street and once again they were excellent: Medium cod cooked to perfection, chips just right with mushy peas & curry sauce; the best in the for miles around I would say. The last time I visited during the day I ate inside the dinning area, paid a little bit more for eating in but it was a great experience with everything cooked fresh and very tasty indeed, served with a hot pot of tea and with a smile by very friendly staff. I would give them ten out of ten and wish them success. ... but no wonder it is so good as realised the owner is Atila, ( From Northern Cyprus originally I think) he is the same guy who owns Bedgrove Fish & Chip Shop which is also good, but not quite as good as the new shop...maybe it is the fryer or the spacious shop with the big windows ( used to be the Peking Chinese I believe) ...whatever Wendover has got a traditional fish & chip shop that can't be 'battered' ( bettered LOL)So what you waiting for folks give it a trySimon Aston Clinton
